It's a shame he wasn't put in more of a formal creative position once he was in less shape to wrestle consistently. He could have really helped HHH and Shawn Michaels with the post-Vince WWE.

Bob Backlund would try to do wrestling spots with guys like Hall and Nash. Neither of them was interested. They wanted to do short punch-punch-kick matches. They fed Backlund to Nash. He wasn't happy. They fed Jarrett to Nash. He wasn't happy. They fed Bam Bam Bigalow to Nash. He wasn't happy. Then they stopped trying to do singles matches with Nash and put him (as world champion) into tag match main events where Shawn Michaels would do most of the work. Nash liked that better. The tried to go back to singles matches with Nash vs Sid. But he wasn't happy. Then it was back to tag matches with Shawn michaels involved again. That made Nash happy.

I didn’t see much of Scott Hall when he wrestled but he describing how he handled working with Backland tells me that he really knew how to work a crowd/match and make the most of what he had.
I was there at the Baltimore arena at a house show called In High Gear, Dick Murdoch was there in Backlunds corner. The match wasnt quite bad from what i remember and i thought at the time that Dick Murdoch would be a permanent stay alongside Backlund, but he would never appear on television after that.
It's funny how they said that they would bury guys who couldn't work but they're best friend Nash got a pass. Nash was a tag team guy and was always paired with Hall or HBK. They had to hide him in so many factions over the years that he only drew money inside of a group. He should have been one of the guys that was buried.
Backlund was a pro amateur wrestler from the 70s. Bscklund had an excellent match with bret on raw he could def go with the likes of a bret , owen or shawn. Kevin Nash just sucked literally.
You didn't get the point. It was chemistry. Diesel could never have chemistry with Bob Backlund because he was old school. I would say Backlunds matches with Bret and Shawn were also boring. Diesel was an okay worker. He wasn't going to have 5 star matches.
Did Hall always look at everything strictly from a clique perspective? He kept really bad company in the business, between Nash, Waltman and Michaels. Those guys were blessed that both McMahon and Bischoff were easy to suck up to.
When i was a kid. WWE came to my small town to film a Raw in highschool gym. Shawn and Razor had (dark) ladder match. I didn't really understand significance at time (i was like 10) but it was cool. 2) i forget who double J wrestled but i remember being extremely impressed with his match 3) My friends did a pic with Bret for Raw magazine cover, as well 👍
I feel like every booker should watch Hulk Hogan vs the Iron Sheik. Hogan dominated until he crashed and burned against a turnbuckle, then Sheik dominated the rest of the match until it was time for the heroic comeback. As long as you keep the match short (Hogan/Sheik was reportedly 5 minutes, 40 seconds), you can make two guys with conflicting styles work by having a complete 180 offensive turnaround. Diesel versus Backlund might have been a steal if you tried to sell a PPV off of it, but it could have been a decent Raw main event.
Scott Hall was a special talent. Kevin Nash was just a big guy in the right place at the right time who played politics. But, Hall should have been the world champion and the main eventer. Hall respected the business and mastered his craft, respected the guys who paved the way, and was respected in turn universally. Hall was a great talent in ring, and he had natural charisma, and he worked to master his craft. I think he got caught up with the wrong people telling him the wrong things that were self-serving to the people telling him. But, why Hall was at the top of the mid-card and Nash was the main eventer will always be an irony to me because Nash was nothing special aside from being a huge guy and he did it the wrong way by knocking and trying to bury anyone viewed as a threat. 25 years later, he's mellowed and comes off humble on his podcast. But, think about it, why on Earth was Hall the test to pass to see if you could work with Kevin Nash when Hall was 1,000 times better in the ring than Nash. I don't see how promoters decided to go with Nash in the top slot either when Hall wasn't only better in the ring, but he had more charisma and also paid more dues and was more respectful to the business. All Nash had on Hall was a little size, and it's irrelevant because Hall was a big guy himself.
Nash was always known a big sexy the work rate killer. I’m surprised Scott didn’t have to carry him to the ring since he carried him in the ring and in interviews
I would love to know more about wrestling training trees. Because if you watch certain styles you will see certain influences. I always thought that Scott Hall threw a very similar punch to Stone Cold. You never know if that's something that they pick up just watching each other, or that something that has been passed down from generations. A lot of that stuff also has to do with how they ended up working a program at WrestleMania together. When you listen to the psychology during the shoot promos you can definitely hear Scott Hall selling to Steve Austin how they can go back and forth throwing punches and how well it's going to get over on the crowd.
The new generation of wrestlers couldn't actually wrestle. That's why they didn't like working with Backlund. You really had to know what you were doing to look good with Backlund.
This makes sense because Cornette said that Murdoch was in the company but the fans didn't know because the WWF barely used him (some House Shows and the Royal Rumble).

I think Hulk or someone saw his Australian gimmick and thought they could make money off it (toy and doll money). But they had never watched him wrestle. I don't know if it was Hulk Hogan or Vince Mcmahon or someone else. But someone made a big mistake. He had maybe wrestled 20 total matches before he got to the WWF. He just wasn't ready to be there.

Knowing way Vince thinks its obvious why chose Diesel, but even as a kid at the time, felt Razor should have gotten that run as champion. Better character,/performer, knew what to do, work with anyone, massive crowd support. Missed the boat, may have been diffrent on many levels if made that choice. Hall wasnt as messed up then, he was constant, good to great matches, on all the shows. He got the rub of working on screen with Macho Man, Flair, Heenan, Perfect, ted, all the last group of golden era to carry it on over to new generation. Anytime non fan would watch back then with me, theyd always say when saw Razor, that guy looks like how a man should if wrestled. Now when hear the mind he had for wrestling, just again, Vince really missed the ball with Razor Ramon in 95

I watched a Razor & Jerrett match live, Razor gave Jeff a fall away slam, when Jeff bounced off the mat with a roll & somehow went over the top rope to the outside...
Diesel was afound 6'10 with little actual wrestling skills. Bob Backlund was a big amateur style wrestler like William Regal was. They made the match so xrappy like a gut kick and a powerbomb. Nash would have been exposed as a beginner wrestler in a long match.

The Career of Bob Backland has to be one of the most bizarre in all of Pro Wrestling. How often does a company put the belt on a guy who no one has any confidence in? The guy didn't draw, no one really cared about his run, he left no impact as champion. As an in-ring performer, he's not even a footnote.
That's bcuz his style of wrestling was Burno era. A true wrestling fan can appreciate his style. His matches with Bret Hart was solid. But he was very boring and strange 😂
Most of Backlund's reign was likely to keep the belt from going to Zbyszko. The McMahons hated Bruno but he was still their top draw, they.would've put the belt on him but not on one of his made guys.

What do you think about his gimmick that was so off putting to you? Back at the time, pro wrestling by and large was more about believability and treating it like a real sport. Bob being a D2 wrestling champion carried himself like the serious athlete he was and his interview style was much that way.
The stories are interesting, but there's no way I could watch wrestling anymore after all the secrets have been divulged. The "entertainment" part of wrestling is pointless and over played. Soap opera for males.

I always thought Scott wrestled like a smaller guy. Scott was deceptively massive.

@therealanonyomous I don't doubt he was a good athlete but he wasn't marketable in later generations. Clearly he was a good mat wrestler but not a sports entertainer and I did see him on several occasions.

The Career of Bob Backland has to be one of the most bizarre in all of Pro Wrestling. How often does a company put the belt on a guy who no one has any confidence in? The guy didn't draw, no one really cared about his run, he left no impact as champion. As an in-ring performer, he's not even a footnote.
That's bcuz his style of wrestling was Burno era. A true wrestling fan can appreciate his style. His matches with Bret Hart was solid. But he was very boring and strange 😂
Backlund was a Wrestler, when to many people didn't appreciate Wrestlers.Although I have enjoyed the few matches I've seen of Backlund.
Most of Backlund's reign was likely to keep the belt from going to Zbyszko.
The McMahons hated Bruno but he was still their top draw, they.would've put the belt on him but not on one of his made guys.
@@amirpourghoureiyan1637 Seems like I've heard somewhere that VinceSr really liked Backlund and also liked the idea that Backlund had a legitimate Wrestling background. And Backlund has also said that he considered Vince Sr to be like a Father to him.

Hall would have made a great creative director. I HATED that guy as a kid. I grew up in S Miami with abunch of Scarface's 😂 anyhow, he has a great mind. Cool guy
Backlund was the only babyface that I hated as a kid, back in 80-83. Just did'nt like anything about his gimmick.
What do you think about his gimmick that was so off putting to you? Back at the time, pro wrestling by and large was more about believability and treating it like a real sport. Bob being a D2 wrestling champion carried himself like the serious athlete he was and his interview style was much that way.
He wasn't a gimmick. He was the real deal.
