After listening to Jim talk about his creative process and him leaving alcohol and struggling with the idea that he feels unsure about himself when creating if he is not like in a bad place emotionally, I think I understand the lyrics better. Like he is expressing all that and how he tries staying 'mentally healthy' everyday and not drinking alcohol, and trying to kind of push himself in a positive state and change his mindset and not worry too much about the reception of his music if he is just enjoying himself. Don't worry, Jim, you are still a legend already no matter what.
In 2019 I was struggling with alcohol BADLY. I’d cry to this song, like I’m crying for help but didn’t know the way out. It was also around that time Jim said on a podcast he already had a few years of alcohol sobriety after a rough struggle. I’m 3.5 years sober now and really am “doing the things that I’m told everyday”, instead of curling up into a ball on the floor drunkenly crying and listening to this song. I felt so hopeless, but this song spoke to me in the deep and it speaks to me even more now that I understand sobriety. To “keep my focus on the simple things, try to find some peace along the way”. This entire album is about his sobriety journey and you can convince me otherwise. 😊 It’s a beautiful but extremely complicated roller coaster finding peace without poison. This album is so beautifully humble and honest
I love this. It reminds me of some of the emotional pop songs that were out when I was a kid, from people like Genesis, Peter Gabriel, Cyndi Lauper, etc.
I can relate to that. Oddly enough, when this video dropped I was going through some really really heavy stuff and I was literally thinking about how I can't change anything that's going on no matter how bad I want to then this song pops up on my feed. Once again, Jimmy Eat World comes out what's something I need to hear at a very dark time
Mu brother died in 2011 of lung cancer. Jimmy Eat World got me through some really really shit days. I just got to see them live for this albums release in the UK last month and it has reminded me how much they affected and helped my life. I genuinely can say they are my favourite band now and forever. Also on the off chance any of them read this. Thanks for getting me through the worst time in my life. I wouldn't be here without you guys.
I work security at a music venue, and a few months ago during a show a fight broke out and I was assaulted, and I ended up falling head-first down a flight of stairs, where I suffered a concussion, multiple skull fractures and missing teeth, hearing loss and a torn rotator cuff. As someone who suffers daily from depression and anxiety, this incident is not at all what I needed. I had a lot of downtime during my recuperation. This video was released around the time of the incident, and it caught my intrigue through suggested videos one day. I'm glad I watched it. This song describes exactly how I felt in the midst of rehabilitation and dr appointments and all the physical and mental pain, and this song helped me not only cope with my temporarily poor mental condition, but it also helped bring me back to 100%. The visuals in this video are astounding and surreal, the sound and vibe of the song along with the lyrics are powerfully uplifting and the message is strong. Thanks so much for helping me get back to where I need to be. I won't forget it. Well done.
@@Alsax1985 I'm not sure what I'd be explaining. Jimmy Eat World has been one of my favorite bands for quite a number of years. All the points I've referenced add up to musical poetry that speaks to me. The video is actually fairly irrelevant to me as regards the band's artistry.
I had a weird day.. My online class was canceled, I ordered food at a bad restaurant, I struggled with my dad's stupid comments about the past.. when I failed 2 years at school (lockdown is keeping people thinking about past, I have found that in many people) Now, regarding this song.. Oh 555! We are all here Brother! I have ALways BEEN WITH YOU! Even when I may have forgotten. it was all in my HEART of HEARTS! LOVE YOU BROTHER JAMES!
Alright, I finally had to comment on this amazing video and song. It seems to me like a person who has kept the faith and is approaching middle age, with none of the tangible rewards that were expected. The growing sense that it was all for nothing, that there wasn't always a reason for the pain. The setting of a sci fi movie with cheesy special effects is like all the tricks that your mind uses to convince you to keep going down a path that isn't like anyone said it would be. To convince you there is a chorus of agreeing voices with you, but its just one voice cleverly manipulated. It is all smoke and mirrors to both entertain us and keep us playing our parts, without telling us it is all empty. I feel like they paid close attention to his emoting, and especially the times the smile drops enough to reveal doubt, worry, and sadness in the eyes.
This needs to be a rock opera. I love the 80s aesthetic, the brooding dark lord vibe. I'm kind of reminded of "Mr Freeze" a little bit, and the heartbreak feel has that slight emotional abrasiveness. Great song, and I would totally watch a rock opera with this look and feel.
Love it, for those of you that don’t know “555” are a set of angel numbers which means change. Sometimes when the universe or god is trying to get your attention you’ll notice sets of repeating numbers all over the place. It’s crazy because it’s almost unreal but when you have faith and trust delving into the great unknown it’s odd to say it but everything just slips into place naturally. Truth is no matter how much we fight or resist, change is inevitable. What’s will be is going to be no matter the amount of straining or stressing you do over it. But what’s meant to be will be and things have a way of working themselves out for the highest good of all. So just enjoy the moment when your life’s journey is transitioning. Great song.
Thank you for this- I knew it had to do with angels/signs we see when we need it most- and I was going to look it up and then I saw this comment. It’s a beautiful reminder to me that someone is watching.
its not. jimmy eat worlds lead singer said its about trying to call the ghostbusters 555 number when he was a kid and the disappointment of finding out its not a real number.
@@tcorbhuman lmao but it is, angel numbers are real. Only those who have had the experience know what I’m talking about. On that note Music is open to interpretation that’s the beauty of it. It’s felt not heard but I didn’t know that about the track title. It’s cool to know that was his inspiration for the art piece.
Had to leave my ex of 7 years for good. I will never forget driving from Paragould, AR to my hometown just blasting Jimmy Eat World. The only band that got me through it all.
I’ve had this album in my pocket for quite some time. I respect and loved you all from Bleed America. I’m 42 and just now am dealing with extreme abuse from the age of 5. Never had anything to prove
But never was anyone like you
All you fought through
All you had to face
Made you stronger, unafraid
Got the feeling I've been talking to a dead, dead line
Always a reason to let it change
Is there anyone there listening while you cry, cry, cry
Always a reason for the pain
I'm doing the things I've been told everyday, everyday, everyday
Then why does it feel like I'm moving in place, in a place, in a place
I gotta believe that you're there
When I sing, when I sing, when I sing
Cause if you're not real then I'm losing my head, in my head, in my head
Got the feeling I've been talking to a dead, dead line
Always a reason let it change
Is there anyone there listening while you cry, cry, cry
Always a reason for the pain
I'm doing the things I've been told everyday, everyday, everyday
Then why does it feel like I'm moving in place, in a place, in a place
I gotta believe that you're there
When I sing, when I sing, when I sing
Cause if you're not real then I'm losing my head, in my head, in my head
I keep my focus on the simple things
Trying to find some peace along the way
After listening to Jim talk about his creative process and him leaving alcohol and struggling with the idea that he feels unsure about himself when creating if he is not like in a bad place emotionally, I think I understand the lyrics better.
Not a dea... Not a de.a ... Line. Dada dad that lied to his child like jew🎉
I love everything about this video.
The song. The lyrics. The video. Everything. Thank you.
Oklahomamarker COULDNT agree more
I love this. It reminds me of some of the emotional pop songs that were out when I was a kid, from people like Genesis, Peter Gabriel, Cyndi Lauper, etc.
I'm hearing this for the first time. Wow. ❤❤❤❤❤
Akkasam ❤❤❤❤❤
Wow just came across this song on another video about one hit wonders and their other songs, have to say this sounds amazing.
This amazing song came out exactly a year ago. Feels like yesterday.
I keep hearing everyone say they grew up on this song. lol
@@johnnyhempseed84 Lmaooo
I remember when it came out I'd listen to it all the time. I'd have it on loop on my way to and from college. Simpler times.
Damnnnn it really does
More like 2009
You’re amazing guys. This is awesome and magic.
I really need a behind the scenes or making of for this video. Such a weird video but I love it!
Melissa 💯!
Mostly green screen and editing. The makeup would be cool to see tho.

music keeps me going.. thanks for everything
One of the best songs in 2019!!! Thank you, Jimmy!
This band has helped me pull through some very dark periods in my life.
I can relate to that. Oddly enough, when this video dropped I was going through some really really heavy stuff and I was literally thinking about how I can't change anything that's going on no matter how bad I want to then this song pops up on my feed. Once again, Jimmy Eat World comes out what's something I need to hear at a very dark time
Amen to that...JEW, over the last 15 years has been a 'go-to' for me.
"Pain" always helped 🤝
Well done.
Ouch. You're my hero. Welcome back to health.
Thanks for sharing.
I hope you had completely recovered.
It's incredible how many times we experience conincidences as with songs!
I hope you are ok or better now bud!
Good man
Oh wow! I hope you're feeling much better now!
Still one of the best songs in the last few years. Incredible.
Jimmy Eat World: brilliant as ever, vocally, lyrically, emotionally.
Care to explain?
@@Alsax1985 I'm not sure what I'd be explaining. Jimmy Eat World has been one of my favorite bands for quite a number of years. All the points I've referenced add up to musical poetry that speaks to me. The video is actually fairly irrelevant to me as regards the band's artistry.
@@Alsax1985 '555' says everything, the rest of the song explains the cry of #555. #numerology #beyondthisrealm #omen
You've obviously never listened to clarity.
I agree.
I legit really like this video. I don't know why but it's really stuck with me.
I had a weird day.. My online class was canceled, I ordered food at a bad restaurant, I struggled with my dad's stupid comments about the past.. when I failed 2 years at school (lockdown is keeping people thinking about past, I have found that in many people)
Now, regarding this song.. I had it as a recomendation. I didn't pay attention to its lyrics until now that I've been dealing with depression and anxiety, I know must of us do in this time..
I don't know what it is but that Chorus hits yours soul like nothing else. Absolutely incredible Song.
WE NEED PART 2 TO THIS SONG
This is easily one of the my favorite 2019 songs.
same
I know! I always thought fondly of Jimmy Eat World but I havent really listened to much of them in several years. I clicked this video out of curiosity, not really expecting to love it like I am
You need to come to planet earth, we have music here.
probably one of my favorite JEW songs of all time.
Matthew Hyatt Ok that‘s a stretch to think that this is their best song of all time.. I know it‘s about preference and shot BUT Hell NO! It‘s a great song and I love it but their best of all time‘ hell nah
This just might be my favorite thing on the internet ...
I agree! And I'm gay! There's a Ton on the internet that's my favorite!
(I'm also leaving this comment on my hubby's account, bwahahahaha!) (-
@@rodneycagle-foster8750 Lmao, so much is my favorite...You're gay, I'm a writer...we have Jimmy Eat World in common...Have a gorgeous day, my friend!!!

@@rodneycagle-foster8750 omg, you're so gay!!! Love you...tell hubby he's got the best hubby ever!!!
insanely talented band.... this is pure art
This is the moment when I miss the old MTV days... this video will be perfect for the "making of ..." show... also this song has some retro vibe...
Lost in the seeming shock of everything is the low-key amazing acting on display by Jim Adkins here... On an album full of bangers, this is the one for me.
#JimmyRuleWorld
The weirdness of this music video keeps me captivated, but the song itself I began to like more every time I listen to it.
As an older fella.... This song could be placed down in 1986 and be at home..... Such a great song. I'm amazed it's not a smash...... It's a shame.
I can’t look away. I can’t stop watching. I’ve started rhythmic clapping. Is this how it starts?
We are Borg. The Sweetness is futile.
Exactly what i was expecting Jim! man what a deep hitting song. The people will love it!
I listen to this song everyday. It's motivating and inspiring.
the same happens to me, but everyone I showed it to, keep telling me is sad...
@@MrMoylien It's sad...and not sad at the same time. It's basically about acceptance. Look up its meaning when you have a moment. :o)
should listen to all of JEW's stuff, cause its all great.
Oh 555! We are all here Brother! I have ALways BEEN WITH YOU! Even when I may have forgotten. it was all in my HEART of HEARTS! LOVE YOU BROTHER JAMES!
Let's Go for 5 MILLION VIEWS! They Deserve it.
Maybe you just never learned the source of the pain?
So criminally underrated...
They played this in Nashville the other day and it’s been stuck in my head ever since.
I wish they'd put a whole album out in this style! Too damn good
I’ll never be able to unsee this.
I’m not even the biggest Jimmy Eat World fan, but I love this.
It is absolutely criminal this song only has 7 M views
This needs to be a rock opera. I love the 80s aesthetic, the brooding dark lord vibe. I'm kind of reminded of "Mr Freeze" a little bit, and the heartbreak feel has that slight emotional abrasiveness. Great song, and I would totally watch a rock opera with this look and feel.
Yeah, I think this got lost in translation with certain fans. I enjoyed it though
@@perturbedxtirade7428 if anyone watched the video and missed this part th-cam.com/video/XU-TZiVVaTE/w-d-xo.html they weren't watching close enough XD
Strange yet awesome video lol love the song! 80's Sci-Fi vibes!
It’s a beautiful reminder to me that someone is watching.
you are a MANIAC!
its not. jimmy eat worlds lead singer said its about trying to call the ghostbusters 555 number when he was a kid and the disappointment of finding out its not a real number.

I was not expecting this to be so good. I didn't miss it, i was just a little late. ❤
Had to leave my ex of 7 years for good. I will never forget driving from Paragould, AR to my hometown just blasting Jimmy Eat World. The only band that got me through it all.
I’ve had this album in my pocket for
quite some time. I respect and loved you all from Bleed America. I’m 42 and just now am dealing with extreme abuse from the age of 5. I’ve (like others) live a very broken existence and this song has given me a breakthrough in therapy and psychology that I’ve never had. I am becoming a freer me though this amazing perfection of amazing lyrics.
This has to be one of the best music videos of 2019
That song just got to the moment when i was like listnening for songs of my teenage like "work", "pain", unheard for decades, when i heard that, standing in a winter forest alone, being a little high. and just wow!!
1st listen: wtf is this,
2nd listen: mildly catchy.
3rd-50th listen: OMG IS SO EPIC
1th listen: um........is this Jimmy?
end of 1th listen: I think I need to rethink my world-view.
2nd listen without watching the vid. I was like shit this is awesome...rolls spliff
Terry Shearer rolling one as we speak. Cheers
That is what I felt . . . .

I can't get this out of my head. This will be remembered as an all time classic
Alan Burke same, i feel this song deep.
soo you one of them 2:50 (us)
This is for the people who love 80's music.
Don't mind if I do!
it does sort of remind me of The Cure and David Bowie to be honest.
This isn't 80's music fuckface
Definitely has an 80s feel especially with nice simplicity but powerful feel to it
@@cank4548 No! theyve been around since the 90's and I always hated them! Not heavy enough but this definitely has a new age modern 80's approach and feel to it. Just tried listening to more of the album and this is the only song I will probably ever play! Now that I know who it is. Powerful powerful fucking song!
This song deserves a full movie!
This is so good but you must hear “Whispering Wolf” or “The Wave Acoustic” by SLT 🤘🎶🤘
