    ...and after Olgierd walked away, he died to the first monster that crossed his path because now that he is mortal again and has to get back to civilisation from out in the middle of nowhere, he thought the best idea would be to give Geralt his sword.

      Twardowski's contract provided that his soul can be taken after fullfilling three wishes, and only in Rome. He promised himself never ever to get close to that city. However, after many years, while in the inn he was visited by the Devil. It turned out that the inn's name was... Rome.

    I love how it ends, Olgierd tells of how he is going to start anew, be the master of his own fate. By doing so, he gives his saber to Geralt, it's the one thing which was with him throughout all those years. Even when he came up to have lost everything, he had the saber, Iris.
    Geralt takes the saber and he accidentely cuts the palm of Olgierd's hand, as if he made a pact. He made a pact not with Geralt, but with fate.

    • @PhilTahitiFr
      @PhilTahitiFr 2 ปีที่แล้ว +13

      I look back at it again.
      I think, Olgierd makes a pact once again. As he tells, « it’s time I took fate in my own hands again, live life anew. ». He gives his blade Iris to Geralt. When Geralt takes it, Olgierd has his hand cut; coincidence or fate or the game art director. What he knows is, he made a pact, not to Geralt, not to O’dimm, but to himself.
      The blade is Iris, the blade is the metaphor to a rose. Just so, in the story, he gives his wife Iris, a violet rose which Geralt has to find again.
      The blade cuts Olgierd’s hand, just like a rose’s thorns would.
      The pact he made to himself, is to live life anew.
      The blade cuts his hand, as thorns of a rose, symbol of life and love would do. He gives what reminded him of his lost love, in return his lost love cuts him. And he feels it, he takes two freakin’ seconds looking at his hand and feeling the pain. The lost love cuts his hand, he feels the pain deep.
      That’s what he gives to start anew, to move onward.
      When Geralt apologizes, he says « you needn’t be ». He goes on his path anew.
      Whatever may follow ahead for him. He is broken, but he starts to go forward and heal perhaps, because he can feel again, he might love again. What he do have is hope. Otherwise he wouldn’t have made the pact.
      Let’s hope he might have traded his sword for a rose he does not yet grasp.
      I’d love to see the Netflix film crew take on this character in the witcher tv show seasons to come someday.
      This game expansion is definitely pure art in story telling, after you’ve witnessed it unfold.
      It’s leaving us wonder and interpret the story in our own way, in our own imagination.

      It was indeed. It's gotta be my favorite story of the game (up there with Gerald's and Yenn's cause I am a sucker for star-crossed lovers, but still doesn't compare to this in many ways). Olgeird was so, so much more...
      I read a ton of comments condemning him, calling him an evil, unworthy individual... truth is, life has made real-life persons feel as empty as him if not more, even without the fantasy of being immortal or having this character's past of losing everything... so in my eyes, there is nothing there to condemn. He will always be hunted by his mistakes (and that is punishment enough) but thanks to Gerald he has a chance for true change, moving on, starting anew...
      So I'm right there with you. this DLC has a much better story than the base game.

Besides, other than accidentally cursing the ofieri prince, he didn't do anything particularly evil. I didn't even consider letting O'Dimm steal his soul.
    Also, can Geralt be any more of a badass? It's one thing to risk your life, but to risk you soul for some guy you barely know, that takes some balls.

      GBN Games Did you even pay attention at all? Olgierd and company forced themselves into the manor cause they wanted to party there. At first the owners complied out of fear, but after a while Sir Garin, the owner, got tired and told them to leave. One of Olgierd's mercenaries killed him on the spot, thinking his boss wouldn't care, but despite his heart of stone Olgierd still had a sense of honor, and didn't approve of killing his host, so he had the man's head chopped off. Garin's daughter blamed Olgierd for her father's death and tried to kill him, but he points out that it was not him, but the man he just had executed, who actually killed her father, and that justice had been done.
      ...Or you could do the foolish thing, assume Olgierd is evil for no reason, fight him without knowing the full facts, and allow a murderer to walk free...

      ChuckPalomo firstly, master mirror walks away independently of what you do... you don´t kill him, you just make so he doesn´t kill olgierd. secondly, he murdered many people even before his curse, so he ain´t no angel. thirdly, i don´t care what are his reasons, he cursed that prince just because of family bullshit. and finally, even though he got mad that they killed the manor owner, he has no fucking right to invade someone property and start tearing it down. and im pretty sure you are going to state that he only did that because of his curse. well, to bad. people suffered and got killed because of his curse, so he should be punished. plus it makes no freaking sense for geralt to put his soul on the line for olgierd

  • @earthborn6186
    @earthborn6186 3 ปีที่แล้ว +86

    The reason why I always choose this ending for Heart Of Stone is because of the famous quote from Geralt himself. "Evil is Evil. Lesser, greater, middling… Makes no difference. The degree is arbitrary. The definition’s blurred. If I’m to choose between one evil and another… I’d rather not choose at all." Geralt by principle is neutral and he will never side with one evil from another even if it is lesser.
    Olgierd may have done a lot of bad things in the past but seeing his past, his regrets, his choices, and seeing Iris's undying love for him, made me realize Olgierd is not "Evil". He is just a man who happens to make a lot of bad choices. But a man could redeem it as long he is given a second chance.
    Gaunter O' Dimm on the other hand... He is just pure evil. There is nothing good about him. He grants what you wish, not what you want. If he just wants to punish the greedy and take their souls, he should have not punished the good professor by forever trapping him in a small circle and making him blind. He just wants to punish those who he traps in his evil contracts. And worst of all... He enjoys it... immensely.
    That's why I always choose this ending. Geralt by his morals will always and no doubt save Olgierd. He will not let something so pure evil win and get away with it. Yes, at times he is neutral most of the time especially in Politics but both sides always have a hidden agenda about it. Evil always exists in the world of Politics. But in this case, he is given a chance to save a trapped man's life and he took it.

    • @notrather5514
      @notrather5514 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      To me that neutrality means exactly the opposite. In this ending he takes a side while the other actually is neutral, because he doesn literally nothing. And remember that manor guy who he beheaded and all the other people he killed. Master Mirror did hurt 3 people that we know of: the lady who would have let him starve to death willingly, Olgierd who cursed the prince and was a raider way before the pact and also sacrificed his brother, and the professor. The professor is the odd one but also he was the only one who knew too much, and even then his punishment was not even that bad considering the universe they live in, and the fact that he was a researcher and not a physical worker whihch meant he could ply his trade still.
      And also Master Mirror twists wishes true, but he did do it with Geralt. Geralt can be considered a good man and Master Mirror was generous with him and even kind of kind.
      And yes he killed that one man in the tavern but we dont know about it anything. That man could have been the vliest man ever or maybe the kindest, we will never know so I wouldnt bring him in the discussion since too little is known about it (and the fact that GOD said that it was because he interrupted him does not prove anything because he could have been simply lying to frighten Geralt)

      I'll say him and Iris' marriage failing even though they loved one another was a direct result of him not being able to feel the love he once had for her, for which Gaunter himself is responsible for maliciously twisting his wishes and turning his heart into stone. I've even heard some theories that Gaunter himself was responsible for his family's misfortunes which led to Olgierd seeking his help in the first place, though they don't offer a concrete proof.
      During the conversation about the final task, in some of the dialogue choices, Olgierd openly tells Geralt that he'd welcome death and calmly tells Geralt that if he manages to complete the final task then "that'll be the end of me." Compare that to this video in which he panics and is actually afraid when death finally comes for him after he is able to feel again, which gives a rough estimate of just how much his emotions were dulled because of Gaunter.
      Finally, I liked seeing Olgierd and the Bloody Baron in the anniversary trailer in which they look more happy, friendly and animated, which leads me to believe that ultimately Geralt redeemed both him and Baron (who looks happy which makes me think he finally was able to heal his wife), two flawed characters who did bad things in the past, by going against ancient powerful enemies (the Tree spirit and Gaunter) to give them a second chance at life.

    Challenging O'Dimm was the one time where I genuinely felt like the brave superhero the devs want me to feel like when playing a video game(no, attacking a giant in Skyrim for the first time was ignorance). I mean, in other games, no matter how powerful the main antagonist is, I know you have to face him/her eventually. In this, the stupidly powerful antagonist is not only stupidly powerful and utterly terrifying, I'm actually given the choice not to fight him and even told not to fight him. The game repeatedly tells me that I have absolutely no chance against this guy and even rewards me for sitting this one out so when I actually went against this unstoppable and incomprehensible force, I was the fearless warrior myself because I made the choice to be so myself without the game forcing me into the role. Easily one of the most, if not the most satisfying moment I've ever had in any game.

He deals directly with Master Mirror, at first asking him to save Ciri, which he could not (or refused to), then a way to feel no more pain, and Mirror did so by taking ALL of Geralt's precious memories of Ciri. Whether or not Geralt makes it out alive (or even wants to) is up to the player.

    I don't get the bashing towards Olgierd. Of course the man was a punk, a
    glorified bandit and kind of a dick, but if you pay attention to his
    back story, which is revealed at the previous mission, you kinda
    understand him. The man was heart-broken, desperate and made a mistake
    he couldn't fix on his own. He was trapped in a life of torment, because
    a demon/devil/whatever took advantage of his misfortune and ego. His
    "heart of stone" was a side effect of his poorly worded wish. So, yeah,
    between helping this man get a second chance and helping a monster prey
    on him and let it take advantage of even more people, of course I'm

    This game will forever be in my heart and my all time favorite series hands down. I absolutely loved The Witcher 2 never played the first one but played The Witcher 2 on the 360 and instantly fell in love and bought the books so I can learn more of the world. When they announced a new one I almost shit my pants and went out and bought a one just so I could play this game honestly. I was not disappointed and put 100's of hours into the game I have played through the main story twice and played all the DLC's my favorite being Blood and Wine DLC but they are all masterpieces. This game left a whole in me for RPG's and just spoiled all of us for real then RDR2 came out and sort of filled that hole but not all the way. I do not think it will be filled until another Witcher game is made which I do believe they will do, This game did to well for them to not do another one in the future and I truly believe they will return to the Witcher they own the game rights. I would love for them to do a open world sandbox RPG with character creation for male and female players not forcing any player to play male or female and maybe chose your school or something. But I know they will make another one just imagine watching E3 and the Witcher logo pops up tell me you won't scream like a little girl and shit your pants with excitement lol.

    You know, something I have been thinking. In the DLC they say that Gaunter O'dimm is an 'incarnation of evil' and, well, I got htinking, since he is a magical creature he is probably a result of the conjunction of the spheres. SO, with that in mind, what if there is a world full of creatures simialr to Master Mirror? Obviously, from our perspective, he is evil, but what if what he is doing is perfectly fine within his moral compass and that of his people? Of course, I am not saying it is like I am saying, jsut osmehtign that I thought baout

    • @revan438
      @revan438 9 ปีที่แล้ว +15

      +Rafael Eisele Scholar said he was very old and that he found entries of Gaunter going back thousands of years. Conjuction is a "recent" event. Remember that you meet with him at crossroads ( Crossroad Demon).

    • @Deserit
      @Deserit 9 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      +Arda Ergin You do realize the conjunction of the spheres is a very old event, right? Furthermore, who isn't to say that Gaunter is one of a kind

    • @revan438
      @revan438 9 ปีที่แล้ว +12

      +Rafael Eisele Nope it's not that old. In the last book The Lady of the Lake it's stated that Avallach, Eredin and Auberon the king of Alders had the ability to jump another worlds but after the Conjunction of Spheres they lost that ability and the whole reason why they were looking for Ciri was to make her bear a son and open the Great Gate with his help which would allow them to travel between the worlds again since they lost that ability after the Conjunction and Auberon is considered to be the eldest of among the Alder Folk, he is only 650 years old so Conjunction happened between these years. It's a recent event compared to thousands of years old entities of Gaunter.
      Also only after the conjunction humans appeared in the worls of Aen Seidhe and aince Aed Gywnweith or whatever was his name was the eldest sorcerer living. He was 500 years old and was the one of the first human settlers sons who came to this world after the conjunction.

    • @Deserit
      @Deserit 9 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      +Arda Ergin yes, but you do realize that Ciri is the product of countless generations of people bearing the Elder Blood, right? Furthermore, there are books in the Witcher 1 and 2 that claim the Conjunctionw as 1500 years ago, that's not recent by any stretch of the margin

    • @revan438
      @revan438 9 ปีที่แล้ว +11

      Rafael Eisele Conjunction and the Elder Blood is not related at all.It was created by elves to prevent a prophesied disaster happening. It wasn't created as a tool to travel between the worlds, It was created to save the elves. Conjunction is not related at all. I can't blame you because games get a lot of things wrong sometimes. For example in the first game's introduction they get the date of Battle of Brenna wrong. I woudln't trust the books you find in the games.

    I know people say that this isn’t a good ending because your letting a horrible person get away with everything he’s done, but honestly, he has suffered enough and I think he really has learned his lesson by the end of it all. Even if you can’t get pass not killing Everc, I say it’s still worth at least trying to banish O’dimm because he has caused to much pain to people who don’t often deserve it. Professor was punished just for trying to know O’dimms true nature and the spoon lady was literally cursed for 100 years because one night she decided not to give food to a stranger. If Gaunter were to be unbanished, he would just cause more problems for people.

    the best feeling about this good ending was that finally after taking that rose from iris and freeing olgierd from the curse and having back a normal life and heart again , they could finally meet in the afterlife maybe when olgierd dies in this world. if you don't take the rose or free olgierd from gaunter'o dimm then the chances are any of them's gonna be stuck in a different verse than the other depending on the choices. so this was no doubt a very appreciable future forecast from CD projekt making the best of the outcome come possible from the best of the choices
