    About this video:
    An old rumor was that herpes can only be transmitted when an outbreak is present. Unfortunately, that's 100% false! There's this thing called viral shedding where a person infected with herpes can unknowingly transmit it to and an uninfected person.

    I will say this. I usually have an outbreak about once a year and I was married for several years. She was aware of it and she never got it. I was actually in a relationship when I got it. It's a pretty messed-up thing because I wasn't sleeping around or anything. If you tell someone you have it nine times out of ten they won't even date you. So I am ashamed to also say I have been with people I didn't tell when I did not have an outbreak and I know them and I've never got a message from any of them telling me that they came down with it. So I'm thinking it's not as easily pass on if you do not have an outbreak

      Since 80% of the population has HSV1, usually in a form of cold sores, you've probably come in contact with it many times before, you just don't know. It's very unlikely you got it, unless he had an outbreak. So, we would advise against worrying :).

      Yes, that is what it was used to believe and sadly, many doctors still claiming that. The truth is, there is asymptomatic shedding that can occur with every virus, and most commonly, then is when we transmit.
      However, that doesn't mean you need to stop kissing or having sex. It just means to communicate and your partner will have to accept that there's a small chance for that happening. Part of the relationship, part of accepting things about our partners.

    • @Fohawk151
      @Fohawk151 28 วันที่ผ่านมา

      @lifewithherpes Well, in my case, I happen to have a different form of hsv-1 that's identified as Mat herpes. Which is very common amonst wrestlers. I've never had a cold sore or a genital wart. But I happen to get a circle-patch of warts on either the right side of my forehead or right side behind my neck, right where it connects to my shoulder whenever ever it's an active outbreak. However, when I was infected, it was on my left middle finger from the opening wound of the cuticle of my finger. So essentially, the rule has been , as it's been taught or suggested to me. Is to make no contact when active, making sure the outbroke area isn't making contact with anyone else , with the exception of being on Anti-virals for 3 days that would allow me participate on a wrestling mat or otherwise spread by the cross of my sweat. Personally, I just take the week off it's not a grand event. But back in my high school days, it was " Take your medicine and get back to work."" Now, as far as my sex life , I've never given it to anyone "that I know of, " both protected and unprotected sex . I've never had sex with an outbreak, but I've exchanged sexual fluids on maybe more half of my affairs, but no passing of any infections "that I know of." With those results , I simply got into the habit of never disclosing that information cause it looked like I couldn't pass it genitaly or by lip let alone any skin part as long as I just wasn't active in general. Via. Up until now, a previous partner who also had Hsv-1 on the lips and wasn't broken out when we were making sexual contact. Except until one night, she was freshly shaven and woke up with an outbreak on the right side of the vaginal labia the next morning. And test positive for hsv-2 about a week later. I do have a consideration that she may have gotten that from someone else because that first outbreak didn't come until a month after we started making sexual contact . But then again, it may have just not been ready to break out, yet since she was mentioning other symptoms, she also proclaimed about the history of sensitivity down there. So, at this point, I could have very well given to her. It could have passed from her Hsv-1, but both of us were never active in hsv-1 " that i know of." I have still yet to not have a lip or genital breakout since her breakout, and I remember I hadn't even taken a shower until the end of that day since we were trying to schedule a check up all day since her breakout. Either way, I know that was a lot - it may be possible - but also with my ever lack of any outbreak , my last one being waaaaay prior to her, and still no present to future outbreak now. Do all those contradicting factors justify or explain or rather Heavily Infer that she may have done very well indeed contract Hsv-2 from me "even though I didnt or don't have it" . Especially since with no outbreak following hers, the doctor told me the hsv-2 test would require an outbreak to be happening in order to confirm the results or otherwise the test will always come out a " False-positive " if an active outbreak wasn't present. And her doctor still explained that my (Hsv-1 /mat herpes ) couldn't spread unless broke out 🤷🏽‍♂️

      Just by being honest. If you were not hiding something from him, you don't need to blame yourself. Just explain what happened. So, first thing I would point out is to get educated. When you dig in and realize it's basically an annoying skin rash and it has very little impact on your health, you will probably be able to see things differently and feel more comfortable when telling your partner. The fear about herpes mainly comes from stigma society created.
      Don't make a big fuss out of it, tell the truth, offer to educate him on this matter and of course, suggest taking all the necessary precautions so the chances of transmission are lower.. The fact is, people who disclose are less likely to transmit, because they communicate about what is going on.

    You're giving incorrect information!!
    The video starts at 2:46.
    You can have unprotected sex while the virus is dormant. With shedding, your husband may not feel anything, but I do, which I would assume many other people do too. I feel like I get dry, itchy skin when I'm shedding. I've had the virus for over 13 years, and in that 13 years, I was married for 5 of them. I always had unprotected sex with my now ex-wife, and other partners after my marriage. To this day I have never passed on the virus. Every day in the shower, or when I go to the toilet, I look at it and know well beforehand if I am getting a break out. As soon as I have a break out, I inform my partner, and we abstain from any sexual activity, unless my partner is feeling frisky, so then I please her orally or with my hands. You just have to be very aware that you don't touch yourself. So please, before you go spreading fear through misinformation, do some more broader research, as not everyones condition is the same as your husbands. Thanks 👍

      My partner has it. He didn’t tell me until after I had a prolapse and he panicked so I got checked and was negative and assured me it wouldn’t happen to me as he wasn’t having an outbreak, I hate myself for this but I slept with him again unprotected just once and now I’ve got it and he doesn’t care 😢 I haven’t been tested again but I have blisters that are getting sore. I feel like my life is over I literally have no one to turn to 😢
