The animators must have been veterans. The infantry man was eating soup with a fork. Spot on attention to detail.
Ouch
🤣🤣🤣
That’s because he was eating potatoes.
Scalloped potatoes
Not to mention there’s always one who can’t count off
"suicide squad"
Wow, Looney Toons was darker than I remember.
I thought they were eating prunes. ^^
Anti war and all that pre pearl harbor
Speaking of dark, how about that training substitute parachute?
It was always that dark
Many episodes featured characters offing themselves when things don’t go right.
@@hobomike6935 don’t forget Daffy Duck doing that death stunt where he drink nitroglycerin and a match to blow himself up
It's nice to see that the general didn't blame his mistake on the gunner; he's more ethical than any business manager.
Shows just how bad a General he is. Isn’t immediately blaming a subordinate.

@@TheAKgunnerits better to admit than to deny
Bob Iger should take note
The machine gunners munching on their meals was the best part in my opinion.
Nick Wilde they're pretty accurate, don't you think?
yep
Nick Wilde how did they predict how I eat?
I loved you and Judy in Zootopia!
Nick Wilde I like how the bombers eat
Prior to Pearl Harbor troops actually WERE training with trucks with TANK signs and 2x4’s for machine guns. The U.S. wasn’t at war but Britain was and lend lease was in full effect.
And yet it prepared the troops for that reality and showed civilians just how badly the military needed them to upgrade and supply them.
The real irony
This cartoon was made to tell the American people that their soldiers Are not war ready and should not join WWII in Europe but the sad part is that in a couple of months Pearl Harbour happened and they end up in the war anyway.
Majority of Americans were not for joining the war, seeing it as just more European nonsense. This plus a long isolationist policy had lead to vastly archaic armed forces. We didn't even have a decent armoured doctrine until the rush to modernise and build entire new armies.
Very often nobody is ready for war. Finland certainly was not. We had even young girls doing their part, some of them kept a watch of planes (paired with adult women), some sewing special mittens for the troops. Preschool-aged girls would watch their younger ones, as adult women had their hands full.
I hope people realize that it's going to repeat soon, and sooner than anybody wants
@@Klaaism lol, I remember that their early torpedoes were so bad many failed to detonate.
@@kos2919 Dranchinifel did an episode on it.
I love that this cartoon absolutely roasts the US Army for no reason at all
It actually makes sense in context
back in the day it was a honor to be joked about instead of being offended by everything.
@@sheilaolfieway1885 Nope this was made to convince Americans that their army was not ready and shouldn’t enter WW2 and lots of the real people they depicted such as chuck jones were in fact….offended
It was made during a time where joining WWII was not at all popular, to make it clear that it wasn’t a good idea to join the war. Then Pearl Harbor happened less than a year later.
Too bad they don't let that happen now
Good to see the gunners understood he meant longitude when he said lattitude
How I miss these cartoons
Same here 👍👍👍👍
Bruh it's 1941
Holy crap. That bugle player near the beginning was such a let-on.
As a trumpet player, the way he exhales perfectly resembles how one would blow into a trumpet mouthpiece while playing. Makes it seem like he's a pro at it if he is doing it in his sleep. So assumptions start flowing once he wakes up. Is he going to blow down the tent? Knock down every other tent nearby? Is the cuckoo bird gonna just stuff its horn in his still sleeping face?
But no, in true Looney Toon fashion they completely upend expectations and hit you with a curve ball from left field. Absolutely love this stuff.
5:00 they even showed the Gustav cannon
A bit small for the Gustav. Could he one of his 6 little brothers of the "Karl" Type. Karl was 600mm Shells. Gustav 800mm
5:21 When you buy an "early access" game.
Wasn't this cartoon to kinda nake fun of the fact that the United States was not at all ready for another war?
Pretty much, think it was trying to get people to buy bonds or some shit, they made quite a few of these for various purposes.
@@damackabet.4611 Actually this was made before the US entered on the war, so it aged quite badly.
And look what happened later.
It was anti-war. US folks don't want to get involved in another world war and expect it to end like last time. They don't expect the Japanese
This is (pre)war propaganda. It's supposed to boost morale and make soldiers feel easier about enlisting. To that end it's light hearted and funny
Been almost 50 years since I have seen this! I cannot believe I remember so much of it! WoW a Classic...
Been almost 50 years….?
Are we live in 1980-90s?
@@bowq9628 I watched this as a kid in the mid 1970's not back in the mid 1940's. This cartoon was OLD as HELL even back then. I was not alive back then so it was a rerun on TV, This should answer your question.
How were the 1980s like?
I love how the Machine Gunners rapidly put beans or something in their mouth while the suicide squad eat Hash
Canadian here - what's the significance of the hash? I'm assuming it's corned beef? Is there some context I'm missing?
According to Google Hash could mean using up leftovers, or dealing revenge. So are these vets being sent on a suicide mission, or is it a punishment detail?
@@SiegeTFshit on shingle, only for the suicidal
i think it tastes so bad you'd wish you were dead@@SiegeTF
@@circleinforthecube5170 for a last meal, this sucks
@@SiegeTFIt's a double play on the word.
Hash has a lot of meaning depending on where you're from. I this case it's referencing 'hash', the drug, consumed by the original assassin's before a suicide mission.
Then there's hash, in the original French it referred to chopped up leftover served as a second meal.
In the army it either refers to a particular ration like corned beef as you imagined but it's a common name for iron rations and a number of soldier's dishes.
Sadly for the Suicide squad this seems to be the second type of hash. Plus they're going to die.
7:16 of course, you aimed at the general hq, that map was upside down the whole time!
That one person: you'd be sooorryy!
163 likes?!?!?! Thx so much😭😭😭😭
In the mess hall the Infantry from left to right is Tex Avery, Henry Binder who was Leon Schlessinger's secretary and I believe the other one is Bob Clampett. As for the the bombers the one with black hair is Bob McKimson and the one with blonde hair is Chuck Jones, I'm not quite sure who the one with red hair is.
I believe he's meant to be Friz Freleng himself whom was a red-head
@@TheComedicProsthesecondone a
Thank you!!!
Wow, Thank You😮
Looking at the faces of the 'suicide squad', I think the balding one is either Friz Freleng or Mel Blank.
5:30 R. I.P poor guy...
What a hell of a way to die.
relax…given this is technically Looney Tunes, off-screen he’ll most likely just be heavily flattened like a pancake with stars and chirping birds rapidly floating around his head.

The US Army got a very nasty lesson from Rommel at Kasserine Pass that they were woefully unready to fight a battle hardened Wehrmacht. A lot of changes were made afterwards.
I watched this as a 19 year old in 1945. Man these was the best memories ever 🔥 Loved this cartoon. Good times. It was lit
Dang! If that's true welcome to mid 2024, good sir! Here's to many more years. 🍺
The fact that people fuck up count offs since 1941. Holy shit.
It's hard to believe these cartoon were out during war time
Nah. I get it. Like, there is so much silliness in the military that if you were in the military and saw this, it would truly crack you up. While there is clearly exaggeration here, there are things that are true - bad chow, that one dumb serviceman, infantry going on long marches (humps), the differences between job roles, bad leadership…this video was made pre-ww1 and I still get it despite having decided from 02’ - 2010. And anyone serving today would get it as well. Somethings just don’t change.
As far as I know these were pre-ww1 kind've jabbing fun at the fact that the army just wasn't ready for the war and up until Pearl Harbor most Americans were anti-war. You had volunteers that left to fight in other armed forces or units like the Flying Tigers out in China but it wasn't until Pearl Harbor that Americans really got the sucker-punch they needed to wake up and smell the folgers so to speak.
Pre-ww1? No, it's not. The year it was released is in the title of the TH-cam video, 1941.
It was pre war it’s a joke to show how unprepared and unprofessional the American military was.
Following close behind the camouflage troops
The headquarters getting hit genuinely made me wheeze
Next time try the train😂 4:25
I remember watching this bro in a hard drive
That opening took me back to Saturday mornings when I was a kid. Thanks.
Poor parachute guy!
How is it these soldiers have so much hair? They had us shaved down... These guys look like postmen, with guns... Love the camouflage troop
3:40 When did this animation come out? I would assume WWII, but Horse Calvary had been made inadequate back in WWI because of the Machine Gun. I know that militaries still used horses for transportation and utility roles, but they had been mostly removed from combat.
it was released in 1941.
Most horseback cavalry units were phased out by 1939 but the last time America ordered a cavalry charge was against the Japanese in 1942.
5:30 if this happen on real lives, we wont have any parachutist troop left in the war
you know, seeing the "army" using cars to train tankers didn't do justice to the reality. These people would have been training in falling apart French Renault-FT's (M1917 american made but still falling apart) which served from the end of ww1, to the 1930's.
So funny! I had to look up the jokes like “Bank Night”. Humor from 100 years ago!
I wish we could turn back time😢

It’s too bad nobody wants to produce cartoons like this anymore.
That's like when I was at school I was glad when the lunch bell rang.
It's wild that the beginning of WWII the US still had actual horse mounted calvary. They were actually used in the Philippines well after most were disbanded and replaced with mechanized calvary in 1939.
