This so much! I’ve been asking for this for a long time.
The quality of the paper stock and general build of DC’s omnis looks like they have an edge over Marvel at the moment. Thanks Omar, hope you have a Catwoman omni overview ready to go!
It helps they print far fewer per year than Marvel does.
So glad that I finally got a copy of this, I was so pissed that I missed the 2019 printing. Omar’s videos have made me want to buy more and more omnis and absolute editions. Surely DC should be considering printing more Superman omnis. Keep throwing hints their way Omar!
Let’s hope we get an omnibus or two that fils in the gaps between Vol 4 Superman HC and Death Omnibus. All we have thus far is just Exiles Omnibus

You rebuying this omni multiple times is like DC re-telling the death of Superman story, it will never end! :D Yes on comic shops and that fun era of hanging out, talking shop, and finding out info. Great times!
I REALLY hope DC sticks with their current logo for a long time to come. It feels like it’s the most simple/iconic/recognizable logo they’ve had since the logo that they had in the 80’s and 90’s.
They missed a great opportunity to do a really minimalist sleek cover design by simply putting the red dripping Superman logo on the front to represent death, and then the silver Superman logo on the back to represent the return. Nothing else is needed, just a solid black backdrop. Would've been dope.
Let the record reflect, that as of Feb of 2024 I ordered this and it was a sewn binding that made a perfect “I”
Got my copy Monday. The stories might not be the best but it's still an iconic and beautiful book.
I ended up pre-ordering my copy and grabbing a copy of Superman in Exile a few months ago to set me up for the inevitable.

I remember trying to collect all the single issues of Reign of the Superman as a kid. The GL issue was the only one I was missing
Mullet superman has and always will be my favourite design for superman. 100% unironic. I wish he'd have another mullet phase. I think the reason I enjoy that design so much is because my Dad bought me a mullet superman action figure while he was away on work, this was when I was really young (was a small child in the 90's), and it became my favourite toy as a kid. Lot of sentimental value for me. Plus I'm a sucker for mullets and other 90's comic trends (leather jackets/bomber jacket, etc.)
Really love CBG Comic Buyer's Guide back in the 80s - Those promo posters they would include from time to time were classic! Still have the Walt Simonson posters! Thanks for the video!

This era with the diamond of the covers is my second favourite after byrne's super.
What I remember of this story the events run fast and questions are asked with answers as well. I would recommend this storyline to anyone.

Great overview as always Omar !!! Really need to upgrade to the new Death and Return of Superman Omnibus I have the 2nd printing but sadly it's starting to fall apart.
I finally pulled the trigger and bought this. I wasn't intetested and bought the trade paperback but since this included the foldout page I thought it would be cool to have. I do like the newspaper print style that's found in the paperbacks though.

I want more superman omnis... Spiderman, X-Men, Batman, Conan, etc, etc get SO MANY omnis, but no love for Supes
Superman Adventures badly needs omnibus treatment. The art style is consistent and the stories are just great for Superman. STAS has the best supervillains for Supes.
I'm surprised Geoff Johns Superman run hasn't been collected
Got the first printing long ago. Missed out on the 2019 printing but if this printing lays better then things worked out. My copy is on the way. Only read the iconic death issues as well as the first issues of the Reign of Supermen arc back in the day.
Love this storyline, one of my favorite storylines of the 1990s from DC comics (other than batman Knightfall). I have the death of superman and return of Superman in trade paperback but I would grab it if I didn't already have it (in the "crappy paperbacks" that Omar talked about earlier but I found those cheap ($5 for death of superman, $10 for return of Superman; glad they're in my collection! Thanks for sharing Omar! If you guys don't have this storyline in your collection I suggest you buy it right now and read it in either this format or the trade paperbacks!

Received my copy this week. This is one heavy book. Would a DC Comics Presents Omnibus, lots of fun Bronze Age Superman stories.

Now we need the gap between Exile and this. Superman/Doomsday to conclude, giving us Doomsday orgin. And do I need to even mention John Byrne MOS.
So DC reprints are as good if not better that the originals and Marvels are significantly worse. Marvel needs to get their shit together.
Or charge more for books which I guess it’s the alternative.

Omar sextuple dipping on Death and Return of... I love it. Finally got around to reading this before the end of 2023. It's funny how I misremembered details from the issues that I used to own. Now as far as hair goes, Longshot had a real mullet compared to Supes. And how they got away without giving him a longer beard.

Wow, I didn’t care to buy the original 2007 printing because I remember thinking the contents seemed incomplete at the time but this is the first I’m learning that they went as far as eliminating Matrix scenes from the story. Just when I thought I could put my hatred of Didio’s DC behind me, this somehow reactivated my anger 15 years later. I *hated* DC’s dismissal of Matrix/Linda.
Glad DC is finally figuring out how to collect their classics.

Most of the bigger discount sites stocked out. FP and Amazon seem to be the only ones with stock, probably due to the higher prices. Reed comics still has it as a pre-order for the 10.06.22, so maybe there might be more stocks arriving at the others??

When looking this up on Amazon it mentions it's part of a 3 book collection. Is that just an error or are there 3 OMNIBUS's for this arc?
Was hoping if I picked this up it would cover the entire story and arc vs having to buy multiple collections.
got this last month..such a big volume book but still few stories were incomplete.. like story of Sasha what happened after personality stealing incidents and Annuals that come in between about Aliens also seem incomplete

I bought the new printing (2022 edition) and mine does bot have the double spread page. Is it missing from just my copy or does 2022 printing does not have that, unlike 2019 printing......help me out, if anyone can

I've never read this iconic story. I only watched the animated adaptations.
really debating on updating [I have the 2019 ver]....for me it's all about the spine. If it's any better, then maybe. If not, definitely gonna pass.
Quality book. Much more so than the thinner omnibuses from Marvel recently. And the back of the book is stating the truth. The death of Superman was on the news, in newspapers, etc. The hype for the Return was a big deal among comic fans back then. Epic story with an epic payoff.

I was there back then too… this event made the actual news! It was huge!
Imagine CNN having a segment on Dark Nights Metal… sounds ridiculous now, but it was a very real thing back then. It was an amazing time to be a comic book reader.
That said, I think they kept the long hair for too long after he came back. When Clark was first “rescued” from the rubble, it was revealed that the whole thing took like 3 weeks… no one wondered how Clark’s hair grew too fast. It was so strong, but it was hampered a bit by dumb stuff like that. What I really love about the arc, even today:
-the Cadmus stuff in Funeral for a Friend
-Superman #80 might be my favorite single issue of all time (destruction of Coast City). The desperation of Eradicator and Superboy against Henshaw was so well done. It’s my favorite Jurgens pencil work, as well.
-The scope of its impact on the Green Lantern Corps
-The street level stuff in Man of Steel
Also, bring back triangle numbers for events!!

Omar, if Onslaught is what made you leave comics, this is what made me leave comics. Until 25 years later when I discovered your channel , and now I’m buying up all the Omnis for all the good runs I missed. This isn’t one of them!

As this is probably the best omnibus about Superman from old times, it is good that DC reprints it if sold out fast after 2019 print✌️
My viewers wanted to see the build of this compared to the 2019 version . So I compared it. It lays over better and I don’t think anyone wasted their money, well maybe me to do this comparison. So I guess… you’re welcome?
