    Hey, Daniel. I'm a recent subscriber and I just want to thank you for doing these timely comparison given the absolute crazy (in a good way!) state the GPU market is in. I'm wanting to upgrade from my faithful 1080ti that can easily do 4K 60fps in older and optimized (Forza Horizon 5) titles, and your videos are doing all the leg work I would have done on my own. I hope to see the full range of 3000 series cards before the school year starts and you have to lessen your upload schedule. Keep up the great work!

    I like my 3060 because I found it well under $400 around MSRP and the Ti's were well over $600 around that time. I just refuse to pay $500+ for a GPU when I know this 3060 will get me well down the road for a while. I don't mind dropping image quality from ultra to high because most of the time you never see the difference but your performance can go way up. I also just need a 1080 card for my current monitor and the 3060 will do that well. It's also paired up well with my 11400 CPU with minimal bottlenecking if any. For the price and performance, I feel pretty good about it.

      I actually think it's not that weak provided that if it was selling at or near its msrp of $330. It was supposed to compete with the RX 6600 which had the same msrp for better performance. But as we know now it never sold anywhere near its msrp which made it a difficult buy from a pure price to performance compared to its competition.

    OH! Absolutely! I not only do gaming but I do CAD work as well. So, I picked up a Asus 3060Ti dual-bios V2 OC on the cheap (re-firb) and was really "impressed" with not only the LOWER temps, but overall performance with CAD and raytracing vs. my Asus Phenix V2 OC 3060 with 12Gb of ram! Now I only have 8Gb of ram but is STILL preforms much better in both gaming and CAD work! VERY happy! Runs BETTER while maintaining OC GPU speeds and 20C less temperature and weak OC speeds that the 3060 provided. I ONLY run a 1080P set-up which is FINE for CAD and gaming for me. I do CAD at my workplace and have ALWAYS run 1080" on dual 24" monitors. At "home" I have a "fast" 1080P 27" monitor and a 15" "side" monitor for multi-tasking. "Works for me!"

    I play on a 55" 4K TV and sit close. So ideally I would have liked it to play 4K 60fps as TV is only 60Hz. Doesn't look fast enough for that so will need to go down to 1440P. The FE cards always sell well in the UK, so hopefully can get a good sale once I upgrade.

      Bro, I was the exact same.. 3ft away from a 50'' 4k TV and I recently upgraded to a 32'' PC monitor. Why? because it's 165hz refresh rate and going from 60Hz to 165Hz is surreal. Don't focus so much on quality, focus more on refresh rate. There was options for 4k monitors, but I went with 1440p to keep the cost low. I'm enjoying my PC 10x more than I did with a 4k TV as a monitor and I'm mostly gaming at 1080p. Still looks SO much better.

      Sure you have some AIBs like MSI, ASUS and others increasing the power to get a little more performance. But it only nets a few extra frames over baseline.

    Sorry for broken English but I do need suggestions....

  • @cubdukat
    @cubdukat 2 ปีที่แล้ว +13

    Just on tech specs alone, it's worth it. The TI has a 256-bit interface like the 3070, while the 3060 just has a 192-bit interface. True, the Ti only has 8GB compared to the 3060's 12GB, but at least right now that's not the issue it would seem to be.
    I was considering the 3060 because I primarily use my system for video editing and might need the 12GB, but after doing some tests this weekend with my 6GB laptop and a couple of 8K RED Monstro files to see whether it would max out the GPU memory (it didn't), I decided that when I upgrade my desktop's card, the very minimum I will be looking at is a 3060 Ti, preferrably a Founders Edition if I can find it. Obviously I won't be getting 4K gaming with everything turned full on (or even half on), but I could definitely do 1440p like that very comfortably. I only have three raytraced games in my collection (Control, Wolfenstein: Youngblood and Quake RTX), so the Ti would fit in quite nicely.
    The other consideration was that right now I'm looking at whatever card I get as being a placeholder until the 40 Series is either widely available or available period. So that meant that whatever I got, I had to look at the possibility of being stuck with it for at least a year (I've been stuck with my current GTX 960 for at least seven years), so I had to balance performance with resale value. That's how I determined that a Ti would be better because it seems to be very much in demand. I can find several 3060s at our local Micro Center, while 3060 Ti's are more dear and still grossly overpriced. Hopefully this will change when I'm ready to buy in August, otherwise I'll be buying used.

      I wouldn't buy now and then ALSO go out and get a 40-series... i'd say, if you need/want a card now, buy one now. Get one you'll be happy with for a couple years and skip the 40-series... there will always be a 50-series. If you don't need a new GPU right now... just hold out a little longer and get a 40-series... I don't think you can go wrong buying a 30-series now or waiting for a 40-series... the only thing I think seems like a waste of effort is buying a 30-series now just to wait a few months to buy again with a 40-series.

    8GB seems like it'll become the new 4GB in a couple of years.
    Am I giving to much importance to the VRAM? Does the performance outweigh the low VRAM?

    • @stevensgarage6451
      @stevensgarage6451 ปีที่แล้ว

      Its something to consider. I play at 1080p and i can max the settings and RT in most games but a couple like watch dogs need more vram to max out the ray tracing. It has the power to stay above 60 fps but 8GB isnt quite enough. 8gb is enough for flight sim but max settings are too demanding. Very High = 45fps. a 3070 /ti has the extra power to max flight sim but the same 8gb vram issue. The 3060 has an extra 4gb of slower vram and 30% less cores. The 3060ti can run cyberpunk with max RT in 1080p dlss quality at 60fps with 1% low 50s. It doesnt use the full 8gb vram and it still drops below 60. So in most cases the 3060 cant utilize the 12gb and the Ti wouldnt benefit from more vram. 10 or 12gb 3080 or AMD card may be an option.

  • @pf100andahalf
    @pf100andahalf 2 ปีที่แล้ว +36

    I've heard the 3060 makes more sense when you do more rendering than gaming which allegedly renders faster with 12 gb vram, and the 3060 ti makes more sense for just gaming. I do know my 3060 ti is an awesome card and I consider it a high end card since I don't care about ray tracing. For instance, as shown in the benchmarks, at 1440p with my 3060 ti I'm getting around 90-100 fps in cyberpunk 2077 on high with dlss on quality, and with dlss off I get around 70 fps. And measuring by that performance, since cp 2077 is maybe the heaviest game right now, I get great performance in every game. All things considered price/performance-wise I think the 3060 ti is the best graphics card of this generation. My second choice would be the rx 6700 xt.

    • @PaulJohn01
      @PaulJohn01 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Yep my 1st choice is a 6700xt for my new build. I'm in the Philippines and supply on those is low and no price decrease in a long time, they're about $700.
      Over the last few days i've started seeing a lot of 3060/ti becoming available for good prices, lowest 3060 12gb yesterday at $430, now my budget is only $300 😁😁 as all PC parts in the Philippines are expensive but i don't mind waiting even 3 more months.
      I have a small gaming channel ( your profile pic is 1 I use for some thumbnails 🤣🤣 ) so 3060/ti would be good for both rendering and gaming and a good long term upgrade over my 1060 6gb.

      @@JudeTheTH-camPoopersubscribe I realize that at some point 8 gb vram won't be enough, but at least for the next few years the only time you'll need more than 8 gb vram is running at 4k with ray tracing, and the 6700 xt isn't fast enough to turn on ray tracing at 4k anyway. When cards can do 60 fps at 4k with ray tracing turned on, that's when you're going to need more than 8 gb vram.

    i bought mine used zotac amp white 3060 LHR few weeks ago for about $320. pretty good card. low temperature around 65 while gaming, low power consumption 165w (lower than 2060s), more quiet fans and capable to max setting all triple a games. plus it has more vram which really useful if you play games while doing other things in background. im pretty sure Ti version is faster but non Ti is already good with the price. I would not take Ti version for just more fps but high temp and high tdp.

      Vram has nothing to do with background task. Ram does, not video ram. Anything that needs a bunch of vram isnt a background task and its going to be a significant load on the gpu. For example 8Gb is enough for most games and 4gb is enough to mine crypto or edit video but you still couldnt do both at the same time. Both need the full GPU to run properly. I can max out cyberpunk and watch a 1080p movie or youtube on my 2nd monitor with a full gaming load on my 3060ti and it wont drop fps at all, yours wont either. Background task can run on an iGpu so its not even a load for an rtx

    you got the point, i had in my hand both rtx 3060ti and 3060, same model, msi gaming X.. well i ended keeping the non-ti: at the end i can push 9000mhz on vram on 3060 while 8400mhz on Ti, bandwidth is still less on 3060 but like that is on the 3060ti def setting area; core can be pushed over 2000mhz while undervolting around 0.986v for keep it always under max PL (180W), while the Ti is sitting at 1950mhz for same undervolt and max PL (230w). Fallout 4 (modded) actually is the only game i saw using more than 10gb vram on 1080p. For my 1080p/144hz setup i ended keeping the non-Ti cause of this, so, dropping just few setting in heavy games like shadows and/or aa from ultra to high/very high, rtx 3060 oc/uv performing more or less same as 3060ti oc/uv with all ultra setting, consuming average 40-50w less , with mostly 10° less heat (same cooler), way less noise and +4gb vram

      @@XxAtomic646xX if you has a model with higher max TDP to squeeze, like 250w or more, like the Strix one with 325W max is ok;
      otherwise, low or mid tier card with lower than 230w tdp max, it going power limited very easely when gaming, and freqs throttling alot less at that point. My 3060ti Gaming X, with max 230w, @1950mhz and 0.986v it just was reaching peaks at 227-229W easely. Depends on games. In my actual 3060 i set 2 profiles, 1st @2010mhz 0.986v for common games with high watts peaks, and the 2nd @2100 1.012v for games that have less peaks and never reach near max tdp (180w), like AC Origins that im playinig right now. That is still undervolt. 3060ti of course is better, depends on games, can vary from 15 to 30% stock vs stock. 3060 ocing better on vram cause of less bus/bandwidth

    Cool review and just in time for me to decide on what new (or possibly used) GPU to purchase.
    The only issue is that I am not a gamer, but I am a content creator for others, and I count on CUDA cores and other factors for encoding. It would have been cool to have a side-by-side comparison between the two cards in encoding the same video that has some effects applied. Perhaps it could have been encoding this very video, which would have been neat to see. Which is faster and by how much?
    Does the VRAM of the 3060 help do a lot of heavy Premier Pro lifting? Does anyone have any performance data concerning this?
    Anyway, I appreciate your perspective and your videos. They are engaging and informative.

      It was a big uplift over my GTX 970 that I was using before.
      Don't count on just my opinion, because it all depends on your needs, but if you want something good that will work well with Adobe and video encoding, then the 3060 TI is a good investment.
      However, if I would have been in the situation now and debating the issue, I might have waited until AMD's new cards are released on Dec. 13 and I saw some testing results. AMD has suggested that their new GPUs will work better with Adobe and OBS and video encoding. If so, and if they release a mid-range card in January or February, that may be a better option and a better cost perspective.
      But if you need/want something now, the 3060TI is a good choice and the 8GB has been working fine. But it depends on what you want and what you are currently using if it is the right choice.

    You should use AC and BF to test how future games will work. What you are doing now is akin if 15 years ago you were using Crysis to test how games will be developed in the near future. You see, the goal of publishing company AND developers is to sell more, not less. Seeing how ~5% of gaming community played Crysis and most out of those had bad hardware to run it on, tells you that Cyberpunk is exactly the opposite of what gamers will want to play in the future given the requirements and pricing of the required hardware. Cyberpunk is just the Crysis of 2020s. Tech demo.
    edit: come to think of it, pricing policies unchanged, people will move more and more towards Consoles. Very small amount of people in the World are willing to pay $500 for 760, 960, 1060, hell, 3060. You can get a Console for that money, able to render at the same or similar pace as a ~$1500 PC with 3060 in it. See Red Dead Redemption II and comparable framerate on PC vs the Console. Then look at the price.
    I am writing this because you keep deluding yourself with this Cyberpunk nonsense.

    I think it would make more sense to do the benchmarks with cpus that would typically be bought with whichever graphics card. But nah, every benchmark just has the best cpus on the market which makes any gpu to look better. But if we want realistic fps numbers then it would be fair to pair it with the most common bought cpus with each gpu

    even tho rtx 3060 has more ram it has also less bandwith, which is kinda counterproductive
    in my country rtx 3060 is exactly +25% in price So from value standpoint, they are the same, but I didn't had addidtional money to buy ti one, and just had catched a great deal on rtx 3060
    It still about doubled my framerate with rx 580
    But to be honest i prefered rx 580 Not that rtx 3060 is bad, it still about doubled my fps, but the g-sync compared to freesync pro is
    Like, with freesync pro exactly or just above 50fps was perfectly playable
    With g-sync near 60 is, well, playable, *just playable*

    First of all these are all CPU heavy games, CPU limited in many sense. Of course you wont see that much of a difference. At 1440p even less I guess. But you should also use DLSS when you use that for the 3060 don't you think? In my experience the 3060Ti is a nearly 50% better performing card than the standard 3060. I would say 1440p high refresh rate gaming is where a 3060Ti shines vs the 3060. Price difference is coming down due to 3060 keeping its price stubborn, but the 3060Ti less. It is basically a 3070 actually.

      Haha! you are right! I'm on my pc watching now, not my phone, i could not see properly. even has color arrangement i did not spot.
      However, why don't 3060 use more vram? It does have 12gb, still i know the TI with only 8gb actualyl does a better job, i tried the 3060, and it felt as crap as my gtx1070oc card ( that stopped working here the other day, poor old card ) But i aint sad, i just buildt 3 setups, and selling one of them since, well when i build, i tend to be happy for a moment, then find that i wanna change a fan or two or two, or want different Dimms, or like i did this month, just had to have the rog strix thor 1200w plat, and the rog strix 4080oc, and why the hell not he rog strix z590e gaming wifi while we are at it. then i saw this awesome 140mm from corsair, led red 2200 RPM with insane CFM, im also gonna buy some more fan and exchange even tho every fan is pretty neat as is, its just my inner builder that wants the CFM and RPM of all fans to be as synced as possible. Not having trouble with temps, its just a thing i guess, i am also in my 2nd build exhanging 3 fans. 2 of them because they are crappy stock NZXT fans that i want to exchange for corsair rgb LL120mm instead, and the BeQuiet fan that is set to exhaust back is getting exchanged to a QL120mm from corsair. Big fan of Corsair, not that i use em for everything, but the rgb fans, the cfm the rpm, and the conveniant way to adjust everything in iCue just gets you hooked if you like RGB that is.
      Ram... fucking hardest choice to have in your PC... you want one that your motherboard supports, you wanna run dual if thats your motherboards design, you want the lowest possible CAS, while you also want to be able to carry some weight. (MHz) So i started off on one of my builds with G.skill aegis non rgb dimms, 3000mhz unbuffered CL 16-18-18-34
      Then i tought i want more.. so i went with kingston beast fury rgb 3200 or 400 MHz can't recall atm, not using either of them, but the timings were CL16-18-18-38
      And had them for a while in my streamerrig which also can be called a high end gaming rig i mean.. i totally over did it! :P
      Now i bought, dont ask why, 4x16 gb of corsairs vengeance 4600MHz CL18 18-20-20-42 and tought to my self.... how come i put 4 dims in a dual channel mobo...? So the z590e supports the 4600MHz
      The Msi MAG Z590 tomahawk wifi on the other hand does not, it supports 4400, 4500, 4800 or so. But if you try to crank it UP to 4800, well GL&HF with that.
      So the correct thing would be to put back the 3000MHz that i sold, ( rebuy 100% supported dimms) or clock it down to a speed that the motherboard supports. say 4400MHz.
      Now here is the greed coming to play... i just left it at 4600 with the correct timings, and while it does work, no problems in R23 and everything works out fine in streams, games whatever the task is, the only issue i come across having it this way, is that you get a message in windows, stating "unsupported dimms found" Which isn't really a warning i mean i know right, and it is DDR4 ofcourse. Not that i've ever tried but i can imagine that putting a DDR5 or DDR3 would be quite hard to miss place as i dont think the tracks are the same.
      I had a build that lasted 10 years where all i did was upgrade the gpu on those 10 years. and the rig is actually still running home to a friend as his gaming pc.
      An easy i7-3770 (yeah haswell without a K i know ) on a MSI z77 with 32 gb of DDR3. couple of SSD's and you know, corsair XT750W oldschool non modular psu in an corsair case that dates back to 2011-12 ish.
      If you still reading then you're as nerd as I am i guess :P
      And i got ADHD, and the reason for all, is i felt like being social and share some of my interests with a stranger. Thanks pal!

    Running Rtx 3060 at stock, even that Strix version, in my opinion is wrong and it should be always overcklocked, and even better with some undervolt, because 3060 overclocks very well core and memory, gaining around 10% performance, while maintaining low power draw and temps... And with that gain, it's just enough good to keep all AAA titles not dropping below 60 fps even at native 1440p, with medium - high settings, or dlss.... If you really can't afford Ti version, I think this is still a good alternative way to go ...
