Kingdom cyclonus, at least on the toy deco, did something similair where the eyes are light-piped and also painted, allowing the benefits of light piping and the penefits of painted eyes to coexist. However the kingdom cyclonus mould has an entirely clear neck joint as a result. Yes, the entire ball socket in his head is on the same clear part as the eyes.

I personally love how this thing looks though I do agree with your other criticisms. I would get one at it's original price but the late tax on this thing was crazy and the reissue price isn't that much better.
So this thing used to be cheaper I take it. That would have been really nice.
Yeah I think he was around 220 usd at the time. Fanstoys has been reissuing a bunch of their older in demand releases like their insections and their dinobots, but at a ridiculous markup and obviously this guy was no exception. Just for reference, their insecticons were around 100 usd each and now bbts is selling them for 400+ as a set. The worst part about it is that they're still selling out at that price.
I thoughr I was the only one lol. I did the same sold my fanstoys and kept my siege jetfire. The lack of a waist swivel really bugged me no matter how great the aesthetics were. Its like a sports car without a freaking steering wheel. Great video btw!
I wouldn't say that the Waist is like the steering wheel that's too vital. More like the shifter doesn't have a nob and is more like a lightly jagged rod of metal.

I've never heard of a figure that had ratcheted knee swivels.
Also, I feel like this figure indirectly inspired the WFC verison. If I know anything about Hasbro and Takara, is that they are aware of the third party offerings.
The knees don't have ratcheted swivels thy just sound terrible.
And you are possibly right about that second part.
I personally like when there's light piping, but not when theres a massive block of junk that exists exclusively to prevent it from working.
My problem is if Lightpiping is anything other than it's ABSOLUTE BEST then it looks terrible. And at it's best it looks about as good as chromed eyes.

I think that there's something appealing about this figure. Possibly those chromed eyes. I don't think I'll pick it up any time soon though. Just too expensive

Unfortunately this particular light box only has the White Backdrop. It will stand out better for other figures, but on the all White Skyfire it is a bit of a problem.

Oh that's a hard Choice. You are obviously getting the most out of the MMC but Soundwave is the individual best, though you can only buy like 3 of him for the price of MMC Assaultus.
I think including them as the full set is unfair, but in that case, it ass to go MMC Assaultus 1, MP Soundwave 2, and Light of Freedom 3.

Those joints are probably only bested by fingernails on a chalkboard when it comes to extremely uncomfortable sounds😂

I feel like maybe they didn't ask if it looked pleasing. Like, hey the math checks out on the proportions, but it seems off... Maybe a little bit of artistic license to get it visually appealing and less putting? Maybe a little more paint... Shorten the legs a tiny bit to engineer in a wait swivel or improve the range of motion?
The extra 40 bucks you spent goes to the hidden horror movie soundboard installed in your figure

The siege is not even a micro masterpiece. Because scale is so wonky, the siege figure totally fits with masterpiece.
I'd say it fits Masterpeices if you wonkify the scale, but when compared to regular CHUG figures, he's the scale he's supposed to be.

one advantage i'd say light piping has is you can just paint over it if you don't like it. however i don't think adding light-piping is that easy

For some reason when ever I see pictures of a upcoming Jet fire figure I always think that his plane mode looks like it parts forms because do you have this white plane with a huge red block in the middle so I am always pleasantly surprised when it doesn’t

They combined design teams a few years ago. So yes, some blame does go to Hasbro.
Actually... that is around the time when MPs did REALLY start to suck.
If MP scale stuff had metal and better tires I would be down for collecting. But I refuse to pay that much for something that is only plastic. They could totally use aluminum instead of steel for the metal. There are some very nice aluminum mixtures out there that provide strength and flexibility. Otherwise MP scale isn't as good as people make it out to be. lol
@@NexusProductions-rz1sv that’s because the previous MP designers went to work on the WFC trilogy, so takara had to hire new designers who clearly only aim to make the figures super cartoon accurate without stopping to think if they’re actually making a good figure
@@Blind_Prime nah for me the reason I refuse to collect masterpiece is because due to the super cartoon asthetic they look worse than mainline figures IMO and are 10x the price. For what exactly? A faux forming seeker chest? No waist swivel? Yeah no thanks
Wow this figure was my first FT purchase and I was so impressed I bought two. Siege is a great figure but these are worlds apart in quality. I agree FT is way to expensive right now I've stopped buying them altogether. Its surprising how loose yours is and its still makes all those sounds lol. Both my figures have extremely tight joints and ratchets I've never seen one so loose before even in other reviews. I dont think MP skyfire will beat FT but it will be more expensive.
Why did you get two? It's not like there were two of him in the show or something. Did you customize one int a SG version or something?
@@PerspectiveEnd after I bought the first one at 300$ usd another one popped up on kijiji for 280$ cdn. It was minutes from a hiking trip I was driving to that morning. Normally I would never be out that far so I thought why not i can always flip it. It was brand new sealed T version. Now I keep them in both modes for display.
Funny side note exact same thing happened with my siege figure. Got a second one for 60$cdn on an outing with the family. Same thing keep them in both modes for display.
Oof that's a squeaky figured I thought it was because the joints were tight and could hold their own weight apparently that's not the case. Surprised you check out a fans toys figure with the weird cult it has.

I managed to get a Siege Jetfire for retail price from a fellow Canadian. New in the box, untouched. It was even before COVID. Dude even covered shipping. I genuinely don't know why he wanted it gone, best guess is Spouse found out.
Also yeah, big yikes on this thing. G1 designs honestly never have to be so complicated unless the model did some serious BS like pretty much half the 86 line up. Skyfire was not one of them, which is insane because it was an original design like the 86 characters. Siege nailed complexity for it, perfect balance. Change the surface sculpting and add some joints and bam it's an MP.

That's what I'm saying why is the MP not just an Upgrade of the Siege. It would be perfect like that. Maybe add in better hands an ab crunch, re-infoce the cockpit so it's not just on one screw, and bam you've got the MP.

Siege Skyfire is up to 140$ now!? Extra glad I got mine for 90 a few moths back then. But I've been pretty lucky getting my figures for reasonable prices. Probably why I still don't have a Ratchet, though.

Speaking of buying 3P figures on eBay, I finally broke down and bought Eris Kultur. Found her for $150 after shipping and figured I’d never see her for that price again. Here’s to hoping she actually gets sent to me unlike the last 3P figure I got of of eBay.

My thoughts are, it's not the worst type, since the part ends up where it belongs, but at the same time it's dumb as hell, and I'm now hoping the Deformation Space Starscream will be the figure of my dreams.

Have you seen the selects toy deco Galvatron? Not sure about the stickers to make him look more like the 1986 toy. Oh well, at least it's optional to put them on the figure.

It's the Cheekbones, they are too sculpted and defined. He's supposed to look a little Gaunt, not like he had plastic surgery to make them stronger.

The next MP Jetfire/Skyfire needs to look as good, if not better than this guy, and have current articulation. Many companies seem to be following HasTak in making their hands smooth, and I hope to that aspect as well.
I mean we've seen roughly what it's going to look like and it's pretty ugly.I hope that will be better but I doubt it, MP has kind of lost it's way recently.
@@PerspectiveEnd When I say next MP Jetfire/Skyfire, I really mean next version to be made by a "third party" company. That official MP prototype does not look like anything more than an early rendition. If the final figure does end up very similar to it though, even DaCa Toys Kronos will look better.

This is good new. I knew it was unlikely to be the case, but I couldn't ignore the possibility they were that stupid.
I always thought this figure was good... But it was too expensive, like everything Fanstoys does... When the Siege Jetfire showed up, I thought to my self... I don´t need the Fanstoys anymore. For me It was the same thing as for you.. it was cool, but I did´t needed it.... The Siege is MIND BLOWING!!! Jesus! i if Takara release and up scaled version of the SIege as MP I would buy it, even though I have the Siege one! Phoenix is Great.. but on price and looks.. Siege destroys this thing for me! Oh god.... I love the Sige line, I haven´t loved a line so much since the Cybertron / Galaxy Force (Unicron Trilogy), one.
I think absolutely everyone is thinking the same thing about the MP. Just Scale up the siege Alter the head, increase the articulation, and you have a perfect MP.

Yeah it's super lazy. If they were going to be that lazy why not just re-release the Scourge again and not call it the Sweeps so it doesn't cost extra to have the box art changed. Why put in the 1% effort. It only makes everything about it worse.

I don't understand the cult. Not even a little.
The sad part about not having chromed eyes is that even figures with a light up feature ignores them. I can think of several figures that have an LED in the head, but looks dead if you don't turn them on. It's such a small detail, yet most manufacturers ignore it.
I also had the weirdest idea while I was bitching about the lack of painted eyes. Imagine a figure with solar panels. That will keep the battery charged while you use the LED function as much as you want! Like the solar calculators. Yes, I know this is impractical. People also might not like to see the solar panel strip on their figure.
LED eyes don't have to be that strong or bright so a simple solar panel could do the job. Though hiding it may be a little tough. Since those lights don't take much energy you can go with a smaller solar panel and place it where lightpiping would normally be. Connect that panel to a small rechargeable very small battery and pray the head can hold all of that.
wait, I just remembered about hearing about solar panels that you can paint on. The tech is still new so -shrugs- maybe you should patent it lol
I mean that would lead to a big ugly strip in the robots head, and needing natural light. I'm much happier using batteries.

I don't mind batteries. Just sometimes they require batteries I don't have. Though I agree solar strips are more trouble than they're worth. It just a silly idea. Chrome paint is easier and cheaper.
@@PerspectiveEnd give the solar paint a few more years then it will get cheap enough to paint it on transformers. hell you could have a small transformer (in the sense of electronic transformer not the toy) that could create energy from the movement of some joints during transformation. Or have a generator like in my old watch, every time it moved it charged the batteries. Then you could put it in the chest and every time your batteries die you just shake the figure a bit or transform it a couple of times.

I wonder why they used MP 10 for that picture and not MP 44.
Probably because the MP10 looks a little goofier than the newer figure, so they wanted to hopefully make the Skyfire look better by Proxy.
