James Goodboy hi! You can upload a word doc as a new file into a page that you create into an assignment. I would suggest perhaps copying and pasting the word doc into a page though because the idea is to keep content within Canvas so the students don’t click in and out of the platform plus it remains accessible to all. If it’s an assignment that you’ve already created a word doc with instructions then I would just copy and past it into the text box and just do a little formatting fix as needed. That does save you time by re typing for sure. I hope this offers you some assistance. Let me know if you need a video tutorial on this and I’ll be happy to add it to my list. If you have other questions or if this doesn’t completely answer your questions leave me another comment and I’ll reply ASAP!
@@VirtualTeachingPro Hi Ms Espinosa: Your videos are consistently excellent. I have encountered an interesting issue that comes up from time to time in your recent Canvas tutorials: there are some large floating emoji someone has inserted that obscure large areas of your videos, making it impossible to see the content behind the emoji. I suggest you review a couple of your recent videos as a public viewer, and you'll eventually see what I mean. Keep up the great work!
James Goodboy thanks for your comment and so glad the videos are helpful for you! I actually put the emojis there myself in order to protect my students privacy. Since I use my actual canvas classes for these tutorials, I need to cover my students names, info and grades. I know it covers a portion of the video but it’s the best way I can protect my my students and also help other teachers out there. Thanks for letting me know though! I appreciate your feedback.
I needed this. I've watched this video several times to get my online classes set up. You explain things so well and move at an appropriate pace. You also make me want to watch more musical theater! Thank you so much!
Glad it was helpful! I"m super glad that you now want to watch more musical theater!!! thats a bonus 😀 👏 Hopefully soon we can get back the stage for live performances.
Thank you so much. have been using canvas for a while while groping for the settings and everything.... You really made me understand things more and a lot easier. God bless you
Thank you so much for these videos! I work for a nonprofit where most of our interactions with participants are in person, but now we are switching to Canvas for all of our programs due to COVID-19. These videos have been a huge help to explain Canvas, especially since this is my first time teaching online. I appreciate this and will be sharing with my coworkers!
You are so welcome Katie and thanks for sharing! I'll keep adding to them but let me now if there are any specific topics you need covered right now to get you going and I'll add them to my list. Let me know if I can help!
Thank you so much for sharing all of your knowledge with the world! I am getting ready to use Canvas with my high schoolers and I was muddling through everything, but your videos are super clear and easy to follow. Plus you're adorable and animated, unlike most techie videos. Thank you thank you thank you!
Thank you so so much! I have seen many videos trying to explain Canvas, and you are by far the best. You explain things very well and your voice is very engaging!!
@@VirtualTeachingPro Thank you! I will. I actually was directed to your video by a colleague at my school who posted it as a great resource on our school email. Several people responded how helpful it was.
Thank you for that nice little comment at the end. It was needed. This is great info. I wish I had known about these two weeks ago. Thanks for taking the time to share your knowledge.
Thank you so much! These videos are great! I have been using Canvas for the last few years as an Adjunct but have had to fumble around to figure it out. You make everything very easy to understand :)
This is my 2nd semester with Canvas. It's been a bit overwhelming. I'm better than I was in Aug, but still have a ways to go. How do you create something that will populate in the grading columns? Is it a Module?
Ashlee, Canvas needs to hire you! When I upload an image for my Settings page, it shows upside down in Dashboard. Flipping the picture didn't help? Any suggestions?
Thanks Joann. Let's put it out into the world and maybe they will hear 😉 This is a new one to me! I've never heard of this happening. Not sure how best to offer a solution. If you upload the image and it is right side up then flips after uploading then it sounds like a glitch. Really odd. Sorry I can't be of more help on this one.
thanks so much! Yes, go to the playlist and start at the bottom of the list and work your way up to the most recent ones as they are added. Think of it like working backwards from the top bc I've got it listed as most recent on top and then the bottom is the first one. hope this helps :)
@@VirtualTeachingPro I am old and completely new to youtube...where exactly is your playlist...on the right hand side there are tons of videos but they have lots of different people...not just yours

Why should "pages" not be visible? Isn't that where a lot of stuff is? Sorry I'm confused. Thanks for these videos. So much better for me than what I've had before.
This is a great question. I think it's a personal choice really. I prefer to keep it hidden for the student bc I don't want to confuse them as to what to read and where to go during the semester/quarter. I want them to go to the modules and work through it as I release them. To me, making the pages tab visible allows them to see the entire class at one time and I don't want them to get overwhelmed. Totally up to you though! Do what works best for you and your class :)
Did you go into the quiz settings and adjust the quiz points and set it at a graded quiz? I did a video on this if that helps th-cam.com/video/EH0vovCSEKc/w-d-xo.html
Look at the top right hand corner of your screen inside canvas and see if you have a small square icon with glasses on it that says student view when you place your mouse over it. Canvas has updated recently so student view has transition a little since this video. hope this helps!
@@marcusabston6365 totally agree with you here. I feel like ever week there are new updates which is great don't get me wrong but I wish they would supply more info on the updates and roll outs to all users. You can go to their website and see it but it's hard to find and is usually in text format.

Hi Ashlee: May I import existing Word documents into Canvas to become new Assignments. It would eliminate a lot of unnecessary re-typing.

Hey Ashlee, thorough video. How do I "turn on" the pen in assignments so my students can work directly from Canvas?
I'm not sure about this one. Normally it auto turns on for them as long as you set up the assignment for them to write in the box.

Why does the feature still have the crossed out eye if it is listed as included under notifications?
