I've known about Juicy Marbles for about a year or so back when it sold for $150 per package. I can't wait to try it at $40...to me that's reasonable if it emulates a good steak! The only hangup is they are more often than not sold out on their website :(

Sign up for the email and just get it in before your major event. If you live in a cold area the steaks will most likely arrive frozen solid. You can stick em in for freezer and wait until your special occasion. I bought them three weeks before Valentine’s Day. Two weeks before Valentine’s Day they are sold out.

    That last part -- yes.
Look, I'm on the seitan society and like five vegan FB groups, and I cook all the damn time, but I have had no real success making my own fake meat that's as good as what I've been able to buy from Gardein/Impossible/fake magical asian meat, even when I've tried your recipes, Marc. The flavor I've gotten great at-- my soups, stocks, broths, add flavors to veg meat have been excellent, and I've made some truly delicious stuff lately largely thanks to your tricks BUT making the meat itself still alludes me. As it is, homemade food takes a long time to make, and veg food takes even longer if you need to homemake a stock or whatever when most people can just crack a can. Homemaking the meat as well as everything else is just not tenable most of the time and it's annoying seeing people comment asking why buy when you can make. I'm glad YOU have time and expertise, but I have neither. Also, nutrition facts -- I'm building muscle on a relatively high protein (for a veg) diet while cutting. Having a calorie/protein label is pretty indispensable. Also, my partner isn't veg, and if dinner always takes hours and hours and hours because of having to start from making the meat rather than slapping down a package of faux meat, it's a problem and he's probably just gonna decide to grill a chicken breast.
In short, there are a ton of reasons to buy rather than make. Personally I miss meat and I seek as many meat like products as possible. I didn't know about Juicy Marbles but I'll def keep an eye on them for when I'm feeling splurgy (them and Meati). I really appreciate you both giving an honest review.

Alas we are very limited for choice here in the UK. No good vegan steak alternatives that I have found, they are all gross.
I have however managed to find a a few plant based alternatives that I actually like better than meat.
I prefer beyond burgers and beyond sausages to beef burgers and pork sausages, neither of which I am a huge fan of anyway.
I have used Seitan a few times where I prefer it to chicken.
I cook Indian food a lot, and I have found that just using potato instead of meat works just fine, in fact I prefer it than chicken. I do not miss meat at all in curry, since it all about the spices.
Replacing cows milk was hard, as I just did not like the alternatives in coffee or on cereal. Soy milk I really did not like at all.
I ended up going with Oatly in the end, which I watered down to make is less thick, and this made a decent latte.
However now that I have stopped drinking cows milk completely, I bizarrely find I actually like soy milk now, in fact I prefer it.
As with all think plant based, you just have to get used to different flavours and not actually expect things to take exactly like meat. I think this is the big issue for most people, they are expecting it to taste exactly like meat, and then when it doesn't they decide its gross.
That was certainly me at the start of my journey as well. But once I changed my expectations, and just started looking for plant based food that I like, rather than things that taste like meat, I had better results.

To me, 40$ is still WAY to much especially if we want it to be a decent alternative for meat eaters too. Having said that, isn't innovation always expensive at the start? That's simply how it works and if we (as consumers) don't support Juicy Marbles now, when the steaks are sold for 40$, they will not be able to scale it up and lower the price at some point in the future. So honestly, props to you for buying it if you can justify the splurge! This would probably be the product I would buy only for my meat-loving father and personally, I would stick to seitan or jackfruit since I don't miss these realistic textures or flavours :D

I'm not vegan, but I love these videos so very much, specifically for the dairy alternative options as I'm lactose intolerant. That cheese sauce gave me a ton of ideas for making my own dairy free cheese sauces. Admittedly, I'll likely use it on non vegan cheesesteaks, but I won't lie that jackfruit looks phenomenal too- given the rising costs of meat, it's an option I'm more than tempted to look into when I want something meaty but can't afford the real thing.
Thank you for sharing your knowledge with us, regardless of dietary choices, these videos contain a ton of helpful cooking techniques that anyone can use.

Philly native here. I recently stopped eating meat and I've been SUPER sad that I won't be able to have cheesesteaks anymore. I can't do the juicy marbles because I can't have soy, but it's heartening to hear that jackfruit may work.
I tried seitan, and i just didn't care for it.

Question, how do you compare meat and non-meat products when all you seem to test is vegan versions?

    • @SauceStache
      @SauceStache  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

I'm not comparing, im just commenting my opinion. I'm also not vegan, and people dont suddenly forget what things taste like. Like every time you have a recipe that you havnt had in a while are you shocked by the way it tastes hahaha no. Tastes are not a easy thing to forget. If I had something today that I grew up on, even if I havnt had it for years I would immediately recognize the flavor, most people can.

I could not care less about being vegal but man. I love experimental cooking. I love the techniques that you present and I just absolutely adore the fact that you are unapologetic and devoid of stupid food ideologies like "unnatural is bad" ir "msg is toxic" or other bs like that.

2:55 bruh cooking in general is a science experiment, ur kitchen is practically a chemistry lab. These types of vegan recipes aren’t meant to be healthy, they’re meant to be fun. There are healthy vegan recipes, that’s not what we come to Sauce Stache for 🙄

He has the sample pack which is not for sale at all and is only 2 in the sample packs for free, the retail packages are a pack of 4 for $40 which means we (the consumers) are really paying $10 per steak and he only really made a $20 steak sandwich. I received both the free sample and the $40 pack of 4.
