I'd love to see KD become a Celtic, I just don't know if I can get behind letting go of Marcus Smart. Smart is a huge part of that Celtics lockeroom and the heart if their defense, alongside Williams III.
@noblejun the fact that you're actually down for that kind of a trade for Kevin Durant just kind of shows that you don't have the mind to actually think things through. You're trading away a young core for a player who's had two Achilles tendon surgeries mind you and is closing in on his mid 30s in his life and chances are he's not going to be in the league for the remainder of his contract. Why get rid of your second best player on your team who is in his early to mid 20s and has broken through as an All-Star and is a key component to your offense and your team as a whole? Let's not forget here, the Celtics swept the Nets. And one of the players that was consistently hounding Kevin Durant was.........who was it..........oh yeah..... Jalen brown. If you think that this is a good trade in any sense you can go kick rocks.

@@jom5343 it won’t be fine if he was a free agent but this time he is getting traded. KD has no say or leverage. He has to play for the team that traded for him. If the Celtics trade for him, that is more on the Celtics than KD because the Celtics wanted KD.
I'm not 100% sure having KD instead of Brown / Smart and other good defensive pieces puts Boston automatically over the top... we will have to see.

Durant being that missing piece for teams seems very unrealistic.
Not only because you have to move something good to get him.
Durant misses a tonne of games, often stops the ball from moving (which in Bostons case was an issue last year) plus he is 34.
I would much rather have the great player and depth I already have than lose it for an ageing injury prone big time name.

As another celtics fan I would be disappointed if this trade went through I think the celtics should keep their young core and great rotation playes and try to win Champs with both Jay's on the roster. And not trade for a 34 year old guy who might be washed in the few next seasons

As a Celtics fan. I hate the idea of JB being traded. Yes, . Jaylen is also at a point where he's ready to be the number 1 option on a team also cuz arguably he's on par with Tatum with an unknown ceiling. Only thing keeping them apart from definitive proof JB is better is the fact his injuries kept him from playing as much--Celtics had to put that ball in JTs hands. Hate bringing up anything Draymond green says but KD offers championship experience. "Al couldn't prepare them for that (Respectfully, I love Al to death)." KD will be most likely the best Hall of Fame mentor Tatum could ever hope to have and hate to say this but KD is a bucket and always has been. Realization that the disrespect the Cs have put on Jaylen has been criminal and almost thinking he deserves better.
As a Nets fan, I'm just glad players the caliber of KD, Kyrie and Harden chose to play for our team. Ironically, the Celtics destroyed the Nets with their trade for KG back in the day. I'm hoping we get everything we can for KD and then some. Rebuild. Back at it in 3-5 years.

As a Cal guy, I've always been a big Jaylen Brown fan! He may not be quiet as talented as Tatum, but he's WAY more consistent on BOTH ends of the court. This would be a GREAT trade for the Nets!

This is a comment from someone that shows why they shouldn't do this trade. I understand that KD is a great score. However Jaylen Brown is extremely young doesn't have severe injuries like two Achilles tendon surgeries and is good on both sides of the floor making his team better. Kevin Durant is not a good defender let's be honest. He's an okay one. Getting rid of Jalen Brown for Kevin Durant is a freaking colossal mistake.

If the Celts are going for the former as opposed to the latter, then they make the KD trade. Bird in hand beats two in the bush. I think the Nets would end up with the better end of this deal in the long run.

@@fashionlife5348 2019-20 KD injured so probably not 2020-2021 Maybe if the chemistry works out and locker room issues aren't a problem 2021-22 Probably if no locker room issues and if Tatum & Brown still developed into the stars they are now. So that's probably 1-2 rings if everything worked smoothly. Still a better situation than the Nets currently 😂. They still would have found a way to be competitive at least even if KD &Kyrie had injury/covid issues unlike the 40 win seasons the Nets had.

I’m a Celtics fan and oh my god idk what to think about this news. One minute I’m happy and another I don’t want to lose Jaylen and potentially Marcus, people don’t realize how important Marcus smart is to the Celtics
It's not even just the aspect that Marcus Smart is without a doubt the best perimeter defender on that team. Jaylen Brown is a part of that young core that is so good and so scary that there's no way within the next 5 years you guys don't win a championship. Jalen Brown should not be getting traded for a player who has had two Achilles tendon surgeries and is closing in on his mid-30s. And he himself said he probably won't be playing past the age of 36 in the league. So why take on a contract for Kevin Durant that puts him at the age of 37 or 38 when he won't even be in the NBA to play out the remainder of his contract years? It's a dumb trade. It makes no sense in value-wise the Celtics are shafting themselves. I understand how great Kevin Durant is but do you want longevity for your franchise or do you want 3 years? Because the East is pretty much up in the air.

Then they add a few meaningless picks that will most likely be late first round picks. So the Celtics will still be good right now and for the future. With KD, they will easily be the favorites to win it all.

man as a nets fan I would be really happy with this. we could run it back with kd and kyrie but I really don't think that will result in a championship, and its a lot more likely we will fail and suck for a while after kd gets washed. the trade suggested with lets say a 2030 frp when they get access to it and a pick swap in 24 or 26 (preferably both but im biased) would be good value for both teams. then the nets could trade kyrie and seth curry for westbrook and 2 picks, or another deal that is similar. then buyout westbrook, and the nets would have much-needed draft assets, 2 young stars, quality role players, some decent youth, they cleared a lot of money off the roster, and they can have the divas trying to run the franchise behind them. ben simmons is still an issue but im gonna wait to judge him until i see what he looks like on the court again

Many would forget this but if this trade goes thru, basically the Nets are getting Jaylen Brown back as the pick that Boston used to draft Brown was the Nets' pick that was part of the KG, Pierce to Nets deal.
Not sure how much celtics need this trade. They had an awesome season, and they lost in the finals to the warriors who played incredible.

- Jaylen Brown
- Marcus Smart
- A rotation player (Derrick White or Grant Williams)
- 3 1st round picks

Perhaps hot take - smart, brown and white/grant are more valuable than Durrant.
Brown is an all star and smart's effect is near all star - his shooting is not consistent enough to be an elite offensive threat, but he is not a horrible 3pt shooter and he shoots a lot, so his shooting percentages are a bit deceiving because of his tough shot attempt. An elite defense that changes the game is rare - him being traded will make the c's defense to be average. If the cs keep the core, and add some veterans, they can win without taking the kd risk.

90% sure it won’t happen. KD and Kyrie will be with Nets and Celtics won’t go all in on KD who is older and injury prone, also has a track record of not sticking to a team (no matter the yrs on contract).
JB, Smart, and a bunch of picks? For me I'd rather give up Tatum on a straight up trade if they wanna win now. But tbh, just run it back. This is still a young team that has dynasty potential.
If the trade goes down for JB, Marcus Smart, and Imma say Grant williams with picks for KD, I see the Nets as the better team. Brown and Smart had the leader aura around them more often in Playoffs than Tatum. Plus Brown to my eye test played more like a Kobe than Tatum. KD and tatum both look like they have that quietbm but powerful punches, but they're quiet. They will need a leader. Plus I see this: JB, Kyrie, Smart, Williams, Ben Simmons is pretty strong Line Up.

In all reality they should take Jalen out of that trade and put Tatum in Jalen plays both sides of the ball extremely well and he didn't vanish towards the end of the playoffs, the Celtics would have more and and keeping Jalen over Tatum makes a lot of sense financially. But I don't really see the Nets trading with Boston and have to play KD that many times. I still think he ends up in Phoenix! And if KD doesn't end up in Phoenix I think there's a chance LeBron will.

Every Celtics rotation player got shut down in the finals except for Brown and Williams--idk why White, Pritchard are valued at all when they were unplayable in the finals but the Celtics didn't have depth to take them out of the rotation like Theis.
Edit: I guess White isn't valued since the Cs were willing to trade him right away but the Nets didn't want him.

At this point of KD's career, he seems like a gem that nobody wants lol. After seeing Warriors and Bucks winning with homegrown talent, I think it will start a new era where teams are prefering young drafted talents and build a working team with real chemistry. It is good to see the league grow this way, but still a sorry sight for KD anyway.
Champions are champions not because they are homegrown but because the impact of the superstars.

My team is not the Celtics nor is it the Warriors, but, just as an NBA fan, I love the idea of Warriors and Celtics meeting in the finals next year with KD trying to beat the team that made him a champion. That would be a really fun storyline and an epic battle.
If Lakers could dump Russ and get Kyrie and make some kind of move at the deadline a Lakers v. Celtics with LBJ and Kyrie vs KD in the finals would also be freaking amazing. I think it will not be a wise choice for the C's to bring in KD. KD's 34, injury prone, and has nearly 2-3 years of his prime left. The Jays and Marcus smart have a good chem, already favourites, and Bringing in KD could disrupt the locker room (*cough* Kyrie) and the championship the C's are hoping to win.

I don't see the celtics seriously going in for KD. I think Brad Stevens is more astute than Danny Ainge is. He knows what its like to coach a star who doesn't want to be there, with a fan favorite going in the other direction as well.
Ainge is happy to try and go big or make big trades away. We're seeing this at the moment with the Jazz.
This is a core who have made 3 conference finals and a nba finals in 5 years. They're going in the right direction, they're still young and Brogdon might just be enough with maybe a couple more role players, to push them over the edge and win it all in the next year or 2. They've gain valuable experience, so the future is bright without getting KD.

I still believe that this "offer" was leaked by the Nets to hpye up KD talks. I don't think Brad Stevens would sell the farm for a 2 year championship window as compared to 8. JB and JT will continue to improve while the current superstars will begin to decline.
