  • In this video I show you what I do to remove the water damaged factory spray insulation on my 2009 Honda CRV, clean all the metal, remove surface rust, reseal and re-insulate the tire well. This is my very first TH-cam video and I hope you all enjoy it. I’m very excited and nervous all at the same time.
    Please leave a comment and give me a thumbs up if you enjoyed it! And most of all please Subscribe!

    I love how your video is step by step, so precise even a lay person can follow. The Mechanic is very personable. I can watch him for hours.

    We have a 2011 CRV and I just randomly checked the spare tire well to see if our jumper cables were in there and was shocked to find about 3" of standing water! Thanks for posting this video, I was surprised to find a video on the issue and really appreciate all of the details you provided.

      Thank you for subscribing and for your wonderful comment. It was my pleasure. I’m glad I could help. This is a common issue with these 3rd Gen Hondas. Watch this video on how I actually find and repair the water leak in the spare tire well: 👇🏻

    You didn’t fix the root cause of the water getting in the spare tire well?!

    • @themechanic2.060
      @themechanic2.060  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      You are correct. I should have mentioned this car was parked under a tree for two years and the condition of the rear hatch seal was bad. Bad in that twigs, leaves and such made it under the seal. After completely cleaning everything I assumed it was corrected. And I should have mentioned that In the video. That was my bad. Well needless to say the water came back. I will be making a new video explaining everything and tackling the actual water leak. Thank you for your comment. I hope you subscribe. Stay tuned…

    Thanks for posting this. I have a 2010 CR-V and I am having the same problem. I am going to attempt to clean it up myself, what do you call that drill brush extension that you were using, I'd like to order one, is it universal??

      I don’t have link, but you can find them on Amazon as “wire brush for drill”
      Thanks for the comment.

    I don’t understand why at the lowest point in the trunk where the spare tire sits should be a drain hole there in case water leak in there?

    Hi. The 09 CRV I just bought was parked under a tree. It was filthy around the tailgate door. I clean it up then it rained and the next day I found some water right there where you are working. I also replaced a burnt out reverse light bulb. Could it be I left something misplaced or May be what you have on your car? It looks like it never happened before as the well is clean. Thanks

      Hey hello again! I did an extensive video finding and repairing the actual water leak in my spare tire well. This video is how I repaired the rust and water damage from the actual leak. Your leak could be your tail gate seal, but most likely not, but possible.
      Check out the actual water repair video I did here:

      This is more than likely your leak too.
      Thanks for your comment!

    I have a 2008 Honda CR-V and this morning I found the entire spare tire well full of water. But no signs of how it got there? I shop vac’d the water out but would like to figure out what caused it so it doesn’t happen again. Any help or tips are appreciated.

      Hello, my experience with this problem is that rain water makes its way past the rear hatch weatherstrip especially if the surrounding area is not cleaned often. A build up of dirt, twigs and leaves can hinder a proper seal. Hope this helps.
