      @@casualcookin3893 Gaunter will take *any* opportunity he can to interpret wishes as uncharitably as he can get away with. The ways that he punishes people are often far disproportionate to their offenses. He feeds off of souls. And of course he does his best to portray himself as neutral, because he has a vested interest in being seen that way. But he’s far from neutral.
      I think he’s a brilliant character, but I don’t think him being absolutely evil changes that. The fact that he hides that from you, and that you have to discover it piece by piece as you unravel the story, is part of what makes him so well-written.

    You know what? I've had years to think about this and I'm just gon say it: I don't think that Gaunter O'Dimm is actually all *that* evil. I think he does qualify as evil categorically, but he's very much the lawful sort and as clearly an elemental being, his darkness is not exactly human darkness. He's more of a cosmic function with a charming interface than an actual person; he can't operate any other way or be anything else and even if he appears to enjoy his games it's only because he's programmed to, so to speak. His description of Olgeird as "a degenerate monster in human flesh who feeds on the pain and suffering of others"....is the exact same description he'd give of literally anyone who's ever accepted on of his self-serving contracts. It's his job to mirror our darkness and he can really only see that part of our souls because it isn't his function to assess anything else.
    And I'm concerned now that by realizing that, I've gotten his attention on a meta-level, so brb, grabbing some salt.

    You can say this is one of the or maybe the only time Geralt's action is embarassing. as you can see he uses his favorite excuse , Im a Witcher my mutation messes with my brain. I think it was Djikstra who says that Geralt only uses that excuse.

    • @bustinarant
      @bustinarant หลายเดือนก่อน +15

      I think Dijkstra was talking about their neutrality and he definitely breaks that "rule" all of the time.
      Geralt is a lot more emotional than he lets on to strangers, though. Not incapable of having human feelings, it just isn't visible with his mutated voice, face, or eyeballs lol

      He's evil incarnate, a cosmic force, so for all intents and purposes, he cannot ever be defeated - only tricked for a few moments. Geralt already did that, so why do we need more of that? Granted, we don't know what "a few moments" might be for a universal entity, so could be he rematerialized on the Continent a few seconds after he got tricked, or he might be gone for the next 500 years. For an entity that seemingly controls time as well, that's probably nothing, but to us? You can figure that one out.
      Who knows, maybe he's a sore loser and just refuses to play with those cheating humans again until he's finally over it. He seems capricious like that.
