I know alot of fans didn't like this film, but I love the fact that they added the Were Jaguar. That was a nice touch.

Just a little fun fact about his specific transformation; the Were-jaguar plays an important role in South American mythology(Olmec in particular), and is considered a rain deity. These shapeshifters can be good or evil, depending on the person. There’s been several ancient monuments sculptures discovered having this motif. I like that they decided to pick a specific type of supernatural shapeshifter.
And, according to the Hellboy comic wiki; “The Gruagach of Lough Leane is a fairy creature of the Daoine Sidhe, and a vengeful adversary of Hellboy. He is currently trapped in the degenerated body of the fomorian giant Grom, which now resembles a stunted anthropomorphic boar.” The Daoine Sidhe are a race of supernatural beings who make their home in Ireland; they are the Irish Fairies.”
quick side note that even in dnd the fomorians are knows as a race of fey giants that are cursed to look FUCKING UGLY for that is what they truly look on the inside. They were once a race of beautyful people but that beauty was just their face

Yes, Gruagach was a fairy who lost his fair form because a woman saw him in his true form and screamed, thus vanishing him. He took on the form of a changeling eventually, and took the place of baby Abby. Hellboy found him out by using iron tongs, which hurt him. He wanted revenge and had Jenny Greenteeth (another cryptid) free Grom. Grom ate Gruagach, but after Hellboy defeated him, Grauagch was able to take over Grom's piggish body. Still wanting revenge, he set in motion the return of the blood queen, which would lead to the end of England and all fairy-kind, himself included.
As for the werejaugar, in the comics, its evil. Just pure evil and never serves as an ally once Ben changes. He kills BPRD members and escapes, before finally meeting his end by suicide against a Wendigo .

The thing the movies keep getting wrong is that Hellboy isn't this "I'm a badass" wise-crackling heavy metal asshole, he's a depressed detective. Like 90% of the comics is just him being quiet and miserable and solving mysteries, I don't know why they think this is what people want

Really, all the comics you got like 90% investigation and history development and like 10% of heavy fighting. Del Toro made him a teen who needs constantly babysitting and the remake made him this 100% "heavy metal asshole". Both ideas just to pander people and make them feel in love with a Wattpad fanfic hero.
It’s because you know. The trendy edgy saucy anti-hero plot that is in every fcking movie this days. They think hellboy fits in that category since he’s basically a demon but also good. Also Del Toro got some blame on that, he was the first one to bring it to the big screen and he also made hellboy all quirky and shit. Now majority of people think that’s how he really is. But also, i don’t think movies will work that well with Hellboy as he really is, all dark and gritty
So the closest thing we got to a comic accurate Hellboy is Damien Dark from Invincible?

@vergil7776 Since Werewolves are classified as Lycanthropes, in Mythology, there is a feline variant called Ailuranthropes which includes beasts like Were Lions, Were Jaguars, Were Tigers and any other big cat.
There are also the Ajaba, which in African Mythology are WereHyenas. They're able to transform during the day and night at their own will as well as remain w/ their human conscience.

Also Hellboy in the comics is not nearly as witty, although I still enjoy the banter both movies have, it’s just not accurate is all

The effect of his scar is popping open was cool. A shame they completely FORGOT to include them a few seconds later.

I don't mind being r-rated,but the storyline and the quality were garbage and there were unnecessary scenes in the movie and the monsters feel that they are coming from the horror b-movies and the movie needs the deadpool and the boys type of quality.

This movie had the right tools but the wrong instructions. They had the effects, actors, soundtrack, hype and fans to back it up and make a good film but it's like they literally put on a blindfold and just let luck do the job.

No sheet. Don't remember why I said what I did, but it wasn't to imply Ron was in the movie. I recently saw it and it was horrible. Harbour was indeed a lame duck try hard with no impact. It was like a 10 year old wrote hellboys 'jokes'.
Yeah. Absolute failure. Hellboy is supposed to be a guy actively rejecting his destiny to destroy mankind, not a cocky teenager with a bloated ego.

Grab some characters, stripe them down from their original nature and change the whole history to pander to people is indeed creative, but an offense to the actual creator of the idea. "Oh, I know, let take the girl and make her the love interest and they will be together even if Hellboy is now the equivalent of a 50-year-old manchild who doesn´t have any idea how to even speak to a woman... and they will have babies!"
Yeah, Mignola was greedy but from letting someone else fuck the history and characters just to make them popular. Now is a franchise that nobody will dare to touch cause you will have a horde of guys telling how is not good cause is not the same as the first two movies.

I hope this gets a sequel, but I also hope it’s darker and the comedy is more subtle. The cartoons portrayed him so well compared to the comics. This movie seemed like it was trying to be that, but also competing with Ron Pearlman, which was a bad idea since Pearlman SLAYED the roll in his two movies lol

The reason why Del Toros was better, in my opinion, was because in fights like this, he would have it either all one shot, so that way we don’t get headaches because it’s multiple shots. Or long takes of actual fighting without cutting to the next shot. This entire scene was giving me a headache, cause how much shots, and how it was too much of a fast paced. Which is why I prefer Del Toro is better
I like the Idea of a Werecat, there could be a whole movie just on that. A man dealing with a Werecat supernatural curse as the protagonist and a Werewolf being the antagonist with the human form being a criminal mastermind.

Why is Hellboy such an idiot in this film? In the comics he grew up to be an albeit chaotic, extremely intelligent, incredibly shrewd supernatural detective. He hardly has the patience to interact with anyone other than his father, Liz, and sometimes Abe, and he DEFINITELY wouldn't have the energy for being so chatty with everyone he fights. Most of the time he's brooding over the burden of having to resist his demonic impulses constantly, and that the people that don't know he exists will never understand how many times the entire planet has _almost_ been annihilated. This version of Hellboy acts like some reject frat boy. Really wish Ron Pearlman would have returned for the reboot. Whoever wrote this script seems to have only taken the demonic action-packed parts from the comics, and forgot all of the subtle murder-mystery nuance and proper storytelling. The simplicity. The silence.
Leave it to Hollywood to ruin practically everything they touch.

I know everyone, me included, was disappointed that they didn’t get to finish the Hellboy trilogy but this movie isn’t as bad as it’s made out to be. I actually enjoyed it, and after watching a few clips am going to rewatch with an even more open mind.
I've given this movie multiple shots, it is still difficult to watch without groaning. The 2 films made before this are not to blame.

But that didn't keep me from genuinely hating this wannabe Marvel flick. You could deep fake Captain America or the Hulk into Hellboy, it wouldn't make a difference plotwise.
It's all the same, always the same, dumb, video game formula paired with MEME language that's all the hype currently.
Some of it looks like 1970's stop motion animation.
There are more ways than one to make a character barbaric, and strong language isn't one of them. It just makes them look stupid, Director included.
