Great job nice DIY video.. My car would shut off when I turn on the AC.. and this was exactly the problem.. it started when I had removed my battery plugs to replace my stereo to an aftermarket.. The car started fine afterwards and idle good but I went to turn on the AC and it started jumpin a bit after 2-3 times it would shut off.. at first I thought I wired something wrong so I switched the radio back to OEM.. but the same problem kept arising.. turns out the CPU was reading dirty throttle.. this helped so much and saved me money.. my trailblazer was shuting down while driving, so I cleaned my throttle body but I didnt spray like crazy in this video. mo more stalling but my engine light is still on. im very happy that cleaning the throttle body this way helped. i think i just have to get the light reset with a code reader or whatever. i found out u shouldnt just disconnect the battry in trailblazers to reset the light. anyway thanks for the guide.

Thanks. One point opening the throttle plate by hand is ok but don't open it too much and don't let it slam shut this can change the air gap in the plate n throttle body Good info on your post.
It could be solenoid vvt, oxygen, crankshft or camshaft sensor. Replaced everything and found out my sensors were bad. Throttle body was first thing I replaced. 2004 trailblazer. I looked up 10 top problems with first generation trailblazers.
You should never push open a throttle body! Doing this can damage the electric motor that opens it when the accelerator pedal is pushed. Instead, have a helper turn the key to ON without starting the engine, and hold the pedal down or use a heavy object to do so.
Removing it is the best way to get the job done because you can access all parts of the throttle blade and body. But you really don't need to do this every time you clean it. Once you have removed it and done a thorough cleaning, if you keep up with regular maintenance type cleaning it should not be necessary to remove it every time.

I'm going to do it that way but would like to add that without removing it from the manifold all that dirt spray is going into your cylinders and what doesn't burn is going into your catalytic converter. I wonder how many cleaning it would take to plug the cat causing an expensive replacement to be necessary. Oh and does it effect the upstream o2 sensor. But... Just had a friend come to me with rough idle/stalling. As it has over 200,000 miles on it I decided to check a few things before assuming anything. Turns out the spark plugs were Way Past due to be replaced (gap was nearly .80 instead of .42) And they were the wrong plugs. Almost 1/2” short!!! In addition I found a vacuum leak and an intermittent coil pack. Runs like a bandit now! So, before getting knee deep in a repair always verify the simple stuff.
Hi I’m just a DIYer I’ve got Trailblazer LS ‘06 but don’t have shop is there a way to replace spark plugs/coils at home? After how’d you get the engine light off without? Thanks!
Hey my auto mechanic, do you know where I can purchase an inexpensive code reader? I also have a 2006 Chevy Trailblazer and it is currently having the same exact issue. I noticed in this video that you disconnected the battery to reset the idling, unfortunately this will not reset the check engine light. Do you have any suggestions. thats just one I HAVE MILLIONS lol, hope you Respond. I just found your channel, THANK YOU
In case you're still dealing with that issue, it could be a case of a failed stepper motor in the cluster. A cheap scan tool should be able to tell you if your engine is reaching temperature or not. After like the 05 model year they changed the type of stepper motors, so an 08 should have the much more reliable ones, but anything can fail. I've also had the gasket internal to the thermostat fail and the engine never reached 200*, but if that gasket fails worse than mine did I suppose it might never reach 100*.
I heard it's a bad to disconnect the battery terminals can it mess up the heat controls cause mine the adjustments are off just bought it mine is a 06 ls trailblazer great video mine does this sometimes an my light is on. to
If you turn the hvac sytem to off you shoukdnt have that problem. Ive disconnected battery several times never affects it. Some people just cant seem to be bothered to turn it off before turning off engine. It creates less of a strain when starting engine.
Bad Coil it's misfiring my Trailblazer did that go down the road the check engine light would flash off and on plus my Cruise Control would not work scanned it was #2 coil changed it the light stayed off and cruise control worked again

I have an 06 with a rough idle on start and sometimes at stop lights. Code is the timing solenoid sensor. Also going to try this, but I think the valve seats are worn too. Another issue I have is sometimes it does no start (no crank at all), till I tap the shifter, then it'll start. Anyone have an idea what that is?
Maybe the neutral safety switch is causing the no start issue. Try starting it in neutral if that works better it may need a new neutral safety switch or an adjustment of the switch.
I have a trailblazer, it’s rough at idle then dies smells nasty to. I cleaned the throttle body still has the issue. Do you have any tips you can share ???
I have a 2005 Chevy Trailblazer 2.4L 2WD. I had a very rough idle condition and replaced the camshaft sensor, crankshaft sensor, spark plugs, variable valve timing solenoid, air filter, spark plugs, cleaned the throttle body, and replaced all of the coils. It took car of the rough idle when I replaced the coils, but now I get a stall condition with no rough idle when idling at a light on occasion. There are no codes, they all went away. Should I replace the MAP sensor?

Take the throttle body off to fully clean it. Not sure what "problems" he could be referring to. It is unhooking on connector, 1 hose and 4 bolts that are all easy to get to. To get it really clean you will need something like a tooth brush to really get all the carbon off. It takes maybe 5-10 extra minutes but it will look brand new and work much better. The back side of the throttle body will look much much dirtier than the front.
Great video. I have a 2000 Ford Taurus Duratec Engine. Engine light was not on but I got a smog check and was told car did not pass due to engine code P0506. After the smog check the engine light is now on. Funny thing is the tachometer says the car is idyling at 900 rpm which indicates to me the car is not idyling too slow. So, how could the computer think it is idyling too slow? What could be causing this code?
Did i mess up moving the throttle body? I unplugged the battery and waiting 1 hour but I’ve seen a few people say to never move it and now im panicking lol
I just bought my 2004 Envoy knowing it would need some work. After taking a 600 mile trip it started running rough and would often stall at red lights. Then I noticed as I was traveling at the posted 45mph speed the engine was accelerating to 45 and then coasting to about 42-43mph, and then back again. A mechanic suggested I start by cleaning the throttle body. Then I found that the fuse box under the hood had been burnt. Both solid state relays were ruined and a couple mini relays were welded together, and many others looked to be in bad shape. I've replaced all of that - the box and most of the relays and fuses. Sounded bad when I restarted the engine. My code said that the 3rd cylinder (4.2 I6) was misfiring. So I replaced that coil pack and all the spark plugs. Sounds worse now. My code said the 3rd cylinder (4.2 I6) was misfiring. I replaced that coil pack and all the spark plugs. The new code from the scanner says 'Random / Multiple Cylinder Misfiring Detected'. I think my SUV will need to do more than just relearn how to idle. Please help.

I cleaned my throttle body a few days ago by removing and using throttle body cleaner and now my truck is driving very rough.. It was quiet and smooth before so i dont know what happened.. Any idea?
I'm working on an 05 trailblazer. It has the reduced power light on which is the engine with a down arrow in it. Not sure if the catalytic converter will cause this problem or something else. I checked fuses, they are all good, but it definitely runs rough, and is completely under powered. It won't even rev up even a little bit. Any suggestions would be great, thank you!

Hi I’m just a DIYer I’ve got Trailblazer LS ‘06 but don’t have shop/code reader, how’d you get the engine light off later without? Thanks!
I’m Trying This Same Thing With Mine It Would Take A While To Run Up Thanks A lot
Do I disconnect before I clean the throttle body or after...? The battery post I mean
Any update?
Excellent info thanks. My question is about engine check light. It comes on and off periodically with a minor pause for about 1-2 seconds
Any ideas?
Bad Coil it's misfiring my Trailblazer did that go down the road the check engine light would flash off and on plus my Cruise Control would not work scanned it was #2 coil changed it the light stayed off and cruise control worked again
@@kennethfillmoreCoolCatKenHey Ken I’m just a DIYer I’ve got Trailblazer LS ‘06 but don’t have shop/code reader, how’d you get the light off without? Also is Coil change possible at home job or does this absolutely need to be done in a shop? Thanks!
Worked perfectly, thank you!
Thanks for winderful vid..
Kindly guide how to get rid of engine maintenance light??If it still remain after throttle body cleaned.thanks
Hey did you get an answer?
@Planetjayy not yet ... appreciate if you help
I have a trailblazer, it’s rough at idle then dies smells nasty to. I cleaned the throttle body still has the issue. Do you have any tips you can share ???
Thanks for your help really knowledgeable
I have a 2005 Chevy Trailblazer 2.4L 2WD. I had a very rough idle condition and replaced the camshaft sensor, crankshaft sensor, spark plugs, variable valve timing solenoid, air filter, spark plugs, cleaned the throttle body, and replaced all of the coils. It took car of the rough idle when I replaced the coils, but now I get a stall condition with no rough idle when idling at a light on occasion. There are no codes, they all went away. Should I replace the MAP sensor?
Hey I'm working on a 2004 Buick it has the same motor as a trailblazer in this video that you just did and I cleaned out the throttle body I've replayed I've replaced it and I cleaned it out and I'm still having a horrible idol issue I don't know what else that I can do to maybe to solve my problem can you help me
Do more On 07 Trail blazers
I think it's the same across the board. I have an 07' Trailblazer LT that is throwing the same code P0506.
@@bandittweintraub essentially yes they are slight differences biggest being the upgrade to the 4.2 early ones took 7qts and made like like 275hp the later ones were 295-300hp and a 6qt engine
@@swaggin123425 you have it backwards.. My 07 takes 7 qts oil
@@bandittweintraub so does my 04, some of the later ones had 6qt capacities, dunno why probably related to markets, possibly aftermarkets maybe.
I have done exactly as you directed on this video but the rough idle continues and the check engine light is still on.What next can I do?
May be your spark plugs which is pretty easy to change
@@lamarbrooks1460 Hi I’m just a DIYer I’ve got Trailblazer LS ‘06 but don’t have shop/code reader, how’d you get the light off without? Is changing spark plugs easy to do at home with a good guide? Thanks!
Problem with the video you didn't say what the idle supposed to be on those before you did it and after
I disconnected the battery terminals after cleaning, is that an issue?
Great video. I have a 2000 Ford Taurus Duratec Engine. Engine light was not on but I got a smog check and was told car did not pass due to engine code P0506. After the smog check the engine light is now on. Funny thing is the tachometer says the car is idyling at 900 rpm which indicates to me the car is not idyling too slow. So, how could the computer think it is idyling too slow? What could be causing this code?
I'm guessing you junked the car by now. Don't know why there's no responses.
Anyhow I really suspect your problem was a fouled EGR valve.
i got a 06 trailblazer but i only seem to have idle problems when it gets cold out (under 40f) any tips if this doesn't work?
Any luck?
I have a 2004 trailblazer and it runs ideleslower then it should did all you did and still is rough
All these TB has the same problem bro I am going to try to clean mine
Is there a way to get codes without a reader? Having some issues with an 01 gmc envoy. Its a flip car so I don't want to purchase a reader as i won't be holding on to the vehicle.
I cleaned my throttle body a few days ago by removing and using throttle body cleaner and now my truck is driving very rough.. It was quiet and smooth before so i dont know what happened.. Any idea?
Hey partner did you ever resolve your problem?
Update?
My mechanic turned me on to ur page thank him too lol
Hi My 2005 Trailblazer seem losing power without code or rough idle . What problem do I need to do?
I'm working on an 05 trailblazer. It has the reduced power light on which is the engine with a down arrow in it. Not sure if the catalytic converter will cause this problem or something else. I checked fuses, they are all good, but it definitely runs rough, and is completely under powered. It won't even rev up even a little bit. Any suggestions would be great, thank you!
I had that and it was the throttle body. I took it off and cleaned it thoroughly and it fixed the issue

This really helps. I have a question. I have an 02 trailblazer. When im driving at night and use the right turn signal the high neams come on what could be the problem?
Smart switch bad
Your blinker/high beam switch is no bueno.
I did all you showed , but forgot to disconnect the battery and reset the idle. I still have the rough idle, should I reset by disconnecting the battery?
Update?
I noticed that when I pulled the air box off there was some fuel inside. Where is it coming from?
Thanks for sharing.👍
I have a question when I turn my ac my battery gauge begins to drain any idea that can be
If the throttle body is not removed, wouldn't the engine suck in the crud and soil particles when it is started?
I have an 03 trailblazer. I replace the throttlebody the air filter and a lot of other things under the hood. I’ve even added a K & N Exhaust kit to the fix. My idol is still low. I’ve changed gas filters and everything else they have to do with gas. No none of this is making any sense
Did you figure out the problem ?
Damn't! My shop rags aren't red! 🤪
Would it be ok to use starting fluid to clean the Throttle body
Definetly not!!! It could remove the protective film that is on the Throttle Body......Then the computer sensor will be way off and idle will be worse
@@gguilliams14 well that was close. I decided not to try it and went and bought throttle body cleaner and didn't see your reply till I got home lol. Thanks for the advice 😃
Very good típ.
Tanks!!
I had to replace my cam position sensor. After doing so I started my 2004 chevy trailblazer 4.2 and it ran really rough. I tried putting it in reverse but didn't sound good so I put it in park and shut it off. What can I do? I don't have a code reader and I'd rather not move it because I'm afraid it's really going to take a dump
Did you end up figuring it out ?

This clean up would help with the stalling issue of this model right?
