    Enjoy your videos, seems like a big investment to do it yourself unless you own your own shop. I learned a lot watching you !

      I always wonder to myself, wasn't easier to use a shovel dig a little dirt and drag the transmission out, rather than making your life miserable, disassembling more truck components, just my thoughts....!!!

  • @joellevesque3292
    @joellevesque3292 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Make sure to free up and check all clutch linkage rods. Also a good idea to make sure the rear engine mounts are in good shape. A lot easier to do with the trans removed! Good job!

      @tripplemmm86 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Well video one explains all that but you seem to know your stuff too , I’ll take it , knowledge me up .. talk some more 😂

  • @tree9851
    @tree9851 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Usually the rear structure will start leaking oil not long after a trans has been removed and reinstalled. Then you have to pull it ALL apart again. It's a good idea to just replace that gasket while your in there. It's a bunch more work but so is pulling a trans twice.

    I like your style and your video. That's called a structural housing. I'm not trying to tell you how to do your job but, You should have ran a dial indicator around that structural housing before you installed that seal. That would tell you if it needed to be replaced that it was running out of square. Due to a lot of torque they can warp. Again in 10 years.I feel pretty certain you'll be one of the greatest mechanics of the greatest. Medicine man retired.

    Ryan, to increase traffic, you can add hashtags AFTER your long description, making a space between description and hashtags. Also perhaps add X15 to title. Great job on a big job btw :)

    What model clutch caddy do you have? I cant seem to find the one that also has the flywheel plate adapter

  • @joereiche3547
    @joereiche3547 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    Dumb question ....I have seen videos where they pull the transmission and the clutch out together
    they rotate the engine and separate the clutch pressure plate thru the access hole ....no idea , maybe something I don't get but it seems easier???

  • @tbonepatti
    @tbonepatti 3 ปีที่แล้ว

    Good job Ryan. I like the way you explain as you go. Straight forward no fluff. One question. Why didn't you just run the truck up on some ramps to get it off the ground a bit. I've seen shop guy use just 2x6 stacked 3 or 3 high and staggered, Drive right up give you 6 to 8 inches clearance.

    • @truckingandfixing
      @truckingandfixing  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Good question. Someone asked me the same question the other day! For me, a relatively thin guy, it was enough clearance for me without a ramp. Rising the truck height will make removaland installation of the transmission a more dangerous work.

    Did you use the handy dandy truck ramps you made for maximum clearance? Great video. 👍

    • @truckingandfixing
      @truckingandfixing  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      I didn’t use it for this job. Because there is enough clearance. Plus the higher the truck, the more risky when removing and install the heavy transmission.

    Why did you use soap and water to lube the seal? My general rule of thumb is whatever fluid I’m sealing is the lubricant I use on reassembly. This a big truck kinda thing?

    • @truckingandfixing
      @truckingandfixing  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Your general rule is okay for other seals. But for this specific seal, Cummins specify soap and water.

    Hey Ryan question. Recently I went to turn on my truck and it doesn’t want to go into gear. Any gear , any idea where I should start looking? Solenoids? Clutch? Fly wheel? main seal? Thanks again keep it up super informative. I’m subscribed.

  • @simzah274

    Mate invest in Milwaukee impact wrenches, fart arsing around with air wrenches lol. 3/8 driver will bang those bellhousing bolts no sweet!
    Always remove the clutch with the box 10x easier!!!

    You need to wear a respirator bud dealing with all that clutch dust. It will give you cancer . Been a truck mechanic myself for 13 plus years you need to take care of yourself no one else will.

    The main people need to understand is how long it took this guy to do this job. Doing this in your front yard on the ground as he said is not the way to do this.

  • @NoName-cy7nl
    @NoName-cy7nl ปีที่แล้ว

    Call the tow truck to lift the truck, or next time put wood under the front tires

  • @simzah274
    @simzah274 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    Type of engine has nothing to do with removing a gearbox mate, it depends on the truck! Cabover, short nose or long nose.
