    Honestly, I'd like to see more TF reviewers in general who DON'T feel obligated to show the whole transformation. I agree, I don't watch you for a tutorial, I wanna hear your thoughts. If that's easier to express by showing some transformation, obviously that's useful, but if not, I would not mind if you skipped it at all! :)

      If I hadn't watched Bobby's transformation of FT Blurr, I wouldn't have snapped his headpiece. But that's on me.
      I think if there are some particularly tricky bits then it's useful to have a guide, but if Bobby doesn't want to be a guide for that then maybe just leave out some steps or describe rather than show (with his own opinion on how well it worked and/or a suggestion of where one might go for coverage of that step).

      Bobby's transformation bits are useful because if someone's going to break a figure during transformation ... well ... you know what to look out for ;-) (and that's my big fear with these things, so I really appreciate that Bobby is willing to put himself out there). #TeamFatFingers

    I think it speaks volumes of 3rd parties dedication and heart that they continuously compete so closely to the company that owns the license. Thinking about my collection I think the only Takara stuff I have are the autobots, but Im sure that will change over time. Especially with the recent FaaaannnnnssssTooooooyyyyyysssssssssssssn reveals. I think the Mirage VS was a tie too. Which is pretty fascinating being Transform Element. Another great vid BSF!!!

    • @zilvertron
      @zilvertron 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      That one was more impressive, considering it was a brand new figure competing against a 5 year old version from a different company. To MMC(?) Sphinx defence there also was a release being more cartoon colored than the one Bobby used so a slight loss for TE if accuracy would tip the scales, but great for those that missed out on getting Sphinx or just dont like that particular company for some reason. But then again i dont know or particualry care if TE released a 2nd version of the same mold just like MMC did with their release.

    It's funny watching people get defensive about going for MP52 or DS, because I own and like both.
    I think most people would agree with me when I say, MP-52 is a great figure, however, it is inexcusable for it to cost as much as it does, with its complex transformation, to NOT have a waste swivel. A waste swivel should be a given at this point with modern figures. And before you make the excuse that Starscream never swiveled his waste in the cartoon, has Starscream ever flipped anyone off? Didn't think so, dumb argument to defend the indefensible.
    I was in for MP-52 Skywarp and Thundercracker, not anymore. So when DS makes a Thundercracker and Skywarp, I am buying them for my Seekers.

    Fascinating.
    As I said previously, I think a vs with Maketoys would be a conversation worth having.
    I really thought the DS would clean up here. From afar, the transformation looks interesting and achieveable - is it perhaps something you have to experience in person? I'm surprised Takara got articulation - I think it has more joints you don't really need and lacks joints (or range) that you do.
    I think I perhaps feel towards Maketoys the way you do toward FT. The inability to angle the shoulder vanes is a big omission in the MT and the DS achieves many little transformation miracles but I still find myself wanting to want the MT more.

    • @BadLamprey
      @BadLamprey 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It's not a great transformation, but it's no worse than a lot of FT and XTB transformations. At least what happens during the transformation is obvious and clear. It's not like you're moving a bunch of indistinct flaps and it's not intuitive what's even happening. And it's not a constant wrestling match like FT thomas. There are three major steps that are a little awkward and not very well thought out. One of which is getting the wing tips past the torso without scratching it, which BSF didn't even really struggle with.

  • @dankmemer2774
    @dankmemer2774 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    I like the ds more. The waist swivel, the color scheme, the proportions, and the price definitely is better on the ds imo. While the ds lacks the ankle forward and back rocker and the takara has it, that joint is so loose that it only serves to destabilize the entire figure from being able to stand up on its own. Not going to completely bash on takara though, they have some nice paintwork and up until the release of the ds, I thought that mp 52 was the best g1 transformable starscream.

    I really don't understand how many times this needs to be said: that "sunbow scale chart" is just a piece of paper that DOES N-O-T always reflect what the scale was in the ACTUAL GENERATION ONE CARTOON ITSELF, you know ??????
    The seekers were definitely bigger in the ACTUAL cartoon (which is what most of us strive for, and not some 1-photo-chart), also for example Shockwave was never as dwarfed as MP29 made him to be, which is why I keep FT03 on my MP shelf because HE JUST FITS IN PERFECTLY SIZEWISE, while MP29 is just TOO SMALL. Maybe MP29 is accurate to some scale chart, but it is NOT accurate to the ACTUAL cartoon we watched as kids, Shockwave should be MP13's size, which FT03 is.
    So, it's the same here, DS Starscream wins the size battle for me as he is more accurate to the ACTUAL G1 CARTOON 1984-1987, compared to which MP52 is too small.
    Have a nice day

    I'd like to see the Maketoys Vs with DS. Also, I only watch transformations by reviewers if I'm struggling with the figure and I need a tutorial. To be fair, I use EMGO's JTI's for that. Otherwise, I usually skip the transformations in reviews. I skip slowly through yours just in case you've hidden a skit in there somewhere.

    • @YakBat
      @YakBat 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Same, that usually the part I either 2x speed or skip entirely. Really wish 3P started making more affordable non transforming hyper articulated figures like Flame Toys. That way we can skip this whole part.

    • @zilvertron
      @zilvertron 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@YakBat The problem with Flame toys is do you want to pay 500 USD for a figure that is highly articulated and detailed but no transformation, OR pay 300$ for a figure that do transform, not much less articulated but way less detailed but hidden among a collection of dozen or more robots?
      By that i can save 200$ and spend it on another figure i enjoy and transform if i would ever wish than have a very detailed and articulated statue. Flame toys figures are great looking, but most of the time they just price themselves out for me to even bother trying one out.
      (The numbers are taken out of my own ass and does NOT reflect any real life priced robot figures. Any similarities is purely coincidental and merely used to prove a point.)

    • @YakBat
      @YakBat 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@zilvertron hence why I said affordable. Currently Flame Toys has no real competition and as they are official they need to be that expensive to be profitable. DLX is not in the same league in my opinion not same market. The only 3P company that comes close by a 100 miles is that Banana Force. Improve on that, for about the same price and 3P can have a whole new avenue of revenue.

    I've been looking at these two for a while now. I haven't pulled the trigger on either of them but I think I'm going to get the Takara. I really like the proportions of the DS but I can't get past 3rd party companies breaking the cockpit sculpt just for the sake of the waist swivel. The DS almost executes it perfectly but that tiny little break and the reportedly troublesome transformation makes me lean more toward the Takara. Great comparison as always, keep up the good work!

  • @XenoJehuty84
    @XenoJehuty84 ปีที่แล้ว

    The 3rd parties are certainly making waves into quality that surpasses Takara and Hasbro more and more. While some Takara offerings are gems that truly hit what I feel are the definition of what the figure should be such as MP 36 Megatron, aside from a redesign with a cleaner back that figure truly feels like the absolute measuring stick future MP Megatrons should be held up too. Meanwhile you have MP44 while not a bad kit, has a nightmarish transformation, price point, and unnecessary accessories to raise the price point... while something like Magic Square's Light of Peace nails a definitive G1 Optimus design, and a solid transformation that isn't a nightmare nor a price monster.
    With the two Starscreams, I like Starscream 3.0 from Takara, and my only wish would be the colors were less dark, but otherwise it has what I want in a Starscream figure, and a solid transformation. Crimson Wings has a better G1 accurate look but a transformation ruined by shoddy placement of certain elements of the transformation and certain joint weaknesses out of the box. That said given that some Takara figures have joint problems too I guess one can't entirely forgive Takara on that point either. It really sucks when you have two figures so close to perfection but also so far apart from being the definitive Starscream.

  • @jonathanchin3396
    @jonathanchin3396 3 ปีที่แล้ว

    If MP-52 were the same pale gray as Crimson Wings and had much better QC, I think it would've run away with this thing. Yeah, it's a little short but CW is a little too tall, MP-52 scales much better with Takara's MP Megatron, Soundwave and Shockwave.

    You did the Takara vs Make Toys and ranked it 7 to 5. And said Takara was tied with Deformation. So by that logic Deformation should beat Make Toys. Yet you aren't swapping out. What's the "Truth"? Just have a hard time reconciling the objective true comparison ranking and the choice you are making by not swapping out the Maketoys with Takara? We want your opinion but feel confused. We need a Deformation and Make Toys versus comparison.

    I don't necessarily agree with, but can understand your opinions on every aspect of this comparison between the two figures except for one - you said the back cleans up better on the Deformation Space....lol wut?
    EDIT: Other than that...great comparison video.

  • @iamtheomnimonkey
    @iamtheomnimonkey 3 ปีที่แล้ว

    This demonstrates that you are fair. You trashed the Takara in the individual review and yet they tie here. This demonstrates that people trashing Takara are biased against Takara. I'm seeing a lot of the people that prefer the D.S. C.W. crapping on the opinions of people that prefer the Takara. But those that prefer the Takara are more accepting of people's opinions towards the D.S. C.W. I find this to be typical. People that prefer the 3P version are all to often rude..
    I'm happy of people agreeing that they both do different things better and making a personal choice which is how we should all be viewing these.
    On another note: If the subjective opinions are removed, (including build and materials because some copies of Takara's don't have the build problems or materials flaws you experienced which makes these subjective to me), and only go by objective facts Takara wins 6 to 1.
    And price is relevant to the value put on the accessories, gimmics, and extra costs that Takara has such as advertising budget, higher employee costs, IP costs, etc...
    You yourself say you'd rather pay more to get more and support a value equation but on your VS. you give a point to straight price. This is hypocrisy.
    However, good video. Thanks for all you do.

    I have all three, MT, Takara, and DS. Maketoys is the only one I'll keep all three Seekers for. Selling my Takara, and couldn't care less about my DS. I really think Maketoys destroys all of them STILL, especially after I discovered how to line up the cockpit in robot mode with the piece of cockpit on the waist in order to get that fantastic waist swivel. Yeah, it breaks up the tiniest piece of cockpit, but that's all. Maketoys looks better in plane mode for SURE, but the bright, vivid paint job on all three seekers and the sculpt on the Maketoys is the winner for me.

    Same sticking with my make toys version because seekers are not important enough to keep changing up lol they are to many different versions and besides I’m a autobot guy

    I have them both. DS is more stable I am sticking it in jet mode. TT's is in scale and has that presence over DS - it will be posed in robot mode with Megatron. I love it.

    That null ray transformation on Takara is just as annoying as the way they ruin their figures with opening doors and hoods, folding up guns (ie. 44 and 47)

    @RoaddogRoaddog 3 ปีที่แล้ว

    Nah, I got Maketoys first version which is good. Not as good as takara but figure is about 3 years old. I would swap out if the price was right.

    Yeah definitely do Maketoys....although I'm not sure how well it'll hold up to these later models.

    I do have to point out, albeit a little late, but the ds front kick skirt peice does come all the way up, it is a little sketchy but loosens up allowing for the full kick forward

    Maketoys vs DS vs Takara? Are we going for a Number of the Beast 3 Way Tie?!?!

    It’s not the lack of a waist swivel in the Takara one that bugs me… It’s that the cockpit is faux. Like… come on…

    Yeah, sorry man - I think I'd love to see the Maketoys have a run here. My vote is for yes. DO IT. Great review as usual!

    "I'm not going to get either, either." Cool sentence with the same word twice in a row, but pronounced differently.

    Maketoys is 4 years old man, so it's about time to upgrade to Deformation if you're a MP collector.

    I so want the Makes Toys vs DS. I want to see If Bobby will actually decide to change over 😁

    For something to cost almost $300 not to have a waist swivel is unacceptable. Takara gets an automatic thumbs down on that point alone.

    I wish NA oversized their seeker mold but with a few engineering improvements.
