Those cinnamon pinwheels were a real treat when I was a kid. My dad was from matawatchan in Ontario and my grandmother would make them. I didn’t know anyone else who had these. I still use scraps to make them.
I grew up with butter tarts regularly served when my great grand parents would come to visit. This was during the early sixties. I make my own now among other treats introduced to me by my parents.😊 I don't wait for my wife to bake.
This has its origins in Scotland and France. The ones that I make have dried fruit and no nuts or vinegar. We make them at Yule with a little water icing and a piece of glace cherry on top to make them look festive. Birdy
Yumm.. I thought you were Canadian, now I know! I’m in the states but have family in Canada so have enjoyed butter tarts. Thank you! Need to make these for my hubby.
I have been looking for a good video to make better tarts here in the Dominican Republic, I think I just found the perfect video, thank you I will be making butter tarts tonight 😊
Hi there! Yes...I would bake them a bit longer so there is not as much of a jiggle in the centre when you pull them out. Also, I find when I use all light brown sugar instead of a combination of light and dark brown sugar, they set up a bit more as well. Hope that helps! 😊
Thank you so much ❤️ I finally found the right recipe 😋 I'm going to make them I can't wait. Blessings ❤ I just subscribe to your channel can't wait to see what else is happening 🙏 🙌 blessings ❤
Hi Val! Thank you very much for watching and for your kind message! I'm very glad it worked for you as pastry can be a pain in the butt! I find this recipe very easy to work with...I'm glad you did too! Take care and have a lovely day!
Hi Alana excellent video again, we used to help my mum cook when we were youngsters, Christmas was the best all the different tarts, mince pies, and my favourite small sausage rolls, good memories, your tarts look delicious i hope James enjoyed them, enjoy the rest of your week take care and stay safe 👍 😊.
Hi Kelvin! I bet the kitchen at your home smelled just divine at Christmas time...so many fond memories! My Dad just loved mince tarts...they were his favourite!! MY mother in law is from Scotland and she makes really good sausage rolls too! I wasn't hungry when I sat down to type this out but now I am! Take care and have a lovely day! 🌺
Thanks a bunch. Even here in Michigan a buttter tart is impossible to find. I usually break down and make a dozen once the snow flies. Our mom would also make those cinnamon, brown sugar wheels with the left over pastry .. and me and my brothers would fight tooth and nail over them 😂
This is something I will do this week Alana. I have most of my kids coming this week for Thanksgiving which in the States is 24th of November here in the States
Hi Geri...I hope you are doing well! I also hope your Thanksgiving was lovely with your family and I bet the food was amazing! Take care and have a great day!
@@alanacawker-therusticwife thanks Alana. My mom, Diane and her husband will be here next week and stay for Christmas so I will be making more butter tarts!!
Great video. I do enjoy a butter tart that is a little runny. What are your thoughts about substituting the corn starch for more maple syrup? Thank you, Debbie
@djss7122 Hi there...thank you very much for watching! You can substitute the corn syrup for all maple syrup if you like! They turn out a little more runny but that sounds like it is right up your alley anyway! You can always bake them a little longer to set the eggs a little more in the filling the next time if you find them too runny. I hope that helps...have a great evening!
Good morning! Butter Tarts are really good...they were my Dad's favourite and my husbands too! I think if you were to make these into a single crust pie, you would need to add another egg and bake a little longer to help it set up, similar to a pecan pie or an old fashioned vinegar pie. Also, I don't usually par bake my pastry before making the tarts or a pecan pie, so I would think it would be safe to not par bake before trying this recipe in a pie shell vs tart shells. Just a warning...the tarts are quite sweet and as tarts, there is more of a balance of pastry to filling than if it would be put into a pie. It might be sugar overload! 😄 I hope that helps! Thank you for watching and I hope you have a great day! 🌻
Man they look good 👍🏻 I don’t believe that you and your brother fought ever! Me and my siblings never fought!!Plus your mom would probably have baked an abundance of treats for you guys on a regular basis 😋 I guess you and Brad where just a pair of brats like the rest of us .lol
Thank you Billy! Oh yes...believe it or not, we had our scuffles! I can't even imagine if there were more of him like you had to contend with! 😅Have a great day!
Hi Barry...sure...you can use light, dark or lily white corn syrup if you like. The colour of the tart filling may be lighter if you use the lily white corn syrup though but it will taste great! Thank you very much for watching and I hope you have a great day!
Good morning Ronda! Unfortunately, I don't have a printable recipe on my TH-cam channel but I will look to see if I can add one. I am working today but will look into that when I get home this evening! Thank you very much for watching and have a lovely day!

I would like my tarts to be more thick inside should I cook it longer 🤔. Blessings ❤

I just learned recently that if you line the muffin tin with paper muffin liners, the tarts will come out of the pan like a breeze!
Good morning Delores! That sounds like a great idea...saves all of the sticky mess on the sides of the tin too! Thank you for sharing!
I have never heard of these. (I'm in the USA). They look amazing!! Can this be made into a single crust pie? If so, would I par bake the crust?
