    What more can we ask for? Clear, riveting, a pleasant and well-modulated voice all throughout, properly phased, unhurried, relaxed, well-organized, encouraging, easy-to-follow, and yes, a pedagogy so calming and unintimidating. Thank you, thank you, and ever more thank you from our whole family who will be using Canvas for our homeschool modules.

      Wow, thank you! I sure appreciate this lovely comment and I'm so grateful that I could be of help for your whole family using Canvas for your homeschool modules. I've got an entire series of Canvas tutorials if that might offer any additional support. They are broken down into episodes so you can find a topic that you want to learn more about or find a solution to a new element or even just as inspiration for new teaching modes/methods. Here's the playlist and I'm always adding to it: th-cam.com/play/PLit_70db88TTVKUlrn-xdwO02QtVN5JzP.html

I spent an entire 6 hours of PD watching most of your videos, and it was an excellent use of my time. Seeing you use the tools as you explained them was helpful for a learner like me. Hello Ashlee! I'm a former theatre teacher myself--now a professor of education--who just got thrown into the deep end with Canvas. Although what I'm currently doing is less a course and more like online advising, I really appreciated your presentation, start to finish. Hard for this once-theatre person to give up face-to-face instruction, but you made online understanding, appealing, and, above all, do-able.
    Thanks for being my water-wings!

So glad you found me here!

    • @VirtualTeachingPro
      @VirtualTeachingPro  3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      glad it was helpful! Turning a textbook into a 16 week course can be daunting especially with the online component. If you are required to use the textbook for the course then it would really be a decision on if you are going to move through the text in chapter order as it's laid out or jump around. then, I split it up into units then mid term final exam and a couple of projects. Then I add quizzes or other bench marks as they move through each unit to make sure they are grasping the information. I like a good mix of reading, writing and application driven work so it breaks it up and helps with accessibility. I"ll add this to my video list of tutorials to record if that's helpful.

    Great presentation! I have a technical question. I have to grade assignments on Canvas using Speed Grader, and of course I also need to make corrections and comments, often in the space between lines of student text. Now the default option for font size on my institution’s Canvas page yields text that is unnecessarily large. I have tried clicking on the option for small size but it doesn’t respond appropriately. Can you suggest what I should do? Many thanks in advance.

    Great video. Very helpful and practical tips. Just one question as I am getting started using Canvas for Fall 2022. I have currently imported all of my "course" from Schoology LMS. So I believe I can just make adjustments and not "start from scratch". Correct?

    • @VirtualTeachingPro
      @VirtualTeachingPro  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I’m not sure about transfer from Schoology to Canvas. I know you can do blackboard transfers but I’m not aware of other LMS that you can easily transfer a file into canvas. My guess would be more than likely no but again I’m not positive on this one. You can easily find out by going to import files and seeing if there is an option to upload the file from schoology. I would do this asap bc if you can’t transfer the files then you’d be starting from scratch. Best wishes!

      @@VirtualTeachingPro I have imported all of my modules from Schoology over to Canvas. However, they seem to be "standing alone" and not embedded as your activities are. I am sure there is a step to do this without starting a new "page" for each module, but I am not sure how. I will be needed to be ready to go by Fall 2022. so hopefully I can figure it out by then.

    Another good video. I do think the discussion about the syllabus may be overly complicated. I wanted to add a screen shot here to show what I do, but it doesn't look like I can. In short, rather than posting the text of the syllabus under "syllabus," I just post a link called "PDF of course syllabus" at the top of the syllabus screen (and link to the course file). Then all of the assignments, dates, etc., are listed below and easy to access. I also post the PDF of the syllabus in a module that I call "Syllabus and Other Useful Information."

    • @VirtualTeachingPro
      @VirtualTeachingPro  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi there. I understand what you mean here. I think including a PDF download is a great idea. What I like to do is offer the syllabus in multiple formats so that it is accessible to all students and the way that they best read, digest information. Some students may not be able to open a pdf doc on their device especially mobile devices. Another reason I type in the entire syllabus in the syllabus tab in Canvas is for students that are using the reader function for accessibility. I like to explain it like this: In a face to face course you would hand out the paper syllabus and then read and go over it on the first day of class. In an online course consider uploading the PDF and then explaining it by either including the full text in the section or recording an audio/video file to go over it with the student.

      @@VirtualTeachingPro I see what you're saying here. I don't typically print out a copy of the syllabus even in F2F classes, but I can see that if I did, that might change the approach. Like you, I try to present information in multiple formats and provide different ways to link to it. You've reminded me that I need to keep the mobile app in mind - not just the desktop app. I like using the mobile app, but typically only use it for a quick check in. I'll need to ask students which they use more - the mobile or desktop app.

      At Alamo Colleges in San Antonio, we complete a syllabus template in a program called CONCOURSE and it is automatically uploaded into syllabus.
