Do you agree with Bret Hart's view of Goldberg? Let us know in the comments below!
No, i don't
Bret is the one that should understand that everything can happen in a wrestling show and it's most of the time nobodys fault. His own brother died there and everyone can get injured
@@jipsumies3435if you can’t see the difference between an accident and being under prepared for the job at hand than I don’t know what to tell you.
I love Goldberg's response to this incident. Fuck Bret.
Nope. Bret is a massive baby and needs to get over it. It's been like 25 years dude. Mistakes happen in wrestling. His own brother basically ended Austin's career, and do you see Austin whining? No, because Austin gets it.
If a single kick like that one was enough to end his career, then Bret probably shouldn't have been in a wrestling ring in the first place at that point. People take worse kicks than that one every week in WWE and AEW.
100% understood when Goldberg said he was done apologising to Bret.
"Getting in there with Bill. I can't get anything but hurt" - Bret Hart
Bret had EVERY right to refuse, and they couldn't break his contract for it; but he he grew up in wrestling when it was all about keeping their reputation, since refusing a match could get you blacklisted.
Never knew I needed to hear Bret talking in detail about his ring gear, but I guess I did, and it was brilliant.
It makes sense to wear gear that would help protect you.
That's the attitude that leads to a healthy career.
He brought up HBK to bury him for no reason Lmfao 😂
Lol it was marty jannety that injured the guy but he had to throw shawn in there just for the hell of it
Bret is a human slime. And would be a drag to talk to
That's all Bret knows how to do. He is bitter the business left him behind once 1996 came. No one cared anymore and whatever company he was with would lose the ratings. Dudes the biggest mark. He made his family take a photo with the hitman color gimmick 😂 and his hitman pink pool table. Canadian hero is a walking gong show

80 seconds in and I'm still counting the number of times Bret has used the word "safe." Even before Goldberg, Bret Hart was known as the guy who you could have a great match with and still be able to work the next night in a different town. Being safe in the ring is everything in wrestling. That and psychology. You can be a great promo, but if you're hurting the guys you're working with, you can't make money with them. Bret was an incredible storyteller, but the story could continue if necessary because nobody got hurt.
Not necessarily true. Bad news brown said he hurt him and Brown wasn’t a bullshitter
@@joetamburello6292 probably going to happen occasionally, you might slip performing a move or not quite execute it as you intended, I'm sure every pro wrestler did that once in a while. But Bret's legacy of being 'safe' is well documented and secure, he was supremely professional in that sense and many wrestlers enjoyed working with him for that reason who were probably bigger or less conditioned. Put on a hell of a match with Jean Pierre Lafitte and even Bigelow, for examples....
@@colingram8785 disagree
@@joetamburello6292Brown was also an extremely bitter prick who had an axe to grind with the Hart’s. Brown claims he a got mild concussion wrestling Bret in Stampede. For over 20 years the worst injury an opponent got wrestling Bret was a mild concussion. Huge difference from a guy like Goldberg who injured everyone he worked with.
@@Provos7777 Bret’s middle name is bitter
Bret vs Brock would've been the best of those three matches. Like-vs-like is a very counter-heavy story and Bret has already had plenty of those matches. He was the average size of most wrestlers back then in his heyday (Perfect, Shawn, Austin, Owen, Davey) and even the bigger guys back then (Yoko, Diesel, "Taker) were nothing like Brock.
"brets a crybaby" people will say. All hes doing is answering a question honestly. Hes not recording himself and bringing up goldberg constantly
Answers all questions with complaining.
Ask him about his first born and he’ll just complain about the hospital the bedding. The lights. Etc
He's already done that enough times.
I have always been a fan of the hitman. Watching his matches now makes me appreciate the energy he put into matches to make them the best possible.
2012 CM Punk vs 1996 Bret Hart Would Have Been Wild
Bret Hart and Bill Goldberg's segment with the metal plate is legendary
Bret is still the greatest in ring technical wrestler I’ve ever seen.
I agree. Easily top 3.
No that's Kurt Angle who is bigger, stronger, much athletic and can do more while having twice the charisma. Not to mention being a real, multi-award, gold medalist in ring technician.
@@hitek9too255 Kurt is also in the conversation, but he doesn't have Bret's knowledge of wrestling psychology. It would be incredible if Bret could have wrestled Kurt tho.

He broke Dan Severn’s neck with the same move he did Austin’s a couple years later.

Bret said it at the end. He does real wrestling. Thats why I liked him. He was a wrestling simulator
Don't forget that Owen hart never checked in on Steve after the injury. Didn't even call him once
A lot of people who knew Owen said he just felt to guilty. He should've apologized but I can understand fucking up like that and not knowing how to apologize.
He couldnt as
1. Austin didn't want to talk to him
2. Owen was under immense guilt
@@kirktuss4819You think that was Owen’s idea? That was definitely cleared with Vince & Austin before he wore that. That shirt was made to elevate their feud.
First off, Owen was known as a great worker & did not have a history of injuring everyone he worked with. He had a terrible accident once with Austin, unfortunately shit happens. Goldberg was well known for being dangerous to work with & he hurt everyone. Big difference
@@Provos7777 haha no jabroni. Goldberg was a great wrestler and great human being. He was a tough wrestler and good. Bret hart has been notoriously known for burying and complaining about every single body
Bret is 100% right here, again. Protect your opponent!!
What the Rockers did to the job guy is eerily similar to what The Cucamonga kids did to Alex Reynolds, kept going without regard for Reynolds’ safety and even worse, Matty and Nicky were hitting him with knees to his head after his head was landed on and concussed.
Bret hurt guys too. Ask bad news brown who never bullshitted
Lol OMG Are you serious? I know Bret's gotta a lot of ass kissers but this is too much!
- Rockers case, he even said the other wrestler hurt himself or was responsible for getting hurt! (And Rockers may have not been very experienced at that point) And let's say it, it was probably more a way for Hart to take a dig at Michaels, while from what I recall only, HBK had nothing to do with it.
- Owen HURT his ring partner himself, hurt him really bad, and is very lucky he didn't paralyze him, with one of if not the most reckless pile-drivers (or move) you could ever see in a pro wrestling ring! A day-1 student wouldn't have done it as bad, with all of Austin's head exposed and with him sitting down. It's like Owen wanted to injure Steve. Yet that bitter Bret tries to not only defend his brother, but make him look good, like the real pro and a safe worker!! GTFOH
Never even heard of the Chuck Austin Injury before, crazy how some stories just get lost in time but others like dlo/droz still feel so damn recent
Chuck. Austin?
It's crazy how people have either forgotten about this or don't even know it was a thing that happened. Chuck Austin was a former college football player and aspiring wrestler who used to run little shows in his hometown and had all of about six months actual training or legit ring experience. He drove down to a then WWF house show in Tampa Florida in December of 1990 and managed to talk the road agent or whoever into letting him work as enhancement talent in a tag match with Lanny Poffo against the Rockers. In the finish of the match he didn't know how to take Jannetty's Rocker Dropper and bumped forehead first on the mat with all of Marty's weight on his neck. Surprise surprise, he ended up paralyzed. Eventually the issue settled out of court for ten million and led to the WWF more carefully vetting the workers they used on an appearance basis to drop falls to their established talent and was at least an indirect factor in eventually starting the whole developmental system that came about later.
@@douglaspatrick868 I didn't remember his name but seeing it brought up made me think of the guy that got paralyzed.
Thats crazy because Brock looks the complete opposite of safe. Thats a testament to his artistry in the ring.
Yes and as bad of an asshole Brock is like him or hate him he only ever got stiff when other guys got stiff first everything about brocks wrestling arsenal is safe.
He never injured anyone he worked with, other than himself with that shooting star press.

I’m a retired professional motocross racer. _[that being said]_ the motocross boot is the stiffest, hardest, most unforgiving piece of footwear available… at Wrestlemamia 12, Shawn Michaels kicked Brett twice in the face with AXO motocross boots on _(the same kinda Boots Ricky Carmichael was wearing as a Pro Circuit/SplitFire/Kawasaki racer back in 1997)_
I used to think it was funny when they later showed up wearing alpinestars
Why would he be using real MX boots instead of some sort of padded type.
Bret v Brock
Bret v Angle
Bret v Bryan
Bret v Punk
Bret v Kane
Bret v Cena
Bret v Batista
Bret v Mysterio
Imagine the endless matches we would have had if bret was injured. People wanna talk about bret getting over what bill did, imagine someone hurting you and you losing millions. Before people open their mouths, they should try putting themselves in other's shoes.
I wonder if bret vs mysterio at WCW . Idk
I think Bret would have loved to work with Kane. He usually has strong opinions about anybody if they are the slightest bit reckless in the ring, but I don't think Bret has ever complained about the Big Red Machine. I think it's also a testament, since big men often don't know their own strength, and early 2000s Kane was about as strong as they come. Even if he were slightly reckless with his size and strength, he could have injured a lot of people. But overall, he is near the top of everyone's list when it comes to safe performers, which is really a testament to his skill.
I know he did have 1 match with Isaac Yankem, but that doesn't compare to what a full blown feud with Kane would have been like.
@@Tomas361TX unfortunately no
@@aspectra very true. Bret has gone on record saying he likes working with big dudes. Also yes in 95 Glenn Jacobs went as Isaac yankem. He had one match with Bret yes. If Bret had stayed in WWE in 98, no doubt we would have gotten Bret v kane, Angle, Edge, you name it, it would have been classics..
I don’t like how Bret is talking about how Owen didn’t hurt Steve more.. all do respect to Owen, but when he kicked out when Steve pinned him it hurt him even more
Accidents happen all the time in pro wrestling & how wrestlers react to those situations matter. Imagine if Owen tried to rush towards the ending instead of buying time for Austin to rest. Owen would have been to Austin what Goldberg is to Bret.
He doesn't need to shoehorn the fact that it was owens negligence into every conversation that broaches the subject. His feelings on owens culpability are well documented. It wasn't relevant to the point he was making here.
Watch the kickout in the match… it was an unnecessary and aggressive kickout and it worsened Austin’s injury. Yea Owen was better than Goldberg about it, but it’s disappointing and dangerous for him to do so. I just didn’t like how Bret acted as if that is proper protocol for similar incidents
Came here to say this. Austin was very pissed off about it, and he didn't hold back about it, either
I can agree with that.
If Bret's going to say Goldberg was an unsafe worker for kicking him in the head, He might as well say that Owen was unsafe worker for dropping Austin on his head as well, Owen also dropped Dan Severn on his head for real in one of his matches.
Getting dropped on your head is much more dangerous than getting kicked in the head in my opinion, Not that it makes what Goldberg did any better.
From what I heard from Austin, Owen handled what happened to Austin poorly.
He didn't even call Austin or check up on him to see if he was ok, At least Goldberg called Bret and asked him about his injury to see how he was doing.
Owen didn't even do that.
Owen not only broke Austin's neck but also injured Dan Savern's neck almost breaking it! Bret very convincingly tries to forget that.
Really? Dan Severn?
I'll have to see that match. Owen wasn't into excellence of execution like Bret, he was just "cash your check and go home."
Do you agree with Bret Hart's view of Goldberg? Let us know in the comments below!
I get it, He changed Bret's life for the worse and Bret ended up with all these health problems starting as a pretty young guy in his early 40s because of that kick. People get mad at Bret for talking about Goldberg but many guys from WCW have said that Goldberg was unsafe. I don't think Goldberg is a bad guy but it's not a real fight and he shouldn't have been allowed to keep hurting guys.
Why is Bret not an agent or a trainer like his dad?
He’s a master at his craft and has so much to offer wrestling especially in this day and age
Who wouldn’t wanna be trained by The Hitman
Who remembers bret hart always blasting rollins over being dangerous
brett hart is far from my favourite wrestler, but he is by FAR the best PERSON in the wrestling industry
every other "good personb" you can find dirt on or evil things they did, bretts the only person who seems to never have done anything wrong to anyone
and its sad that THAT is the reason he didnt get all of the things he deserved
I have always liked Bret but can understand why some don't or actively dislike him. He's very particular and I'm sure that's frustrating for someone dealing with him. Not a bad thing but something that can inevitably cause friction between people

lesnar broke kurt angles neck twice and marty turned chuck austin over on not shawn lol
Kurt Angle's neck doesn't count. He broke it before WWE, and it's been prone to injuries ever since.
not only that when shawn michaels jumped from the top rope to perform his finishing move you can see how careful he was, absorbing all the impact and barely if at all touching him. I love bret but hes being irresposible here with what he is saying.
I know that ppl say that Bret should "get over" what Goldberg did to him. Those people can't put themselves in his place for even 30 seconds--how would one handle getting a concussion that ultimately affected his/her livelihood? Or better yet, a debilitating stroke? Yes, accidents happen but Goldberg was known by his peers to be dangerous to work with. I have the utmost respect for Bret's professionalism and loved watching him during his active years--still enjoy watching his matches.
Well for starters I wouldn't be an idiot and keep wrestling and cause the end of my career then blame someone else for a mistake.
Protecting your opponents the true Holy Rule of pro wrestling.
On Chuck Austin:
1.) it was Marty’s finishing move that injured him
2.) the guy took that bump so bad granted it’s very sad what happened but he did hurt himself
3.) as soon as Marty did that move on him he rolled him over within a second or 2 there was no time to have a conversation saying his neck was broken.
Marty should’ve just pinned him. That move was his finisher there was no reason to jump off the top rope on him. It also doesn’t even look like Shawn touched him at all when he jumped off the top rope it makes sense knowing how good Shawn was in the ring
would have loved to see him work with Jake, Macho and DiBiase a bit more around 91-93 era. Shame Jake was gone before Summerslam 1992, as he claims they were scheduled to face there. He also claimed he was meant to face Warrior at Royal Rumble '93, and submit him to the sharpshooter (!). Not sure if that was legit or would have happened, but Bret vs Warrior would have been an interesting proposition, definitely 2 opposing styles. Bret vs Rude if Rude had returned at the end of '92 and Bret was champ would have been an excellent match too I reckon
Imagine Bret vs Kurt Angle Or Bret vs Eddie Guerrero🤩
For somebody who says they've patch things up with Shawn michaels.... he sure doesn't miss a chance to bury him whenever he can
This may seem stupid, but it's interesting to hear Bret talk about his gear. It seemed strange that he would wear trunks on the outside when he also had the singlet and long tights. Things must've gotten pretty hot down there if you know what I mean.
at this point i just watch bret interviews to catch all the times he buries goldberg LMAO
Theres a universe where Bret hails Goldberg as a great worker
Well some people just weren't super safe, someone the size of Goldberg with his intense moveset had a much higher base risk of hurting someone than most, even smaller guys with safer movesets like Owen Hart caused critical injuries, you just won't hear Bret mention that particular case whenever he complains about unsafe workers.
Tell that to Bam Bam, Yokozuna & Lesnar. Heck even Vader was more safe than Goldberg.
@@nbs0078 Are you serious? Yokozuna botched a banzai drop, which was among the only moves he had that actually required some coordination on his part and nearly killed a man with it, Lesnar broke Hollies neck, proudly reinjured Angles neck, injured A-Trains neck, and caused several concussions (even one to himself) and hardway bleedings during his career. Vader was legit the most unsafe high profile wrestler in western wrestling history aside from maybe Abdullah The Butcher, he was notorious for legit hurting people, he severely injured various jobbers, he even caused broken ribs and a ruptured spleen to a big star like Sting, which is why most high caliber wrestlers refused to work with him.
Goldberg meanwhile only injured Bret Hart once, and other than that he mainly injured himself, even Rey Mysterio caused more injuries than him over the years. I have no clue about Bam Bam, neither seen any of his matches nor know his movesets.
@@Triplebrc I'm aware that they're pretty unsafe aside from Bam Bam. I gave them as an example cause Goldberg makes them look super safe by comparison despite having the same if not more intensity than Goldberg.
@@Triplebrc Preach! Don't forget Mysterio killing a man during his 619 in Mexico.
Chuck Austin never drilled his own head in to the canvas. And being inexperienced, he expressed his concern about having the move done on him without being able to use his arms to break his fall. And not only did the Rocker turn his body over even though Chuck told him he was paralyzed, his partner then jumped from the ropes to body slam him for the count. He was awarded 27 million dollars (which of course was contested) but the good news is Hart got it wrong by saying he has been in a wheel chair ever since. He was able to learn to walk again.

This is the first time I've heard Bret mention Owen and Austin.
He has talked about it several times. More about the aftermath and Owen not reaching out to Steve afterwards. He attributed it to Owen’s guilt over the situation.
If you watch the clip where that guy got injured in that Rockers match, one of them went to drop a splash on him after the Rocker Dropper and didn't even touch him. So Bret is just being bitter here.

The only reason owen didn't touch scsa is because steve told him not to. Not because he was a safe worker. If he was he would've listened to steve austin and not do the piledriver to begin with.

I always wondered why Bret wore 3 layers of tights. I always assumed he was paranoid about someone pulling down his pants by accident if he just wore shorts. But I disagree him about his look. It's not outdated. I think Bret got it right. It made him stand out and when you combine that black, pink and white color scheme it was the perfect ring gear for the hitman. His look would be the same today since everyone's ring gear is either tacky or makes them look like an unprofessional idiot.

The person who suffered a concussion literally had their brain fucked up and has no ability to determine whether they can continue or not. That's why professional sports now have to have concussion protocols to keep players safe and are almost always extremely cautious about letting someone who took a blow to the head to do anything until they can show they are truly okay with a lot of testing and doctor opinions.
That all didn't exist when this happened to Bret. He had no idea how badly he was actually hurt and wrestling in those other matches likely made the injury even worse.
Oh I agree 100% how concussion protocols have progressed and Bret could not have known the severity of his injuries.
I think upon reflection all these years later, I think that side of the story is often glossed over. I understand his narrative completely blaming Goldberg back when the incident happened however knowing what we do now, I’d like to hear Bret talk about that.
If Bret came out and said look I carried on wrestling I diddnt know, wcw diddnt know, and presuming medically clear to compete imagine how many careers including my own could have been saved potentially. II think would probably be a fairer assessment now reflecting all these years later
Like you say if this incident happened now, likelihood he wouldn’t be medically clear to compete until fully healed and his career may not have ended
Fan of both these guys, but I think to blame it solely on Bill now knowing what we do seems harsh.
