- "Religion is like music, they both have a soul and that is melody," says the award-winning Indian composer A R Rahman. In this episode, filmed in Rajasthan's Ajmer Sharif, Rahman reveals the story behind his love for Sufi music and how it has influenced his compositions. This humble singer who broke records with his songs in the Tamil film 'Roja' has set a new trend of harmonizing western classical music with lyrics for Indian songs of various languages. He has harnessed his love for new technology to generate tunes that are loved by listeners from all age groups. This show was aired in 2004, and since then Rahman's work has only gone higher and higher. Decidedly, he is one of the best musicians India has produced in the 20th century, and probably will remain one of the best for a large part of the 21st.

That question is akin to asking "Had Md. Yusuf Khan not changed his name to Dilip Kumar, would he have been as successful?"
For that you have to create another Rahman who is raised as a Hindu. Which is not possible, anytime soon. So, nobody can prove anything. All we may say is his (their) religious affiliation did not stop him (them) from achieving greatness.
Pt Ravi Shankar achieved greatness in the world of classical music, and put Sitar as an instrument on the global map. His legacy is so rich, and love for music so strong - that both his daughters (from different wives) have carved out a distinguished career for themselves in the area of music. viz., Anoushka Shankar and Norah Jones.
Are you joking . AR Rahman was at his best during 1992 to 2003. After 2004 he has been trying different things but he wasnt the same Rahman of 90s
@@thebittertruthaboutindia2136 What you are mentioning is Rahman vs Rahman but I was comparing Rahman vs. Others.. where his music has only become better. Most other are probably not even in the race...and all others are behind even if in the race. Dude has 3+1 studios. One in LHR, one in BOM, one in LAX and a mini studio in MAA (Chennai.) His associated acts are also very diverse and melodious. Like new age but in rythm.
The only artist with houseful shows from LAX to DXB to BOM and SYD. I attended his Sydney concert in 2010 and the show was houseful. Wanted to attend in 2017 at the last moment but show was full 2-3 days in advance. Plus, he did not win Academy award before 2004..so that adds up big time. Regardless of whether you recognise Academy Awards or not, the whole world does.
@@user_1abc I am sure in all his concerts it was his pre 2003 songs that were permormed more and were applauded the laudest. Anyhow, I am no one to judge ARR. I just gave my opinion and perhaps what most of hia fans also feel.

He is humble because of his circumstances. His father died when hes young and he was from lower middle class. Besides he was shy too. Islam never made him humble. For that fact religion never makes anyone humble. Humility is a function of a persons personality and his experiences.

As far as I know “certain sufis” go to graves and worship certain dead people (who cannot help them in any way), many sufis dance and sing claiming to worship ALLAH.
WE are supposed to worship only ALLAH. We are supposed to ask only ALLAH for help and protection. We must not invent in matters of the Deen. We must follow the Sunnah. We must worship ALLAH directly and according to the manner ALLAH approved which you can read about in the Qur’aan and the Sunnah.

Is bande ne islam ki spirit ko kitne aasaan lafzon me samjhaya. ek insaan ki pehchaan maa se hi hoti hai, woh maa hi hai jo batasakti hai ke koi bacha hai to kis ka hai, haraami ke halaali hai. Isi wajah se har mazhab me maa ka darja bada hota hai, us hud tak ke maa ke pairon ke neeche jannat hoti hai, use swarg kaho ya phir heavens utlimately maa ke khadmon ke neeche hai to utna bada hai makhaam maa ka. Har insaan jab identify kiya jaata hai woh hai land or language aur donon ka identification bhi maa hi se hai, that is why it is called mother land and mother language. Aur jab maa ka darja itna buland hai to maa ko salaam kehne me kyun sharm kare hoi aur is me shariyat kahan se aagayi, maa ke rutbe ko samjhaane ke liye quran me infinite verses hain aur prophet Mohammed ke practices and sayings me bhi indefinite examples milenge aur yeh half baked mullah log aur saale corrupt politicians "vande maatram" yaani maa tujhe salaam kehne me sharmate aur katraate hain aur har ek cheez ko controversial banate hain aur ek tamasha khada karte hain. so i dont think any muslim should feel ashamed in saying salaam to his mother be it the biological or spiritual or the mother who brought you up and mother land which bore your burden, which gives you shelter, food and security and opportunity to live a life and the language which you learnt to speak for the first time. Be proud to say salaam to your mother (which ever and who ever she is) and be the first to say so.
Just an example how ever good or bad a person may be if he is abused on his mothers name, he gets upset and he can go to the extent of getting into a verbal fight or fist fight with the other person even without realising the consequences because mother holds such a place in anyone's life, that is the reason if any person wants to hurt anybody with words they tend to abuse in the name of mother (maa ki gaali dete hain).
Now coming to the drama these politicians from both sides are making out of this pure spirit called "vande maatram", first thing please do not politicise the spirit of love of mother, second is it comes out of the depth of the heart and cannot be forced, third if a person cant respect his own mother (be it biological or land or language), just imagine kitna bud kismat aur budbakht hoga wo insaan jo apni maa ki izzat karne me ghalat fikr aur mazhab ka sahara leta hai aur jabke uske ya balke har ek mazhab me maa ki izzat karna ek farz or kartavya hai.

I respected Ar Rahman sir, the Words of Hazrat Moulana Roam he says, there is lot ways of truth but,which i have selected the way is called Love, means its clearly shows that SUFISUM is the true way of ISLAM because its shows and follow only LOVE and its wont allows the caste, religions etc.

Muhammad prophet also meditated to feel the angel Gabriel so u know Sufism show's the path of meditation to get to allah or his angels and get their true teaching. It a transcend state in which u only worship Allah rather than following any person or book 🙏
