In my opinion, he's the best re-imagined character. From Micromaster to Bayverse, then moving back to generation with an updated look, I think he's one of the best used character across different continuities. And I love the Siege toy. Great retrospective, I learned much about his debut as a Micromaster, I wasn't aware of that. Thanks for the great Retrospective.
Barricade really cemented himself as a legacy character. From a micromaster who was probably never meant to hold any significance, to a bad cop who always peaces out before the final battle and can never seem to die, and no doubt probably getting that sweet repaint treatment when a Prowl figure is released in the future. I love this guy! I also found it so interesting that ever since the Bay movies, Barricade has since been intertwined with Prowl. Whether trough toy retools or storytelling, I always found myself suckered up to rivals/counterparts and Barricade and Prowl are no exception. Just imagine, one bad cop, willing to use brute force and take glee from abusing the power granted to him(to punish and enslave). One good cop, who abides to logic and reason, sworn for the safety for all n̶o̶t̶ ̶a̶l̶l̶ ̶c̶o̶n̶t̶i̶n̶u̶i̶t̶i̶e̶s̶ ̶o̶b̶v̶i̶o̶u̶s̶l̶y̶(to protect and serve).... Just a darn shame that we hardly get them to even interact with each other at all, but hey one can dream ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
I hope my talk about him in this video sparks a fire in Transformers writers of the future of exactly that. Prowl Vs Barricade would make an amazing rivalry.
I like that the Siege Trilogy gave us both Barricades, cleverly giving the Micromaster his former Dreamwave name. 15 years this very week since I first saw Barricade in the live action movie.
Barricade has had one of the best glow ups & reimagining of any transformers characters over the last 15 years. I love the idea of a barricade being super loyal to Megatron & is constantly searching to destroy bumblebee.
i remember watching the 2007 live action movie and when barricade rolled up the first thing my father noticed was "to punish and enslave" he pointed it out to me. one of my best memories i currently have with my dad (hes still around dont worry) but he was an RCMP officer back when he was my age
Barricade and Blackout are really great examples of characters that weren't G1 cartoon characters that made their own spot in the hearts and minds of fans.
Personally I love the idea of a Decepticon cop! Barricade is a great example of corruption in law enforcement, so if he becomes Prowl's new rival I can see a storyline that shows how far the pair have split since their first days working together. If one did triumph over the other, it would probably be a bittersweet victory for the reader and the characters.
The one character Bay did right. I really like the 2007 movie’s theme that the Deceptions use military vehicle alt modes, while the Autobots are civilian vehicles. Robots in Disguise, but with two opposing goals.
In the first Transformers live action movie Barricade was downright terrifying. I fell in love with the character then and there. Great video. I love your lore content.
I specially like his role in the Transformers Game Decepticon Edition for Nintendo DS, he is the player character's mentor, teaching him how was is to be a Decepticon.
I didn't know Barricade was apart of a team way back when. I mainly learned about Barricade from the 07 and WFC/FOC. He's one of my favorite Decepticons. Well done Rodimus. Keep up the great work.
I wasn't expecting to enjoy his story from the bayverse movies, but I kind of like his "Unstoppable force" theme with him having off-screen adventures even after getting broken up on screen. This video also highlights how well the series' multi-universe aproach works. Artists and writers are constantly getting ideas from others and putting unique spins on them. Even if you don't like a character, or you like the concept but not the execution, or the character is cool but your not into that continuity's overarching story, there's often a solid chance you just have to wait for a different take on the character. One that will either re-imagine that character, fully realize thier pre-existing potential or just have a similar take, but in an overall story that you enjoy more. A very well delivered and formated video with great delivery!
1:31 had those back in 1990. I remember the blue and yellow yellow. The red and purple ones I gave to a far away cousin from another country. Like kids exchange toys to remember each other. Perhaps some German boy, now man, remembers this somehow and thinks back of his holiday in Holland or so...
Out of all the things to come out of the Bayverse ( Some good, others.....), Barricade being a bad cop is actually one of the best. I think it just the idea of a Decepticon disguise as a cop seem more fitting and interesting to explore for a number of reason. Like I would love to see Barricade be a rival to Prowl. I even made my own canon on their rivalry. In my head canon, Prowl and Barricade were once cops on Cybertron to enforce law and order upon the planet itself. Although both believed in the same ideal, that being bringing justice, both enact it in different ways, with Barricade using justice in the most aggressive and merciless way as possible. This cause the both of them to depart ways from their different viewpoints, leading them to join the two faction, the Autobots and the Decepticons.
This is pretty solid case for minimasters to have an new animated short series. The live action version of Barricade looks great in vehicle mode. I loved this excellent character deep dive.
I never got into the micromasters and never knew he was originally from there. I thought he started in the 2007 movie. Great work man on the retrospect.
Barracade's story on Dreamwave was great! Still the new one is much cooler and iconic. I always wanted to see an animated fight between G1 Prowl, and Bayverse Barricade!
Agreed, I was kinda bummed we never got to see them fight each other in the WFC trilogy. I thought for sure we would see them battle when I first realized they were both in it. But maybe the writers thought that was too predictable.
easily one of, if not, the best part(s) of the movie(s) and characters, especially if future stories were to finally give us a proper rivalry between Prowl and Barricade, given the obvious inspiration the Autobot had for the Decepticon bad cop also, how is it that TLK Barricade translates to G1 easily, given his Earth Wars and Evergreen design, but his 2007/DOTM design hasn't translated for G1 as much? (despite that one image with him fighting Prowl showing how well his first Movie form works in G1)

Barricade was an awesome character as a Decepticon Bad Cop. My favorite Barricade is the WFC Siege version love the G1 inspire design. Awesome Retrospective of the Decepticon Bad Cop.😁😁👍👍👍
Since I dropped out of the Bayverse after the second film (but rejoined for the fifth), I had little knowledge of Barricade's exploits, though I knew he was quite popular as a Decepticon cop. (Huh. Isn't that a contradiction in terms??!) As I've said too many times before, I was disappointed that the police car in the first movie DIDN'T turn out to be my main bot, Prowl. (Even more so now that Rodimus informed me that Prowl was originally considered!) But I applaud Barricade's organic ascension from "lowly" Micromaster to fully-fledged film, TV, and video game star. And yes, the good cop/bad cop thing he's got going with Prowl is a great idea. It certainly smooths over the moral dubiousness that IDW had Prowl engaging in, as an officer like Barricade should be the dirty one, bending and breaking Cybetronian (and other) laws for his or the Decepticon's gain.
Barricade became my favorite Decepticon since his introduction in 2007 movie. I was dissapointed that he didn't appears in Bumbleebe Movie, it would be a perfect beginning for their rivalry. He even have some toys in the Bee movie toy line. A wasted oportunity.
barricade is possibly the most significative bot to came out of the bay films; the unique design, the angular-yet-it-makes-sense form, unlike all other decepticons on-schreen, and the full on "capable veteran" persona from ALL of the tie in games made him one of the better bot to came of the whole thing (the other, arguably, being the fallen) I wouldn't call the second form from the film "upgraded". the guy looks like he had eaten too many berillium bagels between the films evergreen barricade doesn't really convince me. I like the color, but the Siege version is better over all other fields. earthrise is also nice looking from being destined to perfect anonimity as all of the micromaster, to one of the most solid secondary charather, everyone loves that barricade is here to stay
I still remember the time I got the first movie transformers toy of barricade, it was hard to transform but I loved it. Still have it. Barricade will always be a bad cop in my book and a great but unappreciated character
I have the Transformers Earthrise version of Baracade, who looks like Smokescreen. He is Prowl's evil Decepticon counterpart. A rogue cop in the movies. He wasn't seen in the second movie.
I can believe what I'm going to say, but the movie version became an iconic character! I really liked Barricade since the first time I saw him in the first movie, altough I would prefer a less prowlish (?) design for him. Maybe the aligned iteration.
I have my own little fanon that before the war broke out on Cybertron, Prowl and Barricade both belonged to the Cybertronian Police Force, that also including Groove, Streeetwise and Stakeout. Prowl has the IDW personality but is a bit of a good cop while Barricade is the typical bad cop kinda guy....plus a bit corrupted, too. But when Megatron rose to power after the massacre of the Senators and death of the previous Prime: Sentinel Prime, he began gathering his followers for a future Cybertron under his rule - a Decepticon rule. Barricade alongside a couple of other Cybertronian officers stood by his ideals while Prowl, Stakeout, Groove and Streetwise, alongside a few other officers, did not and took their side with the Autobots side at that point. Tension broke out that led to a battle between the Decepticon sympathizer cops against Autobot sympathizer cops.
@@SwedishSeacon imagine strongarm is the muscle and take the form of a survivor R, Case is the commander in Chief officer, Autotrooper is the Police swat type of person. I don't know where to place siren
Barricade was originally meant to be killed in revenge of the fallen but Hasbro didn't wanted it so they replaced him with sideways instead even though sideways design was meant to be barricade.
Loved Barricade in the first Bayverse live action movie. A bad cop character was a brilliant move to give Sam and Bee a antagoniat for the first half of the film. The Saleen Mustang was partly why I bought a black Mustang myself. I also liked Keith David's more nuanced voice acting work for Barricade in the video game adaptation, and the character's portrayal in War For Cyberton. My favorite design for Barricade is his Aligned continuity design. I wish that Barricade had showed up in the third season of the Transformers Prime television series alongside Prowl, instead we got Smokescreen and that whole Beast Hunters business with the Predacons.
I think it's nice that for all the shit the movies get we still liked a few of its additions enough to accept them into the wider mythos. I think it shows progress since I can't imagine the 2012 fanbase being ok with a G1 style version. The movie cons were mostly incomprehensible but Barricade (and I'm pretty sure blackout) hit pretty good.
I was originally annoyed that they made a Decepticon a police car, but then I pulled off my rose colored glasses and looked at the real world and realized it was a perfect fit. Now Prowl seems out of place to me.
Honestly it's why we need a Prowl Vs Barricade rivalry nowadays to show that we do have ones who truly stand for justice despite what the image made from those who pervert their purpose.
Always liked Barricade the best out the movie Transformers. Kind of the main reason really I liked the first movie thinking the movies might turn out, well, better than they did. Bay clearly had little to no respect for the series which becomes very clear by Revenge. I think half of what makes the Transformers so memorable, the show among other things, is the dialog and in the case of the movies or the show the voice acting namely and Barricade had that while the other characters ended up sorely lacking. Say what you will about the dialog he has itself or how well it's aged but the fact that he had dialog at all in the first movie where aside from Megatron the Decepticons had few to no actual lines makes his actually minimal role fairly memorable especially for a newcomer. Aside from the murmering 'alien' language they spoke to each other for no actual reason. I mean I never thought about it before but why would some of them speak it sometimes then switch to what would to them be the 'alien' language mostly inexplicably unless they were talking to humans? Oh wait that's right. Most of them never spoke at all out loud. Except Starscream who absolutely did this for some reason though.
I have to admit I love the bad cop Barricade. I've got a few movie figures that lovingly represent that Saleen. I love how they upgraded this character from barely seen/used to prominent. Good job on that one.
Great retrospective. Barricade has such an interesting history and how his character evolved over the years. I’m a fan of him being sort of a reverse version of prowl type character. The color scheme is cool too!
I am currently doing a redeco of my Masterpiece Smokescreen, into a custom G-1 Barricade. (Don't worry folks, it's a KO, I would never alter an "official" MP! 😂) This video has been fantastic at giving me plenty of pics for the paint, and how it should be applied, like gloss or matte, etc. so far its just been a slow "preperation," phase, but I'm finally ready to start painting. Wish me luck! We all deserve a G-1 inspired Barricade! 😂😂
Essentially A reverse Brian O'Connor, Barricade is one of the best things about the bayverse, mainly because of the comics. But having a Saleen mustang as a vehicle mode, I don't think he ever lost his hotrodder instinct. Lol Great Video!
There is something really intriguing about a "bad cop" character like barricade that doubles as what could be described as a "Shock-Trooper". I mean, hey, he certainly shocked Sam in the first film. I mean, With the Bayverse films being my introduction to the brand, it certainly left an impression on me, as I was a bit of a sucker for edginess like that (I still am though) and playing as barricade on the first game was......fun (He says as he maniacally laughs and destroys blocks of cities) Side note: It still surprises me that the voice actor behind Spawn was the guy who voiced him, and now that I see it, I can't unsee it. If anything, Barricade has been better since then as I think the name didn't fit with something like a drag racer, and more along the lines of an armored truck. As a bad cop though, I argue that it is actually a much better name placement because Police can actually do this: They cordon off the streets with barricades to disallow passers by from interfering with the crimes in progress. Though I imagine he is just as likely to destroy them as he is to make them
Well since it was the first version of the character to actually _have_ character in animation, it makes sense that it would be the most popular version. The same can be said for Blackout to a lesser extent. Interestingly both were Micromasters? It would be cool if in future series Runner became his partner instead of Frenzy since he is Soundwave's minion.
shame barricade was not in the g1 cartoon, he would be great rival to prowl, while prowl doe whole serve and protect, barricade would represent the brutality of the police
It would have been great to see. Not only would it have given a bigger spotlight on Prowl, but it would have given him a reason to fight off against a bad cop.
I found a Transformers stickers book at the dollar tree. I love the evergreen artwork, but for the longest I couldn't figure out who this one decepticon was. Thanks to video, I now know that he's Barricade.
people were hoping prowl appeared in rotf, dotm, aoe, tlk, the bumblebee movie but he didn't (prowl did appear in the aoe toyline and he was gonna appear in tf5), people are hoping he appears in rotb and its sequels, along with hoping he appears in tlk sequel, and the anguel manuel soto movie in tlk sequel prowl kills barricade
This was an Incredible Masterpiece for Barricade. My Ranking for Barricade from The Transformers Franchise 1: Transformers Film Series (Jess Harnell and Frank Welker) 2: Transformers The Aligned Continuity (Steve Blum) 3: Transformers War For Cybertron Trilogy (Alexander Dilallo) 4: Transformers Energon Bruticus Maximus (Trevor Devall)
Cop Barricade is easily one of my favorite new characters to made within the last 15 years. And I think it’d be funny if they made G1 Barricade like his partner (like a deputy).
I hope barricade returns again in transformers cartoon once more along side blackout as main villains like the 2007 film. Especially want to see his and bumblebee rivalry expanded upon more since I love these two rivalry for each other. (Way more than him and prowl)
I do hope we get a toy of evergreen barricade. I have no problem with siege's take as it fits the G1 aesthetic of the line. But thr Evergreen design just looks more interesting as it harkens back to the last knight design.
I love how he kept surviving because they never filmed him dying.

I would include Autotrooper, siren, chase and strong arm in that police units
@@majesticgothitelle1802 Ooooh yeah Strongarm would also make a nice addition in there
@@SwedishSeacon imagine strongarm is the muscle and take the form of a survivor R, Case is the commander in Chief officer, Autotrooper is the Police swat type of person.
A bot that was introduced to me in my childhood because of the 2007 movie barricade is cool con one of my favorites
I did not like him at first and now I’m starting like this guy
i would like prowl and barricade be new rivals
I remember encounterin Barricade from the first Michael Bay movie.
Honestly it's why we need a Prowl Vs Barricade rivalry nowadays to show that we do have ones who truly stand for justice despite what the image made from those who pervert their purpose.
barricade was gonna appear in the bumblebee movie but he was cut, however he was in the bumblebee movie toyline
Blackout needs this treatment
Thank you so much Rodimus for making a retrospective on my favourite bayformers character Barricade.
This bad cop Barricade is totally the toughest Decepticon to hunt down Sam J. Mcwicky.
Love this dude and hope to see him and more transformers media soon.
Great video as always sir
We need a Masterpiece G1 Barricade in the works.
Commenting, liking, and watching every video!
Great retrospective
The sole Decepticon survivor.
My favorite version is the cop version because I think he would be the opponent of Prowl. What do you think?
Id love to see Prowl Vs Barricade more.
@@RodimusPrimal Me too! Especially in a Transformers fan series such as my own.
I have the complete series from Dreamwave and actually keep it always accessible!
Having a fight between Barricade and Prowl would be interesting to see in this day age given how police are viewed these days in the public media.
I love the the tlk version of barricade
Barricade Retrospective - From Street Racer to Decepticon Cop
Good Cop Bad Cop time good job folks
I like the Prowl recolor more than the unique design for cop Prowl
Evil recolors are just cool to me
I love how the WFC trilogy continued the tradition of Barricade always disappearing in the final battle.
Trans theories did a whole video on Barricade timeline
All hail megatron Made him one of my favourite transformers ever
Wow, that proposed Animated version of Barricade definitely looks like someone who dispenses.. *discipline*.
Lol
Great Video!
There is something really intriguing about a "bad cop" character like barricade that doubles as what could be described as a "Shock-Trooper". I mean, hey, he certainly shocked Sam in the first film.
I mean, With the Bayverse films being my introduction to the brand, it certainly left an impression on me, as I was a bit of a sucker for edginess like that (I still am though) and playing as barricade on the first game was......fun
(He says as he maniacally laughs and destroys blocks of cities)
Side note: It still surprises me that the voice actor behind Spawn was the guy who voiced him, and now that I see it, I can't unsee it.
Though I imagine he is just as likely to destroy them as he is to make them
My favorite of his videos
Oh! By the way. They're making Transformers in the Micro Machines toyline just now!!!
Gotta be honest, when I think about a police Transformer, Chase from Rescue Bots comes to mind before Prowl or Streetwise 🤷🏾♂️
In my version of G1 (if it took place in 2017 instead of 1984) smokescreen prowl bluestreak and barricade would turn into Dodge challengers
I like that
shame barricade was not in the g1 cartoon, he would be great rival to prowl, while prowl doe whole serve and protect, barricade would represent the brutality of the police
Fun fact: the VA of barricade in the 2007 video game: Keith David’s has also voiced the witch doctor in princess and the frog and husker in hh
try to do a Retrospective on Blackout
people were hoping prowl appeared in rotf, dotm, aoe, tlk, the bumblebee movie but he didn't (prowl did appear in the aoe toyline and he was gonna appear in tf5), people are hoping he appears in rotb and its sequels, along with hoping he appears in tlk sequel, and the anguel manuel soto movie
in tlk sequel prowl kills barricade
I was really looking forward to him appearing in the Netflix series. I wish that they had done more with him in that series.
Didn’t even know about his G1 origins until you posted the picture on twitter with his micro master. Great retrospective as always 👍🏾
I like Barricade.
This was an Incredible Masterpiece for Barricade.
My Ranking for Barricade from The Transformers Franchise
1: Transformers Film Series (Jess Harnell and Frank Welker)
2: Transformers The Aligned Continuity (Steve Blum)
3: Transformers War For Cybertron Trilogy (Alexander Dilallo)
4: Transformers Energon Bruticus Maximus (Trevor Devall)
A Ricky Bobby version of Barricade in Transformers Animated was such a missed opportunity. >_
if barricade did appear in transformers cyberverse he would be killed by arcee
