- Rahman calls him ‘Praaji’ for more than 20 years now. It means elder brother. That was probably one of the very first Punjabi words Rahman learnt from Subhash Ghai.
Much before Taal, Mr.Ghai had predicted, “One day Rahman will be an international music composer.” The showman of Hindi films finds Rahman’s music ‘divine’.
Rahman responds - that he learnt a lot from Mr. Ghai, who opened up the multilayered world of Hindi Film Music for him.

Rahman's hindi music is great. But his compositions in his home Tamil are out of the world.
language has nthing to do with his Composing Talent.......
he can compose in Tribal Language also
he knows mussssic language....
Many north Indians would not even know ARR composed "Thiruda Thiruda", "Duet" which are one of the best albums of ARR. They are one of the most fav albums of ARR for Tamil people.

Taal is a great album, but Rangeela is even more classier and evergreen

Subash ghai is a real fan of Rahman whose favourite album is Bombay which is not his film.

Lolz. I understand why subhash ji advised him to learn hindi but always remember that Rahman gave us albums like rangeela, bombay(1995) and dil se(1998) without learning hindi so......... taal was 1999.
Taal jaise gaane, jo hai, ki aaj tak saare film ke gaane se alang dang ka hai, different compose tricks.
flops of a r rehman is one topic you could cover. Typically rehman reinvents evry 6,7 years.Its around that time his albums sounded subpar. First zone for him was till taal where he let go of south indian arrangements,this continued till takshak. in 2004ish he tried more hip hop style,say album boys.May be it was due to his exposure to west via bombay dream .But that time many flops like 1 2 ka 4 or lakeer came from him.Thia zone continued till 2015ish say slumdog era. where he reinvented but again flops like dil bechara or common wealth song or now mimi .Even songs of yashrajs jab tak hi jaan were not his mark.The song heer sounded repeat of his old songs or say saans me teri saans mili to is almost same to kismat se tum from pukar.But this not to find fault,the switch over process is tough. If you listen to latest heropanti 2 song they sound like vishal shekahr.It would be daring and revealing to know what he or his arrangers think of this transitions and how he deals with such ordinary sounds.

A.R.Rahman doesnot know. Because he is a pure tamilan. Without knowing of hindi, he got success in hindi industry.
At 14:12 you gave credits to Sonu and Sujatha Mohan. This song is actually by Hariharan. Nahi saamne tu
why is there not a interview with Barathiraja, as much i love /dislike the directors featured here, i feel hes head and shoulders above them. also hes done 3/4 films with ar...all of them extraordinary. For a taste : "chanda suraraj " by nusret is actually from karuthamma- a film about female infanticide.
Kindly remove those songs in the middle. They are literally killing the soul of the original compositions.
