Looking forward to picking this up when it's reprinted next year. Really hope they keep the same cover. Fingers crossed they do some kind of omni(s) to fill in the gap between Exile and Death/Return.
Great memories of comics in the 1990's. As these came out, I was there for all of the issues and was riveted. Man, I loved the 1990's comics, yes even with Image doing what they did, lol.
Glad to see this being reprinted. A time when comicsmade you come back for the next one, and I love the mini supes sheild with the year and week number in it help readers keep track. I read reign as comics and death via a trade but that was back in the 90's. What we need is knightfall/knightquest next.
These were some of the first comics I ever purchased or read as a kid, and for nostalgic reasons, some of the only floppies I still have, complete with those incredible 90s ads. I recently picked up the MoS 1-3 HCs and the Exile Omni so I was stoked to see this reprint get announced.
This was naturally one of the first stories I read when I got into buying comics. I got it it in 3 trades. I remember a trade came out with all of them but if I remember, it was missing issues from the Reign era to cut on page count. Maybe I was miss remembering though but I decided not to pick it even though I needed an upgrade/replacement since my reign trade had the cover coming off. This seems like a good replacement.
During the mid 70's through 1989 I was more of a marvel fan then DC and after hearing you explain the superman numbering system I'm glad I was. What a head jammer
I love this omni. Its one of the top 3 favorite omnis that i own. I have the third printing and watching your overview of this omni years ago helped me make up my mind to buy this.
Can't wait to pick this up next year 😁 would love to see a Teen Titans by Geoff Johns omnibus retroview next since it's being reprinted next year as well 😆
Absolutely loving the retroviews as of late. Glad they’re back! And based on the views on these vids, I might not be the only one who loves these. :) Algorithm gang!
I remember getting these stories. My parents were even asking me about Superman because they heard it on the news. I went to my LCS and they were lined up outside to get the comic. QVC was having comic book shows on their schedule around this time . I remember they had bagged issues signed by Louise Simonson, Dan Jurgens, Brett Breeding , Jon Bogdanove. Roger Stern and Mike Carlin for sale. I’ll definitely be getting the Omnibus.
Already preordered this omnibus since I missed all the previous reprints. I remember reading all of this when it originally came out. That is a BIG book! Excellent overview as always Omar.
I remember how big of a deal this was when I was in junior high, I didn't keep up with comics but I had to read that story. When I got into comics earlier last year I found the first print omnibus used at my LCS and had to buy it. Now I have the new print preordered and can't wait.
I'm not very interested in superman as a solo character but i love this story so much! I have the printing before this one with less content but i'm thinking about upgrading. Maybe i'll have to re-watch the video you made a few years ago about upgrading to this printing....
I Absolutely loved but also liked the retroviews I,m really glad they're back, also excellent video about The life and Death of Superman Omnibus Hardcover Omar congrats.also the following comics and graphic novels I've already purchased are:1.The Adventures of Superman (1st series)#500(1993),2.SuperMan(2nd series)#82(1993),3,3.SuperMan/Doomsday Hunter/Prey (mini series)#3(1994),4.Return of Superman trade paperback(1994), 5.Superman/Doomsday Hunter/Prey Trade Paperback (1995,1994),6.Superman:Doomsday Trade paperback( 2007,1994,1998,2001),7.Superman:The Return of Superman Volume 4 Trade paperback (2016,1993), & 8. Superman:Doomsday Volume 5 Trade Paperback (2016,1994,1995,1998,1999),also I,m looking forward to reading the new printing of the Life and Death of Superman Omnibus Hardcover next year once the holidays are over also Omar thank you for posting this video. And once again 👌 up the 👍 work and stay safe and stay healthy.
Nice! Great story of one of the more iconic stories, cool book, have most of them in originals or paperback. Back when another favorite DC character of mine Batman was still sane & more stable, nowadays he,d be spouting off about how doesn't matter Superman's dead, because he,s still the God Damn Batman !! LOL. ( Or if Frank Miller wrote that whole story line?). Lol 😆🤣.
My favourite story about the creation of this story is that they originally wanted to get Clark and Lois married as the big event but DC management said they couldn't because they weren't yet married in the "Lois & Clark: The New Adventures of Superman" TV show and now without an idea Jerry Ordway , as a joke, said "we could always kill him". And as it turns out when you're all out of ideas *any* idea seems like a good idea.
Omar possible tries to make the retroreview mirror of the Knightfall Saga, and JLA International, great video as always, may God bless you and your family always!
Wait, was is this omnibus about? I’m confused. Lol I didn’t realize that about how the paneling was done. Very cool. Who wants to bet that Omar will be getting the new printing? 😂
This is the only Omnibus I've ever double-dipped on (triple-dipped if you count the old TPB:s that came out in the 90's). I bought the second printing but decided to get the third one because of the gorgeous cover. As for getting the fourth printing: probably not, but who knows? Also, despite having read this material a lot of times (I even bought the gimmicky "Newstime" special when it was released), for some reason I completely missed the bigger panels thing!
I really like this storyline. One of the best periods in Superman life. Knighfall Omnibuses maybe are a little bit better, but still it is good. I cannot wait when DC will publish Fall of Metropolis in Omnibus. That would be AMAZING!!!
Some of the issues in this omni (including the actual Death of Superman issue) were among the Superman issues I've had in my collection since childhood. I may have to buy it because I really enjoy the Reign of the Supermen stuff, lol.
reprint 2022 i seen back it includes half of these books confused why .........which is the best omnibus to own of the death and return of superman 2nd and 3rd printing
We gotta get our voices heard for DC to give us that Panic In The Sky omnibus. My OCD is killing me seeing Exile and Others, *blank space,* then this 3rd printing of Death & Return. And if they can reprint this book for a fourth time I know they can give us MOS in omni.
Got into comics fairly recently and I tried to read this but got bored senseless by the reign of the supermen story line and ended up just dropping it. May give it another shot if I can get my hands on a reprint
is this the best thing to buy if i want to read this story arc currently? i have never read an omnibus and was always confused why it had a mish mash of random issues hahahaha
I dont know why most of the fans doesnt like Jon Bogdanove´s art. In my opinion is full of movement, strength and good composition. Faces and bodies are well drawn. As a matter of fact Man of steel # 19 cover is in a frame in my study. Thanks for the review Omar.
I read the original issues and all it's crossovers when it first came out. It was such a big deal at the time. But a few years ago as I was thinning out my comic collection, I realize I couldn't see myself ever reading this entire saga again so I sold the entire thing. So I can't convince myself why I should buy the Omnibus.
Jeez, that binding though! I've got the most recent printing of Y:The Last Man, I think (the one that came out in May?) and the binding is pretty bad. Why don't they sew them nice and thick and tight like the Marvel or Image Comics hardcovers? Is it the fact that it's 1400 pages?
Is the new printing the same as this one you are showing? Because they have had about three different omnibus of this story so far. Not to mention all the trade editions.
I have the "Death of Superman" "world without a Superman" and "Return of Superman" trades from the Nineties. Is the content the same as in this omnibus? Is the printing quality much better in this edition?
Been wanting to read more x men and ive been thinking. Marvel should release an omni that includes the og clairemont uncanny x men stories along with the added stories from x men classic.
So was Green Arrow. So were Hellblazer, Sandman and Swamp Thing (if a little off to the side). Barring Preacher, isn't that every BL omni so far? IDK, it seems like a good fit to me!!
I bought the death of supes thinking I would get a great story, but felt let down by the plot - never got around to the rise of the supermen and after issues
I have this in the 5 graphic novels with the connecting spine, making up the bleeding S symbol
Looking forward to picking this up when it's reprinted next year. Really hope they keep the same cover. Fingers crossed they do some kind of omni(s) to fill in the gap between Exile and Death/Return.
so it's man of steel, exile and then death of superman right? that's the order?
I'm going to collect man of steel vol 1 -3 and this. I've never read superman.
I'm currently reading ultimate spiderman and I love it
Great memories of comics in the 1990's. As these came out, I was there for all of the issues and was riveted. Man, I loved the 1990's comics, yes even with Image doing what they did, lol.
Glad to see this being reprinted.

I read reign as comics and death via a trade but that was back in the 90's.
What we need is knightfall/knightquest next.
Omar's commitment to not spoil things is in another level. If he won't spoil you this book then he won't spoil anything!
These were some of the first comics I ever purchased or read as a kid, and for nostalgic reasons, some of the only floppies I still have, complete with those incredible 90s ads. I recently picked up the MoS 1-3 HCs and the Exile Omni so I was stoked to see this reprint get announced.

I'm so getting this
I love this omni. Its one of the top 3 favorite omnis that i own. I have the third printing and watching your overview of this omni years ago helped me make up my mind to buy this.
Glad to see a reprint. I will get this for sure!
Super excited for the reprint on this book. Never have been a Superman fan, but reading Tomasi/Gleason’s material has me interested in the character

gonna get the new printing this year absolutely love that omni dust jacket plus this will be my first superman comic ever!
That's one of my favourite Superman eras / storylines, that's a great looking collection!
Recently picked up the Exile omnibus when I heard this was coming back around :) Now.........if we can only get some more of those triangle years!!

I was looking at this but I already have the whole event in trades anyway awesome video.👍🏾🤘🏾
Might be a buy. I will definitely keep my eyes out.
Can we get a Super Man reading order to celebrate, please? I would like to see the sequel to this omnibus, Hunter/Prey, get an absolute edition.
I think Omar is waiting and that Man of Steel vol 4 to drop and then do that reading order. I'm also anxiously awaiting, lol
@@dhmcadams662 Will volume four of Man of Steel be the final one?
@@kytim89 Should be. That will take us to the Exile Omnibus. We still need the stuff from Exile to Death of to get collected one of these days though.

Not before January when the Man of Steel vol 4 is released.
so relaxing watching your omnis omar
Another fantastic review brOmar! Do the trades with the connected icon on the spine contain the same material as this omni?
Due to my insane love for this story,it being the first tpb I ever owned.I am thinking of getting the 3000 dollar prime 1 Superman vs doomsday piece.
Yep I'm getting the next printing.
10:35 Gimmicky? Nah, it's flippin' awesome! :P

Can't wait to buy the reprint. Have you heard any news on Predator omnibus being back on track?
I still have the original TPBs, but I will likely upgrade to the newly reprinted Omni.
Now, if DC would only print the Man of Steel omnibus ( and all the material not published in Exile & other stories ).

Ollie's Bargain outlet stores have carried the trades recently, around $3.99 each.
Wait, why is Doomsday Blue at the beginning?
Wish they would put the text on the book and spine and not just the book cover.
Quick Q: Is the reprint going to be under the "Black Label"?
There's no reason for that. This is in the main continuity.

I wish Jim Lee, Marc Silvestri, Todd McFarlane, J. Scott Campbell, Whilce Portacio or another legend from iMage comics drew this.
