Donovan Mitchell is officially on the trade market. ESPN has reported the Jazz are listening to offers for the All-Star but it will take a significant package. This is a look at what Utah would accept and how Mitchell is trapped.

Mitchell might be a franchise player but he is in the bottom of the list. Jazz might build around him for some playoffs appearance or go with the tough decision of trading him and rebuild from zero; if you wanna a ring I'd go with the latter
He's a 2nd option at best on a title team but u can build a franchise around him as a rebulinding team but he needs to improve his playmaking also defense.

Why does everyone keep repeating the myth that stars want to play in New York. How many stars have the Knicks signed over the past 30 years?

Actually, a lot of nba executives have quit the kd race because they just "roll their eyes" at pat riley because they think pat can just " throw his rings on the table " and assemble kd. from what it is looking at right now, the miami heat are the frontrunners.

Mitchell is a 6'1 but has a 7'0 wingspan which is pretty crazy.
It would be crazy if he could use that wingspan to defend people on the court

I don’t really know why Donovan Mitchell has so much trade value, and maybe he doesn’t, but teams like the Knicks and Heat are definitely interested in him. I think the Nets might even do a Spida for KD trade.

It would have to be a three team trade, so KD would be going to Phoenix, Spida would be going to Brooklyn, and Deandre Ayton would go to Utah.

Why? Donovan is a 3x all star, from the area so likely to stay long term, then they don't have to worry about possibly paying RJ a max contract. Plus, they have tons of firsts, the Knicks need star power, not future assets. This is what they have been saving those picks for
They don’t. NY reporters say the Knicks ain’t giving up RJ in a Mitchell package. If they have to, it’s not going to happen. Just stuff more picks in there, everyone on the team should be possible save for Barrett.

NY has to keep Barrett for Mitchell to work, but Brunson, Mitchell, Barrett, Randle, Hartenstein can at least be competitive while the Knicks wait til they can move Randle or add another 4/5 down the line. Utah has like 15 1s over the next few years before they gain other assets for guys like Bogdonavic, Clarkson, Conley, Beverly etc.

As a Jazz fan the thing that bugs the crap out of me is the lack of court vision and the fact a short guard cannot pass the ball. He never passes the ball to his teammate in their pocket. The location and timing is horribly off. Would drive me nuts watching him pass the Gobert way too early or too late on top of it being in a bad spot on the pick and roll or if he passed the ball out to a shooter it would always be way out of their pocket.

Uh Mitchell is actually a pretty competent perimeter defender? I don't know why there's a narrative that he's a bad defender.
Knicks aren't trading Barrett either, if they're trading for Mitchell it's to pair with Barrett
@G-e-o-r-g-e he can, he's very much the same as Harden. When he wants to put in the effort he will otherwise he's saving that energy for a 50 piece the other way.

He's had a defensive rating of 112 for the past 2-3 seasons. I would not call that pretty competent. The Jazz's defensive rating as a team was an impressive 104 which ranks 1st in the NBA, when Gobert was on the floor and when Gobert sat on the bench it became a disgusting 114, which ranks 28th in the NBA. Not saying that's all Mitchell's fault, but Mitchell was a part of the problem. The Jazz practically let Gobert handle all the defense himself and team basketball don't work that way. The Jazz should have easily handled the Mavs in the 1st round. Luka missed the first 3 games because of injury. With no Luka the next best player on the Mavs was Jalen Brunson, who is a good player, but shouldn't be nowhere near the talent Donavan Mitchell is. But if someone just started watching the NBA and tuned into that series, they wouldn't think that to be true. Brunson averaged 28ppg on 48/36/84 splits in the series. Mitchell averaged 25 ppg on 40/28/88 splits. Utah's star got outshined by a role player.

I'd love to see the heat get Lonzo Seth and Portis Jr. They'd obviously have to trade Herro, Lowry, Gabe and more. Lonzo can be a 3&D playmaker, Seth a shooter, Portis a stretch and defender

he singed he's rookie extension because they were pushing the playoffs but always failed to make a run with gobert and donovan . the jazz decided to trade gobert but didn't get a star in return just picks , so now donovan is on a team that can barley go to the playin so he has to spend he's 3 year ( which are probably his prime as well ) on a loosing team that didn't want to retool and make another run with him

Casey, love your content, but definitely some issues with this vid. RJ Barrett has already been announced as off-limits by the Knicks and the Jazz don't want him due to the need to extend him. There's no way that Heat deal is remotely good enough for Utah either, and honestly, Miami has no shot at getting Mitchell with the package the Knicks can give, the apparently low value of Herro on the trade market/the Jazz's desires, and another factor you forgot to mention: Danny Ainge and Pat Riley absolutely HATE each other. Herro also has the same issue as Barrett: he needs an extension, and even worse he has failed to prove even starting caliber. Odds are Mitchell's headed to the Knicks, but for more picks and no RJ Barrett. The Jazz have very limited leverage here, unlike what the media stupidly says, and Mitchell wants to be home in NY.

My beef with Trading RJ is that while I agree he probably isn't an all-star, I do think he has it in his to be an exceptional 3-and-D wing, and with a backcourt of Brunson and Mitchell, they will need that. If they trade RJ and Fournier the Knicks will be relying on Cam Reddish as the only SF. Could turn out well enough, but considering Thibbs had 0 desire to play the kid...idk.

I believe since they acquired ban via the draft, not trade, that they can get another player on the rookie max extension on the team. I think the nets can't do it because they traded for Ben Simmons.

Pretty similar to yours with the only big difference of Turner going to Brooklyn instead of Phoenix.
Simmons likely gets traded again from Utah (who would be in rebuilding mode) and i also think if that Happens the Nets Keep Kyrie (as there's no market value for him outside of Westbrook anyways) and give their best shot at the championship.

Mitchell is the NBA’s version of Michael Owen
I feel like the Heat would fit for him more, he has defense around him. Let me explain 2 situations with 2 different teams (Knicks) Donovan Mitchell is just an undersized shot chucker who plays no defense, (Heat) Donovan Mitchell is a multi time all star who barely turned 25 makes the Heat contenders for the next 8-10 years with a great front office. This is why Donovan fits the Heat more, because the Heat already got great defense with Jimmy Butler, Kyle Lowry and Bam Adebayo and if the Heat get a true Center then the Heat are contenders with Mitchell on the team. Donovan Mitchell and Jimmy Butler who also plays defense do all the scoring while Kyle Lowry sets up either Mitchell or Jimmy Butler to score while Bam anchors the defense and it also gives Jimmy Butler offensive help in the playoffs and that’s what they really lacked against Boston besides not being healthy, I still think the Heat would’ve beaten Boston if they were healthy but if Donovan Mitchell was there then the Heat would definitely be champs and that’s what Donovan Mitchell would do for the Heat for the next 8-10 years in my opinion.
