I've only done 880 deliveries but I know where I need to be. I don't deliver over 4 miles, nothing less then $6 minimum, $2-$3 per mile, I don't go to certain restaurants I know are consistently slow. My payout has been consistently between $35-$40 an hour.

I love how you’re trying to help everybody make money! Way to go brother! As a five year Dasher in Tulsa, I have two things to add. Number one…be picky top dasher isn’t worth it it’s all about the money! Number two…Everything is run by an algorithm, if you accept small orders you Let the algorithm think that it’s OK to pay us less! If you do not except the small orders they will get bumped and Price because they HAVE to be delivered, be patient be picky!

Yeah, I agree. This is why you have to establish your zone and Dash ALOT in it. Because beginners won't have access to this kind of knowledge. It takes time and experience before you have enough information collected that will allow this kind of decision making. I started off (about 10 months ago) driving the wheels off my car and coming home with $60 dollars to show for it. I'm now in the $140/ $150 range - but like I said, I didn't get there overnight.

When I started dashing I tried all the zones in the Dallas area to see what the best one was for me. I'm now only dashing two zones on different days now that I have figured out which ones are more lucrative depending on the day and events. I'm breaking 200 at least once a week and 150 the rest of the time. My out of zone orders are almost always high dollar with likely high dollar pickups out of zone for the return. Know what is in your zone and the surrounding zones.

For me, I take 4 big things into account when I am selecting which orders that I take. 1. The Payout (obviously). I only accept orders that pay out AT LEAST $7.00. 2. The Mileage. I live in a larger market, and I also drive an older less fuel efficient vehicle, so I only accept orders that are paying at least $2.00/mile. 3. The Merchant. Is it a merchant that is typically slow? Does this merchant tend to have the food ready on time? How busy is that merchant on that given day? If the merchant is going to put me behind, then I am not going to bother with the order even if it meets my other parameters. 4. Where is the actual dropoff location? My town has a military base, so I obviously want to avoid that like the plague. Is it going to a sketchy neighborhood? Do you have poor phone service in the dropoff area? These are the 4 main factors that go into my decision making when I decide if I am going to accept or decline the order.

    • @gagemadrid8684
      @gagemadrid8684 2 ปีที่แล้ว +14

@@mamafylees3344 Nope!! The only ratings that matter are your completion percentage, your on time, and your customer rating. You're acceptance rate literally doesn't matter. They try to convince you that it does with their "top dasher" designation. Only take orders that are profitable, as you are investing your resources (your vehicle) for a financial return.

The thing Door Dash has started doing in my markets is piggybacking a low ball order onto a good order. Sometimes if I am driving I don't notice there is a second order before i accept. They aren't revealing that second order right away. That makes it more difficult to stay on goal. My orders have gotten much better since i have followed your advice. I am averaging $25-30 now on weekends. I am still having trouble doing that on week days though but hey i am new. I have only delivered 250 orders. I'll get there.

  • @joelb1299

Right on. No orders out in the sticks, especially at night. Also consider what restaurants are stackable. For example, if you're in peak dinner hours, then give less weight to McDonald's orders when you know you could potentially pull stacks if you grab an order somewhere else. This video was spot on. I know there are a lot of $10-12 orders that I kick back into the system. Not because I wouldn't like to have the money, but they waste too much time or I know they will be a headache. If you're uncertain, throw an order out. So many times you'll see a better order come in right after it, and you'll be glad to held out for one you wanted to take.

    • @thencarolinaman1934

The two worst orders are the ones that only pay 3-4 dollars regardless of distance, and the "nice" orders that take you way out of your zone, where you have to drive almost the same amount of miles back just to get orders again. I only take those piddly orders if they're combined with a good one. I sometimes take the high-mileage ones if they're above $15 and depending on the time of day/how much I've already made. I have an electric car so at least there's no gas to worry about.

Here's what works very well in my market. I like taking a mix of short and long distance orders. For short distance orders $6+ for less than 4.5 miles. You stand a good chance of getting a double order. So, if you get 3-4 orders an hour doing that. There's $18-24 right there. For long distance orders, nothing less than $10 for a single. And, nothing less than $12 for a double. Still clear about $150 on average for 6-7 hours worth of dashing.

For example; last night one hotspot was Taco Bell. I did not accept those orders because the pay was under my acceptance price. But another common place was not a hotspot but quite a few orders came through and so I stayed in that area. I know at the end of the day the hotspots are not necessarily pay worthily. Lol

You are spot on. When I dash I try not to take an order of less than $7 and it also has to meet my $2 per mile ratio so if I get an order that's $7 and the miles is 4, most of the time I'll toss it back because that means that for $2 a mile, 4 miles would equal $8 not 7 and I don't be playing any games. I also work a day job, so the miles that I dash in the evening I refuse to let exceed more than the miles that it takes me to get to work and get back home each night which equals to 30 miles. I refuse to dash more than 5 miiles out past where I live. Luckily for me I live in Los Angeles so at night the orders are large and very busy and I can make $100 to 150 very fast and still not go over a 30 mile drive. To have strategy is where it's at. Also if for example: I take an order that's 10 or 13 dollars & I get to the restaurant & they say it may be a 5 to 10 minute wait, I cancel it. 99% of the places have the food ready, so I'm not waiting.

I thought I always the only one! 🤣 I cancel a order quick if they got me wanting to take a seat in the lobby. I’m learning time management is equally important as the orders you choose. In panhandle FL these folks hate tipping if they not tourists 😭

I'll take that $3 order if it is a dash back to the hotspot order. In other words. We got out of the hot spot but there is this one restaurant we drive by to get to the big hot spot and the order offered will pay me to drive to the hot spot. If there is a wait, The order will get thrown back. I rarely have waits on low pay orders.

Brooklyn ny zones are bad. 90% of the time, your order takes you out your assigned zone. It's hard to start dashing in another zone because of how busy it may be. Most of the time the area you deliver to might be greyed out, making you have to drive back into the zone, wasting alot of time

I dash in clemson, sc. The pay sucks per mile. Base pay is low. It's hard to make money there. If I decline 2 in a row then it seems like they make me wait longer to get another one. The app messed up on me tonight and it was the first time I was able to schedule peak pay and it was taken away because of the app.

  • @Zinger3030

I don't take orders under $7.25, $2.25 being from Doordash. The average order is around $30, so if the customer doesn't tip at least $5 then it isn't worth my time. I try to keep the orders under 5 miles and I make sure that I will still be in the zone and near another order. Doordash will try to trick you into higher paying orders that will take you miles away from anything at all. I know that someone will take the order, but I just know better now. I passed a $19.75 order that was 11 miles one way today knowing that I could get two $10 orders below 5 miles each in my zone, and that is exactly what happened. $1 per mile in my area will make you under $15 an hour so I aim for $2 per mile, $25-$30 per hour.

I also don’t see a way to look at the delivery address before I accept an order in the app, or whether or not I’ll receive a tip. What am I missing here? I’ve only been dashing for a few weeks and I’m concerned about the wear and tear on my car.
