Being a Zeppelin fan in NYC in the 70s made Kiss shows seem cartoonist. But also being a 62 year old Jewish guy,how can you not respect Gene and Paul. Paul lived in my in-laws building in the 80s Sutton Place
Again, Stan clearly shows what a caring, eloquent world class man he is - and always has been. His honesty and overall genuine attitude is greatly appreciated and a real treat to listen to any time he speaks....
He's also brutally critical and uncaring at times - to friends, lovers and bandmates current, former and dead. It's the curse of being a sensitive person, you can be cruel and unforgiving. Read or listen to his book - he just rips everyone apart. No compliments for anybody.
@@SharpCinema "No compliments"? is not true. Ace was brilliant, funny, had aura...We had good times. Not one critical word about Bob Kulick, Bruce Kulick, Anton Fig etc. And what he wrote about his ex-wife is nicer than how most men talk about their ex. When the lover, Amanda, wanted to buy drugs he told her not to come back! Maybe brutal, but it was clearly self-defensive. And his criticism is the other side of his SELF criticism. A very honest book 📖.
Being very impressed about Paul Stanley, what an inspiration he is. Behind the fame, he is a real special human being! Great attitude, about his history, what an unique artist!
It's surreal to see Howie and Paul chatting about life together. Growing up in the 80's, Howie and Paul were major parts of my day to day life for the good part of a decade, at least. Howie from his stand-up, Bobby's World and Muppet Babies all the way to listening to Kiss Alive II to Crazy Nights.....and even dressing up as Paul Stanley for Halloween for a few years! Thank you both for all the smiles, laughter, and good times!! Cheers!!
Paul is a class act. I love hearing him tell his story. I've listened to it several times and I could listen to it over and over. To meet him is one of the items on my bucket list!!
What an inspiration Paul is! I’m 75, never followed Kiss. I had kids young, was busy sopping up cereal during the early Kiss years. Thanks for introducing me. It’s never too late!
I used to always champion Ace and Peter…I read all of their books…and by far the most honest and believable one was Paul. And in his interviews since I have changed to where I believe Paul and respect his decisions. Seems very honest and humble. He didn’t get handed anything, he earned it all. And honestly how can anyone dislike that? He’s the man.
I read Paul's book and have mixed feelings. He criticizes almost everything and everyone in it. (I like their music, especially the unmasked era with Bruce Kulick.) Paul criticizes some people so often in the book that I find it strange. If what he described is true, it's hard to understand why he stayed in a relationship/band with certain people for many years. Money is not the answer, because he earns well even with the current lineup. Don't get me wrong, I'm not saying that there is no truth in what he wrote.
@@80s_kid I hear ya…I think I see it the way I see it because although he certainly criticized others a lot (especially Peter), at no point does he champion himself as flawless. He always owns up to decisions he made that were selfish or without regard to someone else’s own situation…in other words, he certainly criticizes others but doesn’t really give himself praise outside of song writing abilities…but I feel that he earned that
I loved Paul’s book. It’s very enjoyable, but was also silly. He SAVAGELY attacked everyone in his life except his kids and current wife…all the while explaining how his actions were perfectly reasonable and justified from the day he was born.
I loved Paul’s book. It’s very enjoyable, but was also silly. He SAVAGELY attacked everyone in his life except his kids and current wife…all the while explaining how his actions were perfectly reasonable and justified from the day he was born.
@@80s_kid It came off to me as a highly slanted version of the truth where he was always right and everyone else in his life was always wrong…he attacked Ace for dressing up as a Nazi (which I’m not defending) and described how hurtful and awful it was for him to do that. However, there are pictures of Paul dressed as a Nazi too, posing with Ace and looking to be having a blast…which Paul didn’t address. He chose to simply give a limited description which attacks Ace and paints himself as the victim when the real story was probably more complex. Like the old saying, don’t let the truth get in the way of a good story
Wow! I am literally falling in love with the soul of Paul (and him as a man as well 😉⭐️) He is so eloquent, warmhearted and humble. What an amazing interview, so touching! I got to know KISS 1985, was never a fan of rockmusic but the song „I was made for loving you“ is on the list of my absolute favorite songs ever since. Last week, July 2023, I saw KISS live in Cologne and it got so much under my skin. Such an epic concert, I am still in awe of this unique experience 🎉🍀Thank you for creating such a memorable moment for me. 🙏 It will be in my heart forever ❤

I always think that same thing to myself too. Kiss are performing in stadiums still after 48 years. Not many musicians have or can attain that. The recent Sydney concert was amazing. They always put in the blood, sweat and tears for us. So grateful to have KISS in my lifetime.
Howie is a great interviewer. He asks interesting questions, he allows his guests to speak without interruption but he keeps them on track and keeps the conversation moving. Really, really good at interviewing... and there are LOTS of famous guys interviewing other famous people now and Howie is better than all of them, imo.
Well, I think in this situation he doesn’t shine. Paul Stanley is soft spoken, articulates and resonates very well. Mandell is too abrupt, impatient and perhaps a bit shallow for this be a very good conversation.
I just watched the Gene Simmons interview with Howie and now with Paul. Both Gene and Paul were very insightful. I like Howie but geez he did interrupt SO MANY times and usually when his guests were finishing up a great story.
An amazing human being. Always been a Paul Stanley and Kiss fan since I was 7 years old and now at the age of 59 absolutely in awe of Paul Stanley. A wonderful person.
Paul is such an eloquent speaker, and generous of sharing as much his story and feelings with the fans. Im happy he is at a great place ! Saw the last show, and it was all and more that I expected from Kiss !!! ❤
What a treat. My favorite comedian of all time and my favorite rock star! I am a huge KISS fan...since age 12. Something resonated with me. They were different and I always felt different from everyone else. And now I am 59 now and still love them! Even got a tattoo to honor KISS!
I have been a Kiss fan since I was a kid. I'm in my 50's now and still love Kiss. It's timeless and real and this interview was great hearing Paul talk honestly about his life now and where he fits in this world. Thanks for a great interview Howie.
That was a very nice interview I enjoyed it very much. As a young kid in the 70s I collected the Kiss bubblegum cards and they used to hang from my ceiling above my bunkbed. My first album I had was Destroyer. Then the four solo records and I had a matching T-shirts in my third grade school picture. One of my good friends in fifth grade had the dolls, they were awesome for the time. Shortly after we watched Kiss movie. It was great when you were 10-12 they brought a lot of good memories into my life and now looking back at it after 50 they were some of the best times. His positive attitude is astounding, glass is always running over. What a great philosophy. Thanks Howie!
I remember my cousin buying tickets to KISS show in Helsinki years and years ago. I remember going to the show, not really knowing that much about the band or the music, let alone the lyrics, but golly was it fun. Yes indeed we had a good time. The band was amazing. Seeing this interview by chance and listening intensely on Paul's every word reminded me what a good and hardworking band KISS is still to this day. And understanding how amazing, articulate, well mannered, sincere, kind hearted human being Paul Stanley is restored my faith in humanity that there still are good people in the world. All the best to Paul, KISS and thank you to Howie for this amazing interview. ❤
Being a KISS fan for nearly 50 years I'm so glad I came across this interview. I'm an even bigger fan, if that's possible. Thank you Paul for taking the time and doing this will Howie.
I never was a Kiss fan but listening to interviews with Paul Stanley I find out that I really respect this guy on so many levels. He smart, wise and humble and connects to so many people.
One fantastic interview Howie . Paul Stanley was my favorite character in KISS. He is a very interesting man and person. His paintings are great. The Star Child is so cool. Thank you for having him on your show. I watched Gene Simmons too.
Thanks Howie, and Paul for the excellent interview! Paul Stanley is the ipotimy of what a Rock star is ! He's the one that invented that whole image and Role of what a Rock star is and should be! This man took Rock to another level of showmanship, stagecraft, creativity, image, excellent sound quality, songwriting ,vocal delivery and crowd interaction , that is second to none! He was the first to create the front man mantra for Rock! He's so modest about that , and so underrated. Also, his rhythm guitar playing is so tight, crunchy and Rockin! A real innovator of that style. The bands earlier records we're the the most colorful, photogenic, and jammed with the coolest stuff inside, stickers, tattoos, posters, etc! Nobody packaged records that before, and the music was so tight, rocking and mixed to perfection! Listen to those early records with headphones on cranked up ! Amazing! They truly are the Hottest band in the world! Thanks Paul for introducing me to Rock in such a big way! You inspired me to play guitar and opened up my musical experience for a lifetime! Kiss will go down in history as one of the greatest bands ever! Rock on Paul!
Hands down, Howie has THEE best podcasts ever. I've seen four now and I'm glued to every word with every guests. It's a feel good show too and I love the studio.

I've read Paul's book and have the greatest respect for him. I've loved KISS since i was a kid. At 54 I just went to my first rock concert (I don't like crowds of 80,000 people) and I picked KISS to be the one. I was blown away as i knew I'd be! I appreciate they dont jump on us for copyright on our crummy phone videos we put on social media because it was so special to us, the fans. I really like how Paul is letting the grey streaks come through in his hair - he's aging gracefully and not pretentiously like so many others. He's genuine.
When he spoke about his music being a memory, a moment in time, WOW, that hit me in some sort of way. He is 100% right. All of his music is that to me. I cannot believe he is in his 70’s. Mad, mad respect Paul Stanley. Such an interesting life story. KISS is an amazing, talented, and intelligent band. None other like them.
This show is so much therapy for me. I grow up see KISS and wanted to be a Rock Star. I been playing drums 45 yrs now. I would not change anything in my life.

Just saw KISS in Melbourne Australia. Took my 12yr old. She loves KISS. They are a generational band. Absolutely amazing live. The best I have ever seen! Just phenomenal! My daughter and I will always have the memory of seeing KISS live.
I wish you could have seen them, but I'm sure the Ace Frehley & Peter Criss Tribute band still performed well. I seen The Ace & Peter Tribute Band in Indianapolis 18 yrs ago with my daughter on her 11th birthday. Poison warmed up for them. Poison wasn't great, but my daughter still enjoyed them.
@@belle.m It's not kiss when only 50% of the band is there. But I still enjoyed seeing them. Seeing Gene and Paul perform was nice. I just hate seeing someone else steal the other two's identity. Ace Frehley 's band has been killing it lately, hopefully you can check that out on you tube, or better yet see him live. I had heard Gene and Paul were talking about quiting and having 4 non original members play the kiss shows and continue on as Kiss. That's pretty sad I think.
@@thebluesrockers Actually then she really only saw 25% of the band - Gene, who is the only one who really sings anymore. Paul has been lip synching to a backing vocal for years now.

I remember From 9 years old here in Australia seeing and hearing Kiss for the first. I became addicted, i ran home from school to the shop when our newspaper had a competition to win tickets to the 1980 Adelaide concert. Buying 5 papers 5 stamps 5 envelopes just to enter every day. I won that competition and then my Dad told me i wasn't allowed to go because i was too young. I was devastated I wanted to see Paul... in 1995 i got the opportunity to go to the Kiss convention here at the Hilton hotel. 12 hours of Q&A, acoustic set, museum pieces and finally I got my Dressed to kill vinyl signed by Paul at the end. That made up for a little girl devastated to not see her hero. Kiss will always be my 1st and only no 1 band. Thank you Paul for being in my life's journey and at times your voice has saved my life. God bless 😊 thanks Howie for a brilliant podcast
I saw KISS in 2003 but I really don't know much about Paul but listening to him talk was a treat. He has a great outlook on life. Didn't know he was a painter either. Would love to listen to him talk all day and hear what else he has to say.
Great interview! I seen Kiss live 3 times. Didn't think that I could love this guy even more. Kiss such a great band I thank these guys for mentoring another great band Rush to work hard and give your fans the best performance ever.
I saw them 9 times, makeup and without. he and Simmons lost my respect not by replacing Ace and Peter, which I guess had to be done, but when they put impostors in the makeup. The non makeup years were really good, just take it off again and move on.
@@drmidnight2419 Pete can't hang anymore. Ace could still keep up though. Pete had a lot of trouble doing the reunion tour and Tommy had to teach Ace his parts.
I was amazed at the timing of the band's decision to drop the makeup, and then, when retro was in vogue, brought it back. Paul said it was a survival tactic, and not very deeply thought through, but it totally worked for them.
I’m a big fan of Rush and one common thing that comes up in interviews with the band is how impressed they were (while touring with Kiss) with Kiss’s work ethic.
@@fernandoreynaaguilar1438 no the other two still worked their asses off, they just got caught up in the scenes, Peter was cut loose after his ego from their biggest hit went to his head and he got drugged out, Ace was a coke head and binge drinker, but still performed and did his parts, and sold the best solo album, so don't minimize their contributions to the original band, over a decade they played, so that's consistent for a long time, especially having to deal with the control freaks egomaniacal narcissistic behavior because they blame everything bad on others
Growing up as a kid in the KISS Army.....I've been a fan since about 74-75 as a 8 or 9 year old.....Paul was my first idol. I grew up always wanting to be Paul Stanley, to be just like Paul Stanley. What a truly extraordinary human being. The guys always get so much hate from the other side (you either love KISS or you don't and a lot of shade gets thrown at them by the haters) but you have to admire this guy and his passion for life. Fantastic interview. I'm 56 and Paul is still my idol. * \m/
As a drummer from the age of 4 years old...I grew up learning and playing the drums. When I herad KISS for the first time...it changed my life. Because I was not happy with music in 1974-5 and I wanted more. I went out and became a professional drummer playing on the road all over the place , recorded 2 full albums, recorded a few songs with others, andalways pushed my self to be the best because of KISS. Just for the record...when Peter left I sent a promo pack in to try to get the gig. After ERic Carr got the gig...he played a big black drum set kinda like mine only a little bigger. Mine was 14 drums and 18 cymbals. I love to hear you talk Paul...and now it helps center me as I have becomed disable and unable to play since 2012. I realise now that I probably will never play again. But I am alive and want to stay that way as long as I can. KISS was, is, and always be the greatest rock & roll band of all time. Howie...still a great guy (we met once) and still funny. Wish you would do some comedy STUFF on your channel.
Why can't you play anymore? Btw I'm sorry to hear that, from an ex pro musician to another, mine was guitarist for several bands, some toured regional, some were cross country as well, before the internet and being a musician it's hard to tell the younger ppl about how it worked without Facebook promo pages and everything else to help expose your music and even learning new stuff
I've always thought Peter was a better drummer than he's given credit. Not the fanciest or the fastest player, but he always had solid timing and a nice groove. Simplicity can be a strength. Sometimes ya just want a cheeseburger instead of a four-course meal, ya know? Sorry to hear you're no longer able to play. Are any recordings of your playing still available to listen to?
I have a new found respect for Paul after this interview... he's pretty smart, wise and humble. I grew up with Kiss being my heroes but has mostly faded after Tommy and Eric putting on Ace and Peters makeup. Excellent interview!
As a fan from ‘76 Paul has been a long-time inspiration in my life. Gene may forever be seen as the face of KISS but Paul is the heart and soul of everything KISS.
Great interview! In my youth KISS was a phenomena, and as I got older, I've come to admire them as guys who provided for their families, tons of charity work, who have done things with class and a wink of humor in the music and life. Mazel Tov Paul and Howie, I thoroughly enjoyed this.
I've loved Paul Stanley since I was a little girl. I'm 55 now and still adore him! He's so handsome, mild-mannered, and well-spoken. 🤩 ⭐ Howie, please listen more when your guests & daughter are speaking, and wait to ask your next Q until they're finished with their thought. Thank you!

He's done a lot of interviews. You should look up some of the old ones with all 4 original members. Ace and Pete are hilarious in some of them and they really piss Paul and Gene off, but they are having a hard time holding back their laughter.
God I love this man! For 45 years Paul Stanley has been a massive inspiration to me and he still continues to be. I just witnessed my 16th KISS concert in Melbourne and met the band for the first time, a 10 year old's dream come true at 52! Great interview Howie!

I am so proud of myself that at the age of 7 (around the solo album/dynasty era) I recognized not only was this a legendary band, but also recognized the brilliance of Paul Stanley. His talent, his intelligence and his drive. Ace will always be #1 to me when it comes to kiss. Paul Stanley as a human being is on another level. Paul if you ever read this. What an interesting interview and guest. I was never a KISS fan but learned a great deal about his life and art. Millions made from painting too... WOW
Howie and Paul, thank you so much for this interview. While Ace might be my 'favorite' member of Kiss, Paul has always been the one I most respect, and this interview shows why. Thoughtful, insightful, compassionate--'mellows with age' comes to mind--and a seemingly wonderful guy. I've jumped in and out of the Kiss Army since 1974, and it's usually because of something that Paul did or said that brings me back; and this is another example. Thanks for a lifetime of great Kiss memories, like this one!
Paul is such an inspiration and truly the driving force behind KISS. What a great interview with a true renaissance man. A highly accomplished artist, singer, front man, theatrical artist extraordinaire, guitarist, painter, and family man. What an accomplished individual and what a life lived to the fullest. I derive so much inspiration from Paul. I can't imagine my life without KISS. KISS will live forever as long as Paul is at the helm!

Listen to his new venture Soul Station. He sings oldies songs. His voice is good for this genre as he gets older and has a hard time reaching the high notes. I love his song he wrote...I do I.
I've been a fan my whole life. Yeah their music is not meant to be chart topping master pieces, they were just doing this for fun and get laid. Paul was just a regular guy that pursued a dream.
I'd definitely start exploring the band by listening to their studio and live material 1974 - 1977. Three years, that's about how long the real KISS lasted. It's pure magic if you listen without prejudice. Nothing but raw power, all virtually unpolished except for Destroyer, which is a cinematic musical endeavor, a superproduction so to say. Welcome aboard!

I think he can make whatever comment he wants- it's his show@@margaretschaffner9133
Again, Stan clearly shows what a caring, eloquent world class man he is - and always has been. His honesty and overall genuine attitude is greatly appreciated and a real treat to listen to any time he speaks....
❤ Love you guys after all these years/😅thank you for the music 🎵 ❤🎉Mickey Valencia xox!
Yet, also completely delusional at the same time. It's quite interesting.
Stan ? Ooh so edgy
He's also brutally critical and uncaring at times - to friends, lovers and bandmates current, former and dead. It's the curse of being a sensitive person, you can be cruel and unforgiving. Read or listen to his book - he just rips everyone apart. No compliments for anybody.
@@SharpCinema
"No compliments"? is not true.
Paul’s voice is just so soothing and calming. Great interview. Kiss fan yesterday, today, and tomorrow!
Paul is wonderful.
Very humble, very appreciative of where he came from and the hard work you have to put in to where you wanna be
He’s not humble at all

I Enjoyed this comment very much ty
What an inspiration Paul is! I’m 75, never followed Kiss. I had kids young, was busy sopping up cereal during the early Kiss years. Thanks for introducing me. It’s never too late!
I like your comment. He is an inspiration. I've had the pleasure of seeing the early shows and meeting him. He is even nicer in person.
what a cool lady !!!!! - raw innocence and honesty - absolute respect to you
Listen to early Kiss better stuff
I'm shocked that Paul Stanley is now looking like Cesar Romero, the Joker in 1960's Batman series, without the mustache! 😮
Excellent interview, I just found this, I didn't even know Howie was doing these. Paul is brilliant, down to earth. Great interview

58:57 Howie says he is impressed with Paul. The interview is AWESOME!!! and Paul , is soooo gracious, and kind with his words. All I can say is, Paul, May you and your family be forever Blessed and THANKS for being one of the "good ones" !
I always think that same thing to myself too. Kiss are performing in stadiums still after 48 years. Not many musicians have or can attain that. The recent Sydney concert was amazing. They always put in the blood, sweat and tears for us. So grateful to have KISS in my lifetime.
The front man whom all should inspire to be. Thank you Paul Stanley for being apart of my teen years and through out my growing up years.
Howie is a great interviewer. He asks interesting questions, he allows his guests to speak without interruption but he keeps them on track and keeps the conversation moving. Really, really good at interviewing... and there are LOTS of famous guys interviewing other famous people now and Howie is better than all of them, imo.
nosey parker is all he is
Well, I think in this situation he doesn’t shine.
Same here I was 10 years old listening to kiss with my friends older brothers. Now I'm 57 and still listening.
I have gained total respect for Mr. Paul Stanley. Very humble and well-spoken, down to earth human being! God bless you, Paul!
If you think Paul is humble then Biden is competent......he ain’t

Humble? LMAO. Apparently you've never read one of his books.
Paul is so grateful and spiritually centered. What an awesome dude - entirely different than the younger rock star Paul. His book is fantastic too.
Paul is so talented. He’s phenomenal. He is a gentleman and a sweetheart. Love him❤❤
Being a KISS fan for nearly 50 years I'm so glad I came across this interview. I'm an even bigger fan, if that's possible. Thank you Paul for taking the time and doing this will Howie.
"I'm not sure that tough love is really love .. " .. tender .. articulate ..
Great man, love Kiss, his vocals and song writing. I also love to listen to him talk, for his thoughtfulness, intelligence and compassion.
Isn't he I mean he's older now but he's still looks like a rock star I just love that man
Hands down, Howie has THEE best podcasts ever. I've seen four now and I'm glued to every word with every guests. It's a feel good show too and I love the studio.

Paul speaks so respectfully and politely!! I loved listening to Him !! And like Him - I've never been 1 to take orders either. I never really listened to Kiss - but I have a new appreciation for the Band 🎉 Ty Paul

My first concert. Madson, WI 1979.Fricken amazing. 16 yrs old. Still Loving to listen to their music, I love that you've had them on the podcast. Both ,Paul & Gene are fricken genius. 👍 great interview. Ty
@@thebluesrockers I literally have no idea what you are talking about. Was that comment really necessary?

I was amazed at the timing of the band's decision to drop the makeup, and then, when retro was in vogue, brought it back.
Paul said it was a survival tactic, and not very deeply thought through, but it totally worked for them.
I love kiss I’m a genx kid .. so I grew up watching kiss and they were my first concert Nov 1st 1990 .. I enjoyed this interview…
I’m a big fan of Rush and one common thing that comes up in interviews with the band is how impressed they were (while touring with Kiss) with Kiss’s work ethic.
Ditto
I was always impressed with their Halloween Costumes and tight leather pants myself
Gene and Paul's ethic. Because the other two...
There are no lazy bands that last 50 years…

Growing up as a kid in the KISS Army.....I've been a fan since about 74-75 as a 8 or 9 year old.....Paul was my first idol. I grew up always wanting to be Paul Stanley, to be just like Paul Stanley. What a truly extraordinary human being. Awesome interview as a lifelong KISS fan thank you 🙏
Paul Stanley, always a gentleman. A sweet soul.
I have loved kiss for 44 years! They woke me up to rock n roll!! I love to hear their stories
I’m so thankful I’ve got to see KISS in concert and to take my son to as well.

He's done a lot of interviews. You should look up some of the old ones with all 4 original members. Ace and Pete are hilarious in some of them and they really piss Paul and Gene off, but they are having a hard time holding back their laughter.

Anyone that says it's impossible, are the ones who have failed.
(great quote)
Thanks Paul
Paul Stanley continues to inspire me. Even at 50 years old. His outlook on life is amazing.
Umm, Paul is 70 years young. And still 🔥
@@tamihewitt6562 I’m talking about myself. He still inspires me. If I had place a comma instead of a period, then I would have been a mistake.
Sorry, I wondered if that's what you meant. Keep rockin'!
@@tamihewitt6562 Keep those flames away from Stanley, his face will melt and those carpet strands on his head are highly combustible.
@@ChadStormTheAftermath very poor sentence structure!!
KISS was my first concert on the LICK IT UP TOUR. I wasn't a huge fan and not that excited about it. But that man is an ABSOLUTELY AMAZING ENTERTAINER! Such a presence on the stage. I'm still not a huge KISS fan, but I am definitely a die hard PAUL STANLEY fan! Great interview Howey.
My 4yr old is OBSESSED with KISS, especially with Paul. She always asks me to put his makeup on her face and taking photos and she'll listen to their songs every morning and rock out. Always pretends to be him when we play house 😂 it's KISS every day with her.
Cute
He is really a beautiful man. I couldn’t stop looking at him while listening to his incredible voice.
Probably the best interview with Paul I've ever heard.
I have been a Kiss fan since I was a kid. I 've seen them live twice, both on "Farewell Tours" about 20 years apart, lol. A Kiss show was not just a concert, but an experience. Great interview!
