    I just stopped doing CGM after a year of fighting with my hair and spending hundreds and hundreds of dollars and ALOT of time with little to *no results.* It started to affect my mental health, everytime I walked by the mirror I would feel a sense of self hatred for how awful my hair was.
    My hair is high porosity and can't hold moisture if my life depended on it. My curls are also delicate so I have to be careful how many moisturizing agents I put in. The CGM products that I found *did* keep my hair frizz free and moisturized weighed it down - and even then the results were sub par.
    I've added silicones and holy moly my curls look and feel incredible! My curls have bounced back and my hair feels and looks so healthy. The silicones have effectively sealed my hair shaft to hold moisture in and prevent frizz. My hair is no longer rough, dry, frizzy, and tangly. I feel free now, I do what my hair likes, and for the first time in my life I feel good about my hair. I just use a sulfate on wash day and deep condition afterwards 👌

      I think I needed this comment- Every post in the CGM facebook group I'm in talks about patience, and I can't have much more patience left after 7 months and just seeing my hair getting worse, always saturated in buildup, spending lots of money trying "clean stuff" that doesn't work for me, missing out on awesome hair products feeling sad not being able to try them, stressing over every product I put on my hair, and my hair falling off more than ever. Woo, i guess I just needed to vent, and find someone who understands lol. If you say 1 year and no results, I better believe you and right now i'm going to try going CGM-free to see if my hair comes back to life. I miss that frizz-free shiny look in my old photos. Thanks.

    i started following cgm 3 years ago with my heat damaged hair (some strands were just plain straight and wouldn't curl no matter what). discovering cgm was life changing and my hair was fully curly around 6 months in, and it only got healthier and curlier during the following year or so. however, for the past year it has felt dry and straw-like no matter what i did. i could achieve some acceptable results on wash days, but on day two, even though it looked okay, it always fellt like a crispy tangled mess. for a whole year i kept telling myself to power through and keep looking for cgm approved products, because, after all, it was cgm that changed my hair from limp frizzy waves with straight pieces to voluminous curls i had never even dreamed i could have. but around a month ago i had the epiphany that it wasn't cutting out silicones that saved my hair, it was the proper care (no real heat styling, scrunching techniques, understanding protein and moisture balance, sleeping on a silk pillowcase, using hair gel, etc.).
    so, i bought an ogx conditioner with silicones in it, and it took 3 washes for my hair to finally not feel straw like. i'm on day two after washing now, and i cannot believe that my hair is not tangled and feels soft to the touch.
    cgm is amazing for learning how to care about your hair, but at the end of the day, if certain rules that come with it are actually preventing your very own unique hair from looking its best, then what is the point?

    My curl pattern looks like a grown out 80s perm. I color it, I wash it daily, I diffuse it. I do whatever makes my life with this hair easiest. I look like a CGM before picture.
    It is enough to go to the gym, do your kegels, follow a skincare routine. Floss your teeth, take your pills, clean your make-up brushes. On top of a family, house, job. The last thing I need is to become an adherent to yet another set of rules meant to optimize my life. I have hair that looks like I'm in an 80s hairband video. So what.
    I get compliments regularly. It looks like Stevie Knicks in 1979. Fluffy. Big. And my own. Sans rules

    I don't follow the exact CG method because there is no way I could only ever just cowash. My hair is fine and oily. It needs a good cleanse every now and then, and I've found I actually prefer shampoos to cowashes because I like the lather. I recently stopped trying to avoid silicones because after nearly 3 years of doing just that, I was tired of avoiding products I wanted to try for no other reason than they had silicones in them. That decision means I finally get to try Cake Beauty, which I've been wanting to since seeing you use them on your channel all the time.

    i never subscribed to cowashing. massaging the scalp with just water would probably be better than that. your point on trying to remove oil with lotion is so on point.. i'm sure the CGM is exactly what some curls need, but i don't believe it's for all curly types. i'm a wavy-curly & i got into the coconut oil craze & just bits of the CGM (never the full method) & over time, i could tell my hair didn't like certain products that others loved. occasional sulfate to clease is the only way for me to get rid of product build up..

    • @TheFitCurls
      @TheFitCurls  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Great questions! The only sulfate I try to limit or eliminate is SLS - Sodium Lauryl Sulfate - as it is the most stripping and can be particularly harsh on my dry scalp. However, most of the time a gentle sulfate-free shampoo will do the trick when it comes to cleansing off silicones! Cosmetic chemistry has come a long way 🙌🏻 Cleansing just refers to, well, cleansing your hair! Using products with surfactants meant to clean off whatever is clinging to your scalp and strands.
