    Dr. Judy's Vaccine Resources ► drjudymorgan.com/pages/vaccin...
Dr. Zac, a veterinarian, discusses vaccine titers and their importance in determining the level of protection against specific diseases in pets. He explains that vaccine titers measure the amount of antibodies in the bloodstream and provide a quantitative value of protection. Dr. Zac emphasizes that once a certain threshold is reached, the animal is considered protected, and there is no such thing as being "more protected." He also mentions that some veterinarians may not fully understand or support vaccine titers due to lack of knowledge or financial reasons. Dr. Zac recommends titering for core vaccines such as rabies and the combo vaccine for distemper, parvo, and adenovirus. He advises against titering for non-core vaccines like lepto, as they may not provide long-lasting immunity. Dr. Zac discusses the high cost of titers at local veterinarians and the need for a more affordable option. He introduces his website, www.naykedpet.com/, where pet owners can send in blood samples for titers and receive consultations with Dr. Zac to interpret the results. Dr. Zac also mentions the stance of veterinary associations on titers, with the AVMA still not fully endorsing them, while the AHA considers them as an acceptable alternative. He acknowledges the lack of education on titers in veterinary schools and the need for more awareness and integration of holistic approaches. Dr. Zac concludes by highlighting the importance of educating groomers, boarding facilities, and other pet care providers about titers to avoid unnecessary vaccinations.

I live in Massachusetts and I had to drive an hour and a half in order to take my miniature Dachshund puppy to an Integrative veterinary clinic. It is a shame that there are not more veterinarians that are interested in saving pets from unnecessary vaccinations. My friends thought I was nuts, but I know that I was right in doing this for her because of her size and the tendency for miniature Dachshunds to react adversely to over vaccination. Thank you, Dr. Judy, for all your wonderful advice. I bought your book and it was very helpful for me to make the decision to find an Integrative Holistic vet.

@@di_kid00in a state I lived in, they sent me a form with a list of reasons I didn’t have my dog V’d and one of them was “dog died”. I selected that and sent it back so they would stop hassling me. You can also give your dog another name when they go to a vet so the state never gets an accurate paper trail on them. The state should have no involvement in personal health decisions we make for OUR pets and people need to start fighting back or at least be as sneaky as the state has been to prevent them from gaining more access to our personal information. It’s one thing to be an irresponsible pet owner who allows a pet to roam around unsupervised causing havoc in a neighborhood and another to be a concerned pet owner who doesn’t want to expose an animal you love to toxic ingredients that can potentially cause them harm.

My alternative vet up here in the rural mountains of N GA retired last year. The vet practice close to us has multiple vets, and hardly any of them knew about titer testing. They just say it's highly expensive and we should vaccinate our dogs regularly. I put them off for another year until I could research where I could get testing done cheaper, because it was about the same cost as getting the vaccines at my last vet. And she would put the titer date for the rabbies vax as well as long as my dogs' tests came back good.

My vet sent a text to me basically stating the DAPPV are core vaccines and are not separated. I mentioned I did not want more than one vaccine given should my great Pyrenees have a reaction as he did with the 3 year rabbies. I also stated I don't want him to receive non core vaccines. He is not around other dogs as he is dog agressive. She said these are mandated by the American Medical Hospital for pet protection. Since when? Basically she told me my dog will not be allowed for any treatment at the clinic without all there mandated vaccinations. Titer is $160 should I pursue this. She has also told me I need to give the toxic heart worm along with flea and tick meds. I asked if she can guarantee neurological problems which happened to my Bernese. I do not know what to do.

My dog had a severe reaction to the DHLPP vaccine years ago. The vet "guessed" it was from the Lepto portion but because they give those all at once, there is no way to be sure. Since then, I've been hesitant to give her any vaccines. I cringe every time they give me a print out at the vet because all the vaccines show past due. She is 14 year old Morkie with an enlarged heart so I don't think she will get anymore vaccines. Thank you for raising awareness. I had no idea as pet parent and have learned so much since I found your channel.

At 14 she has been inoculated plenty enough, please listen to your gut feeling and do not give her anymore vaccines! She does not need, at her age to have any more challenges to her immune system.
I will share with you as a pet owner my philosophy when it comes to our dogs, show dogs as well as rescues: we give the core vaccines as puppies, we do not give bordetella and certainly not give Leptospirosis, they get 1 booster then we titer around age 7 or 8 that’s it.
My oldest died last year, after a stroke, she was my 20 year old cattle dog. We feed our dogs raw or gently cooked depending on the dog. We do not use flea and tick medicine either and they have no fleas.
Good luck with your little dog, you are her best advocate!😊🐾🐾

    I'll repeat my story:
Adopted a rescued German shepherd dog, purebred. At 6 months we rescued her from a backyard breeder, her& brother were both underweight, huge swollen paws, bloody scabs all over. They both had demodex mange so bad, vet wanted to put them down. I said no, not without trying. I took the dog to Cornell University for ivermectin & her fur came back. Just before he 6th bday she was dx with myasthenia Gravis and secondary to that: mega esophagus. So far we know this dog does not have a strong immune system. Vet said no vax & I was happy.. even exempt from rabies. At age 13, I decided to titer the dog in April for rabies, only because I was curious as to her "protection " for rabies, knowing she's been vax'd for rabies in the past & we've stopped for a bunch of years. Titer test for rabies was very expensive.. something like$400 but I'm guessing. Took 6-8 wks for results.: she was still protected per results! Cool! Then in July of that year, a very large raccoon was under my deck, my shepherd was trying to get to the raccoon and ended up with some scratches on her nose. Vet told me we needed to vax her. I said, no we don't, she's protected! Vet said: "ehhhhh..". Vet scared me into getting vax🤬.I had checked with local animal control& no cases of a rabid raccoon. Needless to say, since I was scared into a rabies vax I stopped going to that Vet. I'm doing puppy vax & that's it. Titer test for me, waste of time and money! Thoughts??

I have a 10 year old Puggle. From when she was a puppy, up until she was 7 years old, my veterinarian's always gave her the combination vaccine. I just tiered her at 10 years old. Her parvo titer showed no protection. So it would seem to me that your "vaccinated for life" statement, doesn't always hold true. My actual question is this...a Puggle is 28lbs. If she has been getting the full vaccine same vaccine that they give a 100lb dog , then why isn't she vaccinated for life,as your statement would suggest? Are combination vaccines effective vaccines?
I had to mail order my own Parvo and administer, due to my vet only carrying combination vaccines. Titering again for Parvo this week. Thank you for your response.

My vet claims that there is no proven level of immunity for anything other than Rabies and therefore they can't accept titers for Parvo, distemper, etc. (My dog is only there bc he has to be sedated for grooming, which they require vaccines for. Trust me, we're working on an alternative to avoid this!) I know you mentioned that you're either protected, or you're not, and then Dr. Zak said that "as long as you're over that threshold"- my question is, what is that threshold and who determines it? Trying to get as much information as possible to go back to my vet with when this comes up again.

Recently had my dogs titers done for Parvo, cost me 85.00 in BC Canada.
Whats most ridiculous is if the dog requires certain vaccines, you can get it Monday, and Tuesday they're protected. Really bad thought processes there.
