Volunteering as I can at Trinity of Fairview a lot & made several runs to Fairview FD for them. I knew it has horrible out Garren Creek but it’s hard to see. Both Garren Creek & Fairview FD have been requesting the small ATV trailers to pull supplies to people . Northern Tool has them for $500 but no one has stepped up
I used to live up above Flat Creek, up behind Nesbitt's Chapel. Seeing you come up Garren Creek was shocking. It was the road I used during blizzards for safety: other than that one steep curve I could make it up from 74 pretty easily. Seeing you drive all that way just to get to Craigstown. . . Once you passed the firehouse my jaw was just hanging open. If people don't know, this is the. . . Was the. . . (Pauses in shock) . . . This area was positively bucolic. Just peaceful and radiated serenity from every meadow and gentle rolling hill. So sunny and calm. It really only got windy up on our ridge (and other ridges) as the wind fought to crest the mountain and up over route 9. That creek. . . Was basically a running drainage ditch on the side of the road. You would rarely even notice it at all much less EVER IMAGINE it could possibly do such damage. Up on the road on Flat Creeki dates a fella that had incorporated the creek to split into two teeny tiny streams, because he had built a long rectangular pool and the water flowed in on one side and out the other, then regained it's original creek. He had dug it out so it would do that to fill and keep the "pool" so it was fresh water and the dogs could jump in and cool off but it was so icy cold. It was up a driveway east of Flat Creek, utterly out of view of the road so skinny-dipping was an absolute option at all times. I kept looking for the big rock and gate at the bottom of his driveway but. . . Couldn't see a thing in all that wreckage. I knew so many people in the area. My friends horse pasture. Couldn't see it. The guy I bought hay bales from. My neighbor I helped lay down the tile floor. The other neighbors I helped build a deck. It's unrecognizable. I could drive my grandpa's old station wagon up and down that whole area no problem. But now it's. . . Copperheads used to slither out on the pavement to sun themselves mid day and heat up and you can't even see the pavement, as it clearly doesn't even exist in so many places. This was so shocking.
@@josephinethornton3823 It is heartbreaking at an absolute minimum. The debris is thought to have started about a mile up the mountain and the slide built from there. Truly unbelievable. Seeing it bad and I’m sorry if anything in my video was insensitive. I sincerely hope people see this and understand just how bad this is.
God bless for what you're doing to help. I'm all the way out west. Only thing I can do to help is send money to pilots flying stuff in, to help them buy Aviation fuel or supplies. That and prayers. Press on brother. God bless.

Walked a hollow that has been hit like this before. They wouldn't let us in there but we grew up here and got in anyway. the devastation is unreal. Wholes slabs of road moved and carried to different locations, dead animal smell, completely rerouted streams. Prayers to all. This is years of rebuilding here. This shit aint gonna happen overnight. Water lines, power lines, gas lines and that is the second step. After clean up.
This is just so sad to see this much destruction and you know there is also people who lost their lives and may never be found. I grew up on roads like this, one lane roads with two way traffic. It would be nice if you told where you were on some of the video so we could look at Google maps to really see the destruction. How it looked before versus now. It is so easy to tell looking at intestate 40 as parts of it are missing. It is somewhat more difficult on the roads you were on as parts of it resembled logging roads. I know it's not it just what it reminds me of. It also looked like you needed 4 wheel drive in some of these locations and it may have been helpful to let your viewers know when that was necessary. I have a steep driveway and when it has rained and I back up it I need to be in 4 wheel drive. Thank you for your video. It helps us see the devastation and how much work needs to be done to bring a sense of normalcy back to these strong people.
I mentioned the locations in the video. I just didn’t highlight it. Day one was Burney Mountain. Day 2, above Gerton and Fairview, NC up to Garren Creek / Craigtown. I used 4WD on the water crossings and on any steep dirt & gravel sections to avoid tearing up the surface. Thanks for watching.
I have doom scrolled a lot of content from Helene but this was so some of the worst devastation I have seen. Those piles of of flood debris are taller then the snow piles we had in NY growing up. Thanks for what your doing and documenting it.
it's really cool to hear about the military and civilians working alongside each other logistically. Why didn't this happen from day 1? Why wasn't the military out there helping people on day 1 and 2? I don't get it
@@moonasha The unloading was straightforward. @@SecretSquirrelOffroad- It took so long because the Governor didn’t call the National Guard out right away, unlike in Florida. One day after Hurricane Milton hit DeSantis had the national guard called out.
Let some of tire pressure out of all tires even the tires on the trailer. How much depends on the tires and the weight. But allowing the tires to flex over some of those rough spots will help prevent a pinch flat. Not sure what you are running on your jeep but if you have off road tires like 30-35s you can run about 20lbs and be okay for none highway. Lower if the road is really bad but I wouldn't go below 10. Just lower the tire enough to get some tire flex but not so much that you go over something and the rim makes contact with the ground. Doing this will also help make the ride a bit more comfortable as well.
I air down all the time off-road. The trailer was pulled by one of the trucks. The flat was a catastrophic wheel failure. He was running lower pressure, but hit a rough spot. Thanks for the input. People can def learn from the benefits of airing down off-road. I had my quad hose and compressor just in case. I run Method wheels with kind of an internal bead grip.
I think it was 10 or 12 pallets. Very hot and loud. Blades spinning and the jets idling the entire time. You learn where not to stand quickly. Thank you 82nd Airborne Division!
I have a '21 Ford Ranger with a 2.5 inch leveling/lift and 32" tires. In the last few years of off roading, I've done enough level 3 and 4 trails and I know my truck's limits. One day we may find ourselves in an emergency situation such as is the case in your area and my vehicle and experience will pay off as yours has for you. We have snow to contend with here in the Western PA area, too, so I'm running 3 peak Mickey Thompson Baja Boss tires. I know that many years ago in one of the worst snow storms to hit the Pittsburgh area, folks with 4WD volunteered to drive doctors to and from the local hospitals and were given permission to drive on closed to the public roadways. God Bless those who are helping in NC and who are shining the light.

I LOVE how locals, outsiders, charities, military, and governments work together! Reminded me of my military days! Sad that local republican and democrat elected leaders, who know best, said partisan conspiracy rumors were hurting rescue efforts. PS I've looked at many videos from those there. Of course help can't get to every person fast enough. Of course some bad instances. One sheriff got in the way. An army helicopter accidently flew close to supplies and a report is being made. But other rumors were contradicted. Musk thanked Buttigieg for correcting his confusion between FAA and FEMA. And several rumors were nonsense like the government made the hurricane (they are natural but the unnaturally heated Gulf of Mexico makes them worse). America is great when we work together. Thanks.

If people don't know, this is the. . . Was the. . .
(Pauses in shock)

One day we may find ourselves in an emergency situation such as is the case in your area and my vehicle and experience will pay off as yours has for you.
We have snow to contend with here in the Western PA area, too, so I'm running 3 peak Mickey Thompson Baja Boss tires. Thanks.
