A wise old owl lived in an oak.
The more he saw, the less he spoke.
The less he spoke, the more he heard..
Why can't we all be like that wise old bird?

Kansas City here aswell. 430 in the morning and there are atleast 2 of these owls in the tree next to my window. I thought I had heard something while watching the news so I turned down the TV and heard these owls calling each other across my neighborhood. I could hear the ones in the distance pretty well but the ones right outside my window were really loud. With it being almost Halloween and a bright moon in the sky it was pretty cool and creepy at the same time sitting here listening to them for about 30 minutes or so. They either flew away, went to sleep or getting it on right now because I can't hear them anymore. lol
I think the city waking up with all the different noises it brings scared them off probably. All in all it was cool while it lasted. For all I know they could be staring at me through my skylight. lol

I live in Northeast Ohio, and I hear these beautiful creatures hooting in my backyard all the time. But just this evening, I saw one perched on a tree branch outside my bedroom window, and excitedly got my parents and little brother to go look at it too. It didn't make any noise, it just sat there cleaning itself. I really should have just taken a picture of it from inside the house, but I wanted to get a really clear one, so I tried to get a picture outside of him a little closer. The very second I opened the door, he flew away, and I didn't get a picture. Hopefully, I'll see the owl again someday outside my bedroom window, and I'll be able to take a picture of it. This time I'll do it from inside the house, though.

During the Clinton administration, the whole thing with spotted owls came up and some logger got a hold of her and staked her to a tree. By the time the lady who ran the center found her, one wing was so infected, it had to be amputated. I got to hold her during a public showing and she was a treat to hold. Hey, just found this video while searching for information about the barred owl in the woods behind my house. I just wanted to say how impressed I was by the presenter in this video. No fluff (pardon the pun), just lots of good information presented clearly and concisely. Also, Shakespeare is absolutely gorgeous.

Excellent presentation! I love owls. They are my favorite raptor and species of birds. I am happy I stumbled on this video. Years ago, we used to have a Great Horned Owl up in the trees behind my neighbors unit across the street from me. It was a real gift to hear that call. I wish it was still around. The Barred Owl is gorgeous and what a beautiful call. What a great attempt at imitating the call! Keep up the great work!

Keep up the great work teaching the next generation❤ Our home is located next to a busy roadway rural PA...unfortunately, a few weeks ago I found a juvenile barred owl laying next to our driveway with a fluff of feathers near the blacktop. So beautiful, so sad. We have "mole heaven" for all our neighboring birds of prey...

What I enjoyed learning today thanks to the WMCC's Director Carrie: Barred owls have asymmetrical ears and lack the ability to smell. While the owl lacks the sense of smell, it is able to 'triangulate' exactness. That's quite a trade off.

What an amazing barred owl call you did! I just whistle it and they still call back to me. I’ve noticed after spending long periods of time in specific areas on the flint river that they have very slowly become more comfortable with my presence. They will perch on a branch in my campsite sometimes.

A young Barred owl sat for awhile (20min at dusk) in my largest birdbath a few weeks ago. She/he was the first owl I have seen since I moved here to NW Washington State 6yrs ago. What an honor to be visited by this amazing bird!

I sponsored a Barred Owl and a Great Horned Owl at a local nature center a few months ago. Now when I go see "my owls" after work close to sunset both of them are usually talkative. And the Barred Owl says "Who cooks for you?" but only says it once! "Say something once, why say it again?".

We have a lovely Barred couple that lives in the trees on the back of our property. My young dog doesn't like dwelling in the back yard most nights bc the owls will begin calling back and forth to each other and he likes to sit perfectly still and alert, face pointed in the direction of the nearest or loudest bird. Once, they started territorial calls and poor pupper put himself between me and the noise, then hid behind me, then began whimpering at the door, demanding to get inside. They can sound spooky late at night.. but still so pretty.
