Hm..... You have a point there. There DOES seem to rarely be any sense of uniformity with the namesake, outside of more than one of them being a servant of Unicron.
@@BladeCrossEXE Probably unintentional but most if not all them are leaders of a sort, G1 Scourge lead the sweeps, R.I.D Scourge was in Charge of the Decepticon Commandos, Cybertron Scourge was the leader of Jungle Planet, & Rise of the Beasts Scourge lead the Terrorcons. All versions of Scourge are also villains, but that goes without saying

The thing is I like both the RiD and Cybertron characters. But Scourge they are NOT. Black Convoy and Flame Convoy should be localized as Nemesis Prime and Flame Prime.
@@bitetheasp fun fact, after R.I.D called Black Convoy, Scourge in the dub, Japan went ahead and decided to call the next evil Optimus Prime, Scourge in Armada/Micron Legends, only for the English Dub team to come up with the name Nemesis Prime. I would imagine the Japanese team were a bit frustrated and confused about that decision.
Scourge always got overshadowed by Cyclonus, so it's nice seeing him in the limelight as the main villain for once.

ROTB Scourge felt like the most intimidating version of the character, collecting of those faction symbols on his shoulder shows this.

My favorite scourge is the Rise of the Beasts because is a combination of the classic g1 and the 2001 Robots in Disguise. Peter Dinkalage did a great job voicing scourge. He’s a herald of Unicron and great at tracking down enemies.
Scourge and his Sweeps were more often shot by Galvatron than any Autobot vs Decepticon conflict.
Scourge was an absolute beast in ROTB and a pure evil villain, I’m glad to have his Studio Series figure along with Battletrap and Nightbird.

Scourge and the Sweeps are like Wreck-Gar and the Junkions or maybe all the Seekers. The problem is that Scourge looks exactly like his troops. They should have made him more distinct. I really liked the G1 version as a kid because of his beard. He looked like an old veteran which I thought was pretty cool. Oddly he was one of the youngest Decepticons so it didn’t really make sense.
The ROTB version completely reinvented the character for me. He’s the one I now hold as template to all others going forward.
Yay Scourge! While I would’ve preferred his G1 style self in Knightverse, it was cool how he was in Rise of the Beasts.
Rise of the beasts Scourge was the combination of his previous counterparts. He is hearld of Unicron just like his G1 self, has an alt mode of a monstrous truck just like his 2001 RID counterpart and is from a colony world like his Cybertron version. The movie makers really made Scourge a dangerous villain in the film.
I like pronouncing it as Sc”or”ge, instead of scourge because the way Orson Welles says it in the 1986 movie is just one of those things that sticks with you. at least for me.

While the typical WORD is pronounced "Skurrj", I think when talking about the G1 character, that pronunciation is valid. Kinda like how the Star Wars character Savage Opress' name is pronounced "Sah-vahj", instead of "Sav-aj".

Funny story, I was resentful of Scourge (didn't exactly "hate" him but rather resented him for replacing Thundercracker - it's complicated) and the Sweeps until I saw TFTM, since I saw Season 3 & 4 first. I did not see TFTM until 1989 when it was broadcast in 5 parts with Tommy and Powermaster ("Puppetmaster") Prime on TV. Then Scourge and the Sweeps started to grow on me. They acted a lot different in the movie than in the cartoon, so I think that made a difference. But then when I thought about it I understood the behavior change - which occurred after Galvatron abandoned that one Sweep near Jupiter. It was then that the Sweeps knew that it was every mech for himself, literally, and that Galvatron would not come to their rescue if they were in trouble, despite their slavish loyalty, so thus their new "cowardly" behavior.

I have to say it, but RID scourge is still my favorite, He was in charge of a combiner team (Ruination) aka gold bruticus, Which he made them pretend to be good and pick up trash, control, traffic, etc. just to get a one up on the good guys and he wanted to control a titan which unfortunately did not work

I know it's a bit off-topic, but I always thought that Thundercracker becoming Scourge and Skywarp becoming Cyclonus made more sense. In the show, Skywarp was usually depicted as being the most loyal to Megatron of the Seekers, while Thundercracker was more of an opportunist, but not to the same degree as Starscream, and those personalities carried over when they were reformatted.

ROTB scourge should've had his g1 look. Imagine that g1 scourge design with that mad max truck element similar to DOTM Megatron, I wished ROTB Scourge had his g1 look but movie-fied. Because that deamon bat look would look perfect as a main TF movie villain

RID Scourge is my favorite version of the character. He's also my favorite evil Prime, and the most fleshed out in my opinion.

The original G1 version is the only one that matters to me. I’ve never liked any other versions.

Scourge, I feel, is one of a few names that I think is reasonable to re-use time and time again. This name can mean so many different things. Be it in reference to a plague of insects, especially of biblical proportions, a rampant virus, or even an invasion of an alien or cosmic force.
I feel that the ROTB version of scourge was the best considering he sounded so cold. So...devoid was he that he became a bounty hunter that Lockdown wishes he could be....Just probably the most callous villain to date.

Was lucky enough to get the last RID2K Scourge for Christmas, went with my mom to point out what I wanted. Wish they had rerelease the SS version alongside the windowless Hotrod so I could've got him too. I do have two sweeps though.

Completely unrelated, but in the new Rise of The Beasts movie, I see Battletrap as a kind of Sweep since he is one of Scourge’s henchmen. Yes I know Battletrap has his own G1 counterpart but seeing him similar to a Sweep from G1 feels like it fits>>>
Wrong!!! ROTB Scourge already has multiple Sweeps. The first 2, that reside within him, are Novakane & Freezer. The rest look like scorpions (a probable hint to Scorponok) even though most of them have 6 legs.

The introduction by Unicron and Teletraan files make Galvatron, Cyclones and Scourge out to be such bad asses. However when the third season rolled around, they were nothing but the Three Stooges of the Decepticons. 🤨

when i first heard his name I thought it was spelled “Skurge”
So personally I just kinda distinguish them in my head, G1 is “Scourge” with an “ORE” sound,
And RID is “Skurge” with an “URGE” sound if that makes sense
I actually have the Sweep action figure! I got it as a Christmas gift at my job (somebody found out that I like transformers.
Quick correction: Re-coloring Prime in this color scheme didn’t start with RiD Scourge/Black Convoy. It started with Black Lio Convoy. Folks seem to forget that a lot. We have Beast Wars II to thank for Nemesis Prime.

Yeah, you noted he “wasn’t the first dark clone of Optimus” but you went on to state “his popularity sparked a trend of recoloring Prime into a black, gray and teal color scheme.” If Scourge in RiD was named Nemesis Prime, this would make sense, but he’s not. Instead he’s just the second clone of Convoy in black, grey, and teal.
Beast Wars II sparked the trend.
It was still rid Scourge that made the recolor popular. Lio may have been first but he did not spark the popularity that Scourge did. So rodimus Primal is still correct and you're mistaken
This as to be my favorite retrospective so far i enjoyed the amout of information and history in this video also im hoping scourge can make a come back in animtion again but other then that great video I leave a like and i definitely had a fun time watching this video
I have always seen the original G1 version as the true Scourge. The other 2 had their own names already in Japan Black Convoy (Nemesis Prime) and Flame Convoy.

Huh. One of the few things IDW did right was to ignore TF:TM and make Scourge, Cyclonus, and Galvatron their own bots with nothing to do with previous 'Cons. That said, it was great to see original Deceps Megatron, Starscream, Skywarp, and Thundercracker reunite in "Ghost In The Machine"...sort of.
I fundamentally disagree. Their entire concepts as characters were meant to be upgraded versions of previous characters. Especially Galvatron. The whole time I read the Heart of Darkness and Chaos arc I could easily see that they were written with their G1 origins in mind, but the mandate of "cant be Unicron or previous characters." Not to mention that the art was... Yeah I don't care for the changes IDW made.
@@RodimusPrimal I gotcha, RP. But it's weird to me having Megatron, Skywarp, and Thundercracker co-existing with their future counterparts. Like having Optimus & Rodimus in the same space/time. Yes, I remember all six 'Cons co-existed in the (wonderful) U.K. stories, and it worked---but generally speaking, it feels like an unnecessary confusion to me. Keep one trio or the other, but keep the three pairs separate entities.
By the way, Rodimius, please don't think that I'm suddenly in love with everything IDW did. I'll ALWAYS believe they did a major disservice to TF!!! XD

It looks like Takara's probably never revisiting Transformers 2010, or even touching The★Headmasters, Chou-jin Masterforce, Victory, Zone, or Battlestars (and beyond), I'd be interested in seeing their take on Masterpiece versions of Cyclonus, Scourge, Sweep, G1 Galvatron, and especially Beast Wars Neo Galvatron. They deserve it!!
RID scourge was my favorite but I always found it funny how his strength was explained as
"scanned Optimus scanned a human scanned the oil in the truck"
like including that racer guy how the hell does scanning work in the RId universe?
A main villain is always great, but everyone also loves a good henchman by their side. Scourge fits that description perfectly. Can we have a video on Overlord next?

Never really cared about the character since Cyclonus totally overshadowed him in G1. But I saw his hovership form so many times as a kid that that's still the only true Scourge for me.
The only thing I never like about the original Scourge, was that he was reused for all the sweeps, I believe he should have look like the king of the sweeps
I'm glad there is at least some difference between the Sweeps and Scourge in the SS86 toyline. The darker blue does make him look like he's the leader

the G1 Scourge is a rebuild of Thundercracker after he was created by Unicron. and yes he is a decepticon leader.
[ Well ] No doubt that Scourge is indeed an effective Decepticon ( As long as he know his place around Galvatron & Cyclonus ). It's very plausible there's a bit of Thundercracker within Scourge but remember when Unicron gave Megatron & 5 other Decepticons a makeover he also reprogram them as well as gave them different personalities. [ Also ] I believe during season 3 of the Transformers ( G1 ) it should been 3 Sweeps including Scourge ( having 5 or 6 Sweeps in season 3 make anyone thinking that there's a bit of Insecticons within 2 of the Sweeps making copies of 1 another ).

I liked his design in ROTB but I found Peter Dinklage's investment in the role about as exciting and compelling as his voice work in Destiny, before it got scrapped and rerecorded with a different actor. XD
