I know around 6 years ago when Sword of Azrael was not included in this omnibus, many people theorized that DC would release a Sword of Azrael OHC to accompany the Knightfall Omnis. Well, we are still waiting!
I had planned on picking this up for my birthday but just a few weeks ago I found a copy on eBay for $30! It wasn't in the best condition but it was fine for me! Plus it was sold by a guy who only lives like an hour and half from me so I got it the next day!
I realized Santa Prisca is such a fascinating place. Bane was born here, and Question had his adventure here too. It has the potential to be DC's Madripool. Shame they never bother to explore the possibility.
They had a chance to get the spines to match the other two books. Nope. Come on, DC. Maybe if/when the next 2 volumes get reprints they'll match this one, but that seems unlikely.
Probably so people with the other volumes wouldn't just buy the new volume 1 so they'd match. I assume they'll reprint with this new spine in the hopes people will buy them all so they match
@@MatchesMalone98 nope, the old spines dont match too, they are part of the drawing on the cover so it will never be able to match with other spines. Looks horrible on the shelf. I had to print some custom dustjackets for my old prints of these omnibuses...
I hope DC plan on reprinting volumes 2 & 3 at some point. I would also love to see a deluxe edition HC that reprints Shaman, Venom and Sword of Azrael all in one volume. They are all important precursors to Knightfall.
I'm definitely not. I've already bought this story twice and 150 is definitely steep for Knightfall part 1 with thinner pages. I mean, it's just Knightfall. Part 1! Damn, DC. Here's where I definitely slow down with jumping on new omnibus editions. This is just greedy.
I swear, Batman not calling Nightwing to defeat Bane was very, very dumb and it has no justification whatsoever. I mean, Jean Paul Valley is a guy he just met, and he knows Dick Grayson for ages!. And I always wonder, what if Batman wasn't tired and sick before fighting Bane ? Would he had beat him at that moment ?
Reading those biographies on the inside flaps and realizing that half the creators have since passed away. 😐 Hopefully that Vol 3 reprint will return yet again a few years down the line.
Years back my sister had bought me the 3 thin trades which covered the run. Can't wait to read all the stories leading up to it. I'm most definitely getting this 👍 Thanks for the overview NMC
Time for a re-read! I hope they collect the 90s Batman and Detective stories into compendium form. The early Caped Crusader and Dark Knight Detective trades seem to be out of print.
Asked twice during the recent lives stream if you knew whether these were getting a reprint (new collector and its one of the stories that have drawn my instant attention). Thankfully hopped on someone else's video and found Vol 1 was reprinted recently so managed to find a random site with two copies left to be able to order from 🤞 hopefully turns up in decent condition. Praying they reprint the second two volumes to accompany this, as I've heard how rare they can be to get hold of, especially the third

I know I’ve cut back a lot and won’t by the books if they are going to increase prices by 1/3. This one was 100$ in 2017, so that’s a 50 increase in 6 years.

@@DrakonR true but comics have rapidly risen in price due to "variant cover" purchase requirements Shops can't make money and prices go up to reflect that. Inflation just made it worse
Here's my best attempt at giving you answers: 1.) They didn't include Sons of Azreal because this is a reprint. DC sends the same exact file to the printer. Easy-peesy. And... 2.) They cover art they already paid for. It isn't ugly. That's your opinion. Sorry you don't like it. DC would have to pay for new art, for this and two other volumes. They're not going to do that. @@thomasryan6240 I get both those things, but in all fairness those two things have been criticisms of these collections for a while now. And I'm not talking about the cover art in general, just the way the spines looked when lined up.
My first omnibus ordered from CGN. My friend at the time got me into Batman during this run. I'm more of a Marvel fan, but I read most of the this trilogy.
I read that nightfall wasnt great but i am really interested in these dystopian "lost/dead hero" stories Can someone give me an unbiased pro con list on this ans if its worth it for me to dive into (new to omnibus reading but am definitely not new to DC and batman)
I love Knightfall. It shows Batman as a man, who can be broken, and rise again. It shows that not just anyone can be Batman. If the wrong guy wears the cowl, he won't be able to handle it. The cons are that it is too long in the second act. Bruce's recovery may seem a little too comic booky. The choice of his successor is a little weird. I know the first printing had some binding issues. Even when I picked one of the original omnis up at an lcs, the binding seemed very unstable. I love this story. Hope this helps!

Maybe that's why. He knew dick couldn't beat him and didn't want to put him in danger. Batmans overprotective is one of the reasons dick left

There are more issues collected in this omnibus than the trades.
They are the set up to Knightfall. Where Bane his squad are scheming and interacting with Riddler and Killer Croc.
