Look, I had a K-Mart special cheap tent. I took it into the woods and it rained hard for a long time. I was soaked inside. Everything was wet. Then the next time I sprayed it and the rain fly with silicone spray and seamsealer. It was as dry as a bone the next harsh rain. That doesn't make the tent bad if it leaks. No single application of water resistance lasts the life of the tent. Silicone spray and seamseal this tent, then see what it does!
My condolences for your loss, but I agree with the no suffering part. The VA said my dad had 6 months to a year, and he was gone in 2 months. Thanks for the honest reviews on all these products. Peas and carrots are by favorite vegetables. Have a great weekend ya'll...
Yeah well technology has changed and I am thankful for reviewers like this because why do I have to pay my hard end money for mediocre quality? I rather a tent that does not leak.
That terrain looks so much like Mt. Hood National forest. I camped one time there. The weather was excellent when I went to bed. Woke up about 0730 the next morning and had 8 " of snow. Just shows how fast the weather can change in the high mountains.

Hey Luke, thanks for making such beautiful and informative videos. I like your attitude, too. My ex-Marine father would always seal any tent or tarp he bought. He was always “improving” the things he used.
Camping Tip: put another tarp over the tent so it's double protected from the Rain that way can unpack n pack in the dry. Alot of campers in Australia put gazebos over their swags same principle double protected from the storm. GREAT STORIES always entertaining to watch.
The state you live in seems like heaven for me. I love forests, rain, mountains, lakes, nice people. I might have to get myself a green card and a job in NC! Good video per usual Luke!
Imagine how annoying it must be for this guy to set down the camera, go away, coming back, walk past it, coming back again to retrieve it, and all this multiple times for every shot with him not holding the device lololol
Seems like every outdoor TH-camr does it and it always seems silly when you notice it, but they are good shots and I can see why they’re worth the extra effort.
Hey Luke, I was camping this past weekend and we stopped at an Amish country store in central Michigan and I found a lone Lodge cast iron lid for the 6 1/2" pan. I was so excited! Felt like I won a scavenger hunt. Course I bought it.

I took this tent onto Dartmoor in the UK in the extreme rains on the 3rd of the month. Absolutely no issue. The storm flap in the vents wasn't holding up with the wind on Sheepstor so the vent got closed: job done. Fortunately no issues and very pleased with the tent. For the money, I'm Absolutely 100% impressed. Seems like there is some pot-luck going on with this one 🤔 That's a shame.
@@1savage99 Mine is 5 weeks old, but that's just in my possession after purchase. Maybe it sat on a shelf in the Amazon warehouse a while before I bought it. I can only say I had comparable rain and it held up, kept me safe and I had a good night in terrible conditions. I was doubly impressed as I also have a Carinthia Observer from new as well, which I expect to be bomb proof. It is in winds and storms, but it ALWAYS seems to leak a little on the right side. For the £500 price difference between the two, the One Tigris really is amazing value, but definitely it's a roll of the dice as to whether you get a good one and that's a shame for both the buyer and One Tigris themselves.
@@mrghost3209 thanks for the reply. I’v e been look8ng at theis hot tent and really going back and forth whether to buy or not to spend more on another brand.
@@mrghost3209 mine has leaked in light rain and not leaked in downpours, i've had very mixed results. I really feel like it's how the rain is falling and if it can come up inside the vent. I'm going to put some velcro on mine to keep it closed all the way. I also started positioning the kickstand so that it pushes the storm flap up before closing the vent. The first night with mine I got VERY wet, much worse results then what Luke had.
@@tennyis28 I haven't used it enough to say yet whether mine leaks in light rain. The two times I've had it out have either been in an absolute downpour or just a regular, breezy night on the moors. Two weekenders isn't enough for me to give any more user experience than I've already shared, but thanks for the heads up as sooner or later I'll be using it in lighter rain too.
Luke the tent has Failure, but you made it safe through that storm all that's matter my brother thank again for awesome Adventure I enjoy your view in the beginning and in the end I always learn a lot from you what to look for you and how to be safe when you go camping thanks again Luke
I was in a bad one out in Virginia this passed weekend. My One Tigris backwoods bungalow 2.0 held up like a champ. Had high winds near the Mount Rogers summit. I do think it would have leaked if it had vents towards the peak, but because of the vent running the length of tent towards the bottom it worked out great.
I just got my tent today. 😞 i guess I'll be seam sealing here very soon. I'll have to watch your video on how to fix a leaking tent. I hope seam sealing will fix the problem. Thank you for the video!
when you close the vents, position the kick stand so that it pushes the storm flap up, it helps a little bit. It will still leak at the vents though. I was thinking of a few pieces of velcro on each vent to keep it fully closed, the way the tent sits it has a big gap even when closed.
Well i got my tent set up in my garage and I seam sealed over the vents and down the seams of the vents. I think i sealed about 80 percent of it. I almost thought about not sealing it tonight and just pitching it in my back yard and calling it a night. Thanks Luke for your videos and also how to seam seal. I have faith in the Onetigris cosmitto still.
Thanks for another great video, you are still a standout contributor in the land of TH-cam. Sorry for to hear about your Uncle, condolences to you and yours. Your positivity and honesty is always refreshing. Look forward to the next adventure.
Amazing job on this episode. Your editing skills are improving all the time, not that they were ever low quality. Thanks for the video, the review and the hang. Stay safe.
I try to always set my tent up at the house & give it good spray down w/the hose hitting all those seams & letting it dry out then repeating the spray. I camp ALOT & I’m in Virginia so it rains a lot. MY experience is usually that a brand new tent, after going through one decent storm, may leak at first but after that they’re fine. I don’t know if it’s just the seams need to get wet & expand or what. But I’ve had plenty of tents that leaked on the first storm but never again after that
Love it! Keep up the good work Luke! High quality content, from the quality of the video, to the way you describe the gear and the environment, and up to the entertainment you provide with the scenery and sounds you capture. I can honestly say you're one of my favourites here on youtube! Wishing you well and hope to see you making these great videos for many years to come my friend!
I did a four-day backpack trip just like the adventure you shared here - it rained and snowed continuously. We set up a tarp solely to protect our precious pile of firewood. I was sleeping under only a tarp, and miraculously stayed fairly dry. Rainy trips make for some great stories after you get home and get your gear dried out.
I'd say it passed with a C or C+. Even though there was some water ingress, it was still dry enough to both (a) get some sleep and (b) have a dry spot to fix breakfast. So, not a total fail and not a total success - but good enough. Especially given the amount of rain we saw in your video.
I can't say how appreciating you can be to have a DRY tent! Ultimate new tent fail when I was about 19. Woke up about 2AM with my sleeping bag floating! With me in it! It had been a very hard rain. Testing prior to a trip is a very good idea!
peas with and without their shells with brokoli and some fatty salty water based sauce(butter olive oil you choose),soy sauce for salt, make em slightly crisp(not cooked ALL the way(brokoli)) and serve with a good juicy peace of meat, i would DIE for that meal 11/10 times
I LOVE Your set up but in Hawai'i we put our tents under the tarps. You stay safe and warm Thank You again. LOVE and GOD BLESS You ALOHA Always Sister Chrissy Honolulu Hi 💙⚘
So, I’ve watched you set up your camp multiple times over a couple of years now. You have never, in my memory, pitched your tarp over the door of your tent. I grew up in East Tennessee and I learned, for good reason, to always put a tarp over the front door of my tent. Since we both grew up camping, in generally the same area of the wet Appalachians, how could we set up camp so differently? My wife taught me to like pea and carrots. When we were brand new married, I was a plain, meat and potatoes guy. Over the years she’s had me give lots of different foods an “honest try”. I loved her and trusted her, so, I did. Well, I’ve learned to eat salad and lots of veggies. Yep, peas and carrots. Texas
Isn't it also recommended in the States to always store + handle all food away from your tent? I always assumed that just wanting to cover his cooking area, at that bit of distance, was his reason. Though of course, on his test nights he would also have the reason of fully putting the fly through its paces with no mitigating elements.
Luke is testing the tent, so not having the tarp over it, you see the failure modes, BUT, from a practical standpoint, yes, tarp over your tent. I camp for week long stretches and you are guaranteed rainfall one day in that week in Southern Ontario. I have a dome tent, I will tarp the entire tent and have the tarp hug the tent like a fly with a point guyed out for ingress/egress. By having the tarp secured to the tent as a dome, it does not become a wind catcher. Also note in the footage, the backsplash of forest duff on the sides of the tent bathtub. That will cause seepage, so having that tarp drape over and right to the ground, the tent stays clean and dry. May sound like overkill, but once you take those precautions, you don't care if it rains, and the cleanup is much easier after.
Very stunning views about the tarps and tent in our rainforest we use to put tarps on the top of our tent in case of heavy rain we get double protection on the top I mean from rain we normally use oversized waterproof fly so we can Cook and sit underneath it as well
This video shows a good reason to always carry a tarp. Image it started to rain like this. How do you set up your tent without soaking the inside before you get the rain fly on? At the very least you could spread the tarp out, climb under it and set the tent up that way.
So pleasant to hear what u have to say because it’s not blah blah just taking up space. I’m no camper anymore but love to be taken on this journey with you. Cheers and be well. Watching from Maine.
I had really high hopes for this tent, I thought it would be very good. I know $165 isn't a high-end tent but for that price I could just buy a really cheap tent and a tarp big enough to cover it and not have to deal with getting wet.
Another superlative video! (The malevolent storm approaches at 7:55) In addition to focusing on the product being tested, showing what you are actually using is a subtle, but important endorsement. It is comforting seeing you actually using the equipment, gear, clothing, etc.
The natural sounds from your videos are the most calming out of any I've ever found. I love the rain. My best sleep is in the rain. That is the one time I don't need a fan to create white noise to kill my tinnitus. Your jacket's name is a place where I fish in Arizona. Glad you found a top for your cast iron. Last weekend I did finally find one at Cracker Barrel. I never expected to find one there. We were only going out for dinner for my wife's birthday.
Don't let him fool you, this guy is so tough and so Gung-Ho I'm sure he was quite happy that a storm of that magnitude rolled in on him. He would be sitting on the top mast in the hurricane screaming loudly at the storm like Lt. Dan did on Forrest Gump's shrimping boat 🤣
All said, that's alot of rain! Had it been even a little windblown things would have been bad for you! That said, I have yet to see any tent with those kind of vents survive a heavy rain. (Keep in mind I live in Florida now) I have seen all from dirt-cheap to stupid-expensive fail in the Florida rain, with that kind of vent system. We do extra seam seal down here just out of habit. Glad to see you survived, and thanks for the testing videos you do, cant say that enough! And God bless Susie for dealing with it!
Love the video Luke! Such a beautiful forest you were in. I was expecting Bigfoot to cuddle you in your tent to keep out of the rain storm. Lol. Keep the awesome vid coming , love what you do. And please keep up the drama free channel I appreciate it .
I've never had a complete water proof tent not one in 38 years, of which includes the issued gear in the military grade supply system. So my conclusion ends with hanging a high fly tarp over my gear tent all. Because I refuse to be uncomfortable on any trip weight is not an issue. With that said great over all job on this video,Sir keep up the great WORK..
Great as ever - to me the tent is a pass . The ingress was such a small % of the deluge outside so the barrier was materially effective. Any vents doors flaps etc for our convenience will always be the weak points . I loved the rain sounds - fond childhood memories of deluges on our tents but they were made of canvas and no inner so always a disaster!
What do I think you say? That's a lot of freak'n rain for any tent! I say seam seal the vents and give it another try. Give the old girl a second chance brother! Thanks for your time making another wonderful video.
Nice videography. THE TENT: Imagine if it were raining when you set up your tent and had no tarp. Yep, you would have had to try to set up the poles and fly FIRST and then drawl under the fly and snap in the inner tent nd attach the floor corners last and THEN unpack in the vestibule. That's why I like Tarptents. They set up fly and inner tent previously attached. So nice in a storm.

Good job Luke
I believe the tent repelled 99.999 percent if the rain so i would give it an A- which is a fair grade!
you forgot the standard comment they always wrote at the bottom "Could do better" 😁😁
Thank you for your posts. My family and I enjoy, learn and appreciate the effort and fine example you set for strength and honor. I send you good thoughts of love and protection for you and your family. I am 75 years old on SS or I would financially support you. We raised our sons hiking and camping and I believe it made a difference. I am not able to get out there now but I join in your adventures. Wish you the best of the best!
I've made numerous purchases based on Luke's reviews not once have I been disappointed, now if I could only get him to review the ladies I date I feel like I could find the right one! 😁
I'm so sorry about your loss.
My condolences for your loss, but I agree with the no suffering part. The VA said my dad had 6 months to a year, and he was gone in 2 months. Thanks for the honest reviews on all these products. Peas and carrots are by favorite vegetables. Have a great weekend ya'll...
As an old Scout , im getting a kick out of these rain episodes.Every tent we had...leaked!
Yes, old scout here too...always leaked !
I’m a backpacker and I’ve never had a tent leak. I’ve woken up damp though lol
my coleader scout master marine corps viet nam vet leader said if it ain't rainin we ain't trainin
Yeah well technology has changed and I am thankful for reviewers like this because why do I have to pay my hard end money for mediocre quality? I rather a tent that does not leak.
That’s what God made tarps for😄😄😄
That terrain looks so much like Mt. Hood National forest. I camped one time there. The weather was excellent when I went to bed. Woke up about 0730 the next morning and had 8 " of snow. Just shows how fast the weather can change in the high mountains.
I'm sorry to hear about your uncle. I didn't want to pile on after you mentioned it in the earlier video. All I'll say is cancer sucks and I'm glad you seem to be doing OK. Keep up the good work.
I have stage 4 cancer can still do stuff and camp MY oncologist seems to have it under control and will give me mote time to enjoy grandkids and life taking my 4 yo grand daughter on her firs over nighter next weekend simple grilled cheese in pie irons and Betty Croker pancakes in a tub just add water
@erm4292 how are you now?
Sorry for the loss of your uncle. I used to be like you with peas but since they came out with steamfresh bags it was a whole different ballgame now i love them can't get enough of them
Hey Luke, thanks for making such beautiful and informative videos. I like your attitude, too. My ex-Marine father would always seal any tent or tarp he bought. He was always “improving” the things he used.
Most noticeable on that canal is the crisp footage with very nice background separation i love that
I can't lie whatever camera you are using you are using it perfectly its an absolutely impeccable quality video congratulations
Agreed!
Just going to say the same thing, great camera work.
Two opposing cameras make for one take...at least i hope that's what Luke is doing.
I'm sorry for your loss. Glad you're back in your element enjoying life and the beauty around us.
That is some extreme equipment testing.
Camping Tip: put another tarp over the tent so it's double protected from the Rain that way can unpack n pack in the dry.
Alot of campers in Australia put gazebos over their swags same principle double protected from the storm.
GREAT STORIES always entertaining to watch.
I always love harsh weather conditions and rainstorms. They put you in your place as a human beeing. Which is not on top of everything.
I have this tent, I had to setup a tarp overhead at like 2am due to the tent leaking
Otherwise I like it, would recommend for summer & only light rain
The state you live in seems like heaven for me. I love forests, rain, mountains, lakes, nice people. I might have to get myself a green card and a job in NC! Good video per usual Luke!
Is that where he lives? NC? I’ve been wondering because that forest is BEAUTIFUL. I’m in Virginia & this has me hopeful lol
I love how you use whatever is available to use!
For some strange reason I love the sound of rain on the tent. Especially when there is no condense or rain seeping through.
Thank you for the video Luke.
I wasn't a big fan of peas when I was younger, but now I almost can't get enough of them
Luke you always camp.in a beautiful place my friend thunder storms strong winds thank you for sharing it with me showing a good review about this tent
Imagine how annoying it must be for this guy to set down the camera, go away, coming back, walk past it, coming back again to retrieve it, and all this multiple times for every shot with him not holding the device lololol
he takes pride in his cinematography, rightfully so
@@allaboutfreedom144 Indeed. The shots are great. Love his style overall.
Les stroud did it first
@@user-zl2xp8id7d yeah this guy uses a lot of les stroud techniques
Seems like every outdoor TH-camr does it and it always seems silly when you notice it, but they are good shots and I can see why they’re worth the extra effort.
Great video, Luke...condolences on the loss of your Uncle...may he rest in peace...
I almost fell asleep to the rain hitting the tarp.
Best white noise ever😃😄
Luke sold me on the camp stool and I also love it 👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼 summer ball games with grandkids ……Perfect
Hey Luke, I was camping this past weekend and we stopped at an Amish country store in central Michigan and I found a lone Lodge cast iron lid for the 6 1/2" pan. I was so excited! Felt like I won a scavenger hunt. Course I bought it.
Blessings to you and your family .
My condolences. My dad passed away on July 4th. I was literally on the phone with him the night before. We talked for a couple of hours.
I'm sorry. I hope you're doing okay.
I love it so much.. camping in heavy rain 🌧
A friend of mine used the same tent last weekend in heavy rain. No issues at all. 🤔
Lonewolf902 is great TH-cam channel and it's in my top 5 channels to watch. Of course so is your channel Luke and Suzy. You guys are in my favorite #1 non agenda review channel. Thank you.
How old is yours? There is some chatter that their quality has diminished recently.
I have been a outdoor adventure for 50 pluss years and enjoy your advice. Been using your experience to make my experiences much more pleasant thanks
@@ajp2811 did you seam seal the vents closed? The tent is very much servicable i'd just be extra cautios in heavy rain.
@@tennyis28 i had them closed, but i didn't seal where the rain flap and mesh is. I thought About it
Thanks for another great video, you are still a standout contributor in the land of TH-cam.
Stay safe.
Best gear channel on TH-cam 👍👍👍👍👍🤜🤛
I try to always set my tent up at the house & give it good spray down w/the hose hitting all those seams & letting it dry out then repeating the spray. I camp ALOT & I’m in Virginia so it rains a lot. MY experience is usually that a brand new tent, after going through one decent storm, may leak at first but after that they’re fine. I don’t know if it’s just the seams need to get wet & expand or what. But I’ve had plenty of tents that leaked on the first storm but never again after that
Always a calming experience. The saturated fats are used to cover up the taste of the peas. Snowing here tonight! Winters first lick! Stay safe
"I am not a pea fan, how about you guys?" - Bear Grylls sweats nervously
Love pea soup or peas n butter or peas with mashed potatoes and gravy.. lots of pepper too
A tear runs down R Kelly's face.😢
peas with and without their shells with brokoli and some fatty salty water based sauce(butter olive oil you choose),soy sauce for salt, make em slightly crisp(not cooked ALL the way(brokoli)) and serve with a good juicy peace of meat,
i would DIE for that meal 11/10 times
I like peas mixed into my tuna noodle casserole.
@@oldredthereder4639 I like peas too. Although they aren't particularly healthy, even tho they're a veg.
Texas
I thought the same thing, then I realized he's testing the tent in the rain.
@@zachbolinger6963 same here
Very stunning views about the tarps and tent in our rainforest we use to put tarps on the top of our tent in case of heavy rain we get double protection on the top I mean from rain we normally use oversized waterproof fly so we can Cook and sit underneath it as well
This video shows a good reason to always carry a tarp. Image it started to rain like this. How do you set up your tent without soaking the inside before you get the rain fly on? At the very least you could spread the tarp out, climb under it and set the tent up that way.
Great shot of the coffee swirling in the cup. Campuccino at it's finest.
i love it. this is definitely one of the best episodes i've watched. Well done Luke !!
No matter the tent always check it out at home first. I’ve had to treat some high quality tents for water proofing
Right on! You're 100% RIGHT
So pleasant to hear what u have to say because it’s not blah blah just taking up space.

I'm waiting for a tent named "The Noah"! Honestly, it can rain 2" a day for 3 months and it should still be dry inside a tent... IMO
😂😂
You must be a Malaysian.
That’s a lot of rain for any 3 season tent. Glad it only leaked on you as little as it did! More importantly, how was the biscuits and gravy? 😁
I admire your optimism!
Love the video Luke! Such a beautiful forest you were in. I was expecting Bigfoot to cuddle you in your tent to keep out of the rain storm. Lol. Keep the awesome vid coming , love what you do. And please keep up the drama free channel I appreciate it .
Deepest sympathy and condolences to you and your family. Sorry for your loss. Keep up the great work! I always enjoy the videos! Cheers!
Love my UGQ bandit rated at 30 degrees. I don't feel too many people know about them.
I have the Bandit negative ten degree bag. Great!
Peas, as a kid I didn't care a ton for them but as an adult I seem to have developed an affinity for them.
Luke, I LOVE PEAS. Buttered with pearl onions, or a thick rich split pea soup with ham.
My Dad's split pea soup is amazing . He adds a couple bay leaves and some ham , even better leftover 🤠
@@lebowskiunderachiever3591 - Lots of soups get better with age for a few days anyway. More like a week for some soups, possibly longer. Brownies and cheesecake are better the next day, 24 hours after the cool down.
