I love how the two main characters are polar opposites at the end of the film.
Basically, Sivana sees family as a tyrant. Seeing his childhood, you can really understand why he feels that way.
Meanwhile, Billy (as the film progresses) sees family as a source of power.
I means thats a basic of good developed villains . Clash of ideology between them

Lexes real power comes from his intellect, which accomplishes wonders.
Although Lex does want power like that.
Wealth got them that power so no kidding. But power comes from many things and it can even surpass those things. Power from wealth can overpower political power or maybe it does not.
Lex wants power like that and pretty positive he would give up his materials for that power
If this happened at LexCorp, Lex would simply laugh in Sivana's face before killing him and dispersing the Sins with one of his many anti-Superman contingencies.
I love how pride is on his own while the rest are together just shows the sins perfectly. 3:04

This is why villains are so fun. Sivana getting his revenge is such a satisfying scene. His father and brother were absolutely in the wrong all of Thad's life. Is being an asshole worth a death sentence? In the real world, no; but this is a movie and damn was it cathartic seeing Sid get launched out the window.

I should know, I experience these things a lot in my life. A persons morals and choice is what defines their true power. if you are given this power, will you settle petty differences and then move on to conquer all? Or will you stay away from the past and prove those people wrong about your worth and demonstrate your compassion, empathy and protective nature?
Its that exact feeling that messes with your head. We applaud this kind of thing for the right reason but it means that is will put them in the position of purging all evil, whether it is justice or not.

This scene was genuinely terrifying strictly because of how different the tone was from the rest of the movie. So incredibly dark!

I remember when I saw this scene in theaters, I was like "Holy Shit!" It was not what I was expecting 😂
I think this works because the director, David F Sandberg used to work on horror before this. Just like James Wan with Aquaman, both managed to use their horror skills perfectly to build up tension. By having a former horror director to make this scene, it really works beautifully for the darker roots

It's scenes like this why I appreciate Shazam so much. They could have made the whole movie super family-friendly and silly but they made the villains a genuine threat with brutality and darkness. For each joke and goofy moment, they have scenes like this or when Billy's mom rejects him.

i mean even though its not blood its still pretty implied somebody got their head bitten off, tentacle gone through someones body, someone gets ripped apart, oh yea and dude literally got thrown out of a window, plus that whole window scene wear you see people dying off 1 by 1. but sure we'll go with your idea
i love all of the little details, like when the sins are speaking it shows their personalities
envy knows that there's someone more powerful and that infuriates him
pride thinks he's above the sins and is standing apart from them and sivana, he also doesn't acknowledge shazam as a threat but instead justs acknowledges him only through the reputation of the wizard
and wrath is the only one out of the three that makes a comment about wanting to kill billy
another thing is how they foreshadow sivana's weakness, in 3:13 his eye is blank and all the sins are out but when most of the sins are re-absorbed in 4:13 his eye starts to glow
the final thing i noticed is that sivana notices the add but only reacts when he hears 'our focus is family' when he hears this he becomes enraged because he knows the hypocrisy in the ad and it reminds him of how his family never paid attention to him
It took me a while to notice this but...
-Sid in the opening with 8-ball: "Outlook, not so good."
-Thad after throwing out brother: "Outlook...not so good."
-Thad and Sid father in the opening: "You can't go crying to other people all the time."
-Thad when his father cries for help after the sins kill the board: "You can' go crying to other people all the time."
-Wrath-The Sin that makes first kill.
-Lust-sticks out and directs it's tongue at a Woman when it blocks her.
-Envy: "There is one more Powerful...."
-Pride: "The Wizard found his Champion..."
-Wrath: "Kill the champion...(before he finds his true potential...or he will defeat you.)"
-Greed: Kills his dad.

The writing in this movie was great with attention to setups/payoffs. Would’ve liked to see more dynamic action but this movie was like 90M so it makes sense that it wouldn’t be like Aquaman or MoS/BvS

my favorite part of this scene is when Sivana gets in the elevator at the end the companies message of “pride and family” comes on and he shatters the screen cutting it off

Marvel fan here. This was an underrated movie and needs more love. Hoping DC brings out more quality films like this one. It's a shame that the lesser DC films got more hype and press than this entertaining gem of a movie.

Sloth: has a hunchback and walks on all 4 it seems

Gluttony: fat which shows how it hungers for more

my dad made me bring my 6 yr old sister with me to this movie, i assumed it would be fine because it was just a superhero movie. then i had to cover her eyes during all the monster scenes cause she was freaking out

Kollector loves to accumulate wealth and trinkets... Greed is definitely fitting for his personality, so it makes a lot of sense that the two would look similar (even if it’s just a wild coincidence)
Honestly, as Sivana is walking to the elevator, I can imagine him singing, humming, or whistling, "It's beginning to look a lot like Christmas," because he just got the best Christmas present he could ask for, and he's on his way out looking for more.

Mark Strong is practically Gary Oldman-level dynamic in terms of friend or foe. He's exactly who you want want helping you in Kingsman, he's the perfect henchman in Rocknrolla, and then he turns on the straight up evil here.

That is how you can give generic looking monsters depth, imbue them with a meaning. Religious symbols are very powerful. Makes it so much more interesting.
If people recognize it
Doctor Sivana went from being your stereotypical mad scientist to a man disgusted by his weakness and so became the modern equivalent of the evil sorcerer archetype (which fits better with Shazam powers being made of magic).
Imagine taking your kid to see this movie based on the wholesome, bubble-gum blowing Shazam character and then getting this scene.
Only two words come to mind throughout this entire scene regarding the brother and father: fully deserved.

This is the kind of villains i like. Those whose mere presence changes tge entire tone of the story into something darker. Those whose movies only have funny scenes when they aren't on screen. That's when you really feel their level of threat in my opinion.
You can really feel Sandberg’s horror talents at work here.

DC is actually not that dark. I'd say the only hero who fills the dark tone is Batman. The rest are bright and idealistic heroes. So yeah, DC is not all about that dark and gritty stuff.

I really wanted the seven sins to have some more vibrant colors or at least different colored eyes so that it was easier to differentiate them. Like, Greed and Wrath and Lust... They were easy to tell. But Envy and Sloth and others.... Kinda hard.

I've learned that when people say a character is suave or charismatic, they usually mean fuckable (I'm pretty sure you don't mean that; it's just that I've noticed that there's a disturbing correlation I've noticed between characters people find physically attractive and people who they deem "charismatic). And I'm not going to say different, because really, why the hell would people listen to differences?
It makes my stomach seize when I imagine the kind of dull retreads people would create with Superman, especially when their ideal Lex Luthor is just "charismatic" or "suave" (That's like saying Steve Irwin was "Australian" as part of his personality.
)
Essentially, Superman would have no interiority, Lex would be "bootyful and misunderstood" and Lois would exist solely as a trophy for Superman to "win" in a series of B99-style hijinks bracketed with mass destruction that have no impact on even the immediate environment by the next movie.
(so, basically Thor the Dark World, only somehow worse)
Lex in the DC Animated Universe (which is where everyone and I mean *FUCKING EVERYONE* gets their version) is not suave or charismatic. He is a brutal heartless bastard who lives for the concept of "more" and is willing to shit on governments and people to get it.
When his fortune's gone in Justice League and Justice League Unlimited, he's domineering, dismissive, and demanding, all in the name of putting himself on a pedestal.
Jesse Eisenberg's Luthor was a modern millionaire, a libertarian weasel with an abusive past who believed that anyone who had power was evil and embraced that idea to the point of madness.
And really, who needs to be suave?

You can have Mark Strong play Lex Luthor, but I guarantee no one will like it.
Because he'll play it the way he sees fit and I know that won't gel with the "transplant my childhood to reality" aesthetic that people attach to superhero adaptations.
I expect none of this to mean anything to you. But I'm not going to debate this anymore since I'm burned out on having to justify why I like a movie about Superheroes.
