    Older video, I know, and obviously the job is done but to anyone else that reads this:
    I'd recommend making the vertical 3/4" shaft about 1/4" longer than stock. Then you put heavy duty 3/4" I.D.x 1 1/4" O.D. x 1/4" thrust bearings in between the bottom of the axle and top of spindle (in this case, the flat of the tie rod bracket.) That's wear all the weight rides.

      First time I hear about that kind of bearings (I'm a diy...,not a pro), but I have a LGT 165 too and I'm thinking about doing the same thing.. I love this idea. In this case here, which bearings would you renommend? Can you send a link of these bearings please? Tks.

    I LOVE UR VIDS, I WOULD HAVE BOUGHT A GARDEN TRACTOR IF I KNEW U COULD DO THIS WHAT U DID. INSTEAD I BOUGHT A N/H TZ 1024. IV BEEN DOING ENOUGH GARDEN WORK FOR A TRACTOR BUT NOT THAT FOR A BIG ONE. TKS FOR EVERYTHING

    When using sandpaper on the lathe, you really should put something over the bed to protect the precision surface from abrasive grit shed by the sandpaper. Also, one should be prepared for the sandpaper to get caught and pulled into the machine - a loose grip and close attention is important.

      Hey winter give us all a break here. Any good to say?

    • @darkwinter6028
      @darkwinter6028 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Ben - I stand by my comment. Abrasives are dangerous to precision machines; and having had my fair share of sandpaper yanked out of my hand I can state from experience that caution is warranted. As for having something nice to say... well... it’s a nice tractor?

    Your new spindles are only slightly stronger than the stock ones because the load at the base of the 3/4 axle pin is the same as stock. Here is a trick I did to a Gt14- right next to the axle seal area is a place which has enough meat to weld an upright to it. The upright goes right next to the top pin retainer (but does not touch it), and has a set screw which loads against the retainer. (wish I could do a pic of it but the machine is at my son's house). This gives some beef to the spindle. Mike

    Great and the tractor looks so much better with those tires! Some ags on the rear? Nice explaining about the welder and anti splatter spray.
    Btw love your ventilated trousers ;)

    • @Isavetractors
      @Isavetractors  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks Nils! I actually don't like the ag tires anymore. I have them on the Cub Cadet and if I push something heavy, they immediately dig a really big hole. The tires on this Ford provide me with traction but will slip and not dig a big hole if I over work it. I may change to an ATV type tread as a middle ground. But I have gotten stuck with the Cub Cadet twice now from the Ag tires digging big holes. I end up pulling myself out with the backhoe.

      I know what you mean. I have turf on my tractor for that exact reason, but the ags looks so much cooler! Perhaps som Carlisle all trail would be nice.

    I watched with interest . Kudos for building mounting heavier front hubs , one of the areas that lawn tractors are always weak is the front steering . But now the spindles are still light and the rest of the front axel will not be up to what your tires and hubs will carry . Do you have a vid on building a upgraded entire front axel

    I just bought a 165 open sided and the day after i got it home the left spidel snapped. Is there any chance you would manufacture these? Id love to add a loader to mine someday. I think this would be a magnificent upgrade

    Isavetractors if you put oil on the drill bit you don't destroy your bits i always put oil on the bit when I'm using the drill press also it doesn't get stuck

    • @Isavetractors
      @Isavetractors  7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi, thanks for the suggestion. I do put cutting oil on the bits, and find these big ones get stuck more than the little ones.

    Hi Norman, I was looking at buying a loader like the one you have on your ford and put it on my case 446 (like your Ingersoll) I couldn't find too much information online. I was wondering if the loader will be too small or it just wont fit. any information will help. thanks.

    • @Isavetractors
      @Isavetractors  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      What loader is it? A 446 can take a loader

    • @redacted9771
      @redacted9771 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      it looks exactly like the one on your ford but black, the guy selling it currently has it on a wheel horse.

    • @Isavetractors
      @Isavetractors  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Oh yea than it would be perfect for your 446. You may need to modify the subframe and mounting but the loader will be great for you.

      isavetractors perfect l, I just wanted to check with you because you have both and have experience with the loaders on these. Hopefully after I get it on I can possibly make a video to help others. Thank you.

    Lots of great stuff in your vids, I've watched a ton of them, not only a bunch good info but a lot of fun. Q for you Norm, I just bought a fairly tired open side LGT 165 /K341 with a loader and mini-backhoe and need to service the hydrostatic trans for starters. What is the make / model of the trans? Any info regarding where to buy parts for it is most appreciated also. I'll need assorted sundry parts for this rig in general, just getting started.

    • @Isavetractors
      @Isavetractors  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Eaton 1100 Hydro Transmission mated to a peerless 2500 2 speed rear end. Our business has all the engine parts you would need. I personally use Travellar brand universal hydraulic fluid in my rear end. It is sold by Tractor Supply Co. You have a GREAT tractor! Care for it well, and when you're sick of it, let me know. I'd buy it if you weren't too far!

    • @jeanjeudi1111
      @jeanjeudi1111 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks for the good info Norman. The LGT tractor itself needs some attention, we'll see how it turns out shortly. The loader and backhoe will be put right in any case, very useful equipment. The tractor is a bit rough, it's been worked pretty hard, always left outside and it shows. I think it's been given zero protection and a lot of jobs. I'm glad you're around Norm, my LGT/Kohler will be counting on you.

    If You have one or a line on one let me know what You want for it ?

      I was wondering about the same thing. I guess he probably just wanted to prevent potential future damages ($$$ and all the time wasted to fix it when you're working with it in the middle of a job and it brakes...!!) with heavy loads in the front bucket. Hey he got all the tools and the shop to do it, so why not prevent it and at the same time upgrading it!

    Cool vid.I would like to know what welder and generator you use.I went to forums and the welding guys all talk about bigger welders and generators.I would like a compact as possible setup.Thanks!

    • @Isavetractors

      Mr Frog I use a Klutch 140si Inverter welder with inetub. 035 flux core wire. Great welder and it's only $400. it's true about all Internet forums for every industry: users will always say bigger is better and discount smaller machines. the truth is you can do a lot with Flux Core wire and 140 amps. I use an anti spatter spray which keeps my welds very clean. I can't built a bridge with 140 amps but I've built loaders, backhoes, trailers, ground rippers axles and more with it

    • @mrfrog3350
      @mrfrog3350 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      isavetractors Thanks.I see northern tool has the welder for $369.What size generator?I'd like the portability of a generator/ welder,and not worry about a huge electricity bill.

    • @mrfrog3350
      @mrfrog3350 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      that's 16800 watts at 120 volts and 140 amps

    • @Isavetractors
      @Isavetractors  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Mr Frog that's 140 output amps. the input amps is only 20 so that's 2400 watts. I have several generators but I mostly run this from a 3250 watt generator and use a 30amp breaker.

    • @mrfrog3350
      @mrfrog3350 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      thanks-HUGE price difference between 17k generator and a used $100 5K generator I saw on craigslist.So a 5k should run that welder OK?

    He has great ideas, I gain so much from this guy, but I think i would have kept the originals in the drawer.. destroying them simply to reuse that dog leg steering arm seemed a bit of a waste, he could have easily fabricated a better one in a few hours.
