You didn’t sneak up on it, it knew you were there. Barred owls have different retina than most other owls which lets much more light through, therefore their eyes are very sensitive. You were shining a light at it so it turned its head to avoid staring into the light. I do this all the time with the barred owls in my area to get up close with them.
I've been living in my RV at the lake and I have a Barred Buddy. He an his female raised 3 chick's. All survived. I started calling the male about a year ago and that's where I discovered the female and the nest. I had pictures of them but since My new phone had such a huge memory I didn't bother to back them up. Lss... phone burnt. No pics.. LOL Anyways, the chick's hatched grew to around 12-24" high and they all 4 visit when I call.. They are really smart birds. When it was time to learn how to fly... you'd have thought there were 20 chimpanzees in the tree's!!! They were wild!! Awesome video. Don't forget to backup. Lol
One time I was running through the woods and as I slowed down I turned my head towards the tree next to me and there was an owl eye level with me. We both recoiled as we both made each other jump and then it flew off. I love owls. I'll sometimes play male/female sounds to attract them do I can get a better look and photograph them
I have a small but substantial patch of woods in back yard.with river/creek that goes throw it.super tall trees. I see barred owl everyday sometimes. It sounds like 100's of them stay in the cut behind my house. I walk up on one the other day (daylight) I posted it too .
I once seen an owl on a fence just like this, but in brawd daylight. And it was like 4 feet tall. It was watching me intently, and I actually was worried it was gonna jump off the fence to attack me. Cuz I had no idea what owls actually think about a human passing by.
I’ve always been really scared of an owl and I would avoid going out at night because I thought one would randomly attack me. This makes me feel more comfortable.
Don't ever do that with a bright light....Owls have very sensitive eyes...that Owl won't be able to see for hours after that.... I have a bunch in my area..I enjoy their sounds.
Definitely not sneaking up on that stealth unit ! 😁 So cool that he didn't consider you a threat. Probably because you're a good guy. (Just my theory) He was probably like sweet a search light , although I don't know how he wasn't blinded starring straight into that led.
Very cool experience. I always think to myself maybe these wild animals would enjoy me petting them and stay longer since they most likely have never experienced somebody petting them before which is something I assume all animals would like.
Awesome. Theyre around my house all the time. Hear them every night. Kind of odd. Seems like a lot of birds of prey around me. Hawks actually nest in my yard. Owls at night. Buzzards fly over all day every day. Even a few falcons that live around here somewhere. They fly through all the time.
Falcons and Hawks are mortal enemies to the Owl. Owls are known to eat their young if they find a nest. Most hawks wouldn't think of taking on a owl head to head, but occasionally they do. It's also interesting because Hawks are day birds and Owls mostly night birds, so opposite energy. I would say you are gifted with some powerful bird medicine
Nice catch! It's incredible that You were able to sneak up so close to the owl. And on the second note - You are lucky that he/she hasn't turned on the defence mode. :) Barred owls are knowned for defending their territory.
I thought that was the barn owl not the barred owl? Ugh I always get those two different owls mixed up & I know I’m not the only one who does cause an owl is an owl is an owl sometimes ya know.😊. But nope sure ‘nough you got a barred owl there.
Yeah I went most of my life not knowing the difference too lol. Barn Owls are skinny with pale mask-like faces, and you’ll probably find them in old buildings or more open areas. Barred Owls are thicker with round brown faces, and they prefer to live in forests
@@madduxnagel6935 would only be an issue for people who have only heard the words barred owl and barn owl said out loud and not ever seen either bird in prison or pictures or either name written out
This is great, but please dont touch them. They have serrated feathers or macroscopic combs to make their feathers near silent when flapping their wings. Getting human body oils on their feathers can cause harm to them. Never molest wildlife by touching, just enjoy them by looking.
I have like 3 diff pairs n my neighborhood. And its so funny when one gets n the others territory they get real vocal n loud sounds like some angry chimps.just had one fly past me few min ago on my way to feed my homeless cats.
Barred owls are my absolute MOST FAVORITE creature on the planet!! I heard one calling two nights ago in the woods by my house. Four years ago, a baby barred owl ended up in my backyard, right in the middle of a large city. Mom and dad stayed right by it, they would leave to hunt one at a time. It was so amazing!!!!
I mean that is a hugely unnatural amount of light, likely disorienting and when disoriented most animals just freeze. So you just disturb it for your own vanity and then say awesome? What's the point? You didn't rescue it, it wasnt a nuissance being somewhere it shoudbt be. You just forced it from a potential hunting spot because you could?
@TSAR2010 Oh nice! I actually just found out abt them after weeks of desperately trying to identify them in the field near where I live. I thought they were loggerhead shrikes at first. 😂😂😂
“I know he’s there, I just don’t care.”
because owl its flying cat..cat always act like that..
@@kodin9631 ah yes, a flying cat
I gurentee it had no clue how close he was. The light is so bright, its all it can see. And it probably thinks its the sun or something.
What a great comment and most likely what he was thinking! Lol! 😂
He's like bro you aren't sneaking up on nobody 😂
😂😂 exactly

Another reason as to why the owl allowed the camera to get so close is due to their mostly calm and curious temperament around humans.
I have these in my woods, hopefully I will see them one day. I only hear their calls and when they murder woodland creatures. 😂
@@katkameo6413 the ones in my area like to sit on branches and poles near me when I’m in the back yard/ patio. They’re very curious creatures.

Sadly I think those are antenna towers through the trees. At one point you can see a blinking pair over and under on the same vertical.
