This is a really tough subjective one. I love both of these figures for different reasons. However, since I’m a big fan of the cartoon. I have to give it to Takara for toon accuracy.
I’m keeping my Phoenix. I’ve only ever had three gripes with it - the lack of paint (would’ve waited for the “X” version had I known it was coming), the limited ankle rocker and the limited space for the faction symbol (I make my own for my third party figures with a Cricut machine). Otherwise, I LOVE the little gun-metal accents, the more “heroic” proportions, and ESPECIALLY the face sculpt. Phoenix presents / displays better IMO. To me, Phoenix looks like it was made to be displayed; Skyfire looks like it was made to be played with. I see your frustration with the Toon Aesthetic debate. It’s definitely not simply “Hyper-Toon” vs “Stylized”; there is a range dividing the two. You once coined the term “Cartoon-Realized” and I would offer “Cartoon-Enhanced” as another since that’s the pocket I prefer FT in. When I compare any Sunbow cartoon model side-by-side with the FT packaging art and then the figure I see a huge difference between (and prefer) FT “enhancing” the cartoon to a more mature, updated design while remaining faithful to the G1 model, over Takara’s “Hyper-Toon” aesthetic. Hoist & Huffer - two DOOFY-ASS characters that IDGAF about as a kid are now two of my fav’s thanks to Hitch & Rig. That said, I also prefer MP-47 over FT Willys. So yeah, I want toon - but better. Thirty-seven years better (THIRTY-SEVEN!?!). Props if you got the final reference. Love what you do, man. See ya on Patreon.
The only thing I didn’t like about the X version was the eyes. They didn’t use the same paint. They look better on the standard version. Also the metallic white paint used in the figure looks dirty compared to the original. That being said less worries about the X yellowing over time. I kept the original. The eyes sold it for me.
I still say the Newage is better than either, but until they upscale it, I’ll have to go with the Fanstoys for the Autobot shelf and Takara for the Decepticons ;)
Very interesting VS Bobby...Not trading FTs out for TT, but I have to give TT credit here for hitting 90% of what it was trying for. I will wait for a KO with better rachets and $150.
I'm switching out my Fans Toys Skyfire and going with Takara's. I agree Fans Toys looks more heroic, has better proportions, etc. But I tend to chase the toon look, even if it makes them look goofier. And here's why: one of the main reasons I collect Transformers (and not other robots that look much cooler) is that it lights up the nostalgia in by brain from loving these characters as a kid. So for example when I look at the Cang Toys Predacons, they are super cool looking, especially in animal mode. But I have no nostalgic connection to them so I'd rather go with Predacons that don't look as cool but light up those nostalgic feels. When I look at Takara's Skyfire, the nostalgia bulbs just light up so much more than when I look at the Fans Toys, even though I agree the Fans Toys' one looks cooler.
Somehow I fall in between the two. Certain figures I like with liberties taken and others not so much. Looks wise I like Takara here better. I need to ship my loot so I can have it in person. I get what you are saying though. Those Cang toys bots do nothing for me at all. Nice bots, just don’t hit home with me.

I didn't even bother with Fans Toys as he was way too expensive as I missed the pre-order. Now that Takara Tomy has a version, I'm not bothering as I love this hyper toon accurate version as he's the version I grew up with. I ended up buying Phoenix simply because of the Jetfire upgrade kit. He's Jetfire now while my Takara Tomy Skyfire will stay Skyfire.

It's always looked like the Takara is supposed to extend at the waist to make the body taller. Far as I know he doesn't do that, but it would combat the dumpy look.
Watching a fair review such as this one makes my day. More options for customers is always better and depending what you're looking for, at least you have a choice. Some people might simply just go for both, but the character doesn't speak to me so I passed on this one.
Phoenix is too heroric for my liking he looks like he fits more in line with War/Fall for Cybertron or TF Shattered Glass take, but for my G1 toon I perfer Takara Skyfire.
I don't think that's going to happen as official Takara Tomy Transformers rarely go down in price and I don't think Skyfire will go down in price. Had I known I would get a second chance to buy Skyfire, as they were completely sold out, I would had sold mine on eBay simply because they were going upwards of $1K. Personally, I never cared for Phoenix so I didn't buy him and I'm glad I waited as this is how Skyfire is supposed to look. All 8 of my Fans Toys Transformers are toon accurate with the exception of Outrider, which is close enough. I have Astrotrain, Cyclonus, Kup, Trailbreaker, Metallic Galvatron, Jazz, Cliffjumper and Springer. Trying to remember the fake names are hard as that's not what I'm used to calling them. I'll probably eventually break down and but MMC Saltus, Springer, as he's more toon accurate but, I like the alt modes better on Fans Toys take and that's probably the only reason I haven't bought him yet as 2 of the 3 modes look better on Fans Toys take.
Loved this faceoff, it made me realize how much I prefer the Takara version. I guess I do in fact love toon accurate more. No waist articulation is unforgivable though.
Great Review. Even though the outcome didn't come out the way you wanted I feel it was as unbias review as it can get. I do feel that the time between the releases should be mentioned as I would hope something coming out 4 years prior would have trouble competing with something that just came out today. I did get both myself.
I have the Phoenix-X (won it in a raffle) and it's great and i'm keeping it. BUT, if i was displaying in a detolf or a shelf with less height than i have available, i'd have no hesitation with the Takara if the FT wouldn't fit. I do like how both look, in their own way.

Skyfire's chest is a real great example of excess cartoon accuracy. I don't care if they drew his pecs hanging off at a weird angle like that, it looks wrong. It looks like his torso has come unpegged and is falling apart.
Aaaand my main issue with how the FT one looks is - the chest. It's just misproportioned, looks ugly in my eyes, not heroic but TOO heroic for no reason (not EVERY TRANSFORMER EVER EVERYWHERE has to have the heroic looking, and especially over the top heroic looking). Even back in 2017 when I got FT Skyfire I didn't like his chest proportions and that (along with the height) was the only thing DacaToys Kronos did better than him. I still have both FT Phoenix and DacaToys Kronos. MP57 should arrive next month.
@@BegUltra I actually agree. It's like baby's first attempt at drawing a superhero, they blew the chest out of proportion. They did the same thing with their grimlock and it looks goofy. Still less goofy than the takara one which translated some rakish lines on the control art into a chest that looks like its falling apart tho.
Another question would be if you already own the fans toys, is it worth upgrading to the takara? in my view, *no.* The advantages that you get in the takara version do not outweigh what you lose. That and nearly every accessory that he seems to come with you can buy via third party. But i'm biased, as I produce third party products.

So, um, slight problem with the side of the arms comparison. The red stripe on your Phoenix is from the reprolabels set you put on it yonks ago. Same with the foot detailing and some of the other stuff.
Well this is just toon Vs stylised. I'd score the visual category front back and everything else to Takara, that's just my bag. And for everyone debating on patreon for bobby's channel, it's well worth it. A lot of content to consume.
This has been such an interesting VS to me, I like toon accuracy but understand what Bobby says about Phoenix, don't have any and believe FT Is better, BUT, at the same time, I don't have Phoenix bc I never cared about it, and I've been having a little itch about getting Skyfire bc of the MP
Generally I prefer the toon look, but I have noticed that it differs a bit from figure to figure. f.i. I went with FT seaspray 2.0 because of the toon belly look. Yet I prefer ft phoenix over skyfire due to it looking more heroic.
In fairness to the people saying they want 'toon but not swapping out their FT, if you really wanted a modernised mature take on Jetfire with plenty of sculpted detail and linework, you should swap out your FT for the Siege one (and you'd get a waist swivel, too)!!! :-P ;-)
Have you thought about doing an ultimate review? What I mean, updated CHUG, vs legends winner, vs MP winner? In this case, WFC Jetfire vs New Age vs MP-57. You could put on Patreon, maybe even with the Dummies???
I think you should add a number from 1-5 or something to indicate just how much one beat the other. 1 being by very little 5 being by an absolute landslide and then even average out that number at the end.

I'd actually love to see you compare Fanstoys Phoenix to the Hasbro WFC Siege Jetfire. OR, compare the Takara Skyfire to the Hasbro WFC Siege Jetfire. I know they are totally different scales, and that you generally eschew Hasbro mainline stuff, but that is actually part of why I'd like to see your comparison/analysis.
I have both and I disagree. I love Skyfire and Phoenix was the substitute as Takara Tomy nailed the cartoon look. Phoenix is now a G1 Jetfire with the upgrade kit.
Fanstoys just isn't jetfire... if it's not toon accurate then it's not the bot. It's just an expensive stunt double for jetfire where Takara is the star. simple.

As my Previous comment seems to have been cast to the winds by youtube, I'll post again, sorry if this doubles up at all. As someone who own's both of these, and you can go to my channel to see that I'm not lying about that, I will say that I LOOOOOOOOOOVE my Takara, and Don't much care for my Fanstoys. I don't like either's face, but I do think that the FT looks like it has some Plastic Surgery that went awry, so I will take the Takara any day of the week... Though to be fair when I said I wanted Toon accuracy I did mean that. I don't always want Toon accuracy, like you will never catch me with a Toon Huffer, but this time it truly was what I wanted. I will say that I don't think you were fair to the Takara on Gimmicks despite it winning that category. As I see it, it's not even close, with all it's little compartments to better integrate with the figures it came with, which yes is related to accessories but is distinct from it. And I don't know where you can see the FT for 220, When I got the Re-release from TFSource that sucker was a cool 100 dollars more expensive than that, and every site I go to lists it as a 320 figure, just as you don't care that people got a Coupon, I don't care that once upon a time, FT actually used to charge what their figures were worth. They don't any more, and if you go to buy it today, the MP is just a better deal. Going in I knew this was going to be a Slaughter on the Takara's behalf, and I'm glad to see that my Ability to spot the best remains unblemished.

I'm with you 100 on this Bobby. Takara looks amazing for what it's trying to be, but Fans Toys works better for me, for a lot of the same reasons you mentioned for you. The only thing I'm jealous of is the gerwalk thing. How much you wanna bet FT does a 2.0?

Overall I prefer Phoenix, but the Takara one is the first Takara MP I've planned to get since MP-27 Ironhide. It just didn't work out financially right now.
Im keeping Fanstoys, but also keeping Takara. Phoenix is staying with my main line up and Takara is going by himself on a shelf till I can figure out how I really want to display him. I like Phoenix more though.
Before this, I thought FT was good enough, and even if not better, would be sufficient....but I have to admit seeing them side by side, the Takara does look better at times, and think I may replace the FT
While the Takara wins here, i don't think i could swap Phoenix for anything other than a Phoenix 2.0 from Fans Toys. Also I have to agree with what people say about Patreon. There's more content that you can consume unless you want to. I personally do the audio stuff more than the videos and reviews, but it's all unfiltered gold.
I really like the MP Skyfire. Yeah, he looks "dumpy," but he looked that way in the cartoon. He's also not a soldier but a scientist. However, Phoenix can easily stand in for Siege Jetfire, where he was a soldier. Phoenix is still a great looking G1 inspired figure.
Nah... I'm keeping my Phoenix. Takara's might be more accurate, but he looks dumb and has no neck. Like a power lifter that never works out his legs. Chicken legs! 😐😅 Ultimately, Phoenix looks much better on my shelf. And not some robot that came out of the robot's special Olympics or something. 😅
Are you serious? Skyfire's legs are huge, possibly even bigger than Phoenix. Just glancing at them I can see how big they are. Also, the neck issue, he's got more neck than Phoenix and I don't have to look that hard to see this part as it's so obvious. The only thing wrong with Skyfire are the gaps in plane mode but, Phoenix has gaps in robot mode so they even out.
Maybe its my eyes, but the sunbow picture has a more elongated chest. The Takara is squished. I wanted the The Takara for teh jet mode, but unfortunately, it looks bad. I wish they would just sell those tiny figures separately. same with the spike , sparkplug, Carlie and Chip figures.
@@MrOmgchimps I didn't think he did, but my v1 FT Skyfire doesn't have red arm stripes or silver markings on the feet. The Toyhax sticker set includes those details.
Articulation tends to be one thing Takara lights up the entire night sky with...so okay, I'll give it that. It's fair and logical in that regard, so there. Accessories, ehhh. Flight stand is a huge win, but only if they've fixed it from the MP52 version (because apparently, it sucks so bad that even the KOs couldn't fix how awful that version was). The minifigures I don't care about, the only extra face i like is the Macross/Robotech Valkyrie style one, and the chest parts, ehhh, Siege Jetfire does the faction change gimmick better, so that's a miss for me. Proportions...both FansToys and Siege do that much better. Even the NewAge and Magic Square offerings do it better with proportions AT A MUCH SMALLER SIZE. Not a good look for Takara in that regard. Jet mode? Nevermind FansToys...even previous toys that weren't going for screen accuracy at all do it better than MP57. The G1 toy, the Classics Voyager (which, scale be smurfed, is my personal favorite and I want the most), even the derpy Thrilling 30 Leader class that got retooled into those derpy Combiner Wars Leader class Seekers. I get the nostalgia hit, but again, previous offerings hit it as well. NewAge hits it even harder with an outright Valkyrie inspired repaint of their Jetfire, to give it that G1 toy look. So with all that said, I still don't see the point of MP57...
These two are a tale of the same companies doing different things in their respective time. Had Takara done a skyfire ten years ago no doubt it would look like phoenix. If fanstoys do a 2.0 now it'll look much closer MP57. It was even more odd seeing that flip around on acoustic wave Vs MP sound wave.
I think the commander class looks better than the masterpiece. More interesting, looking, less cartoonish. If only they could've mashed the 2 versions together, using more of the sculpt from the commander and the engineering of the masterpiece. I think Bobby might have liked it better.
I think the ft is the better looking figure and I like the size better but takara is going on my shelf due to the stupid toon accuracy that we are forced in.
The Patreon has a ton of content. If you're like me and don't want to add yet another recurring $5/$10 monthly subscription on top of the 10 most people already have, join the patreon one time and see how much you consume, then cancel. Come back every 4 or 5 months and consume as much as you like. A $10 hit maybe 3 times a year isn't too bad.
Another great comparison. I went with Takara Tomy's version of Skyfire simply because he looks like Skyfire. I might had bought Phoenix in the past but, something was always off with him so I never did. I'm glad I waited as I love Takara's take on him. He's also bringing the prices for Fans Toys Phoenix way down as people are starting to sell him. If I can get him for relatively cheap, I just might and just keep him in alt mode as he does look better in alt mode.
I have FT. I have no interest in getting the Takara. Having said that, I think the Takara has a lot more personality throughout the figure. FT is more "generic hero".
It feels like you might change your mind about the visually interesting part. I think in the long run you will prefer the cartoon accuracy because that will stay with you longer. Including the weird headsculpt, I think that with time you will want to go back and prefer the Takara, imho
Though I prefer the Takara and that's the one I have on my season one shelf, I have to admit that Fans Toys feels more solid. Like, I don't feel like something is going to come loose when I handle Phoenix.

Why wouldn't you want it to look toon? If you grew up watching Transformers then that's what you want. The thing is, while Fans Toys is going 100% toon right now, Phoenix wasn't a toy they recently came out with. If he came out now, he'd be 100% toon and all the Fans Toys fan would be praising how accurate he is to the cartoon, just like what they're doing with Jazz, Cliffjumper, Astrotrain, Cyclonus and others that recently came out. If they wanted stylized, then the DX9 Chigurh would had beaten out Fans Toys Astrotrain.
@@astartespete I see this all the time with Fans Toys. When they have the 100% toon accurate toy, it's all praises. When they don't, it's all about build quality, paint and whatnot. For the record, I have both Phoenix and Skyfire. I also have a lot of Fans Toys Transformers along with Takara Tomy Masterpieces.
Like, if I like the toon better you want us to sell the FT. Why not have both man, like obviously you are trying to make a point. But like you say my money, gonna do what I want with it.

It's always looked like the Takara is supposed to extend at the waist to make the body taller. Far as I know he doesn't do that, but it would combat the dumpy look.

Watching a fair review such as this one makes my day. More options for customers is always better and depending what you're looking for, at least you have a choice. Some people might simply just go for both, but the character doesn't speak to me so I passed on this one.
Phoenix is too heroric for my liking he looks like he fits more in line with War/Fall for Cybertron or TF Shattered Glass take, but for my G1 toon I perfer Takara Skyfire.
The poses when they're first standing next to each other; Phoenix wants to hold hands and Skyfire is looking away HARD.
I love the FTs hands. Still the best on any of my transformers.
I started using some silicone grease on the squeaky joints of my figures and it's so much better on the ears.
I have Fanstoys Pheonix it looks way better in jet mode , but if the takara one went on clearance i would pick it up
I don't think that's going to happen as official Takara Tomy Transformers rarely go down in price and I don't think Skyfire will go down in price. Had I known I would get a second chance to buy Skyfire, as they were completely sold out, I would had sold mine on eBay simply because they were going upwards of $1K. Personally, I never cared for Phoenix so I didn't buy him and I'm glad I waited as this is how Skyfire is supposed to look. All 8 of my Fans Toys Transformers are toon accurate with the exception of Outrider, which is close enough. I have Astrotrain, Cyclonus, Kup, Trailbreaker, Metallic Galvatron, Jazz, Cliffjumper and Springer. Trying to remember the fake names are hard as that's not what I'm used to calling them. I'll probably eventually break down and but MMC Saltus, Springer, as he's more toon accurate but, I like the alt modes better on Fans Toys take and that's probably the only reason I haven't bought him yet as 2 of the 3 modes look better on Fans Toys take.
Loved this faceoff, it made me realize how much I prefer the Takara version. I guess I do in fact love toon accurate more. No waist articulation is unforgivable though.
Great Review. Even though the outcome didn't come out the way you wanted I feel it was as unbias review as it can get. I do feel that the time between the releases should be mentioned as I would hope something coming out 4 years prior would have trouble competing with something that just came out today. I did get both myself.
I like them both, cant go wrong with either one.
I have the Phoenix-X (won it in a raffle) and it's great and i'm keeping it. BUT, if i was displaying in a detolf or a shelf with less height than i have available, i'd have no hesitation with the Takara if the FT wouldn't fit. I do like how both look, in their own way.

Nice review, I think this one is closer than the final tally would suggest as both are solid figures.
Skyfire's chest is a real great example of excess cartoon accuracy. I don't care if they drew his pecs hanging off at a weird angle like that, it looks wrong. It looks like his torso has come unpegged and is falling apart.
Aaaand my main issue with how the FT one looks is - the chest. It's just misproportioned, looks ugly in my eyes, not heroic but TOO heroic for no reason (not EVERY TRANSFORMER EVER EVERYWHERE has to have the heroic looking, and especially over the top heroic looking).
Even back in 2017 when I got FT Skyfire I didn't like his chest proportions and that (along with the height) was the only thing DacaToys Kronos did better than him.
I still have both FT Phoenix and DacaToys Kronos. MP57 should arrive next month.
@@BegUltra I actually agree. It's like baby's first attempt at drawing a superhero, they blew the chest out of proportion. They did the same thing with their grimlock and it looks goofy. Still less goofy than the takara one which translated some rakish lines on the control art into a chest that looks like its falling apart tho.

The advantages that you get in the takara version do not outweigh what you lose. That and nearly every accessory that he seems to come with you can buy via third party.

So, um, slight problem with the side of the arms comparison. The red stripe on your Phoenix is from the reprolabels set you put on it yonks ago. Same with the foot detailing and some of the other stuff.
Well this is just toon Vs stylised. I'd score the visual category front back and everything else to Takara, that's just my bag.
And for everyone debating on patreon for bobby's channel, it's well worth it. A lot of content to consume.

This has been such an interesting VS to me, I like toon accuracy but understand what Bobby says about Phoenix, don't have any and believe FT Is better, BUT, at the same time, I don't have Phoenix bc I never cared about it, and I've been having a little itch about getting Skyfire bc of the MP
Generally I prefer the toon look, but I have noticed that it differs a bit from figure to figure. f.i. I went with FT seaspray 2.0 because of the toon belly look. Yet I prefer ft phoenix over skyfire due to it looking more heroic.
Dude I just noticed a stress mark on the hinges that connect the right arm and the shoulder for the Takara. Ouch

FT Phoenix is how I remember Skyfire from the cartoon in my mind, Takara is what he actually looks like in the cartoon.
In fairness to the people saying they want 'toon but not swapping out their FT, if you really wanted a modernised mature take on Jetfire with plenty of sculpted detail and linework, you should swap out your FT for the Siege one (and you'd get a waist swivel, too)!!! :-P ;-)

Have you thought about doing an ultimate review? What I mean, updated CHUG, vs legends winner, vs MP winner? In this case, WFC Jetfire vs New Age vs MP-57. You could put on Patreon, maybe even with the Dummies???
I think you should add a number from 1-5 or something to indicate just how much one beat the other. 1 being by very little 5 being by an absolute landslide and then even average out that number at the end.
The funny thing about wanting toon accurate bots is the way the bots actually look in the cartoon. Takara nails it with this one. Great video Bobby, I'll follow you on patrons.

I'd actually love to see you compare Fanstoys Phoenix to the Hasbro WFC Siege Jetfire. OR, compare the Takara Skyfire to the Hasbro WFC Siege Jetfire. I know they are totally different scales, and that you generally eschew Hasbro mainline stuff, but that is actually part of why I'd like to see your comparison/analysis.
For some like me we remember him having shoulders like Phoenix in the cartoons and not dumpy like that in the sunbow chart ie. Takara.
Cartoon accuracy only gets you so far. Fans Toys looks better. Its no contest between these figures. Feels like Takara wasn't really even trying.
I have both and I disagree. I love Skyfire and Phoenix was the substitute as Takara Tomy nailed the cartoon look. Phoenix is now a G1 Jetfire with the upgrade kit.
Fanstoys just isn't jetfire... if it's not toon accurate then it's not the bot. It's just an expensive stunt double for jetfire where Takara is the star. simple.
Agreed. Why is this even a thing. Fanstoys simply is not Sky/Jet fire. Takara IS. How can something that isn't something original be called better than what the original actually is?

As someone who own's both of these, and you can go to my channel to see that I'm not lying about that, I will say that I LOOOOOOOOOOVE my Takara, and Don't much care for my Fanstoys.
I don't like either's face, but I do think that the FT looks like it has some Plastic Surgery that went awry, so I will take the Takara any day of the week... Though to be fair when I said I wanted Toon accuracy I did mean that. I don't always want Toon accuracy, like you will never catch me with a Toon Huffer, but this time it truly was what I wanted.
I will say that I don't think you were fair to the Takara on Gimmicks despite it winning that category. As I see it, it's not even close, with all it's little compartments to better integrate with the figures it came with, which yes is related to accessories but is distinct from it.
And I don't know where you can see the FT for 220, When I got the Re-release from TFSource that sucker was a cool 100 dollars more expensive than that, and every site I go to lists it as a 320 figure, just as you don't care that people got a Coupon, I don't care that once upon a time, FT actually used to charge what their figures were worth.
They don't any more, and if you go to buy it today, the MP is just a better deal.

I'm with you 100 on this Bobby. Takara looks amazing for what it's trying to be, but Fans Toys works better for me, for a lot of the same reasons you mentioned for you. The only thing I'm jealous of is the gerwalk thing. How much you wanna bet FT does a 2.0?

Overall I prefer Phoenix, but the Takara one is the first Takara MP I've planned to get since MP-27 Ironhide. It just didn't work out financially right now.

Before this, I thought FT was good enough, and even if not better, would be sufficient....but I have to admit seeing them side by side, the Takara does look better at times, and think I may replace the FT
While the Takara wins here, i don't think i could swap Phoenix for anything other than a Phoenix 2.0 from Fans Toys.
Also I have to agree with what people say about Patreon. There's more content that you can consume unless you want to. I personally do the audio stuff more than the videos and reviews, but it's all unfiltered gold.

I really like the MP Skyfire. Yeah, he looks "dumpy," but he looked that way in the cartoon. He's also not a soldier but a scientist. However, Phoenix can easily stand in for Siege Jetfire, where he was a soldier. Phoenix is still a great looking G1 inspired figure.
Nah... I'm keeping my Phoenix. Takara's might be more accurate, but he looks dumb and has no neck. Like a power lifter that never works out his legs. Chicken legs! 😐😅 Ultimately, Phoenix looks much better on my shelf. And not some robot that came out of the robot's special Olympics or something. 😅
Are you serious? Skyfire's legs are huge, possibly even bigger than Phoenix. Just glancing at them I can see how big they are. Also, the neck issue, he's got more neck than Phoenix and I don't have to look that hard to see this part as it's so obvious. The only thing wrong with Skyfire are the gaps in plane mode but, Phoenix has gaps in robot mode so they even out.
Maybe its my eyes, but the sunbow picture has a more elongated chest. The Takara is squished. I wanted the The Takara for teh jet mode, but unfortunately, it looks bad. I wish they would just sell those tiny figures separately. same with the spike , sparkplug, Carlie and Chip figures.
I have a hard time getting my takara to clip together properly in either mode, where my FTs is solid.
I think you're giving points to FT for extra paint details that are actually Toyhax labels.
I'm pretty sure Bobby doesn't use stickers for any figure outside of Faction symbols
@@MrOmgchimps I didn't think he did, but my v1 FT Skyfire doesn't have red arm stripes or silver markings on the feet. The Toyhax sticker set includes those details.
Articulation tends to be one thing Takara lights up the entire night sky with...so okay, I'll give it that. It's fair and logical in that regard, so there.
Accessories, ehhh. Flight stand is a huge win, but only if they've fixed it from the MP52 version (because apparently, it sucks so bad that even the KOs couldn't fix how awful that version was). The minifigures I don't care about, the only extra face i like is the Macross/Robotech Valkyrie style one, and the chest parts, ehhh, Siege Jetfire does the faction change gimmick better, so that's a miss for me.
Proportions...both FansToys and Siege do that much better. Even the NewAge and Magic Square offerings do it better with proportions AT A MUCH SMALLER SIZE. Not a good look for Takara in that regard.
Jet mode? Nevermind FansToys...even previous toys that weren't going for screen accuracy at all do it better than MP57. The G1 toy, the Classics Voyager (which, scale be smurfed, is my personal favorite and I want the most), even the derpy Thrilling 30 Leader class that got retooled into those derpy Combiner Wars Leader class Seekers.
I get the nostalgia hit, but again, previous offerings hit it as well. NewAge hits it even harder with an outright Valkyrie inspired repaint of their Jetfire, to give it that G1 toy look. So with all that said, I still don't see the point of MP57...
These two are a tale of the same companies doing different things in their respective time. Had Takara done a skyfire ten years ago no doubt it would look like phoenix. If fanstoys do a 2.0 now it'll look much closer MP57. It was even more odd seeing that flip around on acoustic wave Vs MP sound wave.

I think the commander class looks better than the masterpiece. More interesting, looking, less cartoonish. If only they could've mashed the 2 versions together, using more of the sculpt from the commander and the engineering of the masterpiece. I think Bobby might have liked it better.
I think the ft is the better looking figure and I like the size better but takara is going on my shelf due to the stupid toon accuracy that we are forced in.
The Patreon has a ton of content. If you're like me and don't want to add yet another recurring $5/$10 monthly subscription on top of the 10 most people already have, join the patreon one time and see how much you consume, then cancel. Come back every 4 or 5 months and consume as much as you like. A $10 hit maybe 3 times a year isn't too bad.

Takara for ever
Another great comparison. I went with Takara Tomy's version of Skyfire simply because he looks like Skyfire. I might had bought Phoenix in the past but, something was always off with him so I never did. I'm glad I waited as I love Takara's take on him. He's also bringing the prices for Fans Toys Phoenix way down as people are starting to sell him. If I can get him for relatively cheap, I just might and just keep him in alt mode as he does look better in alt mode.
Based only on appearance in both modes..... I have to go with fanstoys Phoenix.
I have FT. I have no interest in getting the Takara. Having said that, I think the Takara has a lot more personality throughout the figure. FT is more "generic hero".

It feels like you might change your mind about the visually interesting part. I think in the long run you will prefer the cartoon accuracy because that will stay with you longer. Including the weird headsculpt, I think that with time you will want to go back and prefer the Takara, imho

Intersting result, didn't expect that. I wouldn't touch the TT one as I hate the way it looks, its awful. But if what you want is the toon it's the obvious choice.
Why wouldn't you want it to look toon? If you grew up watching Transformers then that's what you want. The thing is, while Fans Toys is going 100% toon right now, Phoenix wasn't a toy they recently came out with. If he came out now, he'd be 100% toon and all the Fans Toys fan would be praising how accurate he is to the cartoon, just like what they're doing with Jazz, Cliffjumper, Astrotrain, Cyclonus and others that recently came out. If they wanted stylized, then the DX9 Chigurh would had beaten out Fans Toys Astrotrain.

@@astartespete I see this all the time with Fans Toys. When they have the 100% toon accurate toy, it's all praises. When they don't, it's all about build quality, paint and whatnot. For the record, I have both Phoenix and Skyfire. I also have a lot of Fans Toys Transformers along with Takara Tomy Masterpieces.
Like, if I like the toon better you want us to sell the FT. Why not have both man, like obviously you are trying to make a point.
