After 2 years of driving for doordash I have been deactivated by doordash because of an alleged “fraud.” They gave me zero details of what the alleged “fraud” was. I appealed the deactivation which they denied. I can appeal in 90 days however, I am no longer interested in working for doordash currently.
i just started working for doordash yesterday, i am sorry to hear they did that to you. i made 26 dollars my first hour working yesterday but the next 2 hours were not so kind ended a 3 hour shift with 42 dollars. if you arent working with doordash may i ask what will you be doing then?
@@imjody All these fod delivery apps have one thing in common they don't care about the drivers! Us dirvers are the bottom dwellers, the sheep, and minions of the company. They only care about their bottom line which is their profits and the cheap non tipping scum bag customers that got money to order food but don't want to tip. These gig jobs offer no job security at all. You can be working for them for years and have good ratings and feedback and all it takes is a scum bag customer to call in and complain and one or two strikes your deactivated instantly! Happened to me working for UberEATS in eight days I got deactivated not to mention the app was always freezing so how do you expect me to do my job efficiently if your app doesn't work properly? Moral of the story get a real job lol!
Doordash needs to stop giving people the option of not tipping. They also should not allow $2 tips because if you can't afford more than a $2 tip, then you can't afford the luxury of having food delivered to you.
I agree. I am in my 2nd week of dashing and i am starting to think this is not worth it. I mean we drive to the restaurant to pick up your food and then we go drop it off to you sometimes bcz you’re too lazy to do it yourself and all you want to tip is $2 sometimes nothing. So frustrating. Ppl are so ungrateful
@@notyourfriend5899 treat this as a side gig, and be very picky with which orders you take. don't degrade yourself with insultingly low orders you won't be penalized for slipping bad orders . like the other day I went to the grocery store, while I was in the parking lot I signed into doordash to see what I could catch. ended up doing 3 orders and made 30 bucks for a little over an hour.. basically paid for my groceries and only drove like 10 miles. doordash is awesome if you don't treat it like a full job. have your main job, and do this for an extra 100-200 bucks a week
Agreed. I'm appalled at the tips that people are adding for Doordash. I had an order from the Cheesecake Factory and the guy tipped $1 dollar. On what planet is that OK? Who raised these people? Horrific.
@@BrokenCompass502 i saw a discussion online and i was shocked at how many ppl said. “We shouldn’t have to tip you. You got the job knowing you may not be tipped and DD already spays you so that on you”. Like seriously who the heck are these ppl not tipping.
@@notyourfriend5899 it's usually foreigners who come from a culture that don't tip. I doubt that is sometjijng an American would say, but it's possible.
Everyone! If you are tracking the miles you are going, you can write that off on your taxes and get the money for those miles! Just a heads up to anyone who didn't know that! Update (10/8/24): I’ve just realized SO many of you were asking if the app does it for you, no it doesn’t, but I’m pretty sure there are free apps out there that do track your mileage! So sorry for not answering sooner.
I hate the stacked orders where one customer was a cheapskate. It's punishing the customer who tips well by making them wait while you pick up the no-tip order
I agree but honestly it’s very minimal on the cheap ppl vs the majority. Door dash fees are going up, so this means tips will be dropping. Also don’t decline orders, let the timer run out. If u do this if acceptance rating won’t be affected. I maintain a 95% acceptance, 97% on time or early rating, I keep five stars constantly
Don't feel bad. When I started, I did an order for $7.50 with 18.6 miles of driving. It was that one delivery that made me pay attention to the mileage vs. payout.
I had a 21 dollar one. The most I've ever declined. But the destination was 10.5 miles from where my starting point was. I would be driving more than 20 miles. And I drive a v8😭😭
Contactless delivery was the best thing to ever happen to some people, they don't have to look you in the eye when they stiff you. Back in my pizza delivery days I rarely ever got stiffed because the customer had to actually see me as a human being and it's a lot harder for most people to do it to your face. Overall her advice is spot on. Accepting bad orders just encourages people to expect you to pay for the privilege of bringing them food.
I'm in a more upper class market and expensive pizza place and found the opposite to be true, almost like people felt bad for choosing contactless so tipped more, of course there are the few customers that tipped less or not at all for the reason you stated
Well, just tonight I received a contract violation for not delivering a “hand-it-to-me” order, last night! Of course they won’t give me the address but did give me his name. I didn’t work long last night so his name stuck right out. I just wish I could find out what the address is as I would really remember what he looked like and all. It pisses me off they won’t give it to me bc of course I gave it to him! I’m pretty sure he was at the college. And I had to dispute it and “give them the details”. I asked, how am I supposed to give you details when you won’t even tell me where I delivered to!? I probably could have told them what he looked like. Furthermore, they show me on the GPS as being at his address! I understand some people have taken pics of food and taken it back with them but this was a hand it to me. And when they come out I ask them if they’re waiting for an order and then ask their name so they can’t pretend to be the customer. I don’t think it’s fair they make us give this info if they clearly see I was there. When the customer states he didn’t recover the order, they should contact them if they did it through the app and tell them they have the driver at their location. I’m sure they’d hang up and probably not do it again.
It's best to not worry about tips or trying to calculate them, just don't accept orders under 6 dollars and that's only 1 dollar per mile. Great video though!
I do $1.00 per mile for most orders...EXCEPT orders going 7+ miles. Then I prefer between $1.75 and $2.00 per mile...mainly because of the mileage and gas used...both ways. Especially if the order takes me out of my zone, because Im not a Top Dasher. Dont really care about going for Top Dasher so Im limited to my zone so orders that take me out of my zone I want to get paid for the miles there AND back. Now maybe others dont do this but its what I do in order to maximize my time and make the most I can. Ive been technically signed up since about April 2020 but stopped for awhile as I was getting unemployment and I figured with me being high risk for Covid I should just take the unemployment and stay home. I restarted Dashing last August.
DD LOVES reading that all these people are falling hook, line & sinker for their grift that the Dadhers are blaming customers for hurting their wages. DD should be paying a living wage. Instead they have the biggest criminal enterprise going - OUR vehicle, OUR gas, OUR insurance, plus NO benefits whatsoever since they make you an independent contractor. In Europe they don’t put up with stealing from their workforce like that for one second. We’re so used to being slaves for pennies that we feel lucky to get these gigs that Jesus would send them to hell for. They’re sneaky, greedy, obscenely rich & it’s all legal. “Oh you might get deactivated!!!!” I dash myself! But I try to be so picky on what orders I take it’s ridiculous. I’ll do it until I get out of grad school & then at least be a slave for more money.
@@lkrause74 what you described in the very first part of your comment is exactly what I like to do, usually I only take orders if they're about $15 for 10 miles... Or more money of course, or if it's less earnings, then it has to be a lot less miles.
Just started on Friday, I hit accept on the very first order I got, thinking $9 was awesome. It turned out to be a 22 mile drive 😭 Sometimes you have to make mistakes in order to learn ! Great video!
I am top dasher and have a 98% acceptance rate 100% completion rate, over 1200+ orders and top Dasher for two consecutive months. I listen to your entire vid. Dasher who have a high rating in the acceptance category and also top dasher get to dash anywhere anytime even if its not lite red. The other benefit to accepting all orders is you will be prioritized to see top paying orders before everyone else but you need to accept all orders and be top dasher. Hope this helps your dash business.
Yes i agree with that if not they wouldn’t list those categories of ratings, only stupid minds think that do not impact. ..there is thousands of dasher out there and only high ratings will be received before you receive unless they’re busy …then those orders will be sent to the runner dashers
Yes I agree with you I am also a top dasher and it pays to accept all orders until u build up your status then you get most of the best and easiest orders with higher pay for less mileage. With great tips also. It’s a plus it just takes patience and time. You can not rush things when first starting out.
Good job but I'm getting great orders and finally seeing a profit doing this work by cherry picking the right orders. I was just like you accepting everything and realized I'm the guy getting screwed. The last month it's been great making money finally and maybe it's luck but I'm getting great orders and if I can't get online at anytime oh well when it's busy they always let me know. Stay blessed
Yup, I will NOT allow my acceptance rate to be that low... because you miss out on grabbing the bigger orders first. Like I got a $15 order to drive 3 miles. Why because my acceptance rate is well above the required amount, im a 5 STAR 🌟 RATING, and my completion rate is also at 100%.. I'm not missing an order because it's small or too far.... because usually I get an order before I even make it back to the starting point
The platform is beginning to create hourly base pay in certain regions and let me tell you its worth it and pays pretty well. Being part of new pilot programs on Door Dash is very lucrative and trust that they dont pick cherry pickers to take part of these programs.
I had an order that didn't list the mileage but did list the city which I knew ranged from 6.5 to 8.5 miles on a delivery. Once I picked up the order and see the real address....BOOM! 22 miles for $8.00. I called in and told them to remove this order and don't offer it to another Dasher unless they were going to pay them for an hour and the mileage. I asked the operator would they drive 44 miles and use up an hour of their time for $8.00....silence. They claim is the system and its algorithm, but I pointed out that a human wrote that algorithm and can make adjustments to the program...try again.
Just started DD 2 days ago and just for 7 hours worth of dashing I've made $189, not too bad but I firmly believe they need to remove the no tip option from the app, people need to tip, this is a luxury service
You're absolutely RIGHT! Tips are the difference in their Orders being delivered IF we stand our ground. Tips are usually about 55% of our gross income and make Dashing worthy of our time, vehicle, and phone.
I doordash and I make about 10 an hour but it's depressing because to me if you are ordering they should tip the driver whether it's cash or on card. If you can afford this luxury instead of cooking for free. Tip the drivers it's annoying
They entice you with very high paying orders like $30- 60 tip when you're new, few weeks in starts going downhill high mileage order they think $13 first 10 miles is high paying order cuz that's 20 miles cuz you're most likely gonna be out of your zone
@@macross7k Same for me. Well actually my rule is base pay plus three, so if there is no peak pay I will accept 7$ orders. But I generally only work when there is no peak pay when I am bored and just want to ride my bike. Hahaha
do you double the mileage it says on the order for the drive back to your starting spot like she said? for example: if the order says $10 for 10 miles do you consider that $1/mile or only .50/mile ?
The first mistake I made on my second dash. it was my first stacked order. I almost left a bag at the restaurant because I didn't read the receipt which said "2 bags" I was so focused on hurrying up and getting the order to the customer. luckily a fellow dasher was nice enough to run the bag out to me. Always check the receipts and make sure you have everything! Also I never accept orders under $7.00
This happened to me ystrdy. I was 5 minutes away from the customer and doordash called saying that the restaurant called them because I didn't have everything 😑 had to go all the way back to the restaurant and get the rest of the order. I WILL NEVER do that again - I will be checking line by line of the order BEFORE I leave the restaurant
I agree but I also noticed that there are some drivers that cherry-pick but will take $6 orders... So I guess it depends on the mood of the doordash driver some will only do minimum of seven to eight dollars and some will do a minimum of six
Doordash makes a lot of cash out of new driver's ignorance! (Including myself). That is the reason they do not train anyone. We learn fast though, after 5 days I got the hang of it.
Great video, door dash had me going 10 miles to a dangerous area from a highly affluent area I was so pissed cause the affluent area had a massive ton of restaurants, I said never again, but listening to your video has given me a new strategy to apply setting better boundaries and expectations in turn making more money with less stress, good luck on your door dash business 💖
@@koffiassogba7889 I got stuck in a drive THRU for an hour for an order that was going to take an hour, even after unassigning because there was no physical way for me to get the vehicle out of the drive thru lane but I picked up two more order offers by the time I got to the front which were being delivered a lot closer than the one I unassigned from and paid the same so it worked out. That was my only experience with a drive thru so far.
Oh God I hate when that happens! When you hang out in a hot spot area near a lot of upscale restaurants and you get an order to deliver to a crappy end of town and it's a long drive. Often no tip. But at least you do have the option to unassign the order.
It gets a bit more complicated as well with tips. You are correct that total - base pay is whether they tipped or not, but also DoorDash will hide huge tips. You can get a 7 dollar delivery (figuring out they tipped about 3 bucks), but upon delivery they could’ve tipped you 25 bucks. This exact scenario happened to me yesterday. The order said 8 bucks, and upon delivery it was 27.75. It’s not gonna be worth calculating. Just stick to your $/mile rule and hope you get lucky with a couple massive hidden tips. As long as it’s worth it before seeing the hidden part of the tip, it’s only up from there
@Tiffany Martin so when DoorDash presents you with an order offer, they will not show the entire tip if it’s large. For example the order may be 3.50 base pay, plus 25.00 tip… DoorDash will show you this order as 8 or 9 dollars (randomly there’s not a specific amount) so that people don’t jump on that order and scalp them. It’s to give everyone a chance for massive tip orders.
I wish I had watched this when I started last week. Doordash offer no new dasher training whatsoever, so these videos are good. I accepted some pretty crappy dashes because I thought you couldn't decline. I will try to be more picky now.
This is why DD is constantly turning over newbie drivers to deliver bs orders. My best advice is don’t be afraid to unassign long waits or low paying stacker or piggyback orders. You can go down to 80% delivery rate and to 0% acceptance rate just keep customer rating above 4.2 and will not be deactivated
U don’t get offers either tho lol I get barely any I won’t move for less than a dollar a mile I’ve even got a very few eateries I will not step in the door again and I know the traffic patterns so sometimes even if the mileage doesn’t seem that long it really will take a long time to fight the traffic there and back so I won’t take it.
This was by far the most helpful video I've seen.. thank you so much for all these tips I'm so tired of watching videos of people just jumping in and out of their car telling me how much they've made no benefit to that. You've given me real information thank you
Sounds like you really do have it figured out now. Good for You. I was making the same mistakes when I first started a year ago. When I finally figured out that DoorDash is merely a broker and we are contract delivery drivers , I started making good money. Think of it like an independent trucker, he is offered a load from a freight broker , as an independent contractor, you make the decision whether the offer will be profitable or not. If not, then of course you make the wise business decision to decline. Also remember that your time is worth something as well , I find that some of these retail stores will ruin an otherwise profitable day by eating up a lot of your time if you let them.
10 miles is up to you if it has a hidden tip my best delivery so far was a 16.25 for 12 miles but when i arrived early then the estimated time the home owner gave my a 40 cash tip on top. that 56 dollars on 12 miles
This was my first week. Went out 3 days and made all these "mistakes" Definitely a learning curve when it comes to dashing. I accepted an order last night and it wound up being 20 miles one way!!! I lost out big time with that one
Great tips. Thanks a lot. They deliberately don’t explain this stuff to you so they can rip you off for as long as they can. Even if it takes 1 wk for every new DD to figure this out that adds up to MILLIONS of dollars for them every single week.
I made all those mistakes. I was very confused the first time a second order was added. I wish DD gave a tutorial on the basics and if they do I missed it. Also your fingers are freakishly long and love your nails! 🌺
Yeah me too. They didn't send like a getting started video or anything. AND they didn't send my bag until after I was already dashing. Which whatever, but it still could have been a little more organized
@@janae7147 it was a compliment! I play piano and have stubby fingers. So itake time to try to compliment people on something every day. It's good karma. I'm sorry all you could say was I was weird.
I've been thinking about dashing. I like how you explained the tiping and base pay. Doordash is pretty much the only company I've ordered with since last year. In comparison with other companies, I have less issues with DD. But as a customer, your tips for potential new dashers helps me know how to best treat them as workers. I do the 20% tip and most of my orders are over $20-$25 (sometimes up to $50 unless it's groceries then it's much more than that). Mostly because I feel if it's less than $20 I can just go get it myself. Lol the miles thing makes sense. I'll keep that in mind as a customer until I start dashing.
“My acceptance rate is 15 percent” 😳😳😳 Girl you’re the ceo of dasher Edit: so after 8 months, my acceptance rate is 6% now 😂😂😂 and I’m pretty sure that it doesn’t affect anything
Thanks so much for this excellent video, very helpful! My first day .... my first job was a "stacked order" and I was very confused because the tutorial didn't explain how it worked. And you were absolutely correct....one tipped really well and one didn't tip at all. Thanks for all your great advice!
I feel like my first week I really need to accept a lot of orders even the unreasonable ones because it really helps me to learn what is unreasonable about them. And I have been learning a lot LOL but in the future I will feel sure because I took the time to feel it out. But it's definitely good to know that you have that ability and that right
@@ktthompsonful tbh just go to high orders and restaurants that are nowhere near hotspots and every six months put it on your taxes the miles the gas and stuff same as oil change and you will make cash but just wait near Mcdonalds or other places
This would have been so helpful when I started. I've had to learn the hard way and make all the mistakes you mentioned. Lol. Still learning. Thanks so much, great video!
My first month I was clowning myself hard. I didn’t know you could check mileage neither and I would take 18 mile orders for like $4. Man I was so dumb
Ive been DD for two weeks now and learned quickly to not take the 2.50-3.75 dollar orders. The only time I do now is if it is taking me back to the area i want to be in so it will pay for the travel time to get back to a hot zone, or its the end of my dash and its sending me the direction to my home.
The ones I automatically decline are the high schools. My first day I took all orders that came in and most of them were all to high schools and the tips were no where near 1.50. Stack orders suck also because I took a stack order and both people were already messaging me about their order when I haven’t even confirmed that I had picked up the order. Then when I do they want an eta. The eta is on the app so you can look at that yourself.
I never decline, I let the clock run out. Also make sure you get an app to track your miles, and save your gas receipts. We have to do taxes with door dash, they send the IRS a 1099, if you don't file you're risking getting in trouble.
Declining and letting the clock run out has the exact same effect. Doing that just adds 30 seconds each order to your waiting around time. Just decline its the exact same.
@@gsesquire3441 well when I let it run out my points don't change, but if I decline it immediately brings it down . It even tells you that. I'm just going by my personal experience
I think it’s important to go to big delivery zones maybe even more wealthy towns. You will get orders before you get back to your starting point. Also when I accept small tip orders I usually get higher tips after the small order and sometimes with small tips they will give you cash
Wealthy rarely tip well. It's a common misconception. But they realize they have to tip enough for you to come out to their remote mansion. Still not worth it in my opinion. There's no restaurants in those areas. Lose lose. And I never accept an order in the assumption of a cash tip. I can count on my 1 hand how often that has happened with hundreds of deliveries.
I do doordash as supplemental income. I work Friday night 5pm to 10 pm. Saturday and Sunday 10 am to about 7 pm. I make about 400 to 500 dollars during that time. I only take orders that pay 1 dollar or more per mile.
So you are making 17.39 hr x 23 hrs = $400 or $21.74 hr x 23hrs = $500 (then subtract 30-35% for taxes ($120/$150) >your taking home $280 ($400) and $350 (500). Then subtract your cars wear and tear/maintenance/cleaning and gas ($80 off each 3 day Dash) So then your profit is $200 ($400) and $342 ($500).
@@ChattyKathy3 I do it part time. I don't really focus on what I make hourly or anything like that. It's all supplemental income. I have a regular fulltime job.
@@ChattyKathy3 I think you forgot that when you do your taxes, you write off 58.6 cents PER mile. That's where you get your expenses back and then some.
Made almost 600$ my first week doordashing which was this past week. Not bad for 24 hrs of dashing within a four day period off and on. Made more money doing that than at my reg job which I get paid about 550$ a week. I’ve made all the mistakes mentioned in this video. One, accepting every order that comes through. I have some tweaking to do but believe I can continue to have success. On the down side are how people tip if they tip at all. In my spare time I like to go out rather if it’s to eat or to get drinks. I never leave a crappy tip. I always tip even if the person doesn’t have the best cs skills. I don’t see how people can purchase through door dash and not leave a tip at all.
@@crewdogz356af5 There was a man who ordered the whole Taco Bell and I had to find his apartment since he didn’t put that in just the street address and I go to find out no tip at all.
Don’t be silly. Just refuse the order. You do that you’re just going to lower your customer rating because she’ll give you 1 star. Screw her. Let her order from Dominoes.
I just started my third week with DoorDash and this is so insightful! I get so many orders for $2.50 which is usual base pay for where I live, which I have accepted because in my mind, I'm like, "well it's $2.50 I didn't have before" but this is good to know that my acceptance rate doesn't affect me getting orders. It's frustrating taking an order 13 miles from my starting point to only get $2.50 base pay and $3 tip. OR often times not even getting a tip for making the 6-10 mile drive. I wish tipping of any sort was mandatory because I'm sorry, but gas is not all that affordable right now. It's frustrating as someone who is trying to make some extra cash and being the person who is making the effort to drive so much, when you can't even leave me a tip worth the time and milage it takes to get to you. I will start declining these orders thanks to this video because my city isn't big population wise, but it is for how large of an area DoorDash considers it to be. Thank you for posting this!
Agreed it happened to me quite a few times..I just started 2 days ago..I accepted a Walmart offer said 5 bucks only a few miles away. Well I got there looked at it again and it was a stacked order. So I got 2.50 from each delivery, no tip. It was bs I had to deliver someone's groceries for practically nothing because it cost me that to drive there. I won't accept anything under 6, and it has to be only a few miles or less away. If it's 10 or over and it's like 3 or 4 miles I'll take it. I won't do Walmart ones though anymore. I found out people won't use spark because they have to pay more..so they found a loophole to screw people over using doordash because they don't have to tip you. But they for 2.50 they can walk their ass to the store and get it themselves. I find those type of people to be scumbags. Idc I'll say it and point it out. When asked why I declined, I say because 2.50 isn't worth my time or gas, and if they can't tip they can Shove it. I'm sick of people wanting everything for practically nothing.
Yesterday was my 3rd day of DD and they snuck a double order on me that did not pay well considering it was 2 orders. I was so confused at what was going on and almost left both orders at the same business. When I confirmed the order I then realized that there were actually two delivery stops and had to go back and get it. Pretty embarrassing. IMO it can be dangerous for us drivers to try and look over a new order coming in, while driving. So yes, DD is being sneaky and slipping combined orders to us knowing that we're probably on the road driving and not paying close attention to their popup orders.
I had a customer who never tipped and I'd delivered to about 5 times. He would always have me hand his order through either his ground floor bedroom or living room window. On this 6th deliver I delivered to his living room window. The room was dark but i could make him out in the dark on his sofa and recognized his voice. Delivered, no photo obviously. The next day I get a Contract Violation claiming I didn't deliver his order. To say I was pissed was an understatement. I called into Door Dash, filed a dispute on this claim, and decided to go get some photographs. His two windows are always open. As I approached the bedroom window during daylight hours I could see inside, same with the living room. On the sofa in the living room sat the bag I delivered his order in. I took pictures from outside and even called to him. He answered "Yo!" from his bedroom, but I couldn't see him. I asked him why he lied about his Door Dash order not being delivered....silence. I let him know I had photographs and would be submitting all to Door Dash AND the vendor for his food. I asked Door Dash to remove his address from being assigned to me. A week later...Michael B showed up on a delivery AFTER I accepted it. I delivered it. Short distance $4.75...actually had a small tip. Door Dash must be willing to FIRE customers to protect Dashers. The Contract Violation was finally removed, but it took a long time. Door Dash MUST act as our collective advocate. If Door Dash discounts a delivery for a customer, then this DOES NOT allow them to discount our services as contractors. I never agreed to such things. DISCLOSURE: Door Dash should be disclosing the service fee and tip BEFORE we accept or decline, this includes stacked orders by individual orders. Without this information, this disclosure, it makes it difficult if not impossible to know whether the order is worth our time and expense. By the hour option gives you the least amount of information. This is to slide bad orders by the Dasher. Door Dash will always make their money, but how they intentionally fail to fully disclose pay info upfront is their crime. The new contracts are doing all they can to take your rights away and make it more difficult to hold them accountable. They even try to eliminate our ability to participate in Class Action Lawsuits against them. I will also note that with all their most recent software updates and the problems we experience from this including not actually getting a chance to accept or decline an order, those numbers count against us. I also took every order in the beginning. Now I decline orders, that don’t pay. But when your percentage goes down to 50 , they stop givin you high paying priority orders.
I have definitely seen 2.25 maybe even 2.00 and I'm thinking to myself like seriously they allow that small. When I first started I thought orders only went as low as 3.00.
My first stacked order came from a Walmart and I didn’t realize it. First stop was an apartment building with the apartment being on the 3rd floor, and I had to make 4 trips up and down. You think they tipped? Nope. And then the second stop was another 6 minutes and they didn’t tip either. I said never again
Man that sucks, sorry that happened to you! That’s some shit that would very well piss me off. The other day I had a pickup (nobody else was accepting) and the damn store wasn’t even in a 300 mile radius! The store had either shut down, it was a fake joke order, or the name was wrong. Either way I was upset about it driving around looking for the damn restaurant that wasn’t nearby
You’re right on the money Emily, stack orders are straight crap most of them and it seems like nobody wanted and they just try to stick on us making it seem that is worth it . Great vid
I worry about acceptance rate so I can be Top Dasher. I missed Top Dasher one month and every dollar I made that month was a struggle. I only want to dash as a Top Dasher
Speaking of peak times, I find that smaller areas generally have a higher peak pay. Everyone wants to dash in the larger areas to get more orders, but it also means more competition for orders. A small town 20 minutes away almost always has peak pay of $2-3 during busy times, with deliveries being 1.5 to 4 miles and not too much traffic. While a city 30 minutes away never really goes above $1-2 and you will usually spend a decent amount of time in traffic, which is a waste of gas and slows down the delivery. It's very beneficial to keep an eye on which zone gets a higher peak pay more often and stay away from very busy cities.
I live near a small town with 24 hour $3 peak pay. I have tried dashing there and I usually get a good paying order and then sit for 1 hour with no orders. It is better for me to go to the larger city. I will make more per hour than the small town. I do however check the app as I drive through the small area. If it is red I will dash and wait 10 - 15 mins to see if I get an order.
I think it's really just based on the amount of drivers vs. orders they think they will have during that time. So that could be any size city, depending on the # of drivers. In my zone we rarely ever get peak pay, while the zones around Atlanta frequently have it (but I'm not going to deal with that)
I’ve had a few good stack orders, it’s always tricky calculating all that on the fly while you are driving. It’s nice when they are all on the way to the last one.
Oh for certain, but "technically" we are allowed to cancel one in five orders to stay at the 80% completion rate. But as I only accept orders that pay well I will generally do every order I accept. However, sometimes I will arrive and they will claim to not have gotten the order (meaning they ignored the tablet) and tell be it will be 20 minutes. Unless it is a massive tip I will cancel on that. Counting time to get to the resto, and then the time to delver that could mean 35-40 minutes on a single order. That is just not profitable.
For all of you commenting about declining orders. Please realize that most of the cheaper orders are either disabled, elderly, or students that cannot afford to tip which is why the order is worth less money. I never decline an order and I average $25- $30 an hour.
I hope what your saying is true for sure buddy but im sorry when I deny a no tip order and another order comes in seconds later I'll gladly just wait a few extra seconds so I don't end up in the same boat they are in money wise. If its super close I will take it if we are not to busy but no chance im driving 14 miles for no tip. No chance
I agreed with you last Saturday I did like 2 hours on 3 delivery and only earn like $18.00 because of the distance but then I move location and made like $25 in 1 hour for 3 people and the where smaller distance delivery’s and it’s was for workers also I made more money with smaller pay and short time than a hot zone area
I just joined dasher. And all the videos except this one are like not real people. This was very helpful. I just started college again. Covid put a hult on that but I need money so door dashing. Thanks again for the vid!
Thanks so much for sharing, it was my first time door dashing & I’ve experienced similar mistakes lol. You’ve helped me learn from my mistakes, because within my first time I’ve received orders that were far away & I didn’t know how to decline or even know if I can customize my deliveries for example to dash in closer areas 😅
I do doordash and ubereats. One thing I've learned is I don't accept orders unless the pay is at least $3 more than the mileage. When I first started I thought doordash cared about the acceptance rate like ubereats and I made the mistake of accepting $3 orders. Never again!
I didn't think I'd have a problem with not getting a tip. There's times i go out of my way for the customer. Not thinking anything about it. I realize that I'm annoyed with ppl who have nice expensive homes can't even tip u a dollar. It's just ridiculous. Anytime someone don't answer my text or call. I feel they aren't going to tip.
I often find that whenever I get an add-on order, there is absolutely no tip. What you see is what you get paid, so unless the delivery is in the same complex/neighborhood, I decline them.
I have heard of people getting deactivated because they decline so many orders that Doordash basically terminates them since they only want high paying orders. Even people in it for years are getting deactivated because even though you cannot see your declined order rate, Doordash can. If the low profit orders are close, as in within 1.5 to 2 miles you should still take some because they will be quick and it lets Doordash know you aren't one of those people. If you want to terminate contractors you terminate the ones making the most money. New people will take those lower paying deliveries and Doordash knows that.
@@timothywilkins5261 Sorry I thought you meant something else, however in my two weeks of working for doordash, this Reddit link was really helpful as it told me where to see the location before accepting an order. Source: www.google.com/amp/s/amp.reddit.com/r/doordash/comments/erf4lt/is_there_a_way_to_see_location_before_accepting_a/
It really depends on your area. I live in a small town in Quebec, my biggest trouble is always not receiving enough orders, so my acceptance rate is around 85%. If I try to be picky about what orders to accept, well, I would end up wasting hours just sitting in the parking lot.
I don't think dashing without peak pay is a mistake. I schedule myself even if its not peak pay or busy. I get orders ranging from $6 - $11. I believe that high paying orders are dependent to where you are located and how close you are to hot spots.
To be honest .. this video was more helpful than the people who post videos and look like professionals and spend way too much time editing there video like thank you bro
You know you can drop one of the stacked orders right ? I had one order for two restaurants that are opposed side of the city ...one order he tipped on(which was close by ) and the one far away he didn't tip on ..so I dropped the one he didn't tip on and far away and took the one close by with tip and delivered it :)
That will get you deactivated eventually. Once you've accepted an order it's best to try and complete it unless it's excessive wait time or some restaurant issue because it will affect your account trust me I've gotten warning emails telling me they'll deactivate me if it's too low which I used to drop orders like crazy during the pandemic .
I just started dashing last week. So far it's been okay. But I'm learning some of the deliveries are a little unrealistic. Some restaurants take forever to get the order ready. A few times i have been late because of it. Plus I need to start declining some orders. Cause they are low fare to short time to get to the location.
Interesting except #5. In some areas like mine san gabriel valley CA. Peak pay only available 12am till 5am.. None wants to work that. I work 10am to 5pm daily and average 150 a day on 100 miles and avoid the nights. Every city and state is different. But keep up the good work
The peak pay think isn't always true, I started door dashing recently and here in Phoenix they offer more peak pay overnight than when it's really busy. Peak pay seems to be used to have drivers on the road when there is less demand and the orders are smaller.
Very true. I find that there's way too many drivers out when the peak pay is really high therefore not as many orders to go around. Also depends on what time it is, as you said, later at night it's slower. When the peak pay is high like $4 or more, sometimes I go to another zone close by that has less or no peak pay and do really really well. Maybe my logic is flawed but I don't do well when the peak pay is high.
What I’ve also noticed to is that if I get a $3 order I also get a cash tip the majority of the time I get the tip of $5 which I don’t mind. But! I usually don’t get the low batches.
I made the same mistake by accepting every order when I started too, but it was with uber eats🤣 Sometimes you will get a rip off order. I had one where it was about $8 for like 40min duration & I believe it was like 11miles away. It was also a double order they were definitely not tipping. If I accept that order I would've been driving for free. I declined it & got an order that was like $11 right after for way less time and miles to drive. I decline all orders bellow $6 & of course depending on how far the trips is.
I got an order sent to me one that was going 9.5 miles and only paying $5.75. I was like hard pass!! Would anyone else take it? I was like im insulted. It wasnt even paying $1.00 per mile. And sadly in my area I havent seen peak pay during daylight hours for nearly a year. Its generally from midnight to 5 am or 5pm to 9pm ...when I dont want to be dashing because its dark and I have poor hearing in one ear and that plus dark = bad scenario for me.
I would take an order like that only if two conditions were met: Orders were few and far between and if I was driving my electric car. It would still pay.
it seems like they just don't give peak pay for morning/daytime dashers and that's not fair. it gets busy in the afternoon and we could use an extra $3. also, that $1 peak pay seems pointless to me
Man, I’m living the dream compared to some of you. Well so far, I only started today :P I live in a smaller coastal town. So far, only the fast food restaurants have DD, and all of my drop off’s are almost ALWAYS under 2 miles and over $8 - my best of the day was 8 minutes, 1.1 miles, and almost $13!I agree with those who think this is a far better side gig. I would really dislike trying to make this an everyday thing. But for my area, and treating it like a side gig. So far I really like it… reminds me of the drug dealing days from my youth 😂
and it's perfectly legal!!! I had one yesterday..delivered from the restaurant, walked kitty corner across to the 19th floor of a high rise. Paid 11.50.
I just did a dash last night that was $5 figured it was a $2 tip…when I hit complete order there was no tip. I didn’t go far it was only maybe 2 miles…and not peak…not sure why base was $5 not that in complaint. But the person leaving no tip for an $80 order was kind of grimey. Order was there quickly
My first two days... I wish people would turn on their outside lights so I can see the address! AND if it's at a business, state the business and not just the address.
Give UberEats a shot! :)
That's terrible... How could DD do that? Maybe your account was hacked? Hope something better works out for you.

All these fod delivery apps have one thing in common they don't care about the drivers!

Stride is a great app to track miles!
Just I don't want to put unnecessary mileage/wear and tear on my car
You should also be able to write off your phone and insurance as a deductible. Anything you have to use for business you can write off.
So can you track the miles by using the app
How do you track it... For free?
I hate the stacked orders where one customer was a cheapskate. It's punishing the customer who tips well by making them wait while you pick up the no-tip order
EXACTLY!!!
Fr!! Feel like canceling their order and apologize to the actual tipper for the inconvenience
that is the truth.
Accepting $3order at any milage should be done because we getting adjustment at end of week .dasher should be done
It was that one delivery that made me pay attention to the mileage vs. payout.
Same here !!

So true
I'm in a more upper class market and expensive pizza place and found the opposite to be true, almost like people felt bad for choosing contactless so tipped more, of course there are the few customers that tipped less or not at all for the reason you stated
That's a fact!
I agree. I once got a 3.50 order. I declined. 2 minutes later same order came in as 4.50. I declined. Then it came in at 12. Accept.
Para tells you the tips. I like accepting $7+ l make $900-1500 weekly. If l accept 6 it’s under 3 miles.

It shows miles before you accept.
Very good
Just started DD 2 days ago and just for 7 hours worth of dashing I've made $189, not too bad but I firmly believe they need to remove the no tip option from the app, people need to tip, this is a luxury service
Base pay is really low.
What market are you in?
They entice you with very high paying orders like $30- 60 tip when you're new, few weeks in starts going downhill high mileage order they think $13 first 10 miles is high paying order cuz that's 20 miles cuz you're most likely gonna be out of your zone
I never accept order under $5 my acceptance rate is 39% I also make sure I’m getting $1 a mile too.
For me, I don't accept under $8. Anything less is not worth it.
@@macross7k Same for me. Well actually my rule is base pay plus three, so if there is no peak pay I will accept 7$ orders.

Can they suspend your account for low acceptance rate?
Mine is going down too
Oh my God, my acceptance rate is 5%.
do you double the mileage it says on the order for the drive back to your starting spot like she said? for example: if the order says $10 for 10 miles do you consider that $1/mile or only .50/mile ?

Oh God I hate when that happens! When you hang out in a hot spot area near a lot of upscale restaurants and you get an order to deliver to a crappy end of town and it's a long drive. Often no tip.
But at least you do have the option to unassign the order.
@@danibymost5081 terrible I hope things get better 🌸

Yes this would have been helpful when I started a well. I've had to learn the hard way and make all the mistakes mentioned. Lol. Still learning
Thanks for the advice!
I usually have to take a bullshit order to start to get the orders rolling
Thank you for helping me tighten my game with any food delivery app.
Why mention her fingers are long? That’s strange
I have made all these mistakes and still learning. Great video!

I don’t think you realized how much this helped me😭
I never decline, I let the clock run out. Also make sure you get an app to track your miles, and save your gas receipts. We have to do taxes with door dash, they send the IRS a 1099, if you don't file you're risking getting in trouble.
@@GaryDisciple it's called Driversnote

Look at ur acceptance rate n you will see
Declining and letting the clock run out has the exact same effect. Doing that just adds 30 seconds each order to your waiting around time. Just decline its the exact same.

The wealthy city near seat me is an hour away. Is it ok with doordash if I dash in a city far from my city?
I do doordash as supplemental income. I work Friday night 5pm to 10 pm. Saturday and Sunday 10 am to about 7 pm. I make about 400 to 500 dollars during that time. I only take orders that pay 1 dollar or more per mile.
So you are making 17.39 hr x 23 hrs = $400 or $21.74 hr x 23hrs = $500 (then subtract 30-35% for taxes ($120/$150) >your taking home $280 ($400) and $350 (500). Then subtract your cars wear and tear/maintenance/cleaning and gas ($80 off each 3 day Dash)
So then your profit is $200 ($400) and $342 ($500).
I had a two time no tip customer and if i ever get her again, im leaving the food about 50 feet away from her door to she has to walk to get it.
Lmao at least it wasnt the same lady up on the 3rd floor and still NO TIP. Thats what happened to me lol.
I agree, having your food picked up and delivered is a luxury. Every delivery should have a $5 minimum.
my acceptance rate is 11% lol I don't accept nothing that's not $8 or above
Some great info here Emily! Yes, those stacked orders are when dd shows their skills at being sneaky and deceptive.
Hi Emilee I just started doing door dash 2 weeks ago and your video is really helpful. Thank you very much, stay safe and Gbu ❤
I also took every order in the beginning. Now I decline orders, that don’t pay. But when your percentage goes down to 50 , they stop givin you high paying priority orders.
Hi. Have you noticed they try to sneak in stacked orders at the same restaurant for $2.25 lol?
I’ve definitely declined a bunch of those lol

Thanks for the video. I just started doordashing and got a lot out of your video. Thank you 👍🏻
Speaking of peak times, I find that smaller areas generally have a higher peak pay.
If it is red I will dash and wait 10 - 15 mins to see if I get an order.
this is very accurate just move from city of 50 k to one of 300k big is worse on all fronts and rarely has peak
It’s nice when they are all on the way to the last one.
completion rate is also important always try to finish any order you accept unless the restaurant is closed when you get there
Oh for certain, but "technically" we are allowed to cancel one in five orders to stay at the 80% completion rate.
Great video! Just found your channel. I'm new to door dash and have so much to learn. It will be great to see you grow your channel.
I prefer dashing without peak pay because I get more orders and can be picky.
Girl you look done with life in general after having to deal with Doordash's shit your first month. Relatable.... SUBSCRIBED.
No chance
If they can't afford to tip door dashers they should go pick it up themselves or cook at home. We all know they are at the food bank constantly.
I agreed with you last Saturday I did like 2 hours on 3 delivery and only earn like $18.00 because of the distance but then I move location and made like $25 in 1 hour for 3 people and the where smaller distance delivery’s and it’s was for workers also

I do doordash and ubereats. One thing I've learned is I don't accept orders unless the pay is at least $3 more than the mileage. When I first started I thought doordash cared about the acceptance rate like ubereats and I made the mistake of accepting $3 orders. Never again!
I wanna try Ubereat. How is it? It AR matters for uber driver so I gonna get deactivated soon. My doordash AR is like 20%

I did my first Dash today and didn't look at mileage AT ALL!😳
No bad far af locations tho. Thanks for this video. 🌺
I made that mistake my first day too! I didn’t even know you needed to look at mileage.
I often find that whenever I get an add-on order, there is absolutely no tip. What you see is what you get paid, so unless the delivery is in the same complex/neighborhood, I decline them.
Its 9pm to 4am in my area. I have poor night vision so I wont deliver at night anymore.
Doordash is China owned, I would be very hesitant to work for a company like that, seeing how they treat their workers over there.
My dad taught me to have a blacklist of houses you don’t want to do and then decline them when you can see the address.

It really depends on your area. I live in a small town in Quebec, my biggest trouble is always not receiving enough orders, so my acceptance rate is around 85%. If I try to be picky about what orders to accept, well, I would end up wasting hours just sitting in the parking lot.
Same here

I don't think dashing without peak pay is a mistake. I schedule myself even if its not peak pay or busy. I get orders ranging from $6 - $11. I believe that high paying orders are dependent to where you are located and how close you are to hot spots.

YOURS is the BEST advice ever!! Thank-you!!
You know you can drop one of the stacked orders right ? I had one order for two restaurants that are opposed side of the city ...one order he tipped on(which was close by ) and the one far away he didn't tip on ..so I dropped the one he didn't tip on and far away and took the one close by with tip and delivered it :)
I drop them sometimes, gotta keep the completion rate high.
Oh My God. I love your hands, Emily... Great info as well!!!
She has similar hands to Barbara Streisand.
I just started dashing last week. So far it's been okay. But I'm learning some of the deliveries are a little unrealistic. Some restaurants take forever to get the order ready. A few times i have been late because of it. Plus I need to start declining some orders. Cause they are low fare to short time to get to the location.
Wouldn't even pay attention to the expected delivery time
@Audrey Price thanks but I gave up Doordash for instacart. I like it a little better.
Interesting except #5. In some areas like mine san gabriel valley CA. Peak pay only available 12am till 5am.. None wants to work that. I work 10am to 5pm daily and average 150 a day on 100 miles and avoid the nights. Every city and state is different. But keep up the good work
Gracias. Grate video I am on my 3 day Doordashing and this is very, very help full
I've decided to do this. I'm in central Phx, what is your pay average?
What I’ve also noticed to is that if I get a $3 order I also get a cash tip the majority of the time I get the tip of $5 which I don’t mind. But! I usually don’t get the low batches.
I usually decline anything under $5 unless it is a slow time but no more than 3 miles if I do accept it.
Was my first day yesterday and I didn't know anything going in. Did a 3 dollar order for 40 min of driving lmao kill me
I just signed up for doordash and this was helpful. Thank you 😊
I got an order sent to me one that was going 9.5 miles and only paying $5.75.
Anything under $6.5 doesn't exist to me. I push for $2 a mile plus. Gas is expensive! Decline garbage orders all day and all night!
it seems like they just don't give peak pay for morning/daytime dashers and that's not fair. it gets busy in the afternoon and we could use an extra $3. also, that $1 peak pay seems pointless to me
If it was right on my way back home for the day
Man, I’m living the dream compared to some of you.
The exact same thing happened to me, people are rude and disrespectful.
My first two days... I wish people would turn on their outside lights so I can see the address! AND if it's at a business, state the business and not just the address.
