  • Recently I had some service done on my truck, a 2007 Chevy Trailblazer. It has the 4.2L inline 6 cyl engine. After the service I noticed the idle was really rough. After some investigation it was determined that the throttle body needed to be cleaned. This is an easy process to do.

      Im inquiring why she was having voltage issues and hiw this relates with the throttle body cleaning ? I also have the misfire coil 1 issue . And alternator and voltage all over the place ..i cleaned the battery ground connections , battery firewall. Fuse box . And both fenders with three grounds on the drivers side and one passenger side . Check contintinuity on cyclnder head next to coils and nothing ..check the ground strap passenger side has contintinuity . Hmm . Hook batteru back up and fired it up and .now only seeing 12.79 while runninvat the battery. Im going to clean all the positive connections now .. i also cleaned the two grounds on the rear drivers side frame rail next to the tire carrier .. i think im also going to change plugs out , while i clean the throttle body .. im super duper inquiring about the voltage issue ?

      Do you remove the positive terminal from the battery THEN the remove fuses for 15-30 minutes? Or do I leave the battery plugged in and remove the fuses

    • @tdmfan750
      @tdmfan750 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@benitesw321 I know i'm a year late here, but just remove the fuses for the 15 or so minutes. you remove the fuses to "simulate" the PCM losing battery power, without running the risk of damaging your HVAC system. These trucks are, from what I hear, notorious for damaging the mode door actuator because of the way it slams between settings when battery power has been disconnected and reconnected. Any GM techs or H.B.W. can chime in on this though with more detail. That's just what I've heard through the grape vines.

    Just an update from my previous comment, this didnt solve my problem (but probably didnt help cause the throttle body was filthy) but this video was very helpful. My harness was on the back not the side so was harder to see(also I'm 5'3 so didnt help lol) I dismounted the throttle body so that I could look at the connector at a different angle, I could then see the prong that needed to be push. I had to push it in with a screwdriver and pull with my hands but with the pressure from the screwdriver it was nothing. Good luck to all with filthy throttle bodies and with trailblazers

    Thank you video was very helpful. I too received one of those recall letter for the TB sensor from chevy. I did everything you explained today....I disconnected the battery before replacing the throttle body and sensor on a 08 chevy upland 3.9 flex fuel. I am experiencing rough idle now other then that the van is operating excellent. I do want to add that I was battling a ck engine light for some time with code P0174 (BANK 1 LEAN) Prior to this work done I had replaced all 02 sensors with no luck also tested for leaking fuel injector which tested negative. So I'm going to take your advice and be patient and see if computer recalculates for the roughness

    I was getting codes p506 and p1400 on my 2007 trailblazer. Took about 45 minutes to remove the throttle body and clean it.
    I left the codes alone before I cleaned it. After cleaning and reconnecting the battery the codes had cleared.
    Truck runs as if it were new.
    The bolt on the throttle body that is on bottom close to firewall is the toughest to remove. I found it easier just to break it loose with the socket and finger remove it.

    Awesome video! I have a question my 2005 Trailblazer LS i6 with 104,000. I got it from my grandma since she want to down size her vehicles. So i change front, rear differential fluid, transfer case fluid and soon m going to do the transmission flush (not with the flush machines) i also replace sparkplugs, and belts. anyway my TB does not idle rough or giving me any sign of weird RPM BUT it dies on me twice when i shift into REVERSE from parking.. i was like what the heck...... so some say throttle body some say sensors.. just wondering what you u recommand that? Thanks

    • @homebuiltshop
      @homebuiltshop  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      You could try cleaning the Mass Airflow Sensor with some sensor safe MAF cleaner, otherwise cleaning the Throttle Body might be an option. You might see if you can read any engine codes that may be stored in the PCM. Maybe there will be a clue in there.

      @nojunkwork5735 that's not what I mean. It's only happened twice now since I bought it but it was like the pedal was dead I put it to the floor or even just press it down and nothing happened zero throttle input was being registered. Since I posted this comment it hasn't happened. The only thing that happens now is my damn battery keeps dying. I had a code. Can't remember the number but it said something about the car not registering when it's on or off. Which is annoying but I only paid 500 bucks for it so I can't really complain.

      Joe Dye if any is sticking out maybe so.e vice grips could get hold of it. If it's flush you'll probably have to drill it out and use a screw extractor. I don't know how hard it will be to get to though. Good luck with it.

    • @johnmuller5403

      He is WRONG! You do take out them fuses BEFORE you start taking off ANYTHING! That way the computer does not have to relearn it'self .

    • @flap0000
      @flap0000 7 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      You are right, but it's not so that the computer doesn't have to relearn things...You must disconnect the fuses and reconnect them SO THAT IT DOES RELEARN how to run properly with the NOW CLEAN throttle body.

    I cleaned my throttle body and reinstalled and now there's a lack of acceleration. I try to pull out into a turn and give gas and there's nothing but regular pull. I have to push to the floor to trigger acceleration and then let off to get more speed. Is there something else I should do? Should I unplug the battery for a long time? Will that help?

      Not exactly sure, but I heard something about a throttle relearn combo. Something along the lines of turn vehicle on, turn off. Turn to aux power, off again. Fully press gas pedal 3x and turn on. Then do about 45 mins highway driving.
      Like I said, not sure if it's actually a thing, but may be worth looking into. Or just take it to a shop and ask for an idle reset. Unfortunately, I also heard you need a more specialized scanner in order to initiate the idle reset. But, hopefully that's all you need.
      Dirty O2 sensors can also cause TB's to go into limp mode while driving. Basically RPM drops while you're driving. Which can be scary, but relatively cheap fixes. You can even take them all off and soak them to fix em on up.
      Would def try that before potentially spending a fortune on cat conv.
