Poor Hound. From being one of the most prominent buddies of Spike Witwicky, to being a valuable asset to the Autobot team in tricking the Decepticons, to being overshadowed by his 1984 Autobot peers. This criminally underrated Autobot truly deserves much more attention.
I gotta admit John Goodman made Live Action Houd (who really should have been named Bulkhead) a blast to just watch the scenes he is in as a great treat, but still Hound is better as a scout than a full fledged warrior.
Hound is very under rated. He is one of my favorite Transformers of all time and it's a shame how they kept switching up his personality as the years went by.

I wouldn’t mind seeing Hound replace Bumblebee on Prime’s team in a future series, I’m generally tired of Hasbro trying to make Bumblebee the new face of the franchise when he works better as the kid brother of the autobots instead. It would just be nice to see some other OG autobots get some love.

In one of the season 3 episodes, I forgot which one it was, somewhere around episodes 9-12, but Swindle was accidentally colored as Hound in vehicle mode if that counts 🤷🏻😂
Except the season 3 episode "Dark Awakening" completely contradicts the Movie: Daniel reads off some names of the Autobots who were supposed to have been killed in the Great War (aka the events of the Movie), and Hound was one of those names. Hound showing up in The★Headmasters - much like Prowl and the oddball first death of Optimus Prime - was largely Toei's fault: remember, they didn't get The Transformers: The Movie for Japanese release until 1989. Then again, I don't think that even the writers have any idea what would've really happened to Hound during the Movie. 🤔🤨🧐🤷🏽♂️ And at almost 40 years later (2024 is the franchise's 40th anniversary, but 2026 is the 86 Movie's 40th), they *definitely* wouldn't know anymore.
The G1 Hound has become underrated, and I miss that version in new portrayals. Funny how I forgot he was in the WFC Netflix series, my memory of the show thought it was Ironhide saying some of the dialogue given to Hound. Can’t wait for the SS86 Hound figure, because the G.I. Joe crossover figure should’ve been Hound, and not Bumblebee. I also remember thinking Hound from AOE and TLK was going to be named Kup when I first saw the Oshkosh vehicle. And given Walter was a Vietnam veteran, it would’ve made sense if he was Kup instead.
Yeah that would have made a LOT more sense for Movie Hound being called Kup. I do like him as Bulkhead though. I hope we get a transforming VAMP for a GI Joe crossover with Hound too and yeah G1 Hound is my go to for the character.
Hound was my favorite not named Optimus prime as a kid growing up with the cartoon. He deserves all the love fans have for him and I wish his earth loving self would get more recognition in the movie universe
Hound punting Rumble will never stop being funny omg. Gosh Hound is one of my favorite underrated characters in the g1 series. What's there not to love from him💕. His love for Earth fauna and terrain, his cool ability with holograms, his calming voice the late Ken Samson preformed. It gave me a lot of Bob Ross vibes for some reason lol and for that I just love him even more! I really wish we could revisit some the of the underrated g1 characters that weren't given the spotlight in future TF media. His love for Earth(and desire to be human) could definitely be a great contrast to the Autobots that want nothing more than to go back to Cybertron. As for his live action version I love him too. I honestly can't hate any character if they're voiced John Goodman. I can't wait to get his siege figure someday.
Dreamwave's More Than Meets The Eye bio called Hound "one of the Ark's more professional soldiers," which is my favourite description of him. And it was clear he was destined for great(er) things as seen in the Flint Dille co-written series AUTOCRACY, where he was promoted to of one Optimus' top lieutenants alongside Prowl, Ironhide, Bumblebee, and Silverbolt (though seemingly at the expense of an absent Jazz?). Still, I'll forever wonder if Hound's name would be household by this point had the TF powers-that-be had continued his kid-friendly role that was almost established in the original three-part G1 series. Fortunately for Bumblebee, Hound's not the fuel-thirsty revenge type!!!

Hound is a great character, and it can certainly be argued that he's been underrated since the G1 cartoon. I really like the SEIGE mold and look forward to seeing the proper Earth mode when it finally comes out. Sad story: I brought my G1 hound toy along with me on a Cub Scouts camping trip, and somehow inadvertently lost his head. It was never recovered and so my original toy is Headless Hound. For those that don't know, the G1 figures head was on a post not a ball joint and was moved up into position from the hood during transformation. It could very easily be removed by lifting upward with too much force. Mine must have come dislodged at some point and I didn't realize it. Rather ironically, I still have both the jeeps jerry can and turret which are on even smaller posts.
G1 Hound is my fave Autobot. Who loves nature and genius of holograms to trick Destrons/Decepticons. Friends with Spike was my nostalgic days as a kid. I had toy cherished, while my twin older sister had fave Optimus Prime though.

The original Arrival From Cybertron 3 parter that introduced the Transformers has always been a personal favourite, and Hound was one of the more prominent bots in it. As such i've always liked Hound. I couldn't agree more that he's an underrated character they could do more with. That is as long as they use the original as the template rather than the bayverse version.

Hound was pretty rad and definitely underrated helping The Autobots through many adventures. I had read a storyline years ago before, where he was supposed to be arch nemesis of Decepticon Blitzwing, who also used Holograms.
RP, I wish you had continued with that Hound gag for the entire episode. Maybe bringing in a reference to Elvis Presley's "You Ain't Nothing But A Hound Dog" for good measure. He was pretty much a background character in the pages of TFUK as well. The only notable thing I remember about Hound was that he got his butt handed to him by a time travelling Cyclonus in the epic story Target: 2006.
I suspect though of course has never been confirmed, that a military vehicle was deemed inappropriate for a kid appeal character after the pilot. Things would be very different if that Bee hadn't replaced him. A shame we never got that Spychanger.
Forgot how much of an mvp hound was back in the day. That being said I really like movie hound but he came off as an Ironhide replacement to me so maybe armorhide or roadbuster would've been better names for him. Hound should stay true to himself and just give the characters with radical differences a different name. Always down for more characters
Underrated hell yeah. My favorite version of hound is Gen 1, obviously and no surprise. And yes I think the live action version should be called bulkhead. Please bring him back as he was in generation 1.
If I were directing a new Transformers series, the first thing I’d do is to give lesser-known autobots a chance in the spotlight like Hound, Beachcomber, Trailbreaker, Springer, Jazz, etc. just to name a few
I always felt like a team of Hound, Jazz, Trailbreaker, and Skids would be great fun just roaming around and seeing what sort of shenanigans they get into.
Hound will always be "Master Chief before it was cool." Hound is a bot definitely deserving FAR more representation, a classic and loyal autobot who doesn't quite get his amazing generation one personality done right, ( No hate to the John Goodman version of course.) But it's well over due to get his original personality back up and running, but it'll be a tough act to recreate the welcoming yet subtle militaristic voice his original voice actor gave us.
One of my all time favorites. I had a Jeep because of him. He looked his best in MTMTE part 3 when he was fighting Rumble underwater and he dropped a shield over his face to go under the water

Isn't Hound the first Transformers toy to have a realistic interior, due to him not having a roof in alt mode? It's amazing that we're getting two 86 movie based figures of him so close together, even if they're exclusive to different stores. Funny that we're getting a SS86 before getting a standard Studio Series figure.
I have always loved Hound. After Optimus, he is my favorite Autobot. I really wanted him to win the fan vote for the next prime for the Power of the Primes line. I would love to see what they would have come up with for his powered up mode
Hound was one of my absolute favourites as a kid, even though I didn't get to own the G1 figure until adulthood, his major role in the first three episodes left a lasting impression on me. A Great Retrospective Rodimus, one of the best, Happy Holidays to you and your family.

I have always loved Hound. As a kid I loved his Universe 2.0 toy. (it actually still holds up really well.) Definitely excited to get his buzzworthy figure

Thank you for finally creating this video. I’ve been waiting a long time for your retrospective on Hound, my favorite Transformer back when I was 8 years old in 1984 and still is now. Even to this day, my favorite toy in my collection is my deluxe class hound from the Asia exclusive Specialist: Autobots 3-pack featuring the metallic green paint. Although the Alt mode is not the original jeep design, I still love the look of it and the metallic green paint is awesome. The engineering and sculpt is really excellent as well. Thanks for mentioning that it is a modified Jeep Hurricane. I never knew that. I love all your videos but this one is special for me. Happy New Year!

Hound is definitely important in G1 and the fact he can make Holograms is just fantastic! While his appearance in the War for Cybertron Netflix series was surprising, it’s a shame he didn’t have his Hologram features to make him stand out. But overall a fantastic character in G1 and one of my favorites in the show!

I was looking forward to this retrospective. hound is my favorite autobot and I think his ability to make holograms is very cool. I agree there's a lot hound hasn't been in. but at least he's been in more then some others I can think of. I think the wfc version of hound would've been better if. they gave him his ability to make holograms and pick up electronic signals and stuff. and yes the movie hound does kinda remind me of bulkhead
I mean, the Bralwestator incident revealef that Bay gave characters names that he thought sounded cooler in a heartbeat. Brawl was renamed to Devestator. Potentially, Trailbreaker was renamed to Ironhide. And Bulkhead could've been renamed to Hound for all we know.
I always considered the Autobot hierarchy as Prime, then Prowl, Jazz as the Special Ops Coordinator, Ironhide as Security Head, and Hound as Field Commander.
Though I find Bayverse Hound hilarious, he definitely did major damage to Hound as a character. He's literally the antithesis to what Hound SHOULD BE. I'd love G1 Hound to appear in a show like Earthspark as his personality would fit so well with feel of the show.
Would love to see a little story bringing up Hounds love of earth, maybe star Beachcomber alongside him. Feel like they could talk for hours on sight seeing, haha.
6:23 Hound was seen to still be functional at the end of the issue even asking Prime on the second to last page "Optimus -- why do you hesitate". He has a few good scenes in Target: 2006, he is nearly killed by Cyclonus, is the first present day Autobot to be told of Cyclonus' origin and Unicron's name.

Hound was pretty rad and definitely underrated helping The Autobots through many adventures.
I had read a storyline years ago before, where he was supposed to be arch nemesis of Decepticon Blitzwing, who also used Holograms.
It made me mad as a kid that G1 Hound’s arms were so short. I’m looking forward to the Buzzworthy update, though.

RP, I wish you had continued with that Hound gag for the entire episode. Maybe bringing in a reference to Elvis Presley's "You Ain't Nothing But A Hound Dog" for good measure. He was pretty much a background character in the pages of TFUK as well. The only notable thing I remember about Hound was that he got his butt handed to him by a time travelling Cyclonus in the epic story Target: 2006.

I suspect though of course has never been confirmed, that a military vehicle was deemed inappropriate for a kid appeal character after the pilot. Things would be very different if that Bee hadn't replaced him.

Forgot how much of an mvp hound was back in the day. That being said I really like movie hound but he came off as an Ironhide replacement to me so maybe armorhide or roadbuster would've been better names for him.
Hound should stay true to himself and just give the characters with radical differences a different name. Always down for more characters
Underrated hell yeah. My favorite version of hound is Gen 1, obviously and no surprise. And yes I think the live action version should be called bulkhead. Please bring him back as he was in generation 1.

If I were directing a new Transformers series, the first thing I’d do is to give lesser-known autobots a chance in the spotlight like Hound, Beachcomber, Trailbreaker, Springer, Jazz, etc. just to name a few
I actually like his take on 2007 Bayverse PSP game as his head literally looks like a, well, hound.
I always felt like a team of Hound, Jazz, Trailbreaker, and Skids would be great fun just roaming around and seeing what sort of shenanigans they get into.
Hound will always be "Master Chief before it was cool." Hound is a bot definitely deserving FAR more representation, a classic and loyal autobot who doesn't quite get his amazing generation one personality done right, ( No hate to the John Goodman version of course.) But it's well over due to get his original personality back up and running, but it'll be a tough act to recreate the welcoming yet subtle militaristic voice his original voice actor gave us.
Nice Retrospective, Hound deserves more air time.
One of my all time favorites. I had a Jeep because of him. He looked his best in MTMTE part 3 when he was fighting Rumble underwater and he dropped a shield over his face to go under the water
Yeah Hound is awesome. Cool that you got a Jeep. Small correction, it was Part 2 that he fought Rumble underwater and part 3 that he fought Rumble outside the Decepticon base.

Isn't Hound the first Transformers toy to have a realistic interior, due to him not having a roof in alt mode? It's amazing that we're getting two 86 movie based figures of him so close together, even if they're exclusive to different stores. Funny that we're getting a SS86 before getting a standard Studio Series figure.
I have always loved Hound. After Optimus, he is my favorite Autobot. I really wanted him to win the fan vote for the next prime for the Power of the Primes line. I would love to see what they would have come up with for his powered up mode

Hound was one of my absolute favourites as a kid, even though I didn't get to own the G1 figure until adulthood, his major role in the first three episodes left a lasting impression on me. A Great Retrospective Rodimus, one of the best, Happy Holidays to you and your family.

I have always loved Hound. As a kid I loved his Universe 2.0 toy. (it actually still holds up really well.)

Thank you for finally creating this video. I’ve been waiting a long time for your retrospective on Hound, my favorite Transformer back when I was 8 years old in 1984 and still is now. Even to this day, my favorite toy in my collection is my deluxe class hound from the Asia exclusive Specialist: Autobots 3-pack featuring the metallic green paint. Although the Alt mode is not the original jeep design, I still love the look of it and the metallic green paint is awesome. The engineering and sculpt is really excellent as well. Thanks for mentioning that it is a modified Jeep Hurricane. I never knew that. I love all your videos but this one is special for me. Happy New Year!

Hound is definitely important in G1 and the fact he can make Holograms is just fantastic! While his appearance in the War for Cybertron Netflix series was surprising, it’s a shame he didn’t have his Hologram features to make him stand out. But overall a fantastic character in G1 and one of my favorites in the show!

Hound should have instantly been part of season 3! Ken Samson gave him a lot of heart and hate that his toy got discontinued.
I was looking forward to this retrospective. hound is my favorite autobot and I think his ability to make holograms is very cool. I agree there's a lot hound hasn't been in. but at least he's been in more then some others I can think of. I think the wfc version of hound would've been better if. they gave him his ability to make holograms and pick up electronic signals and stuff. and yes the movie hound does kinda remind me of bulkhead
I think its quite ironic Hound went from a scout to the Autobots muscle in the movies.
I wouldn't say Hound is underrated Hound is really half & half ( He appear on Season 1 & 2 on the Transformers episodes half of the time ).

I mean, the Bralwestator incident revealef that Bay gave characters names that he thought sounded cooler in a heartbeat.
Brawl was renamed to Devestator.
Potentially, Trailbreaker was renamed to Ironhide.
And Bulkhead could've been renamed to Hound for all we know.

Hound is pretty cool at battling and uses his holagrams to share with Mirage the Autobot spy.
I always considered the Autobot hierarchy as Prime, then Prowl, Jazz as the Special Ops Coordinator, Ironhide as Security Head, and Hound as Field Commander.
My very first ever Transformer that I got back in 1984 for my birthday.
Though I find Bayverse Hound hilarious, he definitely did major damage to Hound as a character. He's literally the antithesis to what Hound SHOULD BE.
I'd love G1 Hound to appear in a show like Earthspark as his personality would fit so well with feel of the show.
I am of the opinion that Bayformers Hound is really Bulkhead but is called Hound because the films could care less about the history of a character.

6:23 Hound was seen to still be functional at the end of the issue even asking Prime on the second to last page "Optimus -- why do you hesitate". He has a few good scenes in Target: 2006, he is nearly killed by Cyclonus, is the first present day Autobot to be told of Cyclonus' origin and Unicron's name.
With the new Transformers/ GI Joe vehicles being made in the 3 3/4 line, it would be great to see a Hound Vamp Mark 1.

Yeah he is a underrated character, and I didn’t mind the version in the Michael bay transformers movies either.
