Please, I don't know how long you have been looking for the killer of the SP404mk2, but stop looking for it, there is nothing better than SP404mk2 in its price range, that thing made with LEGO pieces, it doesn't look like it can withstand hits from a beatmaker professional like Jay Dilla or DJ Premier right?
Ok, it's a nice, very portable toy, it samples at 24 bits but only 64MB is nothing, I'm afraid it's very absurd to record at 24 bits in such a ridiculous memory. A USB or SDcard reader would have been great
    The best killer of a SP404 mk2 is a one future SP404 mk3.

$300 is tempting, but I think my brain has issues with any workflow where I can’t see the notes or song patterns/phrases/blocks. I never got on well with the POs either for that reason, unfortunately.

    • @all.day.day-dreamer

This is small enough, battery operated with 20+ hours of usage that you take this with you to the park, on plane, a vacation, trip, bathroom ( please, no recording sounds from the bathroom ) overnight whatever you wish. Just think, you're on your phone, your listening to something and you get a creative strike of lighting and you jack in, record your sample and make a beat around it. I think the $299 price is a clue. I think all the other new devices they are planning are going to be upgrades with much better pricing. I'm already saving for the next device. I've always been a fan just couldn't afford their products, no, I am hoping I can.

@@all.day.day-dreamer I work very well with the Dirtywave M8, and expect I would work as well with the PE Tracker Mini, due to being able to see the song and notes laid out in some form. The P.O.s stress my working memory and don’t jive with how my brain wants to do whole songs. I’ve also always been more of a programmer than a finger drummer, though that could be down to lack of practice.
And, too late, I sampled at least one thing from the bathroom. (It was a shower door)

I don't know, the 404 screen doesn't compare to this screen no matter how big it is. Being able to edit samples by looking at and zooming in on the audio waves means that the 404 cannot be killed by this equipment. That said, it looks very nice and at a good price. Yeah I feel ya! I had the SP404 MK2 since launch. It's a behemoth, capable of everything under the sun, a real marvel, but geez, getting a track done on that thing just would take me forever. The flow was so convoluted, annoying. and just not intuitive for anything. Watching Cuckoo and everyone else just ... have fun with this device made me realize that was what I was really missing anymore in my portable production. After reading over the manual twice, watching multiple videos, and asking people on elektronauts a ton of questions, I decided this fits me so much more. So I packed up the SP404 MKII and got him ready for its new owner. Sold.
I see so many people rushing out to buy this. Don't horde gear people, don't just mindlessly consume. Read up and purchase, and downsize. If somethings not fitting in your flow and you are excited for the KO II, get rid of it before purchasing.

To put things into perspective, almost 20 years ago when Yamaha released the DTX multipad, it came with the same amount and people rioted. So... if you thought there was a catch... well this is it.

64mb of 16 bit 46 kHz sound should be 11.5 minutes of mono or 5 minutes 45 seconds of stereo sound. I wish companies making samplers would always state total sampling length from the beginning. There are calculators online you can use to figure it out.

"Wav" audio (44.1, 16) is 10 mb /stereo minute... so depends a lot of the actual sampling stats. At "wav" thats a little more than 6 min... but that's stereo also, mono it's already 12+... I can see the device holding 16 minutes of samples... but probably not something you'd want super long melodic samples in, think yer right it will still be situated towards percussive one-shot type sampling. Ordered it as soon as i saw it this morning. Ive been using the pocket operators as well as the OP-Z for quite some time. Weird but happy they are $299 & hope it can replace my 404

I have two coming from Perfect Circuit. I also own the AKAI MPC X. So for me, having enough space for sampling is not an issue.

Jade come on.... all the te "economic" line of products have tons of quality build issues, starting with the opz (the banana effect, retriggers, etc..) and ending with all the po (a lot of them stop working after a year) i know its not the same with the more premium line but lets be honest. I mean i like it, but i also like the opz and never got it, we should ask for more quality build and materials from te... remember you can get a sp404 for the same price so.... a lot of factors in the play not only the beautifull desing and hipster look

I haven't seen trimming like this since the roland ms1, sort of akin to byte offset, but i don't know if i would enjoy it as much as the simplicity of the po-33. which i guess is still going so eh.

Thanks Jade for this video :) Actually, for me it's clearly a sp 404 killer; I will buy it asap. The hardware is what I was wanting for the sp 404, the build in mic and the compact shape are essential to have fun with those devices. I'm wondering if the keys feeling are similars to Polyend's tracker caption keys ^^ Can't wait.

Jade what´s happening? The screen is a not an OLED screen like on op1, you can easily see that is it a super cheap basic screen like on old watches. If it´s offordable it´s for sure super cheap to build for TE.
