I think the Mummy series is the best example of how super-powerful beings in movies NEVER use their powers to just one-shot people, and just spend all their time tossing them back and forth until they find a way to escape or fight back. Let me explain to you why the movie is bad:
1. They changed the film writer and the director. Any genuine Sommers Mummy Film fan will see that as a major red flag.
2. Replacing Rachel Weisz as Evelyn Carnahan-O'Connell. She was replaced by Maria Bello when she pulled off a "I gotta get out of here" card for kinda obvious reasons. Also a major red flag here. It never helped that Maria Bello pulled off a parody version of Evy, which gave a sour taste in the fans' mouth. It also severely damaged the title couple, as they lost all the romantic chemistry in this film which is a shame. I love Rick and Evy O'Connell, and their original portrayers (Brendan Fraser and Rachel Weisz) did them justice. The perfect Warrior and Scholar couple in my eyes.
3. Writers and Director seemingly not reading/seeing/analyzing the source material. They seemed to fail to know Alex O'Connell, as they tolerated the actor to have an American accent. (Alex was raised in the UK btw.) Also, he was written to be a condescending pain in the bum in this movie, contrary to the depiction of the kid in the first sequel.
4. The setting. When people talk about mummies, Ancient Egypt comes to mind first. The first two films are historically inaccurate, yes, but at least they did kinda gave Ancient Egyptian culture justice and even made Imhotep of Memphis known. This film, Tomb of the Dragon Emperor, is set in China. It's so strange. I have no idea how Hindu curses work (The witch cursed the Dragon Emperor in Sanskrit, the liturgical language of Hinduism), but I'm sure it's not like that. (The terracotta thing) Also, it would sound better if they actually utilized the real Qin Shi Huang and his obsession with immortality and mercury, but still, the problem still exists: China, as good as it is, is no Ancient Egypt. China and stereotypical mummies do not mix.
4. The lack of the film's signature uplifting nature. The first two Sommers Mummy films may not be a work of the finest Artiste™, but it gives off a welcoming and fun atmosphere that everyone can appreciate. This film doesn't have it. Rick O'Connell's uplifting, fun and endearing character was gone in a jiffy. Evelyn became an entirely different person and so much more. I can blame it on the new writers and director. They never let Sommers do his thing in the third film.

About mummies, I know it's not an exclusive Ancient Egyptian thing, but most people will picture out mummies as corpses wrapped in bandages treated with Natron and then put to rest within elaborate sarcophagi with Hieroglyphic spells carved on it. China as a setting for a film which capitalized on Egyptian Mummies? That's really weird tbh.
