Here's the deal: Brawl-4-all was made strictly to "legitimately" sell Dr Death as a legit tough guy to the WWE audience, that was going to ignite his push towards a WrestleMania title match. The problem with that is, they instructed EVERYONE to legit shoot, not pull any punches. Bart Gunn was one guy that went up to JR and asked if they were sure about this, offered to throw the fight. JR laughed it off, "don't worry about it kid." Bart Gunn went on to humiliate Dr. Death, and in turn, humiliate JR as Dr. Death was his boy. After he did so, the idea of the winner going on to main event WrestleMania was scrapped, JR and Vince decided to humiliate Bart Gunn instead by putting him up against a legit boxer that boxed for a living. Butterbean was told to go all out, approach it like a real fight, so Bart Gunn's humiliation could be complete. So, not only were they severely stupid to go along with this, but also showed just the high quality of assholes they were for screwing over and humiliating a guy who actually offered to bail them out of their own stupid idea.
@wolfman02 Contrary to popular (well popular among the internet smarks) McMahon is not that vindictive, the First Rule of wrestling is and always has been Shit Happens, accidents occur, injuries always take place at the least opportune time. Yes they had hopes for Dr. Death but, as I sad, it happens, a good promoter learns to think on his feet. Problem with the Brawl was nobody really knew what they were doing, they had a concept but no real structure and no follow-thru, they were making it all up as it was going. And the problem with Bart was, while he was a solid wrestler and a legitimately tough guy he had no personality, today they could probably push him to the top but in 96-97 they couldn't. I'm sure they were hoping they could see something after WrestleMania but after getting flattened by Butterbean, who despite Cornette's colorful description as being a Walking Waterbed, was as legit a pro boxer as they came, Bart's stock, not to mention the Brawl itself, just went in the toilet.

I REMEMBER THINKING BART GUNN WAS A BEAST!
lol as a wrestling fan still could not get past the fact that they still somehow scripted it. hell ill take $$ and get haymakers thrown on me
Don't be. All of the honor belongs to Jim Cornette.
Definitely the worst thing in the Attitude Era. Mae Young's baby hand, Mark Henry with the transvestite, McMahon Helmsley storyline. None of it holds a candle to the monstrosity, that was "Brawl 4 all". It went on for months and months.... in 1998 and ended at WM 15 in 99. AWFUL stuff. My uneducated and young, ignorant self, in 1998, thought it was cool and "refreshingly different". Nope. Even the Invasion angle, was much better. Albeit, a better failure.
Exactly I remember watching it even as a kid and going WTF..... The most confusing part was they didn't even say it was a "shoot" they just kinda introduced a boxing tournament in the middle of a wrestling show with no build and no top guys...
So everyone thought it was fake but then if so what was the story??? Well there was no story because it was a shoot but they wouldn't admit it...So why???
Because Russo and Idiot that's why....
well actually he didn't buried mcmahon when he worked for him, different pimp i guess. Cornette is nothing more than the poor man's version of paul heyman
@TheAmethystScorpion Yeah. It was real and it was horrible.
@nwo1234life I love Jim Cornette but let's face it, you won't find decent pictures of that face.
i wouldn't call that 'snapping'. Mildly bending maybe XD
The brawl for all was the best it should happen again this time with the likes of Brock lesner undertaker cena or sheamus khali big show and mark henry
Brock would win barely breakig a sweat.
undertaker is a old man whos body is so broken he wouldnt lat 2 seconds.
As for the rest, none of them are fighters.
lmao bring back the brawl for all! x) it can't be worse than what we are getting today
