Both Terry Akers and Jin Yoshida were absolutely horrific when I played SOMA. The unearthly sounds that they make is also extremely unnerving. Both Akers and Jin seem like more intelligent enemies as well, because they both have extremely keen senses, and can both kill you the instant they sense your presence.
Despite the lack of mic, I could definitely hear the "oh shit, oh shit, oh shit" after you realized there was another suit active and stared at Door #3 for like a solid minute after accessing the monitor. The setup and tension before the reveal made Jin Yoshida such a scary monster, it was brilliantly executed.
The last time I played this game was in 2020. I remember playing it and it's just such a good game, even after I had finished it I still thought about the game. It's probably one of the best sci-fi horror games I've ever played if not the best one. I've seen this video before but I just never commented before until now. It would be cool if they made a SOMA 2 where we could be able to play as other characters. This game really hit different than other games I've played before. The atmosphere of the game is so good the unsettling feeling of going to a new site. Would've been really cool if Simon arrived at Theta and some of the crew we're still alive so they'd go and try to launch the ark. Then they'd get killed off one by one. Until only Simon is left to do the job, I really like this game and it would also be fun if you'd be able to play as one of the monsters just to see their POV. I know this comment is quite random and literally came out of nowhere but I thought about this game recently and I felt like I just had to say my opinions and thoughts about it.
@@FlechFisher you have to try to do that. I'll be honest though, I can't even remember my reasoning for this comment; I do know that Yoshida charges straight for you, first thing, from the direction you absolutely have to go, and immediately after you open a door.

2:30 - Jin Yoshida was the last man left alive. He took the suit a day after the WAU corrupted it. Maybe he did it himself, thinking 'why not?' There was nothing left to live for.
You played it quite smart for the first encounter most people just curl up in a ball in the next corner, turn around, look at the ground and then complain about how unfair the game is because he immediately kills them

SOMA is amazing in a way that it scared me by making me feel like I am really all alone in a desolate world. The atmosphere and scare tactics in the game definitely helps build up the story and adds to the immersive nature. I love how the story just makes me think and then everything adds up in the end without being to cliche. Truly one of the best sci-fi games I've played. :) (I don't easily get scared by horror films and games... but I played SOMA mostly during morning when the Sun is up! XD)
Even if he is scary as hell, I love that ennemy. With the safe mod, he just follows you around, but the way he is stalking you does not make him less creepy.
I played on ps4 so I couldn't use any mods but that sounds creepy af. They did a great job with his introduction and his slow methodical movements followed by random sprints out of no where.

(It's a gamemode) When activated some monsters won't attack, (they wanted to re create ennemies like they planned at first, inhabitants somehow) For Jin Yoshida, when you see him, he just walks toward you, and he stop at approximately at 3 or 2 meters, and then, he just stops, staring at you without moving. (I almost had a heart attack when I finished to talk to Lindwall trough intercom, I turned back and he was there, staring at me, but just watching.) I think that Jin Yoshida, is the only "monster" that would not attack you, because he just don't have any reason to do so. (But in safemode, Jin Yoshida will kick your ass if you throw objects at him.)
I mean Akers is one of the most intellegent enemies in the game and it is the scariest in the game(in my opinion). Yoshida would be right after that because he is really intellegent. Even tho Akers chase theme is much scarier
Imo, the Leviathan was the scariest shit i've ever seen in a game. And it had one hell of an introduction, trapped in a claustrophobic tunnel, and suddenly you turn around to find a huge set of teeth crawling towards you, like a wall slowly closing in, and you have to run for your goddamn life!
can you imagine surviving so long as an employee looking at a monitor seeing someone might be alive beyond this one door only to find em as a living nightmare
From the HPS #3 - ACTIVE (TAU), to the cycling airlock alarm, you knew you weren't alone. Even as far back as Omicron it said there was an active suit too
@@zegnitz721 the alarm is a proxy. If you wait near the entrance and look back after it opens you see the proxy coming in. I'm not sure if it chases you though (it just stood there for me), seems to just be to make you rush onwards into the yoshida encounter....

Was playing this while my sibling was watching and at one of the doors that takes a while to open I jokingly said "imagine there's an enemy right behind this door" imagine thier laughter and my shock when there was
I only spent like 3 minutes with him and quickly escaped. It felt like an intense enemy because it was the last enemy like this you find (except the sea monster). Honestly i didn't even saw his face because it was so dark. From all enemies the only one who got to me was Terry Akers (and the sea monster). This game is so good, pretty intense, great plot, great survival horror like it should be.
@@zegnitz721 This game reminded me of Alien Isolation. I wished the Terry Akers part had the Noise Detection through headphones that alien isolation has. Yeah that's right. Alien Isolation game has a noise detection feature that you can activate to make the game harder so if any noise that goes into your headphones the xenomorph can hear you and find you lol of course u need to play it in a silent room without noise.

He reminded me of those fast Necromorphs in Dead Space with the stasis stuck in them. And paired with the Weeping Angel mechanic, he was by far the worst one.

When I saw that the suit was active I had such a bad feeling and fear that my instinct took precedence over the fact that there could be an enemy behind the door. So I saw Kim Yoshida in time without him seeing me. Although the truth was it was very scary because there was no way to outwit him later and the only thing left to do was run for your life.
For me, I'm not sure what was the scariest. All I knew is when I wanted to do a second playthrough, Akers was the most stressful for me. This one gave me a good scare and really made me move, but I can't get the thought of running through the hallways to get to that elevator in time, hoping to God I'm fast enough to get it open.

I remember the first time i saw Jin I opened the door, stared at him for a split second and said “Sorry, wrong room!” I then closed the door and ran the other way. After that i forced him to go in a circle then i ran like hell down the hall way, closing every door behind me that i could.
I wasn't even paying attention the first time, I was so enthralled by how the bulkhead door opened, I almost didn't see him standing there, menacingly, and paused a split second before getting the last hug I would ever receive 😂
What Amnesia did right and Soma does wrong is you're not supposed to look at the enemies, and standing right in front of you not killing you also removes a lot of suspense for me, sometimes they don't even kill you just knock you out
I could see how that would take away some of the intensity. Knowing that you'll probably be alright if they just knock you out. On the other hand, the difference for me is in amnesia you know your gonna die if they catch you. In Soma you don't know if you should run, if you should hide, if you should look at them etc... and that brief moment of "am I doing the right thing right now?" Was a lot of fun for me
I didn't even know looking at him stopped him. First time I encountered him I just led him around in circles while I explored the area he was in just wanted to make sure I didn't miss anything but there was nothing in there.
I just love the whole concept of the game. It's really unique and causes some adorable moral dilemmas like when you abandon "yourself" in another robot
I think the combination of the slow reveal and his sporadic running is what got me going. Also I couldn't figure out exactly how to/if I could stop him

I can't argue. The introduction of Jin Yoshida was probably the closest encounter to an enemy in the entire game.

The reason he pauses is due to him briefly seeing you as human before going right for the jugular after.

I wasn't even paying attention the first time, I was so enthralled by how the bulkhead door opened, I almost didn't see him standing there, menacingly, and paused a split second before getting the last hug I would ever receive 😂

Yea probably but I liked the lead up. Helps set up his reveal and adds a little element of surprise for people who havnt played before.

What Amnesia did right and Soma does wrong is you're not supposed to look at the enemies, and standing right in front of you not killing you also removes a lot of suspense for me, sometimes they don't even kill you just knock you out
I could see how that would take away some of the intensity. Knowing that you'll probably be alright if they just knock you out. On the other hand, the difference for me is in amnesia you know your gonna die if they catch you. In Soma you don't know if you should run, if you should hide, if you should look at them etc... and that brief moment of "am I doing the right thing right now?" Was a lot of fun for me
I didn't even know looking at him stopped him. First time I encountered him I just led him around in circles while I explored the area he was in just wanted to make sure I didn't miss anything but there was nothing in there.

This ones certainly scary but imo, the scariest monsters are the ones in Theta.
I just love the whole concept of the game. It's really unique and causes some adorable moral dilemmas like when you abandon "yourself" in another robot
the true monsters are the people who kill that one robot on the conveyor near the beginning lol

I think the combination of the slow reveal and his sporadic running is what got me going. Also I couldn't figure out exactly how to/if I could stop him
I find him scary because he still seems to have some traces of humanity in him. He shows reluctance in trying to kill you.
