    I’m in Canada and have made thousands of butter tarts for restaurants over the years and am known as the Queen of butter tarts . Mine are similar in ingredients however method is different. As a Canadian it’s fun to see you enjoying a favourite dessert of ours. 🇨🇦

      I have used the back of the muffin tins for tarts, but didn't get the bottoms of the tarts completely flat, so i feel it would be important to get the tops of the upside down crusts completely flat, if that makes sense. If I make this, I will cover the back of muffin pans with the pie crust, cover the whole pan with one sheet of waxed paper, then set a flat cookie sheet on the waxed paper and press down very lightly. Remove cookie sheet and waxed paper before baking.

      No vinegar lemon juice is great as it enhances the flavor gives it such a fresh taste. I also use vanilla paste instead of vanilla extract that I make myself. Also, I use pecans instead of walnuts and I also add raisins but not a whole lot because if you add too many, it becomes overwhelming, I hope this helps you

    • @katdunn7934
      @katdunn7934 3 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      @Sueloon thank you. 😊 I love lemon, but I'm not sure I want them in my butter tarts. Just by going with the taste from what I tried from the Canadian bakery. It was more pecan pie flavored, without the pecans. I have never tried it with raisins, but I bet it is delicious as well. Definitely will try in my next batch. Speaking of vanilla paste, how much would you use in place of vanilla extract? I'm currently making my own vanilla extract for the very first time, which started in August. I didn't know you could make your own vanilla paste. I'm going to have to check that out! 😀

I tried this recipe and we both loved them. Our church has a 15 minute break between Sunday school and church and we always have coffee and a snack in that time. Today was my turn to bring the snack and I made these tarts. They were a big hit, everyone loved them!

We usually just meet up with them on a trip adventure but the Butter Tart Trail in northern Ontario sounds like an adventure in and of itself. So we might need to go visit them at home and follow the trail. Love things like that. We walked 12 miles once in Seattle following a Donut trail and sampling goodies along the way. That was a blast and I'm confident that after all that walking, we had used up the calories consumed in donuts!

    My mother was Canadian. So on her son we had generations of Canadians in the recipe for butter tarts past down. My great aunt butter tarts were fantastic. The back in the day they didn’t use the Cannes in Canada especially northern Canada instead. Instead they used walnuts. They didn’t put that many nut pieces in each butter tart maybe onetwo or three and maybe one or two raisins. Also, the recipe for the crust always used lard. Butter tarts are runny. And so Delicious. So anyways I know you did a lot of research and things have changed over the years. The recipe that I’m referring to is well over 100 years old so what you made is very good and congratulations on your discovery. Bakewell.

    That Butter dough is my favorite of all the doughs. I make a dessert using it. I make it like you did except for this recipe I add into the dough very finely chopped Pecans (almost a powder consistency) then bake the dough in a muffin pan. Next, let completely cool. Fill them with Pistachio Pudding Mix. Add additional finely chopped Pecans to the top of the Pudding and top with Cool Whip whipped topping. It's a great dessert and for Christmas used Red Sprinkles on top of the Cool Whip for that traditional Christmas Red and Green theme. Refrigerate until ready to serve. Try it, its great yummy goodness 😋 👍. I'll be trying yours too.

Not sure how far south it goes but here in the Toronto area it includes many communities. Well worth the trip. Lulu, I know there is a huge debate in Canada over whether nuts or raisins belong in Butter Tarts. I love the nuts, but I've never tried them with raisins. I have had them with no nuts or raisins and I thought those were good too. Our friends, Shawn and Cristina almost always spoil us by bringing a box of Butter Tarts when they're passing through Kentucky or when we cruise together. We are HUGE Butter Tart fans!

      Canadian here too.
      I wouldn’t make butter tarts with just raisins; but together with an equal amount by weight of nuts (I use walnuts generally) that are delicious.
      I don’t understand the widespread hatred of raisins, but to each his own.
      They are also amazing in apple pie or apple crisp, too. Especially with the walnuts also added.

    • @katdunn7934
      @katdunn7934 4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @janetmccool4801 this is the filling ingredients list.
      220 grams light brown sugar (heaping 1 cup, packed)
      1/2 tsp salt (3 grams)
      2 eggs
      1 tsp white vinegar (5 grams)
      1 tsp vanilla extract (5 grams)
      1/4 cup unsalted butter, melted (57 grams/4 Tbsp)
      optional 1/4 cup raisins, soaked and patted dry
      optional 1/2 cup pecans, toasted
      So cutting the vinegar would make a difference. It really did taste pretty good. My family enjoyed them while I want to cut the vinegar or remove it altogether. Lol.

    I am originally from Ontario Canada but now I’m in British Columbia Canada. I grew up eating butter tarts and had them with raisins, pecans, walnuts and on occasion only with the goo or goo and coconut if my mom was out of nuts or raisins. I’m not a raisin lover but I like raisins in butter tarts. I find the tart filling very sweet so I don’t put sugar in the crust and I use shortening instead of butter. I’ve used maple syrup or agave for the liquid sweeter but I’ve never used corn syrup like my mother. Instead of a pecan tart I’ve made pecan squares and for those I have used light brown sugar and butter in my crust a little different from my tarts. I guess it’s more of a shortbread crust for the squares. The squares are good served warm with ice cream and a tad of whipped cream.
