I like how in the beginning of Kung Fu Panda 2, the narrator never repeats the “one often meets his destiny on the road he takes to avoid it” quote. We’re able to infer this message simply from Shen’s story.
There is a legend of a story that Death once told me… There was a merchant in Bagdad who sent his servant to market to buy provisions and in a little while the servant came back, white and trembling, and said, Master, just now when I was in the marketplace I was jostled by a woman in the crowd and when I turned I saw it was Death that jostled me. She looked at me and made a threatening gesture, now, lend me your horse, and I will ride away from this city and avoid my fate. I will go to Samarra and there Death will not find me. The merchant lent him his horse, and the servant mounted it, and he dug his spurs in its flanks and as fast as the horse could gallop he went. Then the merchant went down to the marketplace and he saw me standing in the crowd and he came to me and said, Why did you make a threating getsture to my servant when you saw him this morning? That was not a threatening gesture, I said, it was only a start of surprise. I was astonished to see him in Bagdad, for I had an appointment with him tonight in Samarra.
OKAY but can we PLEASE acknowledge the fact that Shen was voice by Gary Oldman, the very man who played SIRIUS BLACK amongst other fantastic roles? Like, he's just pure villain gold, played ba a FANTASITC actor.
The fact that the villain is a PEACOCK, and a WHITE peacock, too. Peacocks are generally seen as beautiful, elegant, regal creatures, and white is generally seen as a peaceful and serene color. Every single aspect of Shen highlights how powerful and regal he is, from the way he speaks and fights, to the way he carries himself. His entire army is composed of dark grays and blacks, while he is pure white. He is a leader, through and through. It’s just…GODLIKE character design.
No bcs Shen was majestic, his “lord” title was not for fun. He represented the mental strength and intelligence through the weapon he brought, an evolution
This is why the second movie was great. His villainy was fun to watch and it really shows what a big threat he is to the main character (emotionally, mentally, and physically with the cannons and wolfpacks)
There is more to Shen and Kai than that. Shen's theme is also overshadowing, as if it is an approaching wave. His theme clearly describes him as a leader. A man who controls a massive group of loyal followers. Kai's theme is different, though. His theme sounds like a final boss that can't be fought. Kai's theme describes him as a powerful undividual that cannot be beaten through combat or strategy.

Kung Fu Panda 2 is easily the best out of all 3 of the Kung Fu panda movies. The music was epic in every way, the storyline was deep and and hit home, The villain was sinister in every way. He did use canons but also showed his skill in Kung-fu while in hand to hand combat. To me Kung Fu Panda 1 just didnt hit home as much and it was just more of an opener for Kung fu panda 2 and 3. Kung Fu panda 3 also has a really good villain and epic music. But the storyline didnt hit home much as the 2nd movie.

As a kid, I was scared of Tai Lung (so sorry if I spelled that wrong) from the first movie. Especially because of his prison escape scene. But weirdly, I was hypnotized by Shen in the sequel, like so frozen in fear and hopelessness that kid me somehow forgot to be scared. Part of that was his voice, his wicked design, and of course his theme. This epic version brought me back to that feeling. Sheer terror of an unstoppable peacock that I almost want to welcome

Lord Shen was the best villain amongst all the other villans in the Kung Fu panda trilogy. His story and motives was so clear it blended so well with Po's past as if the missing pieces of Po's past were finally connected.
Kung fu panda 2 was full of emotions, legendary soundtracks and legendary fighting sequences, but most uniquely scary and spine shivering quotes and mental unrest. I really hope future Kung Fu Panda movies won’t be targeted at 5 year old kids like the third one.
I loved it and I was 4 years old when I saw it
@@Hey_yeah He's referring to the way modern animated movies cater so much more to a childish audience of children. Not like we were when we were kids. When we saw these movies as kids (5-10~) we understood the depth of the stories and the villains as characters with emotion. Nowadays, it's just everyone is luvy-duvy, and there's some bad man who's just mean. Idk. I guess everything's so much more simple and flat now. We don't have stuff like The Prince of Egypt and KFP2 coming out anymore. . .
welp....
How wrong was I. Sigh...@@reazon3955
@reazon3955 I was about to say..... KFP4 was ummm, childish. 😢

A quote from Shen that describes how this cover makes me feel.
Yes most underrated theme finally done by Samuel Kim
That would be Tai Lung’s theme.
@@thecoronavirus1819 Given it got compilation from Jorath the Andal and is more often made by other youtubers I would not call it more underrated than Shen
NO WAY YOU ACTUALLY DID IT, I LOVE YOU SAMUEL KIM

Guess that one guy requesting this theme on every video finally got recognised lol
There was more than one person?! {haha the joke is, I doubt I'd ever get recognized for something like that.}
I've never heard Shen's theme modulated to those notes before and it just gave me utter chills. It's so expressive, able to pack in so many different emotions at once it's insane!
Lord Shen is one of the perfect examples on how to write a good villain.
Tai Lung, ambition without belief in himself, too much in the dragon scroll
Shen, inteligence without wisdom
Kai, power without passion
Shi Fu, Wisdom paired with patience
Oogway, Wisdom paired with patience and grace, and the power of ones spirit
Po, pure kung fu fighting
kai's theme slaps so hard this guy puts it in anything, and it never sounds out of place

“Pain is temporary Po, but scars are forever”
“I know that, however it is yourself who must push past the scars”

You really make Shen seem like a true villain with his music.
Shens theme was one of the best. You could really hear all the emotions of the character In it.
“How many times do I have to kill the same stinking panda?!”
-Lord Shen
Shen is just one of the best villains ever.
Tai Lung = Best Fighter
Lord Shen = Best Villain
Kai = Best Theme
Agreed.
I think Shen’s theme was the best out of all of them Kai was for real a badass tho
@@firedragon77777 Kai did defeat Tai Lung in the spirit realm, you get to see his jade amulet in Kai's possession at some point.
I feel like Kai's theme was too repetitive. Dun dundadun... dundundadun... dundundadun... dundundan! eoughwuehhh.... It just feels like a cliffhanger each time, or getting blueballed as I wanted the "dundadun"s to go on even longer
Tai lung and Kai are both the most intimidating
God this theme is so phenomenally menacing yet so smoothly elegant, happy that you worked on it!
"Gather the wolves, we sail tonight"
"Which ones?"
"EVERYONNNE!!!"
Thank you for doing this cover. Kung Fu Panda 2 is an animation masterpiece, and it is severely underrated. I really like the other Kung Fu Panda movies as well, but 2 just hits deeper. It has that balance of kid-friendly humor but some deep stuff going on in the background. Plus amazing cinematography and choreography and unique characters.
This is great. I literally just began a shen theme binge ( it's pretty much all I've listened to for a week) and was disappointed to see you hadn't done one. What perfect timing!
The Year of the Peacock (featuring the Bull) begins now! Such a masterpiece, Mr. Kim, my congratulations to you and all your work!
Po : See that's the thing Shen, scars heal.
Shen : No they don't, wounds heal.
Po : Oh yeah, what do scars do? they fade I guess..
Shen : I don't care what scars do!
Frustration in Shen's voice was epic lol.
This guy seriously scared me as a kid. If this theme existed I probably would've refused to watch Kung Fu Panda 2 for a very long time.
It does exist.
@@AVGyerra22 lol yeah
Another universe you could jump into : star trek. A Samuel Kim version of "entreprising young men"... Oooooomg

Or the song from Best of Both World's when they confirmed The Borg were enroute.
"Hail Star Fleet, and tell them we have engaged The Borg"
It hasn't even started why is there 3 dislikes
lol probably bots
Wheres that person who kept requesting this song?
Its your time now
Kung Fu Panda 2 is easily the best out of all 3 of the Kung Fu panda movies.
I’ll drop my usual request of the Grand Inquisitors theme from Star Wars Rebels, but I can’t even be too mad. This is something I didn’t know I’d need. Thank you very much
“The dead exist in the past…
…and I must tend to the future.”

This is incredible. I already love what do did with Kai's theme and now Now Shen too. You truely are the master of composing Epic remixes. Thank you Samuel Kim.
0:38 brooo, the amount of chill I felt is just I can't put it in words
Lord Shen was hands down one of the BEST DreamWorks Villains to date. And Gary Goldman NAILED Him!👍
EDIT: Wait... What's that whistling to my ears?
I didn't really sleep last night and was falling alseep.
I played this and...
*I started swinging my keychain like Kai with his blades*
I know you said you have been busy with other projects and that's why you have been making a lot of AOT and Anime covers also some Star Wars ones too. And even though I have been enjoying them it's been the same thing for the last 2 months.
The Lord Shen Theme is like a breath of fresh air. Something that is refreshing especially since It's Kung Fu Panda. For some reason your Kung Fu Panda covers are always at their peak they are so epic and filled with energy and excitement from the exhilarating Kai's theme to the tranquil Oogway's theme. They are truly one of your best in my opinion
Both Tai LUNG and Kai = physical damage
Mean while Shen = EMOTIONAL DAMAGE
3:38 THAT'S MULAN! THAT'S FUCKIN SHORT HAIR FROM MULAN! I'VE HEARD THIS REMIX SO MANY TIMES AND I JUST CAUGHT WHERE THAT LITTLE ARPEGGIO IS FROM UGGH I LOVE THESE MUSICAL EASTER EGGS *SO MUCH*
Ya know, coming back to this, I realize, if fate had gone just slightly differently, Tai Lung could've been the warrior of black and white
It would be a beautiful fight scene between him and shen
It’s your parting gift in that it will part you , some of you here , some of you there , and some of you waayy over there staining the wall
You insolent fool!!!!! (Jumps)
I love this guy, he always brings up themes of my favorite characters!
Lord Shen's theme is so badass, and imposing
Legit the saddest Dream Works movie and theme song is Kung Fu Panda 2. Dare I say also probably one of the best movies made by DreamWorks ever.
Samuel Kim is the Dragon Warrior
It’s about time! Been anticipating this theme since Kai! And holy shit...my boy Shen has been done justice. Glad he hasn’t been forgotten. In my humble opinion he stands as the best villain in the KFP trilogy.
Also, happy almost 10 years of KFP2!
The bar was set so high with #2. God the music is so good. After watching #4 I need to cleanse my palate. So here I am looking up anything KFP 1 or 2
3rd one is also good. It's just more into comedy
That is some badass Shen artwork. Love the seamless transitioning between the themes.
I'd love to see you make fanmade themes for some of the characters using music from some scenes they were in. Wishful thinking I know, but you've done some excellent covers before.
Omg I was listening to Shens Theme, the original one and the other epic version for the last few weeks and now YOU created another epic masterwork. Thank You!! :)
There are others!!
I think this is the first movie I ever saw in a theater. Lots of nostalgia. The remix you've created is amazing!
Shen is one of my favourite characters from the whole kung fu panda trilogy, he is elegant, smart and skilled but it makes me sad that he wanted to kill all pandas and wouldn't even care about who he killed
I find it impressive that a kids movie somehow made a Peafowl scary and bloodthirsty at the same time.
GOOOOD, I JUST CANT HANDLE HOW WONDERFUL THIS IS
His theme is so sad and tense. I love this!!
