Greetings from Laos. I feel his pain. We are still recovering from Typhoon Yagi. When the typhoon made landfall 3 weeks ago, the flood waters were up to our necks. It took a week for the water to recede. But I was so glad to take a hot shower after a week. Hot showers are a luxury in my country if you ask me.
Luke I count you and your family as MY FAMILY. My Heart ❤️ goes out too everyone who’s lost a family member, or again who’s struggling. Everyone of you are again in my thoughts and prayers. Id do more for you guys if I could. I was pensioned off 2-3 yrs ago , from doing the same job for 26 yrs. I just wish I had the finances to join your Patron?? But I live alone and can’t do it?? When I can I will. God Bless, Love ❤️ You All And Keep Safe What He Can In such devastation ❤️🙏💕🤷♀️🇬🇧🇬🇧
The pain in your voice when speaking of others who have suffered besides you and your family speaks volumes to your character Luke. Selflessness comes to mind. Strength and honor
you can really tell when he mentioned the mother and child he felt that hit him hard. really brings perspective into these disasters and internet fame that can be effected just the same as any of us. I have a friend who lives out that region too and im glad hes ok
One of the ladies I watch on TH-cam made the comment to people saying they should have prepared better. " Telling Appalachia to prepare for a hurricane, is like telling Florida to prepare for a blizzard." There was no way to prepare for that kind of storm.
You’re ignoring the sage advice to prepare in a general way with a stockpile of necessities such as food, water, cash money, medical, fuel, batteries, etc. also an evacuation plan to safety if necessary. Just use a bit of common sense but use can’t educate stupid people, the Darwin effect goes to work on them….🤔
@@user-bo1rj2xu2s You completely misunderstand and seem to lack an understanding of the context. People in the Appalachians are very self-sufficient as it is. This was such an extreme event (like a blizzard in Florida) that nobody could have prepared for it. You cannot prepare for something that NOBODY anticipates. This was a massive wake-up call.
I remember when Hurricane Hugo came through Charlotte. I was 21 years old and lived alone, with no family. The one thing I remember was how the community came together and looked after me. We didn't have power for a few days, so we gathered together and cooked out on camp stoves and aluminum buckets. I had no idea how destructive wind could be. I'm so glad you and your family and friends are safe. Enjoy the time you have with your neighbors. Strength and honor. Peace and love.
I was in middle school in Shelby when Hugo hit. Our entire side of town was without power except my street. I remember our house was open to the neighborhood as everyone was coming over to cook food before it went bad. This went on for 3 or 4 days. Coming together is one thing humanity seems to do pretty well.
Hey brother. Thanks for giving Samaritan's Purse a shout out. I work there and was blessed to serve in Boone helping out one day last week. I am actually a tiny spec in the picture with the semi truck. I am praying for your family and our community.

Hello from Washington State. First, I want to start off by saying that I am very glad that you and your family are safe. My heart truly broke when you spoke of your neighbors who didn’t make it. My thoughts are with their family. I can’t even imagine the pain of such a loss. I have family in Mooresville, NC and I was so grateful to hear that they made it through the storm relatively unscathed. I only just recently discovered your channel, maybe 2 weeks ago, and I have been watching every chance I get. I am a nature loving Pluviophile, and finding a channel that combines my love of camping, hiking and rain has been amazing. I’m super excited that I have found a channel that truly speaks to me. Please stay safe in life and on your adventures. Sending you and your family warm thoughts positive vibes. 🧘🏻♀️
Luke and Susie, I am so happy to hear you and your family are safe. What a blessing you are to your neighbors. I am so sorry to hear about your neighbor and her child losing their lives. How sad all the loss of life. You are such good and decent people. I will be praying for you and your neighbors. Kindest regards, Mary
Appreciate you man!! We are just outside West Asheville and our situation is not nearly so dire as it is for thousands around us. Waynesville, my hometown also received it share of the flooding. Being a camper, backpacker and canoer we had the tools for the situation. Our home, undamaged by the prestorm intense rain, 13.5" before the hurricaine hit us, I'm told Asheville received 19" in the end, but Mt. Michelle got 30" and another top got 40". Most all that flowed down to the Swannanoa River and then to the French Broad. Being 67, this is the most intense storm of my life and I've lived around the world in a 20 year career in the USAF. Camping gear has made this situation easily survivable. Our Sawyer Water Filter is key to this as we probably won't have any city water until at least mid-November. Thanks for you all Being who you are and understanding the blessings from all that has occurred.
Samaritan's Purse is a great charity. They were here in 2011 when we had dozens and dozens of tornadoes in one day and numerous F5's. They get right in and start working. Franklin Graham heads it up.
The reason Lone Wolf mountain did so well is all the preventative maintenance you have done over the years. Clearing out the ditches, making sure the road is well kept, getting rid of brush as needed, etc. All of those things add up to making an event like this much easier to deal with.
Glad to see your safe brother. I work for an electric/internet coop up in WNC and it's been absolutely horrifying to see what has happened. Things can be replaced and lives can't, which is one of the things affecting my crews the most. It's going to take our linemen months to fix what has happened, but it's been an honor and privilege to work along side them and help make it happen.
Glad to know you mostly dodged it. My heart goes out to Asheville and the other communities that got essentially erased from the map, the infrastructure damaged with interstates undermined and then destroyed and now 30 feet deep and part of the new riverbed and crippled of its ability to reach the needy and so much more. I've seen the US get walloped so many times by massive storms and seen the aftermath but this one is off the meter. To everyone watching this facing Milton, my thoughts are with you my Transatlantic cousins. All my love from Manchester, England.
Wow Luke, thanks for sharing! I've been going through all of my TH-camrs checking on them. So happy to see your post. Isn't that cool that you had all that camping gear stocked up and you were able to share it?? So awesome! Thanks so much for sharing. So happy you and yours are safe. I work for Florida Dept of Corrections in maintenance and I will say this.. Our crew were clearing roads starting at 2:30am the day of the storm for at least 6 hours. We helped all we could along the way, but we had a destination we had to be at for obvious reasons.

Brother Luke! If you want to, I think all of us would love to see videos of you rebuilding after the destruction. Working together with your great neighbors and friends etc! The videos don’t even need to be as deeply edited right now. Just a thought! So glad you guys are safe!
How blessed you are. So happy to see everyone is safe. Keeping Everyone in the State of North Carolina and the rest of the country in my prayers. Cheers!!!!
The power of a flood is truly astounding! I too was in a flood in Colorado in 2013. Totally changed the flow of the river in my front yard. It became 1 huge lake. My neighbor's house was completely washed away. Fortunately we were high enough and only lost some out buildings and our well house. No power or access to the outside world for 2 weeks. All roads were washed out. Like you have stated, some had it much worse. Rural living teaches one to be prepared. Our community came together and we managed quite nicely. The saving grace was a spring in the side of the mountain which was drinkable water. Glad you guys are safe.
It's hard to lose a lifetime of tools- glad your house is standing and especially that you were able to share camping gear and meals with the community
I’m 73 year old Ganny! I so love going on the adventures with you as Suzy! I’ve camped, fished and hunting since I was 10 years old. Love all you do on your channels. So glad y’all are safe.
I live on Mt Island lake near charlotte and many of my neighbors below the dam lost everything. One amazing thing has been how people have come together during such a trying time. I am glad you and your family are safe and I admire you telling the difficult stories of those who have lost all. Mountain folks are resilient. Tonight praying for our friends in Florida. Stay well
Wow that storm was so much stronger than we thought it would be. Praying for everyone affected by it. Good luck getting your basement back to what it was. Bless everyone!
I am so sorry Luke for all the damage and lost lives. It must be so hard to hear and see that around you. I am thankful and glad that you and Susie and other family are safe. Irma from the Netherlands
So sad 😔 I was reading a man and his dog died trying to save his friend from a flash flood during the storm. Great to hear you're on the road to recovery 🙏 ❤
Glad to know you guys are safe. Running off little sleep and lots of caffeine .. my agency was of the first to get deployed to the area to assist. Rebuilding may take time, but material things can be replaced. Thank you for sharing your resources with your neighbors. Togetherness is what gets you through the chaos. This has definitely been an experience, and I’m beyond exhausted…but it’s an all hands on deck situation and I’m grateful that my family and friends made it safely through the storm. North Carolina is home, and I’m so proud to see how my state is standing strong through it all. Thoughts and prayers to those that did not make it. 🙏🏽 #Helene was definitely one for the record books, and I’ve weathered Hugo, Fran, and Matthew.
Thank you for the reports, the extra info on emergency preparedness, what property survives - and most importantly - the community spirit that lives in your heart and among you all. You’ve used your slightly better situation in the midst of a horror for the benefit of your neighbors. You’ve been thorough, so you don’t have to be perfect. As you said, y’all are doing your best. We support you in spirit and what we can do.
As a single person, I use 3-4 gallons a day. 3/4 gallons for drinking, 2 for flushing, and the rest for cooking, etc. I've learned that, if you brush your hair, washing every day isn't needed. Baby Wipes do an amazing job keeping you clean(4 a day for the whole body). If you clean your dishes right away, it takes minimal water to clean, if at all. Two things keep popping into my head. One is a line from Tennyson's "Rhyme of the Ancient Mariner" - "Water water everywhere, yet not a drop to drink"; and Led Zeppelins cover of "When the Leve Breaks". This place will never be the same.
Luke, glad you all are safe. My dad and I were supposed to camp up at Blue Bear this past weekend. We’ve been in communication with those folks as well and have plans to help. My family donates to Samaritan’s Purse regularly and have been for years. I can say to others… your money goes to REAL help. Please donate if you can! 🙏🙏
So happy that you and your family are safe. It's great to have neighbors working together to get things going again. We'll be praying for you all. God Bless.
If an event like this ever happens in my area (God forbid) we would need you and people like you. Its inspiring how folks in the mountains quickly bond together and help each other. So glad you and your family are safe. You sure do show strength and honor
Great to see you! Was wondering how you and your family are doing, thanks for the update and blessings to you and all of the others impacted by the storm.

I am glad that only material stuff got lost, a bit of repairs to the house and that's it. What matters is that your family is alive and healthy, and you still have a roof over your head. Take all the time you need to get back on your feet. Strength and honor!
Your courage and generosity are a real testament to your character. May God bless you and your tender heart, your father and family. I am praying for all the victims of Helene.
Thank you for the update Luke! Here in Sweden we did not have so much information about the severness or the damages from Helena. When I started to understand more about it I searched info from internet and news from your areas. Good to here from you, thanks again and strength and honor to you.
They had it on news first day and maybe some on second day. News must cover so many other things in the world. I have watched many videos from NC. One video show how a small river became flooded fast. River is Cane river. This man lost his house, bridge and car. Half of the road gone. th-cam.com/video/C4xA7QfIOdo/w-d-xo.htmlsi=f1h0xUd3wuboQYWx Here is location on Google Maps: maps.app.goo.gl/kskBJeECnajmMqkM8
I live in Buncombe County (Asheville) on the east side. We were the hardest hit in the county, but due to the layout of the mountains where we live, we had no damage to the house and yard except for minor flooding on our back patio. We have a Honda generator and that kept the freezer, refrigerator, and my Ham radios going. We were out of power, internet, phone service until yesterday. It will be another month before we have water, so we take our 5-gallon containers to a water fill station about 4 miles away. Over 100 dead in our county with a couple of hundred still missing. Our camping equipment and generator saved the day, along with 50 gallons of water I had stored up. Take care and be safe Luke.
So glad to hear you and Susie are safe! My uncle was in Spruce Pine. He's ok too! Thank you for giving us an update! I will continue to keep all of WNC in my prayers!
You have relieved several thousand hearts that were concerned about you and Susie and the rest of your family. Mother Nature is very unpredictable. Take a deep breath. Put one foot in front of the other, and continue the story of your life. I have no doubt that you have the wits and wisdom to have a long and productive life with Susie. You really have no idea how important you and your site are. Bless you both ! Michael 😊
Glad to know that you and your family are well. Friends and neighbors are well. Unfortunately lives were lost and some are missing. Prayers go out to everyone affected by the hurricane. It's good to hear that people are helping each other, neighbors helping neighbors. My hats off to you and Susie for all of the help you've helped others with. Sharing your camping supplies and power stations, etc. That's love for your neighbors, friends and family! So glad that you all set that example for others and show them that you really do care. You're right, things will get better. Take care my friends!

So happy you and your loved ones are safe. SE Texas here, it could have been us. The monster heading for Florida right now, is a sign we must get serious about climate change. The Gulf of Mexico was more like a warm bathtub this summer, and the heat of the water is what is fueling these storms to become monsters. Thank you for the update and stay safe.
Climate change has been and will continue to be a "thing" since the earth and heavens were created. It's worse " I think" because of science trying to control it.
So glad you & yours are safe. Living on the gulf coast, I’ve experienced many hurricanes, from Hurricane Camille to now. Some very serious storms & some have given us a laugh. Saw a VW Beetle pulling an airplane down the highway when we were evacuating for Hurricane Camille. But, never has a storm affected me like this devastation in the NC mountains. I’ve cried until there was no more tears. I’ll never see, in my lifetime, the quaint areas I so loved.
So glad to hear that you and Susie and family are ok... prayers for everyone!!! and praying for those in harms way of Milton going through Florida...stay safe and God be with you all.

I agree about how hiking/camping prepares you for some of this - our Sawyer water filter, headlamps, water tablets, Dude Shower wipes, etc. are hiking items that we can use during/after a hurricane.

Brother Luke! If you want to, I think all of us would love to see videos of you rebuilding after the destruction. Working together with your great neighbors and friends etc! The videos don’t even need to be as deeply edited right now.
Just a thought! So glad you guys are safe!
I agree. This would be cool.
I agree to but you know first of all he will respect his own privacy of himself his family and the communities to the wider public.
@@pammy5260 Oh for sure! Only what he and or his neighbors are okay with sharing.
I also agree! I'm so glad you are safe!
Thinking of you all and grateful for your work
How blessed you are. So happy to see everyone is safe. Keeping Everyone in the State of North Carolina and the rest of the country in my prayers. Cheers!!!!
From the bottom of my heart. Glad you and your loved one are safe.
Be Strong. God Bless you.
glad you are all safe. my condolences to those who have lost family and friends. Stay safe and greetings from Belgium.
Glad to hear you are all ok. Kudos to all of you for sticking together and helping each other out. Amazing the difference being prepared makes.
Glad to see you're ok and the mountain is unscathed. Prayers to all those not so fortunate and remember,... you folks are not forgotten. Cheers. 👍
I’m glad to hear that you and your family are safe. Thank you for sharing your story.
Glad to know all are well and ok. I'm sorry for the loss you have sustained, and I pray for everyone involved.
We’ve been praying for you. Glad you and the Mountain are safe.
We love you guys and am so pleased you are doing ok. Thank you for updating us. Keep in touch as best you can.
Thank heavens we are all so pleased to see you and know that you're safe
Thank you for the reports, the extra info on emergency preparedness, what property survives - and most importantly - the community spirit that lives in your heart and among you all. You’ve used your slightly better situation in the midst of a horror for the benefit of your neighbors. You’ve been thorough, so you don’t have to be perfect. As you said, y’all are doing your best. We support you in spirit and what we can do.
I'm glad you and your family are safe and able to get everything fixed up.
Sometimes a catastrophe can bring neighbors to friendships. Everyone helping each other is such a wonderful action!
Thanks for the update and being an outstanding neighbor! Bless you.
Keep being a light for others!
We’re so happy you’re ok.
Danke!
So thankful that you and your family are safe. Praying for you all and everyone who was affected by the hurricane.
Praying for all our neighbours to the south . So glad things for you wern't any more serious. Stay strong . Ontario Canada .
Great to see you! Was wondering how you and your family are doing, thanks for the update and blessings to you and all of the others impacted by the storm.
We have been through three horrible floods. I am deeply sorry for you and your 15:23
neighbors.
Thank God you are all right.
What a blessing you are being to your neighbors. All the gear you have been able to share!
Samaritan’s Purse is a wonderful organization.
Donating!
So glad to hear that LWM and family and friends are fine. So sorry about your home. Floods are scary as hell. Thanks so much for the update. Great to see you.
You and Suzie have HEARTS OF GOLD, handing out everything you've worked for over the years. You proved yourself by far Luke.. God Bless you.. 🙏
So glad that you and your family are safe. My heart goes out to those who have not been so lucky.
Glad you & your family are all safe...what an epic nightmare for everybody...hopefully everybody can rebuild & recover from this storm..stay safe & take care❤❤❤

Praying before, still and will continue. Donated and so honored to hear your resilience
So happy that you and your family are safe!
Michael 😊
So glad you and your family are ok. Prayers to everyone affected by the storm.
So glad you guys are all ok , we love your videos. We are on Fla west coast and facing an unpredictable hurricane, please say a prayer for us ! Thanks - Carl & Sarah Slater
🙏🙏🙏🙏
Glad you and Susie and your family are all safe. Keeping you all in our prayers!
So glad you and Susie and your dad are safe,May God be with you,
I'm glad to hear you and your family are safe.
Soo glad to have seen this video….my son-in-law and I watch many of your videos and our little family safely secured in a suburb of Ft Lauderdale, FL are REALLY REALIZING HOW BLESSED we truly are……please give Suzy a hug 🤗 from us and stay strong and keep smiling! Blessings ✨✨✨✨✨✨✨✨
I agree about how hiking/camping prepares you for some of this - our Sawyer water filter, headlamps, water tablets, Dude Shower wipes, etc. are hiking items that we can use during/after a hurricane.
Oh Luke that's a huge amount of rain and very rare! You should also get a meteorological station! To compare it with your father's. Stay safe my friend I love your content I really appreciate you ❤
I count the rain also I have variant meteorological stations. It is once of a lifetime maybe to have 24 inches in such a short period of time.
