    This is the perfect tutorial to help me remember how to save all the hard work I've put into my canvas course, and then start fresh with it the next year. I watch this video at the beginning and end of every school year. I almost had a panic attack because I forgot to do this before school got out for summer, but luckily I could still access my old classes, they just weren't on the dashboard anymore. This is so helpful, I've even sent it to other teachers at my school.

Most google/TH-cam searches of "export course content in Canvas" just show you where the buttons are, and what to click, without any explanation of what, exactly, this tool is used for and what it, exactly, exports. Oh, immensely informative and helpful! Once you fully import, is it easy to switch out/ redo/reword assignments, quizzes, and assessments? I'm not such a fool to think students would not try to share information. I am moving towards performance-based assessments to avoid this. I like to think the best of people, of course...

    • @VirtualTeachingPro
      @VirtualTeachingPro  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I have found it very easy to re-work everything after importing it fully. Once you import everything in the class then you have full control to delete, edit, rename, move around, re date, update, etc everything. The best part is that you are not starting from scratch :) Repurposing saves so much time right! What I do is use some of the content as a template to save time and then I have a google doc of various questions, assignments, discussion posts, etc that I pull from to switch it up every semester so the class is never exactly the same. Hope this helps!

    Our district is getting rid of Canvas at the end of this school year.😢 Is there a way to transfer everything to Google Classroom or create a free Canvas and add students manually? I don't want to lose all my modules 😢.

    • @VirtualTeachingPro
      @VirtualTeachingPro  หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      sad day. This is a big shift to be honest. I've done it but it takes lots of time. It's not easy. I need to make a whole video about this. I would not suggest going the free route with Canvas. It is extremely limited and then if you manually add students into it from an institute, district, college, etc you are violating a ton of laws and going down a path of no safety for you and for them. Always stick with the platform the school provides and approves...even if you dislike it. You can't download a canvas course/s and then upload into any other platform. Nothing will transfer in or out if that makes sense. You will want to do this the long way to be honest. Think long term. What do you need to be able to re use all that curriculum development moving forward and how can you create a hub for it all to re purpose on other platforms or in person? That's where I would start. I"ll make a video about this soon. hope that helps a little.

    • @VirtualTeachingPro
      @VirtualTeachingPro  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi there. This is due to the amount of space you have in your account you're trying to migrate the course into. Is it a free account you created on the website? Is it through a school that only allows limited cloud space? I would suggest reaching out the institution you work for that has the Canvas account and ask them how much space is available per course.

    I have imported a class from another instructor into my CANVAS, but some of the photos did not import. I am using an iPad Pro. I have tried turning off, “Prevent cross-site tracking” in Safari, but it did not correct the problem. Note, this only happens in the STUDENT app, not in the TEACHER app. Please advise.

    • @VirtualTeachingPro
      @VirtualTeachingPro  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi there. It could be a number of reasons. Photos and videos are tricky due to copyright, where they originated from, if the instructor used a photo bank to pull from in Canvas, etc. Have you crossed checked it on a desktop or laptop computer on both your instructor view and student view? The mobile app is going to be a little different than the actual platform due to it's nature of being more simple and less functions just because it's the app paired down version.

    • @Wheelpan
      @Wheelpan 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@VirtualTeachingPro Thank you for responding. I have checked it on an iMac and all images show up in the TEACHER and STUDENT apps. I am just guessing at this point.

    Silly question, but what would happen if you imported your saved course into another canvas course that already has information or modules in there?

    • @VirtualTeachingPro
      @VirtualTeachingPro  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      no question is silly in my opinion 😊 I wouldn't suggest importing an entire course into a course that already has info in it as it might override the work you have in there already. I would suggest using the copy course content option for this to pull just want you need into a course.

  • @MWM45

    It appears that my institution does't allow exporting to my personal computer; it just floats out there in the ether until I import to another course for the same institution. I'm currently writing my course this summer with no compensation so I don't feel that they should restrict this. Is there a work-around? I've searched my computer for the *.imscc file with no luck (and by course title). Thank you so much for this informative video :)

    • @MWM45
      @MWM45 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Apparently I have to "Copy" the course within my institution, rather than choosing "Canvas Course Export Package". But still no file I can find for safe keeping.

    • @VirtualTeachingPro
      @VirtualTeachingPro  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Wow, I've never heard of any institution putting that lock on before. It takes so much time to create our classes in a digital format that it should be something we are all allowed to keep and use at any institution or save for our records. It would be like asking us to turn in all of our lecture notes, slides, presentational elements, exams, handouts, etc to the school every class. Seems silly to me. I haven't found another option at this point. What I've done recently is make sure that I keep everything in a google doc for each class in case something likes this turns up. I copy and paste the text from all the pages and format it into a google doc with sections/units/weeks so I can refer back to it if needed. I also keep a private youtube playlist with any videos I reference or use in my online classes so I can find them again if needed to create new links. Document everything so if you do need to re-create an entire class online you can copy and paste most of it.

    • @VirtualTeachingPro
      @VirtualTeachingPro  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      very interesting. They must be wanting you to only use that class you've created within their institution.
