I am a 81 year old lady that has been married 65 years. I have tried for all those years to make a pot of chicken and dumplings. I hate to admit I have never had any success with it. When my oldest son was little he called it chicken and dumpling because as hard as I tried it would cook together and be one big dumpling. It was good but had to cut it out of the pot. I'm so excited to try this recipe and if I successed my son will be the first one I'm inviting to my new and improved chicken and dumpling dinner. His wife is a wonderful cook and I told her to subscribe to your channel. She is thrilled because of the way both of you make a great video, easy to follow and always delicious. Thank you for posting this and several of the other ones I love as well. I live in Al and we are grateful for your channel and always look forward to the new ones you post. Thank you again and God Bless you both! From 2 of your faithful followers!
One dumpling! That's a funny story! I can just see it sitting there pulsating in the gravy! 😂The only way I know how to make dumplings was by watching the women in my mother's family. Some were 'drop' dumplings and some were rolled and cut. I loved them either way! They were ALL such great cooks. I have a big collection of cookbooks from over the years. I can remember some days that my aunts and grandmother would get the cookbooks out and just sit there together at the kitchen table, with some coffee, ☕ talk, laugh and read for hours! Such great memories. One great thing about the internet is the recipe channels. It takes all of the guesswork out of cooking! No young wives or anyone else can say that they don't know how to cook. What a sweet, sweet man. Thank you for inviting us to sit at your table and also sharing the love you have your wife with us. What a cool recipe. I make chicken and dumplings always for comfort food for people that I love …I am known for my, comfort soups. This is awesome. Can’t wait to make it and also deliver to my friends not able to get up and around and cook anymore. For some reason I do not cook chicken well myself, so I always buy the rotisserie chickens which I find gives my dumplings a little better flavor, but I always stay with the traditional rotisserie chickens. If you buy anything that’s got flavor in it like the rosemary, garlic or barbecue sauce it ruins the chicken and dumplings or chicken noodle soup that I use it for “stick with traditional.” may God bless your family. I’m glad I came across this post.
I diced up half an onion and about half a cup of celery very fine sautéed that with a little bit of poultry seasoning and added black pepper some white pepper, let that cook in some extra butter with olive oil till half cooked I did string that celery and added that all to the soup mixture before pouring it over the dish. I cooked it 45 min. In my stoneware dish and it had some crust on the bottom which my husband loved and the celery had a little bite still to it. We really enjoyed this easy dish and was so glad for the extra recipe. You guys are just the best at selecting the best recipes. This is a keeper! God Bless❤

Jan 2024, Houston gramma here. I’m alone but will try the recipe. You are delightful to watch. Your presentation is right to the point an so kind. Thank u.
Our Wednesday night Bible study group will love this one, no doubt about it♥I may even take my peach cobble, which I make in the same fashion, 1 stick butter, 2 cans sliced peaches with juice, 1 cup self rising flour, 1 cup sugar and 1 cup milk. Heat pan with butter melting while mixing the flour, sugar and milk, pour that mixture over the melted butter and then pour the peaches in don't stir and cook one hour at 350. Two great recipes♥
I don’t think there are any other people that do recipes that write everything down for you like Melissa does. I just think that’s so great that you don’t have to stop and start and stop and start the video to keep riding the recipe down. It’s right there. Thank you, Melissa.
Every single thing I have made from this channel has been amazing. This chicken and dumplin' casserole being just one of them, and the tastiest blueberry muffins with the crumb topping are just 2 that stick out in my mind, but I've made at least 20 recipes. This is the best channel for good home cooking. Hands down ❤
I will be making this very soon. It looks delicious. The only thing that I would add to it is a little thyme or sage or even a pinch of poultry seasoning just to kick the flavor up a notch. Yum 😊 !!!. Can’t wait !!!
Even though it's not traditional chicken and dumplings I added some frozen peas and carrots and it came out great this will make a great meal for the cold winter nights
You are right. Those could be delicious additions. And then the meal would be complete in one dish. Thanks for your ideas and for watching our videos. Love hearing from people who have watched.
Made this for dinner tonight for the family. I had to leave for an errand. Came back and every single bit of it was ate by the family. Huge hit!!! Thanks!!! Let’s Go…💙💛
I really enjoy your videos. And especially the recipes. Finally a cook that I can eat the food without burning my mouth and stomach up. Real home style cooking... Yum. Keep them coming.
Thank you for the nice comment. We really do appreciate that you are watching our channel. We hope you find lots of our recipes to enjoy. Have a wonderful day!
Tom and Melissa: I really enjoy your channel. The directions are so clear and I love having the recipe right there so I can take a picture of it and have it in my phone for ease of use. Thank you for all your hard work. And, your service as educators to our children! 💔🙏🏼🐾🙏🏼💔
What a nice comment, you have been very encouraging to us. Thank you so much for noticing the effort that we have put into making our channel. We really appreciate it when people respond so favorably.
I just recently found you and so happy I did! I will continue to follow. I live in AZ and although pushing 70, didn't really learn to cook until later in life, as my husband and I worked out business... my grandmother lived with us and she enjoyed cooking and was the best cook... I miss her so much! She would have LOVED this recipe!
Made this evening. I will never go back to making it the traditional way I have been for over 50 years. This is my new go to recipe. It was SOOOOOO GOOD….! Looking forward to making it for family and friends get togethers.
Made this recipe tonight, its a a winner and so simple.Keep up the great work, and thank you to Melissa for the printed out recipe she makes it easy to follow.
Thank you for trying it! We are so excited that you enjoyed it, too! I am happy to add the recipe; I think it makes it easier to enjoy the video knowing the recipe is easy to locate later when you need it.
I love how practical your recipes are. I can see how I can half this recipe. I also like how you provided a way to make self rising flour alternative where it’s not available. 🇨🇦🇨🇦
I missed the alternative to self-raising flour but I've heard it on another channel and jotted it down somewhere. Is it 1 teaspoon baking powder per cup of regular flour???
I made this for the first time today. I'm sure it is delicious as is, but I felt that it needed something. I know, I know, I generally follow the rule and make a new recipe as is the first time. I like some vegetables in my chicken and dumplings, so I sautéed some onion, carrot, celery and a little orange bell pepper which I layered on top of the chicken. I added black pepper and dried parsley to the gravy. The only chicken I had was a few scrappy frozen thighs, so I boiled those and used the broth, mixed in with some "Better Than Bouillon", instead of the canned broth. I didn't have any self-rising flour, but just used all purpose flour with baking powder and salt mixed in. It was fine. I only made half the recipe as I live alone. Wow, was it ever good. It was absolutely divine. I don't think I'll ever go back to my regular chicken and dumpling recipe ever again. This was just as good and so much easier. Thank you!
Thank y'all so much for sharing this recipe! I have been searching for years for a recipe that matched closely to my Grandma's. I'm going to make this and finally have my husband try what I remembered and loved. It was my favorite dish at Thanksgiving when I was a child. I appreciate you and your wife's hard work! Thank you!
I have loved reading your nice comments. It has been very encouraging to read your words. Hope you and your husband really enjoy this recipe. Thank you so much for watching.
I just made this today! My family loved it, I think I will incorporate this into a pot pie at some point. It is delicious as is, but definitely versatile for other dishes.
This is delicious. I have made this recipe for years. I add black pepper to the gravy mixture and have also added hard boiled eggs to the chicken layer. SO GOOD!
Can't wait to try this..will soon hit my 86th birthday and have loved cooking for at least 75 of those years. Always learn new ways! TY so much for something new! CG in Florida
I will be making this .. thank you. I can't make my grandma's chicken n dumplings but, this looks unbelievable easy an made my mouth water. Jacksonville FL
I'm really enjoying your channel. Not too long and you get to the recipes quickly and yet you add the specific amounts that you use. I love that! Thanks so much also for the back story about the recipes.
I came across this video today, and I just had to call my husband to stop by Walmart and pick up the ingredients. We will be trying this for supper today. It sure looks yummy and time-saving. I always make mine from scratch like my great grandma would do. She always rolled them out, thin, not doughy looking, which makes the best dumplings. Thanks for sharing this recipe.
This is very much like the chicken and dumplings my dad taught me to make when I was a kid. He used the canned soup with milk or broth to thin then mixed up a moist biscuit dough, usually used bisquick. He would bring the soup to a low simmer on the stove, drop in the dumplings and cover the pot until done. We couldn't afford the chicken 😂. They were surprisingly good to be so simple but this looks much easier. I can't wait to try this recipe. Thank you both so much for all you do.
I just. LOVE, how you are so clear & make your instructions so easy to understand & follow Tom! 👍. I enjoy watching, & always “ intrigued “ to make your recipes! Your lovely wife is a pro recording your, so smooth! You both make a “ great” team! 👏👏👏👌. Thank you both! Again, I’m so glad I came across you both!! 😁🥰
Really enjoy your channel. I grew up in suburban Boston in the ‘50’s and chicken and dumplings were an unknown dish when I moved to Texas in 1989. One of my neighbors shared her recipe and it’s even easier than yours. She mixed chopped cooked chicken with a can of cream of chicken soup and a can of broth. She brought the combination to a slow boil. She then took a can of refrigerator biscuits, rolled the dough out so it was about an 1/4 of an inch thick and cut it into strips. She dropped them into the boiling stew and cooked them. In Texas the dumplings are more like thick pasta than your dumplings and that’s what these are like. Start to finish you can do this in about 20 minutes..it’s really good and children love it. Hi from Texas!
His classroom teaching skills shine through even in the kitchen. I agree - he's awesome! Thank you so much for watching our video. We really appreciate it.
This sounds good, you’re right it’s not how my mother cooked it, she rolled out the dough and cut into stops like long noodles and placed them out on the counters wrapped with sack cloth for a couple of hours while she cooked a whole chicken and shredded it. But I know what you made is probably delicious and I want to try it. Thanks for sharing !
It is 4-3-24 & my daughter came down from the beach to visit so I used this recipe & I can say it was a home run, I'm 46 yrs old & have been cooking for about 25 yrs & this is the first time I've ever made chicken -n- dumplings & everyone liked it so thx the recipe...
Wow, this looks incredible. I loved my mother's chicken and dumplings, but this looks even better and actually doable by me. I can't wait to try it. You guys are just the best! The only thing better than a husband who cooks is a husband who cooks and tidys up after himself as he goes. I love how attentive he is to you, Melissa. Very sweet...
I will never be able to replicate my dear mother’s true chicken and dumplings but this simpler method makes the essence definitely within my reach. Thank you.
This casserole looks great! And what a coincidence, I'm left-handed too. Watching this video, I cut vegetables the same way(another video), use the same size of knives and even the same green oven mitts. Ive had a few college math classes and you even talk like a math teacher, step by step with the same pace!
Will be giving this a go looks so delicious. Also want to give Mrs Melissa a shout out with my 👍 thanks. It means so much to me on who I follow with the written recipes you do a fantastic job. 😊❤👌👋😉
Wow! Never heard of a chicken and dumplings casserole! Looks so easy and so delicious! Making it tomorrow! Thanks for sharing this recipe. Love your channel. God bless.
I always enjoy your videos. You give such an excellent presentation and explanation of the recipe which your preparing. I look forward of making chicken and dumpling casserole. Look forward to your next video. 👍😀
I made this, but only had cream of chicken with herbs in my pantry. It was delicious!! Thank you for sharing your recipe! It was much easier than rolling out dumplings!!
I am so glad to have found yr channel and this recipe! I could never attempt so-called ‘real’ chix and dumplin’s; so when i saw the word ‘casserole’ I could not click fast enough!! Thank you, both, so much!! I can actually try this now, with confidence!! ❤❤
Definitely making this Tuesday night... my hubby loves Chicken n Dumplings... but its a whole production. Now, u can make it in the summer. ❤🐔🍲 he works for General Motors & the last time he took some into work I ended up having to make it for his co-workers. They work very hard so I don't mind but this would be so much easier!!😋 I may cook a little onion, celery & carrots & add in with the chicken layer. I've got a deeper 9x13 casserole dish... HEAVENLY DISH Tom & Melissa! Thank you for sharing your southern dishes!🍽🙏🏻🧡
We are so excited to hear that you are making this on Tuesday! We hope that your family loves it. It is definitely a time saver over making traditional chicken and dumplings. Thank you so much for watching! We sure do appreciate it.
This recipe sounds delicious and I will be making it.Many have commented that they added peas and carrots but I have never had chicken and dumplings with vegetables. That sounds more like chicken pot pie
Dear Tom and Melissa, thank you so much for all your wonderful recipes. My sister sent me this recipe this morning and luckily enough I had unfrozen half of a very large chicken breast and three wings. I thought I would try your recipe since I had no idea what I was going to do with my chicken I had. I boiled my chicken and made my own stock had to tweak it a little just because it's just me and hubby. I added a couple of hands full with peas and carrots over the chicken and left the rest in a bowl on the dinner table. I did hold back some gravy just like you did but I thicken mine with a little cornstarch slurry and added my wings. The recipe was absolutely delicious. I will make this again and again. Thanks again for your wonderful recipes. Sincerely Dixie from Florida❤
Hello Dixie! It is great to have you with us at the table. We are so pleased to hear that you have tried this recipe and enjoyed it. Thank you for responding and letting us know. We certainly appreciate it.
I would like to add a hint. Cook your chicken breast first in the two cans of chicken broth that you say are needed. When you get them cooked and they have cooled, measure to see that you have the same amount of broth as you had in the two cans of broth. If not add however much more you need to make the (2) 14.9 oz cans of broth then add your soup. I usually buy the cardboard/plastic? containers of broth anyway, so there is a little bit more if needed. Then go ahead and prepare your recipe straining the broth if you wish, but I just use it like it is as it has all that great flavor now from the chicken and we don’t waste anything. Thanks for your great recipe!
I made this dish for supper and it was a huge hit!! Reminds us of when my aunt used to make homemade chicken and dumplings! Love the gravy! I used a rotisserie chicken and the combination of dark and white meat made it moist. Thank you so very much for this recipe!! I’m a new subscriber! Thanks for going slow while giving instructions. God bless!
I can't wait to try this. It looks delicious and so easy to prepare. Thank you for the tip on using an upside-down spoon to pour on the top layer. I really enjoy watching your videos. Thank you for sharing your wonderful recipes. 😊
Wow, I love it that you don't have to get your hands all stuck with dough when making dumplings and I will definately be making this!! Love it that it's all in one dish. Can't wait to try it!! Thank you so much for sharing this recipe!!

Thank you for this recipe! I had a bag of cut up rotisserie chicken in the freezer and this was a great way to use it. Easy, delicious, and affordable. This is the perfect dish to make if you are tired after work and don't want to do any cooking. :)

We love that you and your friends will be enjoying this at a musical festival soon. The festival sounds like a lot of fun! Thank you so much for the nice feedback. We really do appreciate it.
I make traditional chicken and dumplings a lot ! This looks really good and so much easier. At 70 years old and having leukemia, easier sounds great to me ! Looks delicious ! I'm definitely going to try this ! Thank you 😊
Oh my goodness! This looks delicious! I'm definitely going to make this recipe! Chicken and dumplings is one of my favorites! And I would empty the soup cans first and then swish a little of the broth in them to get all of the soup out if those ridges in the cans first, 😉 then pour the broth in the bowl and mix. I can't wait ro make this!! Thank you!
Their chicken and dressing casserole is really good itoo, especially when you're craving dressing and aren't up to the all-day version that you make at Thanksgiving and Christmas! One great shortcut is buying the rotisserie chicken, de-bone it, chop the meat and put it in zip locs to freeze for future recipes! I take all the bones and juice in the bag, boil them with about 6 qts. of water or canned chicken broth, add some celery, onions, butter and poultry seasoning to make a very rich and bold homemade chicken broth for soups or recipes!
We love having a recipe like this that is easier and quicker to put together than what you would for the holidays. It's not the same, obviously, but it's a really delicious meal. You have great tips for using rotisserie chickens and for making the homemade broth for soups or other recipes. Thank you for sharing with us. We appreciate that you are at the table with us.

Thanks, this looks like a great peach cobbler to take to next potluck!
Thank you for this cobbler recipe. So thoughtful of you!!
Please send to me!!!!
Do you use a 13 x 9 dish?
Another question... what size can of the peaches??
I don’t think there are any other people that do recipes that write everything down for you like Melissa does. I just think that’s so great that you don’t have to stop and start and stop and start the video to keep riding the recipe down. It’s right there. Thank you, Melissa.
I couldn't find it (the recipe) I can't find it!
Please show the recipe against m
Another Saver! Thank you, you two Beloved! 😘❤️🌹⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
I just made this for my family, with no variations, and it is absolutely delicious! Thank you for sharing this recipe😘🙏🏾❤️✨
I made this for supper tonight and it was delicious!!! Thank you for sharing!
Love the recipes and also that Melissa includes the written recipes. Thank you!!!
That's exactly what I just did! And I added an extra 1 cup of flour and milk because my family eats all the dumpling parts first 😂
@@thuggy lol eating all the dumplings is like eating the skin off of all the fried chicken
@russgare6523 you are correct 🤣
Made this for dinner tonight for the family. I had to leave for an errand. Came back and every single bit of it was ate by the family. Huge hit!!! Thanks!!!
Let’s Go…💙💛
I hope you got some before you left! We really appreciate this great testimony for the recipe! We love your enthusiasm!
I'm going too make this ! I made the stuffing chicken casserole very good !
What an easy recipe. Looks delicious.
I may make that and add frozen veggies to it and a lil pepper on top.
Thanks for sharing.. 😊
I miss chicken and dumplings. This recipe seems so easy and so yummy. I have to try this!!!
Can’t wait to try this. We are elderly and love the quick and easy recipes.❤❤
Pmn
I love how practical your recipes are. I can see how I can half this recipe. I also like how you provided a way to make self rising flour alternative where it’s not available. 🇨🇦🇨🇦
I missed the alternative to self-raising flour but I've heard it on another channel and jotted it down somewhere. Is it 1 teaspoon baking powder per cup of regular flour???
This is the absolute best chicken and dumplings I’ve ever had! I could eat this every week if my family would let me 😂❤
We love hearing this! Thank you so much for the nice feedback. We really do appreciate it.
I made this for me & hubby this evening. We LOVED it. So easy to make. Had to half it but....WOW!!!! so good.

You are so welcome. Thank you for the positive energy sent our way! It's very encouraging.
This man is an excellent cook!!
I think he is a fabulous cook. I couldn't agree with you anymore! Thank you so much for watching.
Glad you have found our channel! Thank you so much for watching!
I love the way you explain everything! You make everything you fix so simple to understand and prepare! You’re awesome ❣️👍🏼👌🏼🥰
His classroom teaching skills shine through even in the kitchen. I agree - he's awesome! Thank you so much for watching our video. We really appreciate it.
I'm making this today for my dad 😁
I saw that too! I always use a spatula to get all the bits!!!❤
I will never be able to replicate my dear mother’s true chicken and dumplings but this simpler method makes the essence definitely within my reach. Thank you.
You’re right. We will never be the cooks our moms and grandmas were but it’s nice to get close.
I made the casserole tonight it was delicious
Melissa you are so lucky to have such a wonderful cook, who actually cleans while he cooks. Excellent and delicious dish. Thanks so much.
I have to try this one. Thank you for sharing. I love watching your shows.
Wow! Never heard of a chicken and dumplings casserole! Looks so easy and so delicious! Making it tomorrow! Thanks for sharing this recipe. Love your channel. God bless.
You are so welcome! We are so glad you are watching our channel. Thank you so much.
Love chicken and dumplings in any form. Yum!
I always enjoy your videos. You give such an excellent presentation and explanation of the recipe which your preparing. I look forward of making chicken and dumpling casserole. Look forward to your next video. 👍😀
Thank you so much! We really appreciate that you're watching our channel. We hope you love whatever recipe you pick out to make next!
I always add a little sage into my "dumpling" mix and into the "gravy"... We love the savory flavor it adds!
I cooked this today and it was delicious! Thanks for an easy way to make chicken and dumplings! Tasted like my Mom's.
Looks delicious I'm trying with carrots and peas thank you for the recipe!
You are so welcome! We are so thankful that you have watched a video.
This recipe sounds delicious and I will be making it.Many have commented that they added peas and carrots but I have never had chicken and dumplings with vegetables. That sounds more like chicken pot pie
Best recipe ever!! Thank you for sharing❣️🙏🏻
You are so welcome. Thank you so much for such a nice comment.
We hope you love it! It's definitely easier than a traditional recipe for chicken and dumplings.
I made the chicken and dumplings Thursday and it was delicious!! I will be making this at least once a month! Thanks again for the great recipes!!
I’m going to try this for our church potluck! Thank you for sharing this recipe and thank you to the guy that shared it 13 years ago! I love watching cooking videos where they share the recipe in the description box. Thank you Melissa.

I just made this for dinner tonight. It is absolutely delicious.
Can’t wait to try this. Looks great!
Thank you for this recipe! I had a bag of cut up rotisserie chicken in the freezer and this was a great way to use it. Easy, delicious, and affordable. This is the perfect dish to make if you are tired after work and don't want to do any cooking. :)
My husband and I go to a music festival in southeastern Kansas each year where I cook for up to 8 others in our “camp”. I can hardly wait to prepare this one to share with our friends. Bless you and thank you for always sharing great recipes and your love to all.
We love that you and your friends will be enjoying this at a musical festival soon. The festival sounds like a lot of fun! Thank you so much for the nice feedback. We really do appreciate it.
Looks simple, and delicious!!! Thank you 😊🌿🕊
Hope you enjoy it! Thank you so much for watching.
I subscribed 😊🌿🕊
I make traditional chicken and dumplings a lot ! This looks really good and so much easier. At 70 years old and having leukemia, easier sounds great to me ! Looks delicious ! I'm definitely going to try this ! Thank you 😊
Oh my goodness!
This looks delicious!
I'm definitely going to make this recipe!
Chicken and dumplings is one of my favorites!
And I would empty the soup cans first and then swish a little of the broth in them to get all of the soup out if those ridges in the cans first, 😉
then pour the broth in the bowl and mix.
